Two Stuck CD's in my Imac!

Can someone please help me with an idea of how to get the CD's out of my computer? My last option will be the apple store and if I cant get it out can someone tell me how much it would be for them to get it out or would I have to get a whole new computer?

You might want to try this: shut it down, pick it up and gently turn it on its side (CD side down) and shake very gently. Although, having two in there makes it a difficult job even worse. If you can't get it out, make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar; there shouldn't be much of a charge - unless having two CDs in there has damaged the drive.

can you have two separate iCloud accounts on one iMac device?

You can have only one iCloud "user configuration" per local user on the Mac. Who the local user belongs to doesn't mind. Since it's a local user it's not related with who actually uses it. So let's say you want to set up Photo streaming using your iCloud user, just configure iCloud (under System Preferences) the same way you did on your phone and you're done.
But, beware: if you're only interested in synching photos, uncheck everything else when configuring iCloud on the Mac, otherwise you will merge, for example, your husband contacts, calendar and mail with those on your phone.
If you want to avoid any problems you can easily create another local user on the Mac with your name, under System Preferences, System, Users & Groups. After you create the user, logoff. The Mac will ask if you want to disable autologin (since there's more than one user that can log in now), answer yes and you will be presented with a logon screen. Click on your account name, insert the password and configure iCloud to sync with your phone.

  • Can two Address Books exist on my iMac

I use my iMac for keeping tabs on a list of recuring events throughout the years as well as over the years.  The events generally follow in particular months each year and have new attendees as well as returning participants from previously held events who continue to attend the events.
I have kept records in Word for Mac, on Pages & Numbers, but nothing works best like Address Book.  I have several hundred participants that I would like to reorganize into a central location and find that Address Book might be best suited for the task.  The problem is that I would like to keep separate these names and dates from my personal/business Address Book if at all possible.
My question is, "Can two Address Books exist on the iMac, each with its own intended purpose?  Namely, Address Book 1 (Personal) and Address Book 2 (Events)?
    Any ideas would be welcome.
    Regards,

Two ways to go about this.  You can create Addressbook groups, or you can make a second user account within your Mac just to manage the second addressbook.  The advantage of the former, you can selectively search between two separate groups of addresses.    The advantage of the second obviously is totally separate operation.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2486 - explains the Smart Groups feature of Addressbook
Apple menu -> System preferences -> Users and Groups helps you setup multiple accounts. Fast user switching allows you to use a menubar switch to go between two different users.

  • Yesterday I installed "Mavericks" on my two identical machines (office and home, iMac i5 27'' late 2009) and now the cursor freezes for a few seconds after quitting an application on one machine and the the track pad stucks with safari - unsatisfying!

Even the back and forward buttons do not work than. Allover the complete installation process went different on both machines. One started the installation twice immediately after completion. I dont know what's wrong, I never have had such a trouble with Mac OS. I can't help myselfe an I am highly disappointed about Apple!
    Markus

After a few Google searches and a few downcasted days, I had to realize that I have to apologize to Apple, it was seemingly not alone their fault.
All trouble makers to Mavericks are accumulated in my environment:
External WD hard drives get in conflict with the nem Mavericks OS X, as well as drivers software from Logitech (LCC), which all is in use with my system.
Delete the WD software of external hard discs and uninstall (use uninstaller) the Logitech control center (LCC) and all is fine again.
Have fun with Mavericks, a just started to love it....

  • Projector stuck on first frame on iMac

    Hi,
I'm having a really weird problem. My projector version 11.5 and 12 gets stuck on an iMac with osx 10.8.2 on the first frame. Only way to make it progress is to disable the "run on background" and repeatedly deactivate and activate the projector window. Every activation progresses the movie for one frame. I tried this with a really simple movie with just two pics. On my MacBook Pro with same osx version everything works fine. And my old well tested projector works everywhere else.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
    Best Regards,
    Lassi

Thanks for the quick response and sorry for taking so long to answer.
In the end, after lots of testing, I installed Director on the specific computer. Surprisingly the movie didn't progress on frames even in the author mode. At that point I decided to reboot the iMac, and that fixed the problem
So anyone who's having Macintosh and Os X with the projector not starting, being stuck or not progressing in the movie, try restarting the machine.

