Two Playlists Playing Simultaneously on separate remote speakers

Have two Airport Express Units, each connected to remote speakers, communicating via AirPort Extreme. Would like to have music beamed from one iTunes playlist to one airport express, and another playlist beamed to the other airport express. I thought that having two versions of iTunes running might be a workaround, but can't figure out a cunning plan to make this happen. Any ideas?

Hi, Yes you can.... What I found was if you crate a second user you can stream a separate source to a second express. I have managed to stream to four different receivers.
You will also need to share your iT library......
Good luck

  • Just bought an Apple TV - how to play to my various remote speakers?

I must be missing something. This thing does everything but I see no way to get it to play to my remote speakers I have throughout the house (I have 4 base stations w/speakers in every room). This seems like a no brainer from a design perspective given radio/podcasts/audio is part and parcel with this thing.
I thought perhaps that since it's pulling audio from iTunes that I could just turn on Airplay there, but when it's pulling audio from iTunes, iTunes does not really appear to be playing, thus, turning on speakers does nothing.
    Highly disappointing.

Mike, the method you want to use was available in the first version, which I have owned since release, and used them for exactly what you describe - using one or the other of the ATV's to push audio to other ATV's and remote speakers.
I have bought the new ATV and am still doing the same thing, with the one new condition of using iTunes to be the main "player" of the content and using it to choose which devices; two old ATV's connected to speakers and one Express connected to speakers. In addition I carry around my iPod Touch as a remote to control song selection, which speakers are on and even their volume. It isn't really a big deal to me to have iTunes up and running to have my whole house music system working. It really wasn't much of a transition to be honest with you. Yeah, it was nice to have the music on the ATV's and use them to control it, but really what is the big deal of having iTunes going? I have adjusted just fine.
The problem with the original method was users couldn't grasp the simple concept of synching and streaming content to the original ATV's. There were so many complaints about it, although it was terribly simple, that I guess Apple gave up on it. All the home experts out there who butchered their networks blamed the ATV for their woes and ruined the synching/streaming concept.
I love the new box as much as the old ones. Give it a chance and you will too. It really is an awesome and affordable way to have whole house music on multiple levels using multiple devices. We continue to love it.

  • ITunes 10 won't play movie audio thru remote speakers

I just downloaded a movie and wanted to play the audio through my remote speakers. No sound. iTunes will play music files on the remote speakers, just not movies. Could anyone help me? I'd like to show clips of the movie to my students tomorrow!!
    Thanks!

that's expected behavior. you can currently only stream audio from music files via AirPlay.

to do that, you need Airfoil. however, also check this: _*Preventing audio delays while watching videos with Airfoil*_.

  • Airtunes issues - Cannot select Remote Speakers

I bought a new MacBook and am running Mac OS X (10.5.7) and using iTunes 8.2.
Previously I was able to play music through my remote speakers connected to my airport express using airtunes. With my new laptop, iTunes shows my speakers but they are greyed out and I can't actually select them. I can only select "Computer"
My iTunes preferences does have "Look for remote speakers connected with Air Tunes" selected.
Any ideas why it shows the speakers/base station but is greyed out and I can't select them?

I'm having the same problem with a G4 laptop running 10.4.11 and iTunes 8.2. I've tried random stuff like reconnecting the speakers to the Airport Express, restarting iTunes, renaming my airtunes speakers, etc. Some of this is obviously just desperate attempts to feel productive. If anyone can help figure out why I can see the name of the speakers on the menu in iTunes, but can't select them (they're grayed out) - I'd be stoked.

  • Suddenly can't get remote speakers to work

After having inserted a funky CD and having had the CD drive make strange noises, I tried to eject the CD, and it wouldn't. Tried to shut down, computer wouldn't. So took out the battery, reinstalled it, could eject funky CD. After that, tried to get music to play over my remote speakers, and, though I am able to go online and bring up ITunes, I can't get the remote speakers going. The stereo's fine. When I try to play music through the remote speakers, I don't get the "Connectin to remote speakers" message at the top of Itunes anymore; I get a special pop-up box that tells me it's connecting to remote speakers. But it never does: wheel spins and spins forever, no connection ever occurring.
Thanks to whoever has a solution to try.

Try shutting down ituens. Unplugging your AE, then
replug in your AE, give it about 2-3 minutes, then
    start up iTunes again.
See if that gets you up and running.
    THANKS.
What I did was shut down the computer, unplug Airport, push the reset button, and plug it in again. Did the trick! Thanks again.

