Two Quicktimes

After installing Lion, I find that I have both Quicktime 10.1 and Quicktime 7.   Why do I have both, and what s the difference?  Should I keep both for some reason?

  • Roll two Quicktime players at once?

Hi! I'm wondering if there is a way to cue two QuickTime players to roll at the same time... I would like to compare two videos side by side and how well they time and match. Its very hard when I have a 1/2 to 1 second delay because I have to roll one, and then the other... I can do this with other methods, but it would be really nice if I could just open both videos into Quicktime, and roll them together, quick and easy...
    Thanks!

Awesome, thanks! Never realized it was right there in front of my face!
Ok, next issue... is it possible to link this across multiple computers?? Roll one clip from one laptop, another from another laptop, and have them run at the same time?

  • Merging two quicktime videos

Can i merge two or more videos into one long streaming video? I like to take videos of my nephew and cousins of the toddler variety but you end up with these 5 minute little videos. I was thinking about getting quicktime pro but wanted to make sure I would be able to edit the videos with quicktime pro and if I could stick one video onto the end of another.

There are threads here and over in 10.6.x forum as well as Mac related news sites about youtube, flash, plug-ins, itunes, etc performance. QuickTime doesn't surprise me.
There are also some problems with anything that requires Rosetta.
The main reason for getting 3 x 1GB RAM is usually to upgrade on your own later, hopefully cheaper, but I'd play 3GB as very minimal for this system or for 10.6.
The same behavior on same machine but running Windows 7 isn't seen, so it is Mac OS, even though iTunes and QT are mainly single threaded, not optimized, and audio tries to and tends to cause excessive cpu usage.
Don't think Apple 'says' much and someday there may be "improves compatibility and performance" is all that gets listed in software updates, you know?

  • Two Quicktime 7 installing b4 iLife questions

After scouring the various Apple discussion groups I decided to post this.
I've been using FCPro HD 4.5 for a couple of years now in 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 with great stability on the described system profile below.
I have hesitated upgrading to Tiger or QT 7 fearing a wrench will be thrown into the works. But due to iDVD5's finicky recognition of my Sony 820DL-ULT external FW burner(which shows vendor support on System profile).
I bought iLife06 for iDVD's specific ext. drive feature only to find one of the system requirements was QT 7.0.4 or later. Ugh!
QT 7.0.4 is on the disc. After reading the results of this version I don't know what to do.
I have two separate external bootable clones of my system.
I restarted from one of these and tried to update to 7.0.4 on one of those systems for a test drive, knowing I can easily copy it back.
But when QT 7 Install window shows to choose which disk to upgrade, it won't allow me to upgrade to this booted drive saying, it will only do the disc running the OSX system. I don't understand why. If I changed startup disc and restarted, repaired permissions why does it not think it is running OSX?
    I have these questions:
Is there a point in the QT updates where the instability begins for 10.3.9?
Which version of QT is most stable in this environment?
I am running iTunes 6.0.5 as I am uninterested in iTunes video and although I've got only 18gb iTunes file, I've never purchased from iTunes store.
    Anything I am missing here?
Thanks for your input towards this.

"The install script engine is missing from this machine. If available, run isscript.msi or contact your support personnel for futher assistance."
The installshield engine is only reqiuired for uninstalling older (QuickTime 7.1.0 or earlier) versions of QuickTime. It's not required for the install of the new version. So if we can get the existing QyuickTime uninstalled by other means than the Add/Remove Programs control panel, the install of the new version should go through okay.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Two Quicktime Broadcasters from one DV camera

i have one DV camera source and two intel iMacs ~ i want to send the same h.264 video stream to two servers using quicktime broadcaster.
i presume you can't just turn a firewire hub around and split the signal ~ is there another way to do this?
Mac OS X (10.4.6)   DV camera, firewire, iMac, quicktime broadcaster

i presume you can't just turn a firewire hub around and split the signal
Actually you can. A Firewire hub has no "direction"; it just provides a data stream coming in any port to all the others. I haven't tried to split a camera signal for QuickTime Broadcaster, but I did once do it directly to a couple of computers with other software, just for a test, and it worked just fine.
So give it a go; you'll probably find that it will work.

  • Importing two Quicktimes into iDVD?

