Two questions from newbie (just got my Zen Micr

Hi, just got my Zen Micro after reading up on lots of players. Two quick questions if i may:-
. Why the difference in keyboard icons? I notice on some that the 'back' button actually has the word 'back' written on it whereas others only have the arrow.
2. After i've charged the player (for 5 hours minimum on first charge?) should i immediately update with the two firmware downloads before adding songs?
Thanks in advance
Jaff

jaf089:
. The face plate has changed, presumably for international markets where people don't speak English.
2. The player will be charged in a maximum of 4 hours. The way to tell its charged is once the charging icon and glow stop, wait another 30 minutes for the final slow charge, then it will be ready.
You don't need to update with two different firmware updates, you can go straight to an update without one beforehand.
The .0.03 update fixes a battery charging bug, if you don't have this already, but allows the player to stay accessible with MediaSource.
The v2 updates give the player MTP access (driverless access with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 0). Be warned though, some people have had stability problems with both the connection and software after this upgrade.

  • Just got my zen micro, scratched battery co

    Hi folks,
Ive just got my zen micro, despite it being brand new and being shrink wrapped, the back battery cover is covered in hairline scratches (you can only see them in a certain light) however its driving me nuts as im very fussy about these things
is there anywhere i can get a replacement? i rang support and the guy was like no! he didnt seem to care my apparently brand new micro looked damaged?
Also i find the sound quality poor on some mp3s, a bit 'scratchy' i suppose and they sound perfect on my pc?

    Catherina,
Thank you for the swift response i appreciate it, re the sound quality its probably just the mp3s maybe and i will look into your suggestions, thank you
regarding the player, i bought it in the O2 experience on Grafton street, they wont replace it for the scratches as they say, rightly i suppose, that i could have scratched between thursday and today.
Im sure i havent tho as i never out anything like that in a pocket with anything else, and i noticed the scratches straight away.
Its odd as the rest of the player is immaculate as it should be but the battery cover looks quite worn.
If you could organise a replacement id be eternally grateful im living in dublin (as your profile seems to suggest that you do aswell)
I know its a silly thing to get worked up over but its bugging me!
(u are correct, its just the bit that slides on the back)

  • Newbie Just Got BB Today -- Basic Questions

I just got an 8120 and I have questions.
    1. If I don't have a microSD card, I guess the address book, calendar and email stored is stored in memory. If I get a card, do these things stay in memory or move to the card?
    2. Can I turn off the flash on the camera.
    3. My email comes to a company domain, but the nameservers tell it to go to a Yahoo server. I read my email in Outlook which gets it from the Yahoo server. (I only barely understand what I just wrote, so be gentle with me.) I get lots of email (even with the spam filers on) -- maybe 200 messages a day. On my desktop, I go through it off and on all day long and deal with what's important. Will the BB get my email from the Yahoo servers or from Outlook? If I delete a message on the BB, is it also deleted on my desktop if I synchronize everything? Is there a wireless way to keep the two sync'd?....Or am I thinking about my email set-up and use the wrong way?
    4. I also have a regular Yahoo account which I don't use much. Can those messages come to the BB too or does that complicate things? Or is the preferred way to read the Yahoo messages in the BB browser?
    5. Is 8GB the maximum microSD card the BB will take? Is there any reason not to get the biggest card? (I once bought a PC with 4GB of memory only to find out that Windows XP could only see 3GB of it.)

