  • Solaris 10 x86 w/ Matrox G450 dual head and xinerama

I have solaris 10 x86 with matrox g450 dual head and x.org x-server. The problem is to get xinerama work. When xinerama isn't enabled, two different desktops work well - or, they work, but they are pretty useless because I can't move windows between them. So, I have to enable xinerama, but it seems, that neither JDS/Gnome nor CDE haven't been built including support for xinerama.
When I enable xinerama, X.org-x-server starts fine and there's dtlogin. When I login and it passes execution to gnome, it fails and x-server restarts. Same with CDE. But if I put 'exec /opt/sfw/bin/xterm to my .dtprofile', it starts ok and I can do some testing..

To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line<br />
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

If I start /opt/sfw/bin/fvwm2, it works fine too, so the problem seems to be gtk/glib/gnome and CDE. One odd thing is that, normal CDE-programs, like dtterm, dtcm, dtcalc etc. works fine. But dtwm doesn't work in xinerama mode.
So, would anyone have any suggestion what could I do? Do I have to recompile my own GNOME, or could Sun do something to the next Solaris 10 update? (As far as I understood, current Solaris 10 release doesn't include zfs yet, so there will be update soon, I think)

    Hello,
    I'm also using a g450.
Now I'm trying for 5 days to get it work with xinerama under Xorg and/or
    Xsun.
Can anybody tell me how to get it work ?
I would like to see a working xorg.conf.
(I don't know how to configure 2 screens for Xsun. Mybe someone can give my his configuration file(s) ?)
Thanks to all who will help me !!!
p.s. here is my latest attempt of xorg.conf which does not provide xinerama for me:

  • Two PCIe-6537 read error and blue screen of death

    Hi all
I am reading two PCIe-6537 at 20MHz sample rate acquiring all 32 lines each with externally supplied clock and external trigger.
When operating separately, no problem, but when two are read I get
    a) on average of 25% of time error reading the data (time out error but happening before the actually time set by timeout, i.e. immediately after trigger)  and
    b) a blue screen of death after 1h or so of constant operation.
I have a feeling a) and b) are related and LV causes the system crash with so many errors. NI support seems to think otherwise.
I am using Dell Studio XPS 8100 and I have done all the firmware updates for the Chipsets etc. It has
    not changed anything.
Changing single line to whole port reading does not change anything.
Any ideas what to try else?

    Hello Pawel,
I have looked over the service request you mentioned about acquiring 2 PCIe-6537 at 20MHz sampling rate on all 32 lines. In order to narrow down this issue, I think it would be best to try only acquire from both cards without doing any triggerring etc. Also when performing this test, I would only want to acquire from 8 channels on both cards to see if this reproduces it. If this works, we can slowly add more elements to narrow down what the issue is and make us more effective to solve the problem.
I also wanted to ask if you have tried this setup on another machine and if it worked.
Along with this, have you tried to create two Digital Tasks in MAX and try to acquire for the same amount of time to see if the issue reoccurs here? This would tell us if this problem is connected to the driver/computer or LabVIEW.

  • Installing two PCI-MIO-16XE-10 DAQs

I have two PCI-MIO-16XE-10 boards, which work fine independently. I now have put them into the SAME computer, and the Windows XP has successfully found them and installed drivers for them. But when troubleshooting using the NI Measurement&Automation program, neither card is working anymore. The self-test fails, and the error message does not explain why. How can I use both DAQs together in the same computer?
    thanks,
    SAK

    Hi SAK-
There should be no problem with using both cards in your system.  A few things to check are:
Make sure that NI-DAQmx and Traditional NI-DAQ are not trying to access the board at the same time.  If you use the board with Traditional NI-DAQ you will need to reset the Traditional NI-DAQ driver before using the board with NI-DAQmx again.
Make sure that you have administrative rights on the PC you're using or the driver may not function properly.
Make sure that no other applications are currently accessing the boards- the driver will lock out access when the board is currently in use by another application.
You can further troubleshoot the issue by removing all other PCI cards from the system to try and identify the problem as a resource conflict between your DAQ boards and any other peripherals installed on the system.
    Hopefully this helps-

  • Digital Handshaking with two PCI-DIO-32HS Cards

    Hardware: two PCI-DIO-32HS Cards
Software: LabVIEW 5.1, NI DAQ 6.6
    Problem:
I'd like to do burst digital handshaking with two PCI-DIO-32HS cards.
One being used for sending bit stream while the other receive.
Suppose I want to use burst handshake mode.
How should I wire the connections?
Where should I wire the REQ, and ACK line from the sending card?
Should I wire REQ from card one to REQ of the other card?
Also, how do I configure labVIEW VI to do burst handshaking mode.
Can anyone send me a VI that can do this.
    Thanks a lot.

