Two sites-slow link-share printer-network share

Hi,
Our school has two campuses. CampusA has 50 uses and campusB has 10 uses.
The two campuses are connected via slow link.  Currently, everything (AD(one domain) ,DHCP,NAP,internet) is setup in CampusA When staff(3/4) move from CampusA to CampusB (not that far, ~15 min), their traffic goes via the wireless link and as there
are only 3/4 roaming staff, slow link is OK. CampusB's 10 users traffic also goes via wireless link.
Now, we will have 80 students(all laptops) in 2015 in CampusB. We are using 192.168.4.0/24 subnet and we only have around 80 ips. Each laptop keeps two ips (lan/wireless) as a result we do not have enough ips. I could change the ip  to classC(172.16.XX)
but the issue is the slow link.
I guess there will be issues with AD replication, group policy, DHCP, NAP (wireless)!!! Am I right ? Should I create another subnet/domain/two way trust  for student- is it a good solution ?
**Student may move from CampusA/B  to CampusB/A  for various reasons and I need to make sure that they can access all the printers & file-share despite their  location (CampusA/CampusB) !!
Hope it is clear.
Please give your opinion.

Hello,
what kind of connection is between the 2 sites?
Slow link for AD is defined with 512kbps.

  • Best practice for lots of DP's over slow links

    Hi All,
We have an established environment consisting of 1 primary server (with separate SQL server), 10 secondary sites and (potentially) 2000+ sites, each with a DP.
Currently we have all the DP's in place as push DP's with rate limits set between 1% (daytime) and 75% (night time) to throttle the traffic. All but 100 of the sites are on variable links that vary between 2Mb and 16Mb depending on the traffic
needed. The 100 other sites are on very slow links (<1mb).
Network utilisation hardly ever exceeds 50% of the available bandwidth in normal use but can burst to 100% on rare occasions
We are concerned about the load on the primary server when deploying applications to the 2000+ sites, it takes a long time to get the application to all the DP's.
I have been given the task of re-designing the environment to meet the requirements:
SCCM traffic cannot block or affect normal network traffic (financial info etc)
A critical patch to the OS must be deployed as fast as possible to ALL DP's and then to all clients
A large deployment (>1GB) must not block the deployment of smaller but higher priority packages
My reasoning is that if I were to set the 2000+ site DP's to be pull DP's with the 10 secondary sites as content locations (prioritised to the secondary site each DP reports to, then any others) then that would meet points 2 and 3.
Point 1 is the sticky one... Normally I could use rate limits (as now) or pulse mode to limit the bandwidth used between the secondary site and the DP but a pull DP cannot use anything other than BITS.
What would be the settings for setting up BITS?
Where would be the better area? client settings (requires client on the DP) or via GPO?
Any suggestions as to preferred limits to set in BITS?

If your DPs belong to secondary sites, then there is no load on the primary site server to distribute content. Content flows from the site server that the DP belongs to which in this case are secondary site servers.
You will never prevent complete network usage using built-in software facilities. If those are your requirements you should discuss QoS with the network team and/or check out one of the two alternate content providers (and eliminate all or most of your DPs):
    Adaptiva OneSite and 1E Nomad.

  • Best way for two Macs to constantly share, not transfer, files

Since replacing the hard drive in one Mac, the file sharing is not working properly. The second computer (with new hard drive) can access files from the first but cannot save and graphics are missing. We've had certified Apple techs in here and they haven't figured it out.
We've tried adding a network hard drive and both computers hooked to it but it's REALLY SLOW!!
    Any thoughts?

There is no included method to replicate changes both ways. Have you tried looking at DFS replication instead of linked shares?

  • Slowing SMB shares

Hi Guys, I am looking for some advice please. I have a Windows 2003 R2 Std 64Bit Server. I recently made some network changes and have changed its IP address, it’s still using a /24 but we needed to restructure our internal IP ranges. Since doing
this a couple of users have reported slowness browsing shares on the Windows Server, it’s intermittent and only effects a few (large) folders. The user sent me a screen shot showing a (not responding) messgage in explorer, when I logged onto his PC it took
around 20 seconds to populate the content of a folder, next time I connected it was flying along. He is adamant that it was all ok until I changed the Servers IP address.
Although this is going to be a massive shock to anyone who has any kind of skill we don’t use DNS on this network, we don’t have AD and I know that 2003 will soon be EOL. I plan to change all of this within the next two months.
Can anyone think why this would have happened when we browse shares by IP i.e. \\192.168.50.50\share\data\ for example ? its not like it’s a DNS or NB issue.
    Appreciate any advice here..
    Bob - Reno

