Two sided printing from Word

I can print two sided from a pdf window but not from Word.  How come?
In the printer dialog box the two-sided option is not there in Word, but it is there if I send it to a PDF and then print.
I have 10.8.4 and a HP Officejet 6500A

I found this on the HP site, seems to work for some.

  • Two sided printing from a Macbook Air

I switched from a Thinkpad to a Macbook and got a new HP laserjet 1102 wireless printer (because my old one that I used with my Thinkpad died).  I cannot figure out how to get set up to print 2-sided.  It was so easy on the Thinkpad.  Help!

    Hi,
Follow the steps below to print a manual two-sided print jobs:
From the file used to print click the File menu and select Print.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Press on Show Details to show any available print option.
Click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
Select Manual Duplex and set the optios accordingly.
If you are not being prompt to reload the page place the printed pages faced down in the inpuf tray, then open and close the top cartridge access door to resume the print job and complete the other side.

  • Two-sided printing from safari

i have a new iMac and HP Officejet Pro k550 (network connected)
the printer is capable of two-sided printing and works fine with word, mail, etc. ... but not with safari. the two-side option is greyed-out and cannot be selected.
is this a problem with my set-up configuration or safari? it's not the printer because it works fine with other apps.

    You're welcome.
Strange you can print 2 sided on some sites, but not others. I don't believe the web site dictates whether this is OK or not. It would be simply a function of multiple pages being processed, and the driver supporting 2 sided printing relative to a specific application.

  • Two sided printing directly from finder?

    Hello all
I am having trouble with two-sided printing directly from the Finder on a shared printer over Airport.
I know that I can highlight a file in the finder, then hit CMD-P and it will print the document for me (opening up the program that created it - be it Pages or Word).  I can select multiple files and print them this way.
What I *can't* do is get a two-sided document this way.
I have setup a preset for two-sided printing and set it as default.   It doesn't matter what program created the document - it just won't duplex print.  I have gone into CUPS and set the printer default as two-sided along the long edge.
My printer is a Brother HL-2240D, connected to an iMac running 10.6.8.  I am attempting to print files from a Mac Pro (1,1) running 10.7.5, over my Airport network.  I can print two-sided by opening the file in the word processor (Word or Pages) and using the Print dialogue, but I can't do it from the Finder.
    Can anyone please help?

I forgot to add - I have set up a duplex preset on the iMac (server) as well.  I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not...
    thanks!

  • Is two-sided printing possible with Keynote?

The power point slides for one of my classes opens in keynote so I have to print from there but my question is, is it possible to print on both sides when using keynote? When I go to print, and then the printing options I can see a two-sided printing option but for some reason I'm unable to click on it. I don't think its because of the printer I'm using because I've printed on both sides using Microsoft word with my printer before. I just can't seem to do it with keynote.
Should I just copy & paste to Pages to use two-sided printing?
    Message was edited by: AshesAshes

I just checked any I can select two sided printing with my printer in Keynote, so I don't know why you wouldn't be able to if you have a printer that is capable of it.
But instead of copy and paste, I would export it as a .pdf (Share>Export>pdf) and then you can try to print two sided in Preview and if that doesn't work, then add the .pdf files to Pages and print.

  • Two sided printing envy 120

New printer that should be automatically doing two sided printing.
But in Word I have to select two sided printing each time.
How do I make it a default?
    Thanks.

    Hi  @envy120user
Mac is very different from Windows. With Mac there is no simple way to create defaults. You can create a preset, and then simply select that preset each time you want to print, or yes, you can go into the CUPS to make changes. It is a little more complicated but not hard to do. CUPS is Apple’s printing system.
Open your Internet browser and enter the following (or click on it): http://localhost:631/printers which will take you to a list of your printers.
If you get a message that states Web Interface is disabled, close the window, open Terminal by typing Terminal in Spotlight, or Navigate to /Applications/Utilities and double-click on Terminal.
    In Terminal enter 'cupsctl Webinterface=yes'
Now you can open Safari again and go to http://localhost:631/printers.
The screen will now look something like the image below, choose your printer.
With the printer selected you see see the following,
When you choose Set Defaults, you will see a screen something like this,
Once you have completed this, you can close the browser and return to Terminal. This time in Terminal you can enter 'cupsctl Wbinterface=no'.

  • Two-sided printing problem with a Photosmart 6510

I have a new Photosmart 6510 and it is supposed to come with automatic two-sided printing.
I have tried printing two-sided and followed the advice of many previous thread but it has not worked.
I am using a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and Microsoft Word 2008.
When I go to the drop-down menu in the Print window and go to 'two-sided printing' the option to print both sides is greyed out, and it says that the paper type and size settings do not support two-sided printing. What size paper should I select and where can I do this?
    Any help would be great.

    Hi,
    Please try the following settings:
1.From the application used to print, click the File menu, then select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.
    2. To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as Copies & Pages.
    3. Select Layout from the drop-down menu.
    4. Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding.
If I'm not wrong, the duplexer support only A4 and Letter sizes
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...
Please let me know if you were able to successfully perform two-sided printing.

  • Stop two sided printing

When I print in word for mac, my HP Envy 4502 automatically prints multiple page documents as two-sided.  I do not want this.  How do it stop this from happening? There is no option to uncheck two-sided in word for mac like there is in other programs.

