Two Portal installations.

I have a development and test Portal installation due and am not having much luck. All are on RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 update 6. The target configuration is as follows:
Dev: Two systems, Portal Server 7.2 on one system, Access Manager and Directory Server on a second.
Test: Eight systems, Portal Server 7.2 on three, Access Manager on three, Directory Server on two.
So far we've been trying Application Server 9.1 update 1 as the web container, Access Manager from the Java ES 5u1 package, and DSEE 6.3 but I've had no success with this. Does anyone have any advice?

Do you have any logged error in jserv.log. Can you isolate the action of running the chart in 3.0.8.9.8 and find out corresponsing logging messages in jserv.log and error.log.

We hv installed EP 6.0 based on standalone Java 6.40 system.Wt is the meaning of SCS Instance no.during POrtal installation ? On wt basis does Visual Administrator takes 50004 port for its connectivity when we open irj site with port 50000? Lastly after Portal Java standalone installation two Instance services are formed in SAP MMC , what does these two mean and stand for and wt do they indicate ,secondly which is the cluster and which is the server one amongst the two.Revert to these queries at earliest as i need this info urgently.

SCS stands for central services of SAP NetWeaver AS Java instance, with enqueue and message service.The Central Services run on one physical machine and constitute a Java instance.
You could get a better response on an appropriate forum,I think.

Two portals (same SID), one R/3 System - changing portal client number?

We have one R/3 system but two portals. One is EP6, the other is EP7 and is due to replace EP6. On installation of version 7.0 we had to keep the SID the same on both portals.
Now we are having trouble with SSO into R/3 as the ACL in STRUSTSSO2 will only accept one unique SID with client number of 000. However it does seem to accept the same SID but different client number.
My question is, is there a way to change one portal generating the verify.der certificate using something other than default 000 client number?
Is this messy?

There is a way and it is absolutely not messy but the supported way; you just have to set the UME property "login.ticket_client" to some different value than "000" on the portal server in question (and of course you have to use this value on the ACL in the SSO target system).

I have just done this on my actual project, it's quite straight forward. Remember to restart the portal WAS after changing the value!

BW7.0 workbooks precalculation without Portal installation

Hi all,
I am using BW7.0 without Portal installation.
As far as I know broadcasting cannot be used without portal installation for bw7.0 workbook.(If I am wrong,please correct me)
Can anyone help to suggest how can I realize BW 7.0 workbook precalculation without portal.

There are two ways
1.distributing workbook via email (I think you are looking for this option)
2. to portal
You need precalucation server set up for the same .But i'm not sure whether we need portal for the same ,There is very good Howto on the same. Request you to go through it.

One TREX server two portals

Hi,
I am trying to use One TREX instance(non distributed) for two portals of different versions. Vrsion details
TREX 6.0 SP 0
Portal_1: EP5 SP5
Portal_2: EP6 SP2
In the EP5 system i am able to all servers running fine Index server, Queue server, HTTP Sever in TREX monitor iview. But in EP6 queue server status showing as Inactive.
Anybody have an idea? First of let me know is it possible to use the TREX like this.

It might be an issue related to the TREX releases.
Please have a look at note #695014 which describes the
valid TREX releases for specific portal releases. This note recommends to use TREX 6.0 SP1 for your scenario.
In the upgrade guides archive for EP 6.0 SP0 to SP1 (see https://websmp102.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700003085812003E/EP6SP0toSP1Upgrade_c.zip) there is also a guide for the TREX upgrade.

Two independent installation and performance issue

Hi,
We have installed two independent DBs (11gr2 enterprise 64 bit)on a large box with 80 cores 256GB RAM.
The data files for both DBs are on ram. The objective is to find if we can double perf number with two instances.
What we see is that when both instances are run the "log file sync" event takes 5 times more time (there are other wait events also go up).
db2: (when db2 running alone)
log file sync 202,445 21 0 .9 Commit
db2: (when db1 & db2 running together)
log file sync 267,512 97 0 4.5 Commit
The CPU load average -1 comes down from
14.1 to 1.68 though CPU utilization jumps from 41% to 82%.
There are two independent installations. We are trying to find out how one instance of DB can affect other (make other wait more), unless there is an underlying issue in the common resource used by both.
The SGAs should be allocated and accessed by DBs separately, right?
ipcs -m shows:

I am not very familiar oracle and do not know how to find memory layout of oracle DB. Any help/pointer is appreciated.
What is the best way to find out that two DBs do not share the same SGA/resources?
The two DBS have everything different except ora inventory.