    As the previous poster stated,
    1. They stay on the phone. Soon to be released OS 4.5 will allow BES clients and maybe BIS to save to the media card.
    2. Camera settings: Turn on your camera=>press your Application Key (7 dots)=> Default Flash Settings (Off, On, Automatic).
3 + 4. Outlook allows you to retrieve your email from the yahoo server. It is a program that resides on your pc. If you don't turn on your pc, there's no email on it. Email programs are usually set up to retrieve email from servers when the user turns on his/hers pc and logs on. Since you have a personal yahoo account it's not much different, except you don't access with Outlook useless it's set up to route it's mail there. I'm guessing you log on online.
You can access your personal yahoo account from any where in the world by accessing the internet with either a wired or wireless pc/laptop/pda/cell phone or blackberry browser. Imagine your blackberry as a mobile pc with an email program installed but with more options. I'm not familiar with BES but it you have a BIS account, just add your yahoo address to it and it will redirect or if not , see if you can forward it to your berry thru your yahoo account options.
Your berry can conceivably access any email account availible. The only restriction is usually an IT policy.
I have hotmail, gmail, 3 shaw(my internet provider) and my mobility.blackberry.net account accessible from my 8130.
    5. 8 GB is the largest card the latest OS will recognize. I have no idea if you could access all of a 16 GB card or if it would even work. Your Media Card Info will only display what it can recognize according to what version OS your running.
    Hope this helps.

  • Two questions from a newbie who knows nothing

I have set up my 8330 to receive forwarded emails from my cox.net email account.  However, while on my home computer the spam emails do not get to my inbox, they are immediately put into the junk folder, these spam emails are forwarded to my BlackBerry.  Question (1): Is there anyway to only receive the emails that actually get into the Inbox folder on Microsoft Outlook?
Question (2): Periodically, I get a message on my BlackBerry that says it's "...being used to carry data between the BlackBerry and associated server...please do not delete or respond, it will be handled by the server."  These never go away unless I do delete them the next day.  Does this mean I have messed up something in the setup?
    Thank you very much...
    SedonaBob

    Hi SedonaBob
1- The BlackBerry Internet Service will forward any messages that appear on your server.  Your spam filter most likely is running only on your local machine so it is only controlling spam on the computer, not on your actual mailbox.
2-These network@etp messages are normally cause by installing the Desktop manager to use BES or Redirector instead of BlackBerry Internet Service.  To check if this is the case - if you have an "Email Settings" icon on your Desktop Manager, it is installed for BES or Redirector.  To fix it you must first reinstall (or modify) your Desktop Manager to use BlackBerry internet service.  Next, on your handheld,  you need to go to options, advanced options, service book and delete any service books that start with Desktop (cmime and cical).  Highlight the service book, click the menu key and select delete.
    Cheers

  • A really stupid question from newbie...

    hello all,
i am very new to java and i am trying to build a j2ee application...
rite now....i need to let my app communicate w/ an outside program thru' XML..
i had just learnt many thing about java w/ xml and i decided to use the XMLEncoder... it seems quite simple to use...BUT i have no idea on how to send/receive these XML files...i had thought of using socket connection, but i just found out that an EJB wouldn't allow socket networking... i bet this must be quite a stupid question coz i found nowhere teaching me this...=P
if u know about this, pls point me to some relevant docs / sites....i am anxious to learn about it...
    thx so much,
    karloogunna~

    hello maesj, rune, and others,
    thx alot for your advice...
and here's the environment i am working in:
    OS: w2k
    JDK: 1.4.1.01
    j2ee: 1.3.1
    jboss: 3.0.2
i am using flash as my UI, so i need communication
between the j2ee app and flash.
the data transfer involves a number of arrays of
objects (each object w/ a list of attributes...) so, i
think using XML as data-exchange is quite suitable (am
i wrong on this??)I don't know the first thing about Flash, but using XML as a means for exchanging data seams like a good idea, for the scenario you described.
    >
and i am reading about the message-driven beans, i see
that they got a function onMessage() from where i can
get the XML strings (?), but i don't know how i can
feed these strings into this JMS from flash...do i
need to write a small java program on the client
side?I haven't that much experience with Message Driven Beans. What I do know is that they employ the Java Messaging Service (JMS). If you write a small client appplication with JMS support... you might be close.
    >
also, i am not sure if i can send out XML strings
through the message-driven beans, i am reading on the
    JMS...it got the MessageProducer, MessageConsumer,
    MessageListener, and MessageSelector....should i be
using this? or can i use this together with the
    message-driven beans??
In a Messaging system you will need message producers, and message consumers. To enable two-way communication, you can setup both the EJB and the client to handle both. When a message arrives at the consumer (or subscriber if you like), the JMS Service invokes the onMessage method. So you should implement your logic in the onMessage method, for example inspect the XML content, and act upon its content.
i am very sorry for my disorganized questions...(i
used to do low-level programming =P)
and really thank you for your advice!!!!
No problem, the amount of information to read can be quite overwhelming. Using JMS is just a suggestion, and might be considered overkill for your application. If you're using an IDE, like Sun ONE, creating a message driven bean is easy, and can be tried out, without too much hours passing.
    Kind Regards,
    Rune Bjrnstad.

