Two Questions: Shifty Pages and AP Div Backgrounds

Hi, so I have two problems that have been getting on my nerves.
The first is that, whenever a page on my website, http://www.omniearths.com/, has a scrollbar, everything that is centered shifts to the side to accomodate the new, smaller space. Is there any way to keep this from happening? It makes it so my nav buttons and body text always slide around, whereas I want it to appear as though they are staying in the same place. An example is the page, "Dakini", which I have added additional lines to for the sake of showing the difference.
Also, can someone please explain how to make AP divs have backgrounds? I think I saw the option before, but I can't seem to find it again. It would be very helpful to get my page more organized.

Thank you very much. Although, the gutter seems to appear on every page except News. I tried clearing my cache, refreshing my browser, and that didn't work. So, I tried a different browser on two different computers. So, it isn't showing up in Safari or RockMelt (which is just a modified version of Chromium if you haven't heard of it). And it still won't appear. I can't see any problems with my code.
My style section is as follows:
<style type="text/css">
body,td,th {
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 12pt;
color: #FFF;
body {
background-color: #000;
background-image: url(../imgs/stars.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat;
margin-left: 0px;
margin-top: 0px;
margin-right: 0px;
margin-bottom: 0px;
a {
font-size: 12pt;
a:link {
img {
border-style: none;
html {
overflow-y:scroll;
#apDiv1 {
position:center;
width:200px;
height:115px;
z-index:1;
text-align: center;
</style>
So if you can find anything wrong with it, please point it out. Also, if you could check the page for yourself to make sure it isn't just for me, I would appreciate it. ( http://www.omniearths.com/news/ )

  • Two questions, hierarchical pages and vimeo videos

    just upgraded to 09 from 06 (i think, the iMovie version was 06). one of the limitations i had with the old iWeb was that a site was essentially flat with all the webpages showing at the top of the page and navigation was accomplished by clicking on the desired page.
    i would like to have another level. for instance, i click on a page and that page has a different list of pages (including the one it came from). currently, i use a mixture of iWeb pages and galleries from Aperture to display my photographs. i would like to be able to do it all in one place since iWeb 09 "sees" Aperture.
    suggestions?
    there is a widget for inserting youtube videos, but i use vimeo. what is the best way to do that? use the html snippet widget and use the imbed code from vimeo?

    There are two methods in iWeb 09 to insert YouTube videos: The YouTube widget or the HTML snippet: Adding YouTube Videos
    As far a hierarchal pages, you can create you second tier pages and leave them out of the navbar but add text based hyperlinks to them in their host page. The host page could have a text based second navbar pointing to the sub pages: Text Based Navbar.
    If you have a lot of pages you could add the sub pages to a second site and link to them from a page in your first site. You can add hyperlinks to get back and forth between the sites.
    If you would want to include a page in each site taking the visitor to the other site create a blank page in each site, name it for the other site and add the following code to an HTML snippet on each page;
    <script type="text/javascript">
    parent.window.location = "URL TO SITE YOU WANT TO REDIRET TO"; </script>
    Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code
    You would need to publish each site so you could determine what the URL needed would be for the code. That makes updating your site a little quicker since you don't have to deal with all pages, just those within the main site or sub site. Lots of ways to skin that cat.

  • Two questions on SP1 and Vista booting

    Hi all,
    two questions:
    1) did I understand correctly that if I want SP1 on my machine I have to install it manually, as it is not included in the automatic update routines?
    2) my machine failed yesterday, I got a message "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause." The only thing I can think of is that before switching it off the previous time, I had inserted a USB hard-drive to copy some files on it. But I had continued working on the machine normally. The other unusual event is that the day before it was very slow booting up, so afer it finished booting up, I restarted it.
    When the system failed to start, I tried the automatic procedures several times, which always ended up with "windows cannot solve the problem automatcally,
    contact your vendor". In the penultimate attempt, I also clicked on an "advanced option tab" and restored the system, but that also did not solve the problem. Then, this morning I switched the machine on again to write down the exact error message I got, and instead, unexpectedly (and rather gladly), the machine started up normally. So, what might have happened? Should I get my machine (which is less than a month old) checked?
    thanks!

