Two people on one computer...how to keep itunes library clean?

Please help. My daughter and I both have music on this computer but we can't seem to operate two itunes libraries. We keep losing our libraries, etc. and accidentally creating new ones, etc. and all kinds of weird stuff.
Please help up organize so that it will work with our separate ipods.
Thanks

  • How to share library between two people on one computer

How to i share my itunes library with my son who is on my PC?  Two users one pc two seperate Itunes account and it stinks.

The only way to do this would be to move the catalog and photos to a removable drive. PSE is just not designed for multi-user situations.

  • If two people use one computer, but we have separte itunes accounts, Apple ID, and icloud will my apps I get be stored in their account too since we are using the same computer?

If two people share the same computer, but have separate itunes account, Apple ID, and icloud and one of them downloads an app will it also go into the other persons account since y'all use the same computer

If you  have separate user accounts on the computer, then your downloaded apps are stored in your iTunes Library. See the following for dealing with having multiple users on the same computer: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer.
Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.

  • Two i pods, one computer, how do we get separate i Tunes libraries??

Hubby and I share a computer. The internet account is in husbands name/on his log-in. I have had my own ipod for some time and my iTunes library is all set up and running via internet access on his login. My partner now has an iPod too and we want to have separate iTunes and separate ipods using the same computer. We followed set up for the new ipod and it does not offer a new separate itunes but started loading my stuff. Any ideas or help most welcome. Not very computer literate so simple language wil be helpful. Thanks

  • HT202213 How do I get two accounts on one Mac to share the iTunes library?

I've consolidated two macs into one and successfully migraated everything EXCEPT access to the original account's iTunes library. I have turned on sharing on both accounts, but still cannot get the new account linked to the library. Of course apple is no help whatsoever on this - nothing i can find on the support site and unless I want to pay them $50 they won't even try to help. Anyone have any good ideas?/

With POP, there really isn't a good way.  POP is designed to download from the server only, deleting messages after they are downloaded.  While you can set it to not delete, there's no provision for uploading messages to the server.  You need an IMAP account, which allows full synchronization of the server with the mail client, across multiple machines.  Note that some mail accounts can be set up as either POP or IMAP...  check with BT Connect to see if that's the case with them.

  • New computer-how to transfer iTunes library?

I am changing computers, and have my music on my old computer's iTunes library and my existing (good) iPod. If I sync my existing iPod to the new (blank) library I will lose my songs.
I have not yet erased the iTunes library from the old computer. Can I transfer it via the iPod? Some other way? Thank you.

    Hi Peter,
I recently changed computers myself. I did the following:
    1. I copied the entire iTunes folder (including the 2 data files as well as my music) created in 'My Music' (or wherever you told iTunes chose to set it up initially - to find out where you have stored your iTunes folder go to Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced and you will see it in the iTunes Music folder location section) onto a CD.
    2. When I got my new computer I set up the iPod software (do this first!) and then iTunes.
    3. Once I had set up iTunes I then copied all the contents of the iTunes folder on my CD including the 2 data files set up by iTunes into the new iTunes folder. When you open up iTunes all your songs will be there
Make sure you set up the iPod software on your new computer first before iTunes though. At first i didn't and loaded iTunes first, but I had problems with iTunes not recognising my iPod.
    I hope this helps!

  • Running two iPods on one computer - how?

I have an 80Gb iPod, but have increased my drive capacity to start also with a 160Gb iPod. I know I cannot have two iTunes apps running on the same drive, so how best to go about using two separate iPods on one iTunes app?
I will have music on the 80 and collected speeches on the 160, and so I need to keep them separately synching.
The whole point of the 500Gb outboard drive was to give me the iTunes capacity I need.My MacBook has just 160Gb, I don't want to change anything on that. i cloned it onto the LaCie drive.
Any suggestions, please? Am I overlooking something simple here?

Each iPod maintains its own sync settings. When the iPod is connected, adjust your sync settings to what you need and resync.

  • Two people using one computer with Mail

What's the best way to only show my email and not my wife's on our macbookPro, like I do on my iPad?

If you don't ever want your wife's email on the MacBook, remove that account from Mail. If you each want to see only your mail account, you should create separate Mac logins using System Preferences - Users and Groups. Then set up your mail account in the separate Mac accounts.

  • Two users on same computer how to use the same program and data

Two users on one computer how to share a program and it's data

As Kappy said, each of you should have your own account. By default all programs are installed in the Applications folder so all users on the computer will be able to use the software. With a few restrictions data you want to share between two users can be placed inside the Shared folder - look inside the Users folder for it. Data that gets placed in the Shared folder will retain the owner/creator's rights so if you want other user(s) to be able to do more than open the document you'll need to change the permissions of the file to include that user.

  • How do i get two ipods on one computer

Ok How can I share songs with two ipods on one computer!!! Help PLEASE !!!!!!!!!1

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have two Windows accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look anyway and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer

If I have two or more iTunes Libraries on one computer, how do I know which one is opening when I click on the iTunes icon on my desktop?

    You cannot.
When you sync to a new library, it will erase the current content.
Use your backup copy of the old computer to copy everything to the new one.

  • HT1347 How do I run two libraries from one computer?

How do I run two libraries from one computer? One library is on the computer's hard drive, the second library is on an external hard drive. The computer that had the external hard drive crashed and I need to fix the iTunes library on it. How can I do this without corrupting the library on my internal hard drive?

Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and either create a new library or choose the one on the external drive. Any rented movies downloaded from another computer won't play.

  • Computer crashed how to sync TWO iphones on one computer?

Any help is appreciated. My PC that I sync my iphone on has crashed and I tried to sync my iphone on my wifes laptop, but she has an iphone as well. I can log into iTunes, but cannot see any of my podcasts, applications or information.
Is there any way to sync two iphones on one computer?

The easiest least complicated way to keep your info and her info seperate and not worry about things is to take advantage of user profiles on your computer (in XP)...so each of you log into XP with your own accounts, thus iTunes (and any other software like mail, etc) all have your own settings.
Otherwise, you will have to watch which account is logged into iTunes Store (click store and see what name is up top right in case you both have different accounts)...and make sure you are logged in with the right account before syncing. iTunes does know the difference between your phones so each can setup different settings of what to sync to, but your library on your computer will be mixed unless you do what I said first, use different profiles (user logins) for XP.