    Bob,
You didn't provide any information on the network topology between the clients and the file server, but unless you have some strange routing issues, my guess is the IP address change doesn't have anything to do with the intermittent file server performance
    seen by your users.
Are you gathering utilization metrics from your file server and network devices? Use perfmon on the file server to monitor the CPU % utilization, memory free, network r/w throughput, disk r/w throughput and disk r/w
service times (latency).  The service time (latency) metrics are "Avg. Disk sec/write" and "Avg. Disk sec/read". The latency metrics are in seconds so you'll need to multiply that by 1000 to get latency in milliseconds
(ms). Since you indicated that to problem often occurs when someone opens a large folder, I bet your disk read latency on the volume where the files reside are the problem. For a general purpose file server, you want
the latency to average less than 50ms.
It could be many things, but checking the utilization and health of the server in question is the best place to start.

I was told a customer could not print an ibook that they purchased?
Trying to figure out a way for them to purchase a book that they need to fill in information.
or download to their computers and print.
Any suggestions.... I have called and emailed - but can't get an answer
I have 5 books I would like to do this with.

Not as such.  You would have to put a pdf version on your web site for download, which the reader would then have to print for himself.  A pdf version might look rather different than the epub or .ibooks version, you would have to try that yourself to see how much.

  • Slow printing networked 64 bit win 7

I have read many many posts about this.  HOWEVER, I print directly to the printers.  Http via Cups.
    I can load my old XP machine as a VM on the windows 7 machine and it prints immediately!  What I have done so far;
    1) Disabled items with netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled (RSS autotuninglevel as well),
    2) Bidirectional
    3) Spooling (prints directly to the printer)
    4) Firewall and anti virus
    5) Print from VM of XP on this machine and prints in 2 seconds
    6) Removed all printers and then Added them back again
    7) Microsoft Fix it (even though I have no errors)
    8) Clean Boot (Still prints slow)
    9) SFC /SCANNOW Verification 100% complete, did not find any integrity violations.
    10) Printers spool folder is empty
    11) Hotfix, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=2526028
    12) Created 2 new user accounts, Copied to be sure no corruption
The system is slow whether it prints to a digital Ricoh, a Brother laser, an Epson laser or the okidata dot matrix printers.
Windows 7 professional 64 bit, 16gb ram, 3.4 mhz processor.
Not on a Domain.  Company runs windows pcs connected to linux server.  Cups printing.  No issues or problems on any other machines.  Most of them are XP virtual machines with immutable drives.
Would like to solve this before upgrading any other machines. (the staff will not stand this printing delay)

    Hi,
After doing more research, I noticed that to print from cups printer, we need to connect it via internet browser.
In Windows 7, the Proxy settings will cause this issue.
Please uncheck the "Auto detect settings" under Internet option:

  • SignalR - Two Hubs must not share the same name

I created asp.net mvc 5 application (call it "WebServices"), then i add my Hubs in a folder called "Hubs". Now
what happened is that SignalR (2.0.2) generate JavaScript proxies for hubs in environment: 1-in local machine. 2-when i publish to azure web role. Now when i publish to azure website (.NET is 4.5 and websocket is opened),it didn't generate proxies. Now i tried
to add hubs to App_Code folder ,and it generate proxies ,but the build action of the hub classes are "Content",when i change it to Compile it raised this exception :
Two Hubs must not share the same name. 'Webservices.App_Code.MyHub1, App_Code.c9aucf2j, Version=0.0.0.0,
    Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' and 'Webservices.App_Code.MyHub1, Webservices, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' both share the name 'MyHub1'.

  • Can I build two LV executables which share data using a type 2 global?

I have two LV applications which share data residing in a common VI configured as a type 2 global. Is it possible to configure my build settings so that both applications can continue to share data?
One approach I tried was to build the common VI into a dll which can then be shared. This works fine with the original applications but falls apart once I build them into executables.

Ha! Accessing VIs inside an EXE is the best trick I've learnt for a while. Thanks
As for the rest of my issues...
I was originally using a LV2 global to store an array of variables (variants). The elements in the array are indexed by storing the variable name as an attribute. This allowed me to easily pass data between modules.
What I wanted to do was build the modules (one by one) and then continue to use my loader, but once each module is built it seems to run in a completely separate memory space. I can't share the storage VI, even if I dynamically call it using VI server or build it into a DLL.
I have had a play with the data socket approach and it works perfectly - both in development mode and with built apps. At the moment I am just passing the entire storage array around (was the easiest mod to my existing code) but may be better to pass individual elements around.
So now I have a loader based application that can pass data efficiently between modules, with the flexibility that I can build new modules at any time
    Thanks for the help!