    Yes, theres a chance to have a complete image from the actual state of your operating system including all programs etc....
    There are several solutions:
    1. The Commercial One: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_(software)
    2. Another commercial one: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/features-cloning.html
    3. The Free one: http://www.ubcd4win.com/
    (but more complicated and you need in all cases a external data storage, there are some tools on this ToolsCD which are free and do almost the same like acronis or ghostimage)
    I guess there are still thousands of cloning programs but I tried to give you the most important and most reliable tools.
    If I were you, I would check the UBCD4Win, burn it to a CD, buy an external HDD, start the UBCD4WIn and clone your drive to the external one. So you can perform incremental backups of your HDD and if something happens, you must only do the whole process like you perform the backup just reverse.
    Hope I could help you..
    Cheers

  • Two questions, name change and orientation

    Two questions,
    1. How do I get the name on my phone changed? All the billing information on the account is my mom's, but it's my phone. When I use it, it calls me Diane. How can I fix this?
    2. I'm going to need the scientific calculator on my phone soon, so was playing around with it. In order to access it, the orientation has to be unlocked, but then it goes into landscape when I don't want it to and the VoiceOver jestures I'm used to no longer work. How can I have all features available without the phone changing the orientation randomly on me? Where it is especially annoying is if I'm in music listening to a song. I'll be in portrait, and all of a sudden it will go into landscape.

    In your first question, since you say it's calling you Diane, I assume it's a 4S and you're talking about the name Siri is calling you.  You can change it by going to Settings>General>Siri>My Info, then choose your contact.  (You could also say to Siri "Call me ____ ), but that would put the nickname on your mother's contact so it isn't the best solution.
    On your second question the phone shouldn't be changing orientation randomly.  It should only switch to landscape when you turn it.  If it persists you might want to have the Apple Store look at it.  If it's a 4S it will still be under warranty.

  • Two Questions (Disk Format, and iTunes Backups)

    Hi all, I am switching from PC to Mac soon and plan to use a 1TB External as a backup disk with Time Machine. I have two questions however:
    1.) I know when I buy my external I will need to reformat it for Mac. I managed to find from one Apple Support article that I should use a GUID Partition scheme since I will be using the new macbook pro which is intel based. HOWEVER, I am hearing different things on formats. Apple says the most common format for TM is "Mac OS Extended", but it says it also supports things like "Mac OS Extended (Case sensitive, Journaled)", and another source said it's best to use "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" As you can see, this is a bit confusing for me. Which format is best for my backup disk?
    2.) I also hear it's easy for backup data to collect quickly, especially if you deal with lots of large files. I really want to backup my iTunes media and library, but I have about 55+gigs of content so far. Is it still best to use Time Machine to back this up or would you recommend to manually backup my iTunes library? (like make a second partition just for my iTunes backup)
    Any advice anyone has on either of these topics would be much appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Yes, although it's almost certainly not case-sensitive.
    I read somewhere that Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (not case sensitive) is best for TM.
    Usually. Case-sensitive is TM's default, though.
    Does it really matter?
    It may.
    I'm only going to be using this one disk to back up my one drive.

    If your internal HD is case-sensitive, your backups must be the same. There's no choice.
    If it's not, and you don't anticipate using any case-sensitive volumes (a few 3rd-party apps require it), then you're probably better off with case-ignorant: +Mac OS Extended (Journaled).+

  • Two questions - album art and shuffling

    Ok...I have two questions, but didn't really want to make two posts...
    The first has to do with album art... All of my album art is in itunes and has been loaded onto my ipod (16gb, 4th gen)...I know it's there because I went song by song and did it and checked it. But my ipod chooses when it feels like displaying it...sometimes it displays it, sometimes I get the music note. If it's not there and I turn it off and on again, it will reappear...it does it on random songs when it feels like it. I tried resetting the ipod and that didn't help and it has resyncing multiple times. It's just hit or miss if the ipod feels like showing it.
    My second question has to do with the shuffle feature. I always shuffle my songs, but it seems like it's only shuffling the same songs...mainly those that I first synced. Every now and then it will throw in a new song, but it seems like it's shuffling the same songs constantly....and they don't have more plays than others because I've flipped through them. It's really annoying because it seems like it's always the same songs...
    Has anyone run into this also or have any ideas? I figured I'd through this out there before I exchange it out for a new one... both problems are just annoyances that are driving me nuts...especially the shuffle thing...I'm tired of the same songs!! Thanks guys!