I'm attempting to join a Part 1 and a Part 2 video I made...together as one iMovie...but having some kind of "parse" issue.
I had problems last couple weeks with stutter issues and many clips...and I converted the clips to several Quicktime share .aiff files and will try later to import those into my movie project. Folks here helped me get thru the stutter issue, thanks.
Someone mentioned one possibility was that I could convert both Parts 1 and Parts 2 to some high end Quicktime movie...then open up iDVD with an open file and import both those movies there with care not to import them into the menu file. Okay, I can kind of visualize that...but, my question is...will this conversion to Quicktime affect video quality done this way? Secondly...what happens to the chapters I created in iDVD of each of the two parts? Are they recognizable in iDVD imported as Quicktime? Will the two separate parts imported into iDVD remain as separate parts 1 and 2...or is there a way they will or can be joined into one movie?
    thanks

Which version of iMovie do you have? Version 5?
    I have iMovie 5
There are a couple ways to go about it. One, if you
have the drive space, is to start a new iMovie
project. Now go to the Finder, find your first
    project.
    Brought up Finder...
If iMovie5 and later, right click on the project and
pick "Show Package Contents" to get into the folder
    structure.
Here I ran into a problem...
eMacs and their mouse don't as I know have a right click option as do PC's...
I did pop on another mouse in our Mac lab that was on another computer called a macally iMouse...which has a right clicker...but when I held the cursor over the iMovie project in the Finder...and right clicked, nothing happened. I held it down for awhile also, but no options came up for anything.
If you have an idea why the mouse is not doing that...I'm so close to finishing this project.
We should be getting our new Intel Duo 2 Core this week...and hopefully soon the 500GB external drive along with it.
I guess I could attach the external drive to the macs in our mac lab...save the projects to the external drive, and THEN perhaps something will happen, the mouse right click. I don't know.
I guess what I'm saying is perhaps the macs being on a network server do not operate the same as a stand alone machine.
    appreciate your help...

  • Why two QuickTimes with Apple Software Update in Vista under Boot Camp?

Running Apple software update in BootCamped Vista, I see selection for 1) QuickTime, 2) Safari, 3) iTunes & QuickTime.
Items 1) and 3) are by default checked for download. Why would I want to download QuickTime twice??

    Hi!
Funny you should mention that! Same thing happened to me yesterday, I was downloading Boot camp 2.1 and there were the other three downloads you mentioned. I downloaded them anyway. I now have Safari 3.2.1 (etc.) on my Windows partition. Why did I do that ? To be frank I do not know!! Now you have all three on the Windows partition.

  • Inserting Two Quicktime files on a page?

    I try on this page:
    http://www.makingfilmhistory.com/Muybridge.html
to insert 2 Quicktime files, each set to "autostart = false". Both appear with autostart disabled, but one or the other fails to display the first frame of its movie, creating what appears to be a black space above the progress bar until one clicks in that area.
How do I fix this so that each picture track appears when the page loads?
    Thanks for your help.
    Professor Bob

You can define a poster frame in QT itself (QT Pro required) and it should be displayed. It's still no guarantee and may work differently on other systems depending on performance and how the required routines are initialized. I for instance can see both clips without problems. Therefore your best bet is to embed the QTs with a JavaScript and use a placeholder JPG while it's loading. Similarly, using Flash Video instead of QT may avoid the problems or would allow you to use stills as placeholders...

  • Please explain the two QuickTime Pro "Save As" options for image sequences.

I am attempting to send a qt file to a windows user and they had no issues with the first file I sent, 15,762 Kb except it's size.
Noticing the two save options: 1)self contained movie any external media will be included with this movie or 2) any external movies will be required to play this movie).
This message, second option particularly I find confusing, Is this supposed to read "Any external media will be required to play this movie"? Could someone explain this message please?
    Thanks

The two options are "Self Contained" and "Reference".
A self contained file gathers up all of the "parts" and places them in a single file.
A reference movie merely notes the "location" of the parts (music in your iTunes Library, photos, transitions or effects and video) wherever they are stored on your machine or network. As playback occurs all of the parts are pulled back as needed.
Self contained is the best method of saving. Reference movies are usually only made and saved for "local" viewing.

  • Two quicktimes listed in right click menu

On my Mac G5, 10.411, when you right click open with...the QT's shown are 7.31, and 7.01.
Is this normal to have two QTs available on the machine?

I believe the free utility Onyx also rebuilds the launch services data base which keeps a record of which applications (it thinks) are on your computer.

  • Combining two QuickTime movies

I figured it out. Sorry for the false alarm.
I’m trying to add a title slide (w/o music) to a QuickTime movie. I read the help file, but this isn’t working:
    1. Click on the one-slide movie (it’s 5 secs in length), select all, and copy.
    2. Click on the second movie (twenty-some minutes in length), drag the play-head (looks like an inverted triangle atop a small bar) to the beginning of the movie, and then paste.
    3. Save the file as a new movie.
The new movie is twice as long as movie 2 (40-some minutes), the added stuff is mostly black, and I don’t see the title slide.
I know this can’t be a difficult task. Would someone please help me with detailed instructions?
    Thanks.