  • My two questions from last three days..

Good morning Sir ! My two problems are as follows...
1> on connecting my iPad with PC(running windows O/s) through USB cable ,PC detects my iPad but after copying the audio and video data from PC the paste option is not shown ...so I am unable to take any audio or video data from PCM to my iPad via USB connection.. That is copy-paste problem..

For this I go Setting>general>software update...here a link named " update and download" is shown but it is not highlighted  So that i can download..At this time the remaining Internet data is 400 mb on my Internet data pack but the update shown is of 1GB in size.. Sir main question is that I have problem in iOS updating ...

  • I just got a Zen Micro Photo!

Because it had FM receiver and recorder, photo and 8GBs - but it's the biggest mistake I made.
I learn about new songs thru the radio and so it's critical to have a radio handy.
However, the zen keeps shutting off the music whenever I watch photos... this means no team music while you watch sports photos... no wedding songs while you watch wedding photos... no theme music while you watch graduation photos, etc.
I shoulda gotten a iPod Nano!

I won't rub it in. We learn and grow from our mistakes.
But here's my solution to the radio dilemma. I'm a huge fan of two radio shows: Prairie Home Companion and the local weekly Jazz Scene both of which are available as internet feeds. I record them as mp3 files and sync them to my iPod.
Maybe you can eBay your Zen?

  • Just got my Zen Mi

Before loading songs, should I update the firmware? It's been pre-loaded with .0.03, so an upgrade would be to the 2.00.2 version that other people seem to be having problems with. Has everyone had problems with this upgrade?
Before any of that, should I install any of the enclosed software? If not everyone is having problems with the 2.00.2, should I just use WMP 0 and bypass all of the Creative software?
This is the worst part of having my Zen Micro deli'vered to work... I have to wait until I get home to play with it...

I would think long and hard whether you want the MTP support the v2 firmware gives. If you really want it then upgrade. If you don't stick with what you've got.

  • Two questions from a perspective Mac Book Air purchaser . . . .

    1) How warm does the computer get after extended use? I saw one review that the reviewer said "it was a delight to use in your lap." The Mac Book Pro is use gets too warm to sit in your lap after about 15 minutes.
    2) It was my understanding that it is impossible to boot from a hard drive connected via USB. What then do you do when the internal drive fails or gets corrupted? Is there some kind of unique connection to the Air external Optical drive that allows it to boot from it? I back up all my Macs by cloning the drives to external firewire drives so that if there is an internal drive failure, we can boot from the clone and be back in business. Is this not possible on the Mac Book Air?
    Thanks
    GFB

you can boot from a drive connected via usb, whether it be a usb hard drive with a bootable clone, or the MBA usb superdrive.
I know because not only have I read it, I have done it. I love my MBA and use a WD Passport usb drive to clone and backup the MBA. I did the bootable backup via CarbonCopyCloner. I have the MBA usb superdrive and did an experimental OSX install from the Install disc on a second partition that I created with that disc without erasing the first partition. Both worked.
I use the MBA primarily on my lap on the sofa -- no heat problems. Just follow directions and don't set it down on pillows or cushiony soft surfaces that block the heat exhaust vents on the bottom.
It is too easy to use on the lap, why bother sitting at a desk or table.
    Yup, luv the air.