Without a lot more information there really isn't much one can say other than that, properly installed, the two should be completely independent of each other.
That said it seems that is not the case which takes us back to what none of us out here can know ... what isn't as you assume it should be.
What is most confusing to me is this statement:
The data files for both DBs are on ram. The objective is to find if we can double perf number with two instances.I have no idea what either sentence is intended to mean. The first because datafiles are not "on RAM" and the second because two instances will never double anything other than resource utilization and overhead.

J2EE has been patched up to 4/11/05. It is the cluster installation, but installed on a single Win2003 server only, which also hosts SQL Server. SAP Support has verified the portal installation, but has yet to find the problem.
http://<fqn>:50000 displays the J2EE documentation and all the example apps work. I can telnet to <fqn> 50008 successfully. I can open the J2EE Administrator at 50004 with Administrator user blank password.
Not sure where to go from here. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

You are getting Access is denied error. Make sure that you will give 777 access on installation directory.

Two node installation with 2 concurrent managers..

Need your help. I have 12.1.1 Two node installation on Linux 5.9 with 64 bit.
Linux2- Database server + Concurrent manager
Linux1- Apps Node
Port - 8002 (port pool -2)
on my app node - linux1, I have 2 directories <SID>_linux1 and <SID>_linux2. First one is for primary apps node and second one is for 2nd concurrent manager. It is a shared directory structure. I have 2 questions:
1) If I run the autoconfig on Linux1, I can run all the services and connect to apache. However, If I run the autconfig on linux2, I will not be able to connect to web server (for a short time request will be sent to Linux1 and then it gets forwarded to Linux2 - even though Linux2 is not app server).
2) How do I run the second concurrent manager on LInux2? After I run the 2 concurrent manager, how do I test both concurrent managers are working?

Thank you for the info. I was wondering whether the Linux2 concurrent manager was installed correctly or not. I went to xml file and found these entries and it made me think, it didn't install correctly because only concurrent manager should have been yes and the rest should be no. Isn't it? Installing two portal instances

I have installed 9iAS 1.0.2.2.0 on a 9iDB on the same machine. I am now trying to install 9iAS 1.0.2.2.1 on another machine, connecting to the same database. When the installation request dad name, and schema name, I gave a different name to my first portal installation. The installation seems to have gone fine, but when I wanted to do the portal installation in the end, it says that i have insufficient Shared pool size. I have resized it in my init.ora, stop, started, checked in sql and I have more than enough space. I then noticed that the new schemas never got created in the database, only my second wireless schema got created. Can anyone PLEASE share some input on this? It is quite urgent.

The Central Services is in itself a instance and requires a unique system number. It looks to me like you have chosen the same system number(53) for your dialog instance ?
Edit: oops, think I may have misread your post with all those 3's ..please confirm the system number for the dialog instance you are trying to install is different.

ESS in a two portal landscape

Dear Experts,
We have a two portal landscape in which we need to run ESS. Users will enter only one portal and need to have seamless access to the ESS services running other Java Engine. I have enabled SSO between to the two Java Engines and it works.
Now comes the big hurdle. If I create wedynpro iview in one portal pointing to the other J2EE app server, then it works. But if deploy the ESS business package EPA files in one portal and try pointing SAP_WebDynpro_XSS system to the second J2EE engine containing ESS business package SCA files, then it doesn't seem to work.
Have you done anything like this before? The webdynpro proxy iviews that come with ESS business package (EPA files) point to which system alias or they always to have to run on the same Java stack where the portal resides.

Portal and ESS WebDynpro applications can reside on different servers. I have not tried it myself, but SAP designed it this way for increased performance and scalability. Portal iViews look for the WebDynpro applications at the location specified by the system with alias SAP_WebDynpro_XSS, so make sure you assign the following properties correctly for the system SAP_WebDynpro_XSS:
WAS host name: <J2EE server hosting the ESS WebDynpro Java>:<Port>
WAS path: /webdynpro/dispatcher/
WAS protocol: http or https

We have done the same thing for ESS we had to portals connected to one r/3 but beaware when we change the config for one on the backend r/3 side the settings for the other is also affected.
there is no issue with the load in this scenario and applications work fine independently as well.
but before doing this just ask your self it is really required cant i create 2 differnt roles and manage the display of the same using the themes?
but still if u wan tot do the same it is possible

Its very much possible for 2 portals to make use of one datasource for UME.
Lets assume for a scenario sake we are using an LDAP server as the UME for portals environment...so you would simple need to point for the UME's to the LDAP datasource.