    Matt,
I would recomend using the DIdoubleBufPatternGen.C examples that ships with NI-DAQ. You can find it in your \NI-DAQ\Examples\VisualC\Di folder. If you don't have this example on your machine, you can get it by running NI-DAQ Setup and selecting support for C/C++.
This example does double buffering to allow you to continuously acquire data from your card. Data is transfered only when a full 1/2 buffer is ready. You can set how long to acquire data by setting the number of half buffers to read, or by modifying the read loop conditional parameters to fit you needs. See the NI-DAQ help on how to set you REQ pulse rate to 100kS/s.

  • I can not use two PCI-1407 cards together.Why?

When I installed two PCI-1407 cards on the same computer, I can find one card in the M&A Explorer, and that card can work well. But another card is invisible in the M&A Explorer.I can find the card in the source manager of windows 2000.I can't find the reason.Give me a hand, please.

If either of the PCI-1407 cards is rev E or higher, then you need to have NI-IMAQ 2.5.1 or higher installed. You can find the revision by looking at the assembly number on the card, 184895x-01, where x is the revision. Otherwise, I would troubleshoot this like any other NI PCI card. Make sure you have the latest version of the NI-IMAQ driver. Try the cards in multiple slots and in multiple computers if feasible. Does each card work fine when installed by itself? Is there anything unusual about this computer (industrial PC, unusual chipset, etc)? Narrow down the problem to one particular card, slot, or computer. You can also try updatin
g to the latest win2k service pack.

  • Distance between two PCIe x 16 slot of P55 GD85

    Hello,
Does anyone have an idea what is the clear distance between two PCIe x 16 slot of P55 GD85? planning to get one if my 2 x GTX 285 with modified cooling fan will fit in. each VGA with modified fan is around 55mm in height.
    thank you,

Exactly, there was no "rude" intention or the will to provoke you behind my previous answer.  In fact, I spent 15 minutes to find a ruler in order to measure the port distance on three different ATX Board to make sure I am not telling you anything wrong.  I would not have bothered to do that if I had been planning to write a rude reply.
[On the flip side: Personally, I find it kind of rude that you are accusing me of 'rudeness'.  However, I suggest we better drop the whole 'who is really being rude here' discussion.]
    Quote
The distance between the center lines of two neighbouring slots is always ~ 2.05cm.  There are two slots between the PCI-E-x16 slots of the P55-DG85.  Simply do the math!

    I am not a mathematician
The distance between the center lines of the two PCI-E-x16-slots of the P55-GD85 is ~6.15cm (there are two more slots in between --> 2.05cm x 3).
    This means that this ...

  • Using two PCI 6221 on a target PC

    Hi all,
I'm currently working on a project which requires real time control, and I was wondering if I can install two PCI 6221 boards on a target PC.
I've tried using one PCI 6221, which works fine, but what if I add another one?
Also, would I need better CPU for that?
Just let you know, I'm using CVI 9.0 under Windows XP
    Thank you for your help.

They are both development environments, so the answer is the same for CVI.
This is more of a hardware question and would be appropriate in the Real Time forums board.

  • High CPU load when sampling from two PCI 4472

    Hi,
LabVIEW 8.6, DAQmx 8.7.2  PC: Pentium 4  3.2 GHz, 2 GB Ram, Windows XP Prof Service Pack 2
I have an application with two PCI-4472 cards connected together with a RTSICable and I am sampling at 44.1 kHz.
When I only sample from one of the cards the CPU load is about 2-3 % regardles of whitch off the cards I am sampling from.
But when I sample from both cards ths CPU load goes up to 50-60 %.
I have made an clean VI with only an DAQ Assistant and this gives the same result: 3% + 3%  = 60% ... ???
What can I do to get the CPU load down when using two PCI-4472 cards ?
    Kind regards
    Leif Christensen

This is happening to me too, but i found a solution. try to change the way you look at music , on the left of search is 4 buttons, List view , Album List view, Grid view , Cover Flow view. try to change the view, then view your cpu usage, it worked for me, but not for my friend, so im not sure that it will work

  • How to program for two PCI cards with identical device ID?