  • BPS questions from newbie

    Hi SEM gurus,
I am a newbie to SEM. I was put into a SEM project that my company is implementing. I have gone through internal training but still I have some questions.
    1. How does 'fields to be changed'/'fields for conditions' relate to single/multiple selections?
    2. What is meant by 'internal creation of planning packages'?
    3. Is FOX related to transformation library?
    4. Is Data Slice in same as that in BW?
    5. Where can I find more information to better understand BPS? I am more BW than BPS. My colleagues passed me some course manuals but I need more foundation materials. Any useful links?
Hope you gurus could throw me some hints.
    rdgs,
    Bryan Lee

    Hi Bryan,
    > 1. How does 'fields to be changed'/'fields for
    > conditions' relate to single/multiple selections?
Fields to be changed typically have only single or range values for source values and single values for target values.
Fields for conditions usually support multiple selections.
    > 2. What is meant by 'internal creation of planning
    > packages'?
When you execute a planning function, the data of the planning package is processed in subsets. Those subsets are created by BPS. The users does not see them. If you are in BPS0 you can use "Execute with Trace" and each line in the trace corresponds to one internal package.
    > 3. Is FOX related to transformation library?
There's no relation. FOX have it's own set of functions.
    > 4. Is Data Slice in same as that in BW?
There are no data slices in BW.

There are a few books out. Search Amazon or SAP Press for "BPS".

  • Few simple questions from newbie

I'm new to Java, but i've worked a lot with action script... it didn't help a lot :) Here are my few beginner questions:
What does: public, static, abstract, void... and other things mean in front of the class name?
How can i call variables from another classes: if i have one class that does one thing and stores the result in a variable, how can i use that variable from a different class?
How can i call the input window to enter the value for variable? I've tried with importing "io.inputstream" library, and used the "extend" thing, but i still cant call the input window?

I came to Java from ActionScript too, and I must say having ActionScript as your first programming language does NOT make it easy to learn other languages. I was incredibly lost when starting with Java.
What does: public, static, abstract, void... and
other things mean in front of the class name? You'll find all that in the Java Tutorial
How can i call variables from another classes: if i
have one class that does one thing and stores the
result in a variable, how can i use that variable
from a different class? To use the variable from another class, you need to make a call to the class. Let's say you're in ClassB; you would make a call to a ClassA variable by doing something such as:
    ClassA.myVar.myMethod();
How can i call the input window to enter the value
for variable? I've tried with importing
"io.inputstream" library, and used the "extend"
thing, but i still cant call the input window?I recommend reading the tutorial before you try anything like that.

  • Question from newbie J2ME - USB - Joystick...

    Hi,
Forgive my possibly naive question since I am new to J2ME.
Is it possible to connect an external device to a cell-phone's USB device and have a Java J2ME program communicate with the external device by sending/recieving USB commands/data?
For example, can I connect a joystick that works using USB to a cell phone and play a J2ME game using a joystick?
    Thanks!

the code you provided does not set the command listener for Disclaimer screen.
If the listener is not set anywhere else, that might be the reason for NPE indeed.
BTW, given design of the class, I'd add a line right after addCommand looking like:
    setCommandListener(this);

  • Driver question from newbie

I read in Maximum PC magazine that you should periodically update the chipset drivers for your mobo?  The only Intel driver listed on the MSI website was released in September 2003 (v5.02.1002) and reads "Add support for Intel 848P and 865GV".  According to my literature, my mobo is an MSI 875P NEO-LSR 500/800MHZ (whatever that means)...how do I determine if this driver is the correct one?

These are the latest INF drivers that MSI has released. There are newer ones available from Intel that are not specifically for your motherboard but some people have installed them successfully. Personally I don't think you should make this change unless your having a problem related to your current INF drivers. Most people say you should install the INF files IMMEDIATELY after installing Windows and before anything else to avoid conflicts with other drivers. IMO I don't think you'll see any real performance increase with this type of upgrade...It's more to add functionality and solve existing problems.
If you decide to go ahead, you should make sure XP System Restore is functioning and create a restore point before applying the update so there's a chance you could recover easily if you have to.