  • Setup Assistant is stuck in migrating from an iMac to an iMac

    Hi all.
Migrating from a 2-yr old iMac to a new iMac.
At Apple's suggestion, used Setup Assistant with a FireWire connection.
Started at 9 PM Friday last night.
Went to bed at 10:30 when it said still 3 hours remaining.
This morning, at 7 AM, it said "About 8 minutes remaining".
Now, almost 1 1/2 hour later, it's still saying "About 8 minutes remaining".
So. It's stuck. What now? Won't be able to reach Apple for another 1/2 hour, and then I'll be at work...
Do I Force Quit Setup Assistant? CAN I Force Quit Setup Assistant. Should I physically pull the FireWire cable?
And if I can, then what? Wipe the disk, re-install OS? Then what? Re-do the same thing (use Setup Assistant)? To eventually get the same result???
    What a pain!
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! (I'll carry the iPad th follow this thread during the day).
P.S. Monday morning, should I sell my shares???

My two cents and maybe someone else will come in to correct me, but I wouldn't trust the transfer even if it appears at first glance to be OK. There might have been Directory corruption on the source computer which was preventing the transfer from completing. You'll have to do a hard shutdown and remove the cable. Then I would first erase and then reinstall the system and bundled software on the new Mac using the two discs that came with the computer. When that's done go back to the source computer, the old Mac, open up Disk Utility to verify and, if needed, repair the Disk. To repair, see "Try Disk Utility."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
If repairs were needed and the result is successful, then boot back normally and again from Disk Utility, repair Permissions. If no Disk repairs were needed proceed with a Permissions repair booted from the Mac's drive, not the Install Disk.
Start over. You will get a new Setup Assistant and try the transfer now.

  • Connecting two external monitors to 21.5" iMac

I have a 21.5" iMac at work. I also have two older vga/dvi monitors that are not getting any use at home. Is there a way I could hook these two monitors to my iMac desktop at home even though I only have one mini-display out on the back.
    Back of the computer is 4 usb 2.0, 1 Firewire 800, 1 Mini-display
I would like to be able to operate each monitor as extended desktops (to the right and left of the iMac) I found a converter box, but I am looking for something a little cheaper. Would getting dual vga to dvi then a dvi to mini display work or is there an adapter that goes from mini diaplay directly to dual dvi or vga?

Rudegar I hate to say this but you are wrong, I have successfully connected 2 20 inch monitors to my 21.5 inch imac using a usb to vga converter and the thunderbolt to vga addapter, the usb to vga adapter works but still is not as fast as the thuderbolt to vga cable. So if you are planning to use the 2 extra monitors for an enlarged gaming screen, your out of luck but for actually doing work it works perfectly.

  • ITunes - Two Libraries by Mistake on same iMac, How to Amalgamate and Deal with Duplicates?

    I'm using iTunes 9.2.1 on a PPC iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.11.
I have previously had lots of problems with a damaged iTunes library: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2009146?threadID=2009146&stqc=true
As a result of this (and I'm not sure how), all music I have added since I got it working again has been stored in a folder called "iTunes Music" (Macintosh HD:Users:Username:Desktop:iTunes Music) which appeared on the Desktop. I also have various iTunes Library files (plus .itdb and .xml files)  on the Desktop (I didn't put them there, that's just what appeared).
All music added priror to this is in Macintosh HD:Users:Username:Music:iTunes:iTunes Music.
Everything works in iTunes (as you would expect - it just points to the relevant folder).
I would like to amalgamate the two iTuens Music folders and file all the music in the correct place (wherever that may be) - is there a simple way of doing this?
Another problem I have is duplicated music - I  imported into iTunes lots (probably 20+ Gb) of duplicate albums at a higher bitrate than I previously had and deleted the existing lower-bitrate version from iTunes. Unfortunately, I didn't realise that, because of the two iTunes music folders, the older version is still stored in the older folder, even though iTunes isn't using it.
Is there a simple way to identify and remove the older lower-bitrate music from the machine without searching every single album in Spotlight?
I've spent an awfully long time correcting and completing track names, information and artwork in iTunes so I really don't want to lose any of that in the process.
    Thanks in advance ...

I totally feel your pain. I too have a similar setup, a G4 running Tiger wherein I ripped my vinyl to a higher bitrate than my CD copies. I have in one of thses threads a script that was written for me that would rummage across the home network and pull down all the lower bitrate copies and move them, but I had a hard drive snafu, ran out of space and never got around to it..
I DO think however, that you can display the bitrate of the files in the list view options within iTunes and sort the files that way, and move the duplicate files you don't want to the trash. From within iTunes.. Let me go fire up the livingroom frankenbox to check..
Yup.. If you use the View Options you can sort through the master list in iTunes by bitrate..
    http://imageupper.com/i/?S0300010100011D1344782818223713
Takes a bit to sort out the tracks but it's workable..
As to joining the libraries that you've gotten them cleaned up, you need to drop all the song files into a single folder and let iTunes sort them into the default location. There is a submenu here:

  • If I daisy chain two Thunderbolt Displays to a 2011 iMac 27" can I connect a Wacom Cintiq HD to the other Thunderbolt port?

