Two-sided printing greyed out (Phaser 6300)

So, in our office, there is only one Mac out of four that can access the two-sided printing options for our Xerox Phaser 6300. On all the other Macs, that option is greyed out. Yes, I've gone and made sure they all have the latest drivers installed etc. Anyone know what in the world might be missing, or needs to be done here?

Nevermind! I just figured it out. Apparently the same printer has two listings in the printer selection dialog. I just chose the other one and the option came back.
Lesson learned.

  • Problem with HP 1220c USB printer - two-sided print greyed-out

My client has a Powerbook G4 550MHz with Tiger 10.4 installed and I installed the latest HP 1220c driver.
When my client attempted to configure the printer via the printer setup page under 'layout' the two-sided print is greyed-out. Why?
    My client has admin rights.

The layout of the print window is not the same as OS 9.x and prior. There will not be a choice for double sided printing as there was pre OS X unless the printer comes with an automatic duplexer.
You will have to figure out how to print odds and evens in separate jobs and do it manually.

  • Two sided print option is grey out

Recently, I noticed that when I need to print two-sided documents, the "two-sided" print option is greyed out.  I have gone into System Preferences  Printers & Scanners- and under "options" for the printer enabled the HP Two-sided Printing Accesory (Duplexer).  This button continues to disengage (won't remain enabled) and each time I need to print two-sided, I have to repeat the above process. Please help

Hi,Try resetting the printing system and check if that may help:*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
    Select Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets. Next click the plus sign and select the listed printer. Within the Use drop down menu select the printer model and press the Add button. Hope that may help,Shlomi

  • Two-sided printing option greyed-out HP OfficeJet 7500a

    Hi,
Could anyone help me? I just bought a HP OfficeJet 7500a (which does support duplex printing) and I am unable to do two-sided printing as the dropdown menu (located in layout in the print screen) is greyed-out.
Do I require a driver or anything like that?
By the way I am running Mountain Lion Developer Preview if that matters.
    Thanks in advance.

  • HP LaserJet P1005 Two-sided printing not working on network

    Good day!
I have a desktop, with Windowx XP, to which my LaserJet P1005 is connected via USB. My wife has a laptop, with the same Windows XP, from which she can print, but the two-sided option does not work right. She can check it and print, but the window to restart printing for the second side does not open and there is nothing we can do at this point.
I have trie duninstalling the printer from both computers and reinstalling the newest drivers, it still won't work.
    Thanks for your help!

I have an HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-in-One with the latest HP driver that displays the two-sided printing option greyed-out in the Layout window. According to HP, your printer must be capable of accepting an optional two-sided printer tray to work on a Mac. To me that is ludicrous since in Windows the driver supports manual two-sided printing.
To get around this, I select the Paper Handling window and from the Pages to Print drop-down list select Odd only instead of the default All Pages. After clicking the print button the odd pages print starting with the last page and ending with the first. I then remove all paper and reinsert the printed pages with the top of the page facing the printer. First, though, I reorder the pages with the first page on the bottom and the last page on top. If the total number of pages is an odd number, I remove the last page from the inserted stack, as that is the very last printed page. I then select Even only from the Pages to Print drop-down list and click print again.
    Problem solved.

  • HP Deskjet 970cxi two sided printing

I've got an HP Deskjet 970cxi printer connected to a print server on my LAN.
I'm able to print to it from Leopard with no problems. Just works with the Leopard "HP Deskjet 970C - Gutenprint v5.1.3 drivers".
However, I can't figure out how to enable the duplex unit in the Leopard drivers.
When I goto the layout settings in the printer driver the "two sided" printing option is grey out.
How can I tell the drivers that I have a duplex unit to enable this option?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Steve

I have the same printer connected to a D-Link DP-300U print server. I get full access to the printer's settings, including duplex and photo settings, by using the HPIJS driver, which is an open source driver put out by HP. You can find a link to the OS X version of the driver at:

  • HP L7760 two-sided printing not working

I have an HP Officejet Pro L7760 which does two-sided printing, or it did until I upgraded from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5. I have reset the printer system, downloaded & installed the latest printer software from HP. I called HP. I called Apple.
I see the Apple website says the latest HP printer driver is 1.1.1. When I bring up Print & Fax, it says my printer driver is 2.3.1.
Does anyone know how to get back the two sided printing? Which driver version is correct? Any thing I can try?