  • How can I link my two sites?

How can I link my two sites?

What do you mean by link?  You can add a text based hyperlink in Site A to Site B and do the same in Site B.
Or you can add a totally blank page to Site A and name it Site B.  Then add the following code to an HTML snippet:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO SITE YOU WANT TO REDIRECT TO"; </script>
Thanks to Cyclosaurus for this code
The Site B link will appear in the navbar of Site A and, when selected, will immediated redirect the visitor to Site B.  Create a similar page in Site B pointing back to Site A.

  • Infoview loading slow [DSL-VPN] because network up-link exhausted

    Hi everyone
We run XI R2 SP4 at work on a dedicated Win2003 Server with a Gigabit network interface. From the Office LAN (100Mbps) the Infoview portal is loading adequately fast, no delays, no partial screens. When I work from home over a 3Mbit down/384Kbps up DSL Cisco software VPN connection the InfoView portal generally loads terribly slow. I did some investigations in my XP registry and had a look at bandwith usage. It only throws up more questions.
I have the following settings in XP Pro's registry:
    TcpWindowSize: 64K
    GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize: not implemented
    Tcp1323Opts: 1
I played around with those values, but it didn't change much to the following issue:
Upon opening the Infoview portal in IE or requesting a folder's contents the network bandwith used is as follows:
    UPLINK: 40-50Kbps pretty much constantly
DOWNLINK: 3-30Kbps with peaks of 70-100Kbps
So my question is, if I want to speed up the portal loading, something's gotta change in the amount of UPLINK it requires to request a simple page. Yes, I made sure NOTHING else was running that requires bandwith, started with a clean 0
Or in other words: why on earth is Infoview demanding MORE UPLINK (384kbps) than downlink (3000kbps)? This makes no sense to me.
Am I overlooking the obvious here?
    Thanks all.
    Tom C.

    Hi,
Make sure your network throughput between the client and the server is below (slower than) the Throughput threshold parameter.
and then follow this article to check your syntax:
Slow-Link with Windows 7 and DFS Namespaces
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2011/12/14/slow-link-with-windows-7-and-dfs-namespaces.aspx
Meanwhile, make sure these files are already offline available and group policy applied.
    Hi Karen,
Thanks for the reply!  That's the link I used when I first attempted to establish this sceanrio in the first place, and it certainly is useful!  I got the Event IDs I was scanning for in that article, as well as the understanding that it takes
at least five minutes in one state before switching to the other (either offline to online or vice versa).  However, I'm certain I've rate-limited the network connection to 256 Kb/s, and I see in my registry that the slowlinkparam for my entry has a throughput
value of 512000 (I've changed it from the previous value of 4096000, but either way, they both should exceed 256 Kb/s).
How else can I make sure my throughput is slower than the established threshold?  Alternatively, how can I measure the threshold to see whether or not it's below the value we established for testing purposes?

  • APEX hosted site slow response issues

    Hi,
Is anyone else experiencing slow response issues when navigating through the hosted (apex.oracle.com) APEX site. About a 2-3 weeks ago we started noticing that it takes a long time to log into the site as well as navigate through anything
This might sound odd but often times how we would workaround it is by repeatedly "re-clicking" a link or a button to get the page to return. Whenever the site is slow in respnding we wound see "Waiting for apex.oracle.com" in the browser's bottom console.
We see the same issue with IE or Firefox and its only the apex.oracle.com site that has this problem.

As I posted on another thread:
Sorry for the lack of a reply here. With the long holiday in the U.S. and then my past two days of this week, spending at least a half a day each on apex.oracle.com, I haven't been paying attention to the discussion forums. I was unaware of this active thread.
Don't worry Ben, I'm not going to say "It's fine for me". TKyte had identified a bug or two in Ask Tom over the weekend, and I tried to fix them on Monday morning. What should have taken me 10 minutes took me two hours.
This has been my top priority for the past two days. There are some networking issues still being researched. A configuration change was made earlier today which seems to have alleviated the issue, but I'm not convinced that it will be a permanent fix.
Understand that this has not been a database issue nor an Application Express issue. Every time the performance was glacial, both yesterday and today, I examined the database and there was hardly anything going on. It was a hardware (filer) issue a month ago, and it appears to be either firewall or network card or network issue or all three. Regardless, I am embarrassed for Oracle's sake - this should be our flagship for Oracle Application Express, and the past month or two of poor performance can only serve to dissuade from using Oracle and Oracle Application Express.