I have 2 PCI-6713 cards, and they have identical device ID. I'm trying to program in Linux using C++. I got some examples from NI, but non of them seems considering this problem. Where can I get help for this?
    Thanks.
    flofish

The short answer is that you should read out the EEPROM on each of the two cards you find to determine which one is which.
I don't have specific examples for the 6713 on how to do this, but here are the necessary pieces.
EEPROM Read Example - this example is for the E series MIO card, but will be similar for the 6713.
E Series RLPM - in chapter 5 it describes how to read the EEPROM, which corresponds to the example. The 6713 may have a different EEPROM on it than the example uses and you may have to adjust the code accordingly. Look on the 6713 to find the EEPROM and then look up its manual online. Most likely it is one of the following chips: MB88341, DAC8043, 8800.
EEPROM Map for the 6713 - this is the roug
h allocation of information within the 6713. I don't see the serial number listed, but it should be stored on there somewhere. You may want to read out the complete EEPROM and compare the values to the known serial numbers of your boards.

  • Can I synchronize two pci boards - DIO-6527 and MIO6036E - via RTSI?

Thanks in advance. I'm interested in synchronizing a Analog PCI (MIO 6036E)and a Digital I/O board (DIO6527). But I am not sure if this is possible via RTSI. Can anybody give me some advice? Are there any Digital I/O boards which own a RTSI-interface?

Well, you can't do buffered pattern input with the 6527. You can only sample the digital lines one scan at a time through software. The speed of this is limited by the speed of the software.
Now, the MIO board already has a built in hardware trigger you can use to initiate an analog acquisition. You can also use your MIO card to "gate" the scan clock using one of the counters. (Only acquire scans while the gate signal is high, for example)
From what I gather, it seems you want to sample the AI and the DI with the same clock and be able to associate each analog sample with a corresponding digital sample. If you do need to do a buffered acquisition of digital patterns in addition to triggering an analog acquisition, then yes, you'll probabl
y want to switch to a 653x. Then you would be able to share the same clock between the two.
If I have misunderstood your application, then could you give me some more detail about what you would like to happen?

  • Z87-G45. MBs same issue. 290x/280x only two pcie slots detect gpu

    Hello,
I am having the same issue with two diff mother boards, both g45, one configured with 3x280
Video cards and the other with 4x290x.
The problem I am having is that the board will only detect two of the cards.
Even if I have monitors hooked to them all.  I have tried various slot combinations.  Including 1x to 16x risers and cannot get more than two cards to show up in the board explorer or with in windows.  Running latest bios.
I have also tried changing the pci gen settings and timing but nothing seems to work.  I know the cards are good as I can swap them in for one of the two working and they work ok.
All power cables are hooked up.  Cleared CMOS...  I am out of ideas.  I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks!

  • How to synchronize two PCI-6602 via RTSI for semi-period counting of four signals?

    Hello,
I try to measure 4 PWM signals. For that, I created 4 tasks (newest DAQmx), each with semi-period measuring one signal.
I want to use DMA so I have two 6602 for each two signals.
The task aquire a finite number of samples.
This works fine when starting the tasks subsequently.
Now I want to start the tasks via a trigger on the RTSI bus.
But I have no idea how to get this done.
I use the MX drivers for the first time an find it very difficult to get through the help files.
I looked at many examples but did not find a solution.
Most of the time my experiments end with an error message saying that the property is not applicable to this task, or s.th.similar.
Ans sometimes, when there seems to be a trigger defined, the task will not wait for the trigger and time out.
Is the anybody who can help me out of this?
    Maybe a little sample program?
    I program in CVI.
    Many Thanks

  • Can two PCI-e eSATA cards work at the same time?

    Hello,
I've been using a cheap, 2 ports sil3132 eSATA card for the past 8 months or so. I just bought a second one as I needed more ports, but the two cards are not working well together.