  • HP ColorLaserjet 2600n-Two-sided printing with Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I have a question relating to double-sided printing. I have a HP Color LaserJet 2600n. Two-sided printing worked fine for me with Leopard. Since I updated to Snow Leopard (now I have version 10.6.4) the two-sided printing options in the printing dialogue are disabled (greyed out). I use the printerdriver 1.3.0.261 How to enable this option again? Software update does not have any new software for my printer.
    Thanks!

I have this printer and the same problem. This printer does not have a hardware duplex unit, the duplex is entirely manual.
In the old driver settings, you could check off the "Two sided" checkbox (beside the Collate checkbox), and the unit will basically print off the odd pages, then after that it will pause until you take the printed pages and put it back in the tray, then press the Go button to initiate the print for the other side.
There is no settings (besides Tray 3) in Options and Supplies.

  • Two sided printing on HP with Yosemite no longer available?

Since updating my iMac to the latest Yosemite, (10.10.2) my HP all in one C6280 printer does not even offer the option of two sided printing.  Is there a way to get this feature back? The printer used to do two sided printing, and the option used to come up, but no longer seems to be there.  I read several posts which suggested renaming a preset, but in the preset dialog box, it indicates that this is no longer an option.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

If it's greyed out, it could mean that your device does not support duplex printing under OS X.  One thing you could try if you haven't already is remove the printer entirely then add it back in again.  The drivers that Apple supplies are the latest drivers for this device, there are no full-featured drivers available for this OS version.
Also, verify that you are using the proper steps for manual duplex printing:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-6500A-e-All-in-One-Printer-seri es---E7/4083974/model/4083869/document/c…
If that doesn't work, you could try this two-sided printing application from HP:
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL35975/mp-88750-2/HP_Two-sided_Printi ng.dmg
If the above doesn't work, I think an email to HP support is in order.  I suspect that they dropped support for duplex printing for your device with the later OS versions.  When was the last time you had duplex support?  Was it automatic or manual (i.e. you had to flip pages and print again)?

  • Best Printer for Two-Sided Printing?

    Hi all,
I do a lot of printing of very long documents (up to 300 pages each) - right now I have an Epson CX4800 Inkjet which works very well, but I fear I am running it into the ground. Also, I am going through tons of paper and ink. I'd like to get an inexpensive laser printer (under $300) that can do duplex (two-sided) printing so that I can use less paper when printing out early drafts of projects. I don't want to have to manually flip the pages over and put them back through the printer because I am a ditz and a klutz and always wind up getting the pages in the wrong order when I do this - thus wasting even more paper. I just want a printer that can do automatic two-sided printing for under $300. Am I delusional?
mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

No matter what printer you are going for (please specify if you are looking for a colour or mono laser), the biggest expense you would encounter are consumables: toner, drums, transport belts, fuser unit. The reason you should do that first is that consumers are lured into buying a cheap printer and by the time of the first toner change they have to spend as much money as they did on a printer.
What you have to do first is look around for a printer that has lowest cost for consumables (i.e. lowest cost per page print). The easiest thing to do would be take a supplier of consumables, and write down all the prices for the toner for specific models of printers, then divide them by the number of pages you can print from that toner - in this case you will get a breakdown for each colour: say, a replacement toner costs £50 and yields 4500 prints (with standard 5% page coverage) = 1p per page for that colour. Then compare this costs against the costs of your other candidates and you got yourself the most cost-efficient printer.
Besides that though, you might hav e to spend money on things like drum (lasts for about 25000-40000 pages in SOHO printers) and transfer belt (again, 25000-40000) - but that all depends on a printer, as sometimes toner and drum are separated, so you have to get both, sometimes they are in one set, which cuts your costs.
In my case, I've got a Xerox Phaser 6120, and although it might not be suited for you, it's OK for me as duplex unit can be added on, and I don't do this many prints. In your case my biggest concern would be, as I have said, the prices for consumables.