    Hello @TracySVA
    Welcome to the forums,

  • Two-sided printing option causes crash

    Hi all,
I searched a thousand times, but to no avail.
We have an HP printer, the DJ 6127 (DJ as in Deskjet ), and for a few years we've had nothing but trouble with it when printing from our Macs. I'll skip the details, but now, I've got all Macs able to print on it even through wireless. Phew.
Except that when you print and click on the "two-sided printing" option, whatever the application, it crashes.
A few months ago, it somehow worked on MS Word .doc documents, but crashed Preview and Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro for .pdf…
    Now, even MS Word crashes.
Between now and then, we'd installed a new router (a D-Link), which caused serious trouble (took me ages to finally find a way to make the whole thing work).
Is this a driver problem? Because if it is, then the latest drivers by HP seem to be completely broken…
    Thanks for reading,
    Peter Craddock

    Hello Peter,
The Layout > Two Sided Printing is part of the OS X print system, it is not vendor provided. So I don't think HP has a problem with their drivers. You have a problem that exists deep in your Mac.
The first thing I would do is download and run the 10.4.8 Combo Updater. If you kept your Mac updated by using the provided Software Update then the Combo updater may help to resolve a number of things. Once this is completed I would run the Repair Disk Permissions. This can also help to resolve printing issues.

  • HP OfficeJet j6480, Duplex (Two-sided) printing, adobe, and "default"

I've been through many of the duplex printing posts, and can't find an answer that works.
    The system:
A MacBook Pro running 10.5.6 with the latest HP printer drivers (1.1.1 as per
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/HPPrinter_Driver_1_11 )
A HP OfficeJet j6480 connected over the wireless network (or via USB, it doesn't
    seem to matter).
    The problem:
    1. Duplex printing from MS Word only works if I click the "Two-Sided Printing"
option in the print dialog +every time+ I print: saving the print setup
configuration doesn't retain the two-sided setting. But at least duplex
printing works in Word -- if somewhat awkwardly.
    2. In all programs with a print dialog box, the "two-sided printing" choice
selector in the [Layout] panel is greyed out.
    3. In Acrobat Reader and in Firefox, two sided printing just doesn't work
at all. No matter what the settings.
I've tried the hpijs drivers as well -- the 3.9.2 version did no good at all.
    (From http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs#More_Info .)
HP support was a little less than useless -- not only did they not solve
the problem, they made me late for dinner. sigh.

  • Option for Automatic two sided printing no longer available

Win 7 and HP c7280,  Word 2010.  Everything worked fine yeasterday but today when I tried to change from one sided to automatic two sided printing I got only two choices, one page or manual two sided.  It is set for automatic  in the printer properties but in the panel where it asks what you want to print I put in entire documant and then below that it asks for one sided or drop down menu used to say manula or automatic two sided, now it only says manual.  What happened and how to I fix it.  Printer Setup says the extra atachment is "installed"

Welcome back to the HP Community , I read your post about the print settings that seem to be missing from Word 2010. I have a few ideas in mind that may help you below. 1. Run the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results. 2. Uninstalling the Printer Software, restart the PC and reinstall the printer. 3. Print from other programs, and if you find the issue only in Microsoft Word 2010, post this issue in the Microsoft Forums to see if an expert there can help! • HP LaserJet P1005 Two-sided printing not working on network

    Good day!
I have a desktop, with Windowx XP, to which my LaserJet P1005 is connected via USB. My wife has a laptop, with the same Windows XP, from which she can print, but the two-sided option does not work right. She can check it and print, but the window to restart printing for the second side does not open and there is nothing we can do at this point.
I have trie duninstalling the printer from both computers and reinstalling the newest drivers, it still won't work.
    Thanks for your help!

I have an HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-in-One with the latest HP driver that displays the two-sided printing option greyed-out in the Layout window. According to HP, your printer must be capable of accepting an optional two-sided printer tray to work on a Mac. To me that is ludicrous since in Windows the driver supports manual two-sided printing.
To get around this, I select the Paper Handling window and from the Pages to Print drop-down list select Odd only instead of the default All Pages. After clicking the print button the odd pages print starting with the last page and ending with the first. I then remove all paper and reinsert the printed pages with the top of the page facing the printer. First, though, I reorder the pages with the first page on the bottom and the last page on top. If the total number of pages is an odd number, I remove the last page from the inserted stack, as that is the very last printed page. I then select Even only from the Pages to Print drop-down list and click print again.
    Problem solved.

  • HP Photosmart c3180 Two-sided Printing

I have been advised by HP support that it is not possible to use the two-sided printing feature on this printer with Mac, although it works perfectly on my PC. Does anyone know of a way to enable this feature on Mac or some workaround?

One way to do this would be to run Windows in Parallels or some other partition environment, and print from Windows on your Mac.

  • HP Deskjet 970cxi two sided printing

I've got an HP Deskjet 970cxi printer connected to a print server on my LAN.
I'm able to print to it from Leopard with no problems. Just works with the Leopard "HP Deskjet 970C - Gutenprint v5.1.3 drivers".
However, I can't figure out how to enable the duplex unit in the Leopard drivers.
When I goto the layout settings in the printer driver the "two sided" printing option is grey out.
How can I tell the drivers that I have a duplex unit to enable this option?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Steve

I have the same printer connected to a D-Link DP-300U print server. I get full access to the printer's settings, including duplex and photo settings, by using the HPIJS driver, which is an open source driver put out by HP. You can find a link to the OS X version of the driver at:

I see the Apple website says the latest HP printer driver is 1.1.1. When I bring up Print & Fax, it says my printer driver is 2.3.1.