  • ITunes able to see but not connect to Remote Speakers

I currently have an issue with connecting to my remote speakers from my Intel Mini within my house.
The Mini is running OS X Server 10.5.6 with all updates, and the latest iTunes.
It is able to see the Remote Speakers, but on attempting to select them, it defaults back to "Computer"
If I play music, it will play with the attached speakers via the headphone jack.
The AP Express is at the other end of the house, joined to the wireless network and is able to be connected to from my MBP either cabled into the Time Capsule like the Mini or via Wireless on either the TC or Router.
Using the iPhone, its possible to select the Remote Speakers on the Mini but it won't play, however selecting the Remote Speakers on the MBP will allow it to play
See the below diagram for an overview of how things are setup.
The Mini has been rebooted, cables checked and I have repaired the permissions.
It is also able to connect into the AP Express via the Airport Utility and reconfigure the device.
    Any Ideas?

Same prob today while making some network changes... 1st thing i did was connect an old time machine drive to my airport extreme, then realized 70 GB should be transfered through USB cable instead of the network. In the same process was trying to implement an old NAS hard drive on the network through my Airport Extreme as well... so i made a few configuration changes and started uploading files through the USB cable in Time Machine... That is when i noticed the same problem everyone else is dealing with. It seemed like I had a very slow internet connection and some network congestion. I spent hours reconfiguring the Airport changes I had made and investigating this problem on line.
Here is the good news! I waited for the Time Machine backup to finish and I also removed the NAS drive from the network and it seems to be working again. Back to square one with the hard drives but my Airtunes work again and my network congestion is gone! I hope this helps some of you.

  • Can I wake up iTunes to play from a selected playlist on remote speakers (with a fade-in)?

Is there a way to get my MacBook or iPhone to use a selected playlist from itunes as a wake up alarm - ON REMOTE SPEAKERS? Loads of alarms start up with a selected playlist or song, but they play only on the computer or iPhone or plugged in speakers. I want to wake up to my remote speakers in the bedroom via the wireless AirPlay function. Any ideas would be welcome.

I have practically the same problem, but only with podcasts. From a smartlist having all my podcasts, autofill only puts two onto the shuffle. From a normal playlist, none. I can drag them all into the shuffle. I'm on an iBook with Panther, iTunes 6, September 2005 iPod updater.

  • Playing in two seperate locations simultaneously

I'm curious if anyone here knows why iTunes (or anything else for that matter) can't play in two separate locations simultaneously i. e. Computer and an Airport Express. What is the limitation that restricts us from being able to have music in two places at once?
    Dan Carter

There is a way to play music through iTunes to remote speakers and your computer at the same time. Unfortunatly there is no way to get them to sink, as Airport has a lag of 2 seconds. I use: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/faq.php
the nice thing about this is you can also stream from any program to your Airport.
I imagine if you really wanted to sink them you could have two versions of iTunes installed on one computer and play the The Airtunes first through Airfoil and then start the other song playing from you computer 2 seconds or so later.
    Good luck

  • Using iTunes to play music on two Airport Expresses simultaneously

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to set up a system where iTunes 7.0 on my Windows 2000 PC can play simultaneously to two Airport Expresses.
I've set up the first AE (call it AE1) by connecting it to my LAN with an Ethernet cable; it appears in the Base Station Chooser and I can find it and set it up. I set it up to 'Create a wireless network' and check both boxes in the iTunes tab, and give it an iTunes speaker name. At this point, everything's happy: I can see AE1 in iTunes, and play music to the speakers, and my Nintendo Wii can even get to the internet using AE1. I've left AE1 plugged in to the network.
Now the problem: I bought another Airport Express, call it AE2, and I want the new one to hook up to the existing network and let me play iTunes through the new one, as well. I connected AE2 to my LAN with ethernet and it showed up in the Base Station Chooser; I set it up to 'Join an Existing Wireless Network' and gave it the exact same Network Name: "Mike Home Network". I checked both checkboxes in the iTunes tab and gave the speakers a name. I then unhooked the ethernet, plugged in the speakers to AE2, and unplugged and replugged AE2 to restart it. The light flashes green, goes to yellow for a while, then goes solid green. (So I assume it found a network to hook up to.) iTunes shows the Multiple Speakers button, and I can pick AE1, but no sign of AE2.
I restart iTunes, but it still can't find AE2. Some support suggests using the wizard, but I'm on 2000 so it's not supported.
    So my questions:
    * Can I verify somehow that AE2 hooked up to the network that AE1 created? Ping it or telnet to it or something? (I can ping AE1 just fine.)
    * Is 'Join an Existing Network' the right way to do this?
(I also tried WDS with no success, but I may have done it wrong.)
    * AE1 is distributing IP addresses; AE2 is not. Is this correct?
Access Control is turned off on both AE's.
I have Wireless Security set to 'Off' on both.
(I'll re-enable it once I get these two going.)
    They're about 20 feet apart.
Wireless channel is 'Automatic' on both. (Also tried it with both on channel 8)
Firmware on both AE's is 6.3
    Itunes is version 7
Any suggestions? Anything at all, I'm absolutely stumped and this seems like it should be really straightforward....
      Windows 2000

Figured it out! thanks everyone for the help.
In the end, I fixed it by turning off 'Distribute IP Addresses' on AE1.
The problem was, if you want iTunes to find the wireless Airport Express, iTunes must be able to see the wireless AE's IP address. When AE1 was distributing IP addresses, it was performing NAT, which meant that iTunes on my PC could not distinguish between AE1 and AE2 behind it.
This is not clear in any of the documentation; I can't be the first person to be confused by this.