  • Two-sided printing problem with a Photosmart 6510

I have a new Photosmart 6510 and it is supposed to come with automatic two-sided printing.
I have tried printing two-sided and followed the advice of many previous thread but it has not worked.
I am using a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and Microsoft Word 2008.
When I go to the drop-down menu in the Print window and go to 'two-sided printing' the option to print both sides is greyed out, and it says that the paper type and size settings do not support two-sided printing. What size paper should I select and where can I do this?
    Any help would be great.
    Thank-you

    Hi,
    Please try the following settings:
1.From the application used to print, click the File menu, then select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.
    2. To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as Copies & Pages.
    3. Select Layout from the drop-down menu.
    4. Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding.
If I'm not wrong, the duplexer support only A4 and Letter sizes
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...
Please let me know if you were able to successfully perform two-sided printing.

is this a problem with my set-up configuration or safari? it's not the printer because it works fine with other apps.

    You're welcome.
Strange you can print 2 sided on some sites, but not others. I don't believe the web site dictates whether this is OK or not. It would be simply a function of multiple pages being processed, and the driver supporting 2 sided printing relative to a specific application.

  • HP OfficeJet j6480, Duplex (Two-sided) printing, adobe, and "default"

I've been through many of the duplex printing posts, and can't find an answer that works.
    The system:
A MacBook Pro running 10.5.6 with the latest HP printer drivers (1.1.1 as per

A HP OfficeJet j6480 connected over the wireless network (or via USB, it doesn't

    1. Duplex printing from MS Word only works if I click the "Two-Sided Printing"

printing works in Word -- if somewhat awkwardly.

    3. In Acrobat Reader and in Firefox, two sided printing just doesn't work

  • The print menu on my MacBook Air won't allow me to select two sided printing, how do I do this?

    Hi Community,
I recently purchased a MacBook Air (my very first Mac) and I cannot access all of the printing options when I print.  I am able to print and the printer driver was downloaded, but my options are limited.  I cannot enable two sided printing, which is something I was able to do with my current printer via my old laptop.  I am in grad school and have a lot of journal articles to print and read that are 60-70 pages each.  I'd much rather print these two sided to save paper.  I have the latest version of OS X (version 10.8.5) and my printer is an HP Laser Jet P2035n.
Can anyone help me fix this issue so I don't have to use my old laptop to print?
    Thanks,
    Melissa

  • OfficeJet Pro L7590 and two-sided printing

Anyone been able to implement 2 sided printing with this printer. Seems like HP driver is broken, even though print setup allows one to check two-sided printing.

This may help in regards to this two sided issue. I did have some orientation problems on landscape mode but was able to print two sided. After hours of working between HP and Apple etc. I in theory figured out something that proved to work. HP's web driver page warns of not trying to use 10.5 drivers and programs on Snow Leopard. My theory was that in the upgrade process to 10.6 could there be some problems in the process of changing out the drivers and programs, (some programs are even said not to work at all by HP in S.L.). So I did a complete uninstall of all HP printer programs, software and drivers and then reinstalled the printer fresh in Snow Leopard. Wonder of wonders now the two sided printing works properly and the needed adjustments are all back. In a few different places but they are there and they do work. So maybe the problem exists in the upgrade process? I did not have the problems at all in 10.5 but after the upgrade everything changed. Now that it is more like a fresh install in SL all seem to work. The only thing I have not done yet is use the scanner process which HP admits is very different but they do give instructions about it on the driver download page. Hope this helps someone else.