Would someone please help me with detailed instructions?
Assuming both files are motion clips:
    1) Open each file in its own player
    2) Activate (click on) the 5-second movie clip, press Command-A (to select the entire clip), press Command-C (to copy the data to temporary memory), press Command-N (to create a new empty player), press Command-V to paste the data in memory to the new player.
    3) Activate (click on) the second 20 plus minute player, press Command-A (to select the entire clip), and press Command-C (to copy the data to temporary memory).
    4) Activate (click on) the "new" player, ensuring the "play head" is still at the end of the file, press Command-V (to paste the main clip at the end of your "intro" clip), and use "Save As..." to save the new combined file player to hard drive.
This is not the most direct method but ensures neither of the original files are modified in case you make a mistake and have to re-do the process. It would appear that in your original work flow you somehow pasted a copy of the main clip to itself.

Having read many other questions similar to mine, I have also checked the QuickTime files in my System32 folder and I have the following:
    C:\Windows\System32\quick.ime
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime.qtp
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime.qts
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTimeVR.qtx
    Can someone please help me?
    Rob

You should only have two Quicktime files in your system32 folder.
Quicktime.qtp should not be there. It's likely that you have installed something such as a codec pack that has installed additional Quicktime components.
Try dragging Quicktime.qtp out of your system32 folder to your desktop and see if Quicktime works. If it does, try iTunes.
Were there any Quicktime folders in your system32 folder? If so you don't want those either.

  • Quicktime 10.0 won't play any of my wmv videos - help please

I get a pop up that says I don't have quicktime installed. Can anybody help? Thx

I assume you normally use the Flip4mac QT plugin to open WMV file. It hasn't been updated so it will look for QT 7 and not find Quicktime Player 7.
    The fix is easy:
Control+click on any WMV file. Then select "Get info" from the drop-down menu. Change the "Open with" setting by selecting "Quicktime Player." You may see two "quicktime Players" listed in the drop-down menu, select the one with the new "Q" symbol. That will be the QT 10 Player. Click on "Change All" and now they should all open with the QT 10 Player.
Some feature still won't work with Flip4Mac until it's updated.

  • After 10.6.8. Quicktime movies on my website won't play.  Others on iMac, ipad even PC no problem.  There is no way to install other version as they are all earlier.  Message says I may need to install additional download?  What?

HELP!  I have a MacBook Pro purchased 12/10. My website has two quicktime movies embedded.  After 10.6.8. these website movies will not play on my computer.
NO ONE Else has the problem.  I can play the movies from a file on my MacBook Pro purchased 12/10.  Movie works on my ipad and iphone.  Friends with iMac, PC etc. have no problem. ANy ideas?  My website can't open them on my computer.  I suspect there is lots of security stuff that is preventing the open.

    http://208.64.141.26:8081/muzmark_test.mov
Nothing opens when that URL is opened in QuickTime Player.
True "Streaming" files require hint tracks be included in the file.

  • Context menu oddity: 2 "QuickTime Player" items on OSX context menu?

    Hi,
This pertains to QuickTime Pro 7.0.4. I never noticed this before I upgraded to QuickTime Pro 7--when I right-click on a file that can be opened in QuickTime, I see two QuickTime Player items on the context menu. Either one opens the movie.
More specifically--when QuickTime is specified as the default application for a file, QuickTime Player appears at the top of the context menu as well as in the list of other applications that can open the file. When QuickTime is not the default application, two QuickTime Player items appear in the list of other application that can open the file when right-clicked.
I looked through the Contextual Menu Items folders, but couldn't find any duplicate files. This affects both my G5 desktop system and my PB G4; both are runnning the latest version of Tiger (10.4.6) as well as the latest version of DivX. On my G5, I have Final Cut Studio installed; but not on the PB.
Anyone else experience this oddity? Any idea how to get rid of the duplicate item on the context menu?
    TIA
    M

The contextual menu "Open With..." command uses data from the Launch Services app (part of the system software).
Having duplicates in the menu is a very old issue and there are dozens of reasons why multiple apps show up. It could be reading a "backed up" duplicate app or multiple copies (I have 4 versions of the QuickTime Player app installed) of the software.
Cleaning out the Launch Service list can be done with some third party software (I don't know the names) or with some Terminal commands (don't know them, either).
Maybe a Google search or a search at http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx can help you out.