    1) Have you checked that the album art is actually on each file? Right-click on the song and select, "Get Info" and then the "Illustration" tab. Now, press the "Next" button and make sure that all the songs that you think have got the album artwork actually have them.
    People often have problems like this with album artwork, or that two versions of the same album appear on the iPod etc. These problems are related to iTunes and how the music has been setup - and not usually the fault of the iPod.
    2) The shuffle feature. I don't know what anyone else has to say about this but I find it REALLY bad on ALL iPod products. This is why: it starts to re-shuffle the music before it has played all of them at least once. I find this rather illogical and haven't experienced this with any other brand but I guess Apple programmed it like that for a reason. I thought they could have at least improved it somewhat on the Shuffle 2G as that is its main selling point. As a result, I get some songs that play 10 times and others that never play at all.
    Hope this helps.

  • Two questions: editing info and capacity info

    I have two questions:
    1) I edited some artist/album info, but after synching it with my classic (80gb) the info hadn't changed on the Ipod. It did on Itunes, but not the Ipod. Any thoughts?
    2) As I put more music on my Ipod it increased the number of songs and the approximate # of days that this represented at the bottom of the Itunes screen. But then the days changed dramatically (and inaccurately) and now I have about 2500 songs, but it says that represents 250 days of music, which clearly isn't right. Any ideas on fixing this?
    Thanks

    Thank you for answering the first question - it worked!!!
    As far as the other question,
    When I create a playlist, for example, Jazz Tunes...and then I create another playlist titled Sarah McLachlan, etc., etc.,
    I will eventually have a list of playlists that are titled either as a specific artist or genre. And so, when I look to do a search on genres...I have to also look over the artists, making it confusing... Is there a way to seperate the two? Still not making sense? : /

  • HT1386 Two questions Itunes Movies and Syncing

    I have two questions. I had been using a different computer and had several movies saved from those ones you get free with purchasing a DVD/Blue Ray. When I try to look at these movies it tells me it will cost me money to download again? Doesn't Itunes remember the movies I already downloaded to my account???
    Second when I try and sync my phone to the computer this being the new computer I look at the aps to sync them and the photo has a different looking setup and all my aps are not in the same location as the ones on my actual phone. I have the 4s phone and carefully tried to place each AP in the correct place on the computer but then the next time I connected and looked to snyc with new items I downloaded to my phone it uplads the new aps fine but the same messed up screen shows up. It tells me I can lose aps on my phone ( i know they are saved on the computer) when I sync but what the ****! This NEVER used to be a problem on my old computer I even set it up so I am not connected with any other computers just this one.

  • Two questions - embedded files and pdf creation

    I'm wondering if some 'experts' can provide some information? We are a small education company that produce a monthly current events resource for Canadian schools. We provide these resources via mail and also as a pdf file from our website.
    We are not 'experts' by any stretch of the imagination but we have been able to make ID suit our needs and we are learning slowly as we go. Over the summer, we hired a graphics company to refresh our products and we are very happy with the work they did.
    What Im wondering about is they are advising that its bad to have pictures, etc. embedded in ID when creating a pdf file. I have never heard of this and Im wondering if someone can explain why?
    Also, we have always created pdfs by printing a postscript file and then using Distiller to create the pdf, but again Im told that this is not a good idea and that creating the pdf directly from ID is best. I have tried this but the file sizes always seems to be larger and keeping it small is important.
    Thanks in advance for your time.
    Eric Wieczorek

    Hi Robert and Jeffrey
    Thanks for the info and advice. The reason that we have always embedded the files is that the file moves around the office while different people work on it on their own computers. And I also have a home office and I work there sometimes.
    The file is about 30 - 40 pages and there are usually about 20 - 25 images so its just so much easier to embed all the links and just move the one file. We have found this to be the easiest way to work and we have never had any issues . . .

  • Two questions, touchy touchpad and case maintenance

    I noticed this morning that the touchpad is a bit iffy when I'm trying to move around or do two finger it randomly interprets one finger as if i had two on it.
    The other odd issue with the touchpad is the click action no longer actually "clicks." It seems I just graze the button and it registers.
    Obviously this is broken and needs to be replaced but how long would a fix like this take? Seeing as I need the laptop and use the laptop every single day for school work roughly how long would I be out of a laptop?
    The other question is, is there a way to replace the shell with a new one? This one has a lot of scratches and little dents from heavy daily use. ***** to ugly up such a beautiful laptop.