In one Thunderbolt port are the two Thunderbolt displays, in another Thunderbolt port is the Cintiq HD. Would this work on an iMac 27".

Looks like 2 external displays are the max, even for the 2-port (TB) iMac.  So if the Cintiq shows up in ASP and is considered by the computer as a display, then NO, you won't be able to use the Wacom Cintiq in 'addition' to (2) TB displays.

  • Two problems with iPhoto and mutiuser iMac

I have an iMac with two users. I moved my iPhoto library to the Users/Shared folder. When I log on as the first user and open iPhoto it opens to the library in the Users/Shared folder, which is what I want. When I log on as the second user (after closing iPhoto for the first user) and open iPhoto there are two problems.
First I cannot stop the "Welcome to iPhoto" window with the tutorials from opening. I uncheck the box at the lower left hand corner but it always opens every time I close and re-open iPhoto.
And second, When I open iPhoto holding the option key down, I get the option of selecting which library I want to view. I select the library in the Users/Shared folder, but when I close iPhoto and re-open I get the library for that user. Although when I open iPhoto and hold the option key down to select which library I want the message states "The same photo library will be used the next time you open iPhoto."
Can someone help me out with these two problems?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Both of these sound like a damaged Preference file in the Second User Account. So:
+In the Second User Account+ - i.e. the affected one: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Stuck transferring files from old iMac to new

Have new iMac connected to old via FireWire as directed during initial setup of new iMac. Transferring no more than 180GB and the transfer is stuck claiming About 7 hours and 15 minutes remaining. Old iMac was running fine (slow, but fine) and this has been stuck for the last hour or so. Unsure as to OS as the Mac is still in setup mode.

Well, there is very little drive activity from the old iMac BUT I restarted it and started the process over, de-selecting some of the items. Same results though I let it sit for a couple of hours and now it claims there is five hours left. VERY slow but making progress. My guess now is that the iMac's drive was SO fragmented that it is taking an inordinate amount of time to transfer.

  • Two quick questions about the new iMacs...

I work at a church, and this summer, we are breaking ground on a new building. I am hoping to get a new iMac to go in the new sound booth to run the Power Point. Two questions:
Would a church get a special discount when buying from Apple?
Did I hear somewhere that the new iMacs support an external monitor (a different output than the main monitor)?
    Thanks!
    Matthew

<<Would a church get a special discount when buying from Apple?
Did I hear somewhere that the new iMacs support an external monitor (a different output than the main monitor)?>>
I know Apple offers education and government discounts... I'm not aware of discounts for church organizations.
Yes, the iMac CD offers support for dual monitors, mirrored and extended.

  • Two Apple ID's on one iMAC?

We have one iMAC.  My wife has an iTunes library and i have a seperate one.  She also has a Macbook and we both have iPODs and I have an IPAD.  Right now we only have one Apple ID and everything is tied to that.  How can I add a seperate Apple ID to the IMAC and tie each iTunes library to a specific ID and designate which IPOD, IPAD, and MACBook to the appropriate ID?  We would like to use cloud, but I don't want to sync her photos, music, etc... to my hardware.  Thanks

There's no reason why different users on the same computer can't have different Apple ID's. Just sign in on iTunes and in the iCloud preference pane with your own ID.

  • Can I use two operative systems running in  my iMac G5?

A few weeks ago I bought a digital videocamera, Canon MV830i, it's an easy and a cheap cam.
Well, now I've filmed some stuffs and I want it over to my iMac. I put in the DV-cable, with firewire, into the cam and the computer. Nothing is happening. I try to open up iMovie but it says ther is no videocamera connected. And then I read on the box, which the videocamera were delivered in, and it says that I need to have an earlier operative system than Mac OS X Tiger, 10.4.3, that I have.
So that i wonder is if I can download or buy an earlier operative system, ex. Panther 10.3, and still have my Tiger operative system in the computer.
Do you knoe what I'm going to do? Please help me!
Thank You Max Landegren, Stockholm, Sweden

And then I read on the box,
which the videocamera were delivered in, and it says
that I need to have an earlier operative system than
Mac OS X Tiger, 10.4.3, that I have.
Max, it's unlikely the camera requires Panther. The box was probably printed before Tiger was available. If the camera ran in Panther, mostly likely it will run in Tiger too. That's how these things usually work.
Before going to all the trouble to locate and install Panther, I suggest you try to get your camera to work in Tiger. iMovie Help has some tips about troubleshooting FireWire, as well as Apple's online information for iMovie. Both are available in iMovie's Help menu.