  • Airtunes - Remote speakers connected, not playing sound

Having major problems setting up two AE's (one old, one new) to work with Airtunes. System is as follows: new AE (n) connected to modem, transmitting wirelessly (no issues); old AE connected to new AE (as "join an existing network") and linked to stereo. I see the remote speakers listed in iTunes but when I select them and play music, nothing comes out of the stereo. Had a couple instances where there was sound for a second then it died. Green lights are on both AE's, internet is working just fine. I've read a lot of the forums already but none seem to get at this one issue (i.e., music is not just dropping out periodically.) I've tried everything out there that was suggested for somewhat similar issues, as well. No luck. Thoughts, anyone?

Did you try plugging in a pair of headphones into the problematic AirPort Express? If you hear sound, the problem is not with your iTunes or AirPort Express setup. More likely, you have defective audio cable from the Express to the stereo.

  • Is it possible to play two audio files simultaneously.

    Hi,
Is it possible to play two audio files simultaneously.
I modified the 'SpeakHere' to play two audio files simultaneously, it worked perfectly on simulator but get hanged on iphone.
To this I implemented NSTimer, which regularly checks for both player instance every second. As soon as any player gets stopped Timer task stops the second one forcefully and again starts both.
    thanks.

    Hi Jay
Do you have the eLearning Suite? If so, you have Adobe Presenter available to you. If you don't, you should be able to download the Presenter installation file and evaluate it.
Presenter is an add in for PowerPoint. The neat thing about it is that it provides for a Table of Contents type of functionality as you see is configured in Captivate. But the twist with that is you are able to do something you cannot do in Captivate. You are able to insert videos inside the TOC area!

  • ATV doesn't show iTunes playlists and doesn't play them using the Remote app

    Hello
Using ATV3 with the latest software version and it is connected to the iTunes library (also latest version) on my Mac Mini.
When I go to Computers on the ATV I can see the content of the iTunes and am able to play both Music and Vidoes however I don't see the playlists on iTunes there. On the ATV configuration it is configured to Show playlists -> All but still no Playlists appearing at the top of my movie and TV show listings section.
When I connect to the ATV using the Remote app on the iPhone and go to Computers there I do see the playlists but unable to play the ones with Vidoes just music.
Any ideas what would cause these problems...?

log into my library through more > computers where? on the Remote? This is exactly what i'm doing, I can see the content of my library there but I can't play movies from there.

  • Video Podcasts not playing on remote speakers

I'm unable to get the audio from my video podcasts to play on my remote speakers. Instead they play only through my laptop speakers even when the airtunes speakers are selected. Audio podcasts and music mp3's work fine.
    tested on iBook G3 & Powerbook G4 with iTunes 7.6 on 10.4.11
mac/airport card > airport express > speaker system.

That would be a feature, not a bug. The audio track from videos isn't supported through airport express. As I understand it, this is because there is a slight lag and you'd end up with unsychronized audio. However, I think the latest version of Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil may be able to do what you want. I haven't tried it so I don't know how good the results are.

  • Sound from tv playing thru 2 separate sets of speakers not @ the same time

    Hi all,
I have my tv connected to my TV via the 3 component leads for the video and an optical lead for the sound. This works well as my TV has built in sub and surround sound processor plus 5 remote speakers so the 5.1 for films works well. But as the speakers are not that good, and certainly not Hi-fi quality listening to music thru them isn't that rewarding in fact its horrible. There is a spare set of audio out connectors (Analog RCA stereo audio) on the tv that would connect to the audio in on my hi-fi amplifier. I haven't tried it yet as i don't want to damage anything but i imagine doing this mean that sound will come out of all 7 speakers at the same time, with either films or stereo music.
Is there a way i can switch between the two sets of speakers (without un-plugging stuff) so i can listen to music on my quality speakers that are positioned correctly for stereo and then switch to the cheap ones that came with the TV that are positioned for 5.1 so i can watch a film.???

the appletv has no option to switch between different outputs.
Thankfully...nothing more irritating than having to drill down menus to turn sound outputs on/off.
would it not be simpler to use your amp to switch?
    Absolutely
Turn amp off/down when not neeeded, and turn volume of TV speakers down when not needed.
OP might like the sound of the 7 speakers on for films, but it there's any sync issues it would probably detract.