    "Seeing as I need the laptop and use the laptop every single day for school work roughly how long would I be out of a laptop?"
    When I had to send mine in for a replacement of the hinge assembly as the left one wasn't latching quite right it was gone for 2 days. I think turn-around is fairly good with Apple, but I understand that when you use it heavily day in and day out those days can seem like weeks.
    " The other question is, is there a way to replace the shell with a new one? This one has a lot of scratches and little dents from heavy daily use. ***** to ugly up such a beautiful laptop."
    Bumps and scratches aren't covered under warranty so I don't know of any really cost effective way to get the shell replaced. You didn't mention what size MBP you had. If it is a 15.4" model you might want to look at one of the (*)Speck Hard Shell's to cover it and protect it from further damage.

    Not in dreamweaver.
    If you want static page:
    Look in Fireworks or PhotoShop or some other IMAGE EDITOR or
    thumbnail
    gallery application.
    If you want a server side application that allows photo
    uploading and
    visitor commenting, look for a script like Gallery or

  • Two questions - Clipping Mask and Change color in group

    Hello,
    I have a file I rendered in Maya as a vector. I am not that great with illustrator, so I was trying to speed things up...
    Anyway, it appears all the file have a Clipping Mask. If I unrelease it, it shows a plain with a similiar dimensions that is the original color of the object. See image for before and after...
    Also, the same object says it is in a group. Because of that, I can't seem to change it's color, and the Ungroup button is greyed out... very confusing.
    Jared

    I rendered in Maya as a vector. I am not that great with illustrator, so I was trying to speed things up...
    First, please forgive a little pet-peeve of mine:
    You didn't render it as "a vector." A vector is a direction. You rendered it as vector-based artwork, which means it consists of [many] vector paths. I'm aware of the informal colloquialism, and I'm not just picking nits. The use of "a vector" as if in some corollary sense to "a raster image"--which I find so irritating--is misleading, especailly to newcomers.
    When you refer to "a raster image", you are correctly referring to one object. When you refer to vector artwork, you are almost always referring to a collection of multiple vector-based paths, not a single object. And that is directly related to your current problem.
    I assume there's a reason you need vector artwork. But you chose to have a 3D modelling program automatically render the model to vector artwork, hoping to shortcut a process while hoping to achieve the advantages inherent in vector artwork because, in your own words, you are "not that great with Illustrator." The example illustrates the self-defeating disadvantage of relying on automatic routines (much like the gross overuse of auto-tracing) to avoid having to know how to draw proper (and properly tidy) vector artwork. The end result is not the same.
    Like auto-tracing, your auto-generated vector-based output is needlessly complex. This is particluarly poor practice for something intended to be used as base art for a corporate or product identity mark (logo). In a nutshell, it's sloppy.
    That's why you find the results difficult to work with, and why responders to your post stumble in trying to advise you with specific step-by-step answers. The artwork very likely includes an unnecessary plethora of paths and multiple unnecessary constructs such as clipping paths and compound paths.
    If this is intended to serve as an ongoing "master" vector version of an identity mark, imagine the similar difficulties that will be encountered by every downstream user. Yes, the artwork may be scaleable. But the results are not optimized for use as signage, or engraving, or screen printing, or spot-color printing, or a multitude of other uses assumed to be accommodated when someone pays for a proper piece of re-usable vector artwork.
    So resorting to something like Maya's vector rendering for something like this, in hopes of avoiding what is really a rather modest learning curve, is quite often a false economy yielding sub-standard results from a technial standpoint.
    It's a pity in this case, because the design itself is a good one. I don't know what your specific use is, but It probably deserves to be properly built.
    To illustrate my point, below is an example from an earlier discussion. The top version was "automatically rendered as vector artwork" from Illustrator's own built-in 3D modeller. Yes, strictly speaking, it is "vector artwork." But its needless complexity practically negates most of the advantges that should be inherent in vector drawing. I would never have tried to pass it off as a finished "vector version" of someone's identity mark.

    Howdy!
    I need a little info on these lil' critters I've got here...
    First: What is the volatile modifier...? What does it do...?
    And second: What is the >>> or <<< operator...? First I just assumed they were bit rotation, but now I'm not so sure... I've used bit shifting operators before, but a webpage I found recently says Java doesn't have support for these operators...? What the...?
    That is all... :)
