Two Trojans detected on my mac

I have a mac OS X and have Norton Anti Virus for Mac installed
Following the recent news reports regarding the infection of macs from a Trojan Virus hidden in a Flash Update, I ran a scan which detected two trojan viruses infecting my mac, I clicked "Repair" but a later scan showed the viruses were still infecting my mac.
What should I do now?

Hi ...
Your Mac may be infected by the flashback trojan.
Run the F-Secure Flashback removal tool >   Flashback Removal Tool - F-Secure Weblog : News from the Lab
Use OpenDNS to block malware in the future  >  OpenDNS is blocking the Flashback Trojan, or what’s being described as one of the single biggest Mac security incidents of all time.: Apple Support Communities
Make sure your Mac OS X software is up to date. Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update ...
BTW, Norton causes more harm than good on a Mac. Check out the results of an ASC forum search for Norton >  Community Search: Apple Support Communities

My avast! antivirus software is identifying two Trojan viruses on my MacBookPro (Max OSX 10.7.5) that seem to be related to my Outlook for Mac.
    An example of one of the file names is:  /.MobileBackups/Computer/2014-06-22-151618/Volume/Users/stevekreitner/Documents /Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/Main Identity [Backed up 2014-06-22 12.48.35]/Data Records/Message Attachments/0T/0B/0M/9K/x26_9605.olk14MsgAttach
Any suggestions on how to locate and remove these virsues?

Actually, you can delete the entire Main Identity folder for Outlook that has a backup date in brackets [xxx] as part of its name since that was created when you used the Microsoft Database Utility to rebuild your email database. The folder that is only named Main Identity is the one in use. The other is now nothing.
That should be true but sometimes users are in the wrong Identity. Outlook 'forgets' what is supposed to be the main default Identity and opens in the wrong one. You need to check the database file in the Identity to see date modified to know for sure.
Typically, after rebuilding you delete the rebuild after a bit when you are satisfied with the rebuild. There should only be one Identity in the Identities folder. However, most users don't understand what to do with the copy that is made and never deletes anything.

  • Virus / keylogger / trojan / adware on a Mac?

How do i find and remove virus / keylogger / trojan / adware on a Mac?

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • I have two trojans I can't get rid of

I have Trend Micro for mac that keeps find two trojans that apparently came attached to an emal e-card.  I have also downloaded ClamXav from the apple store that seems to find these trojans and delete them, but the keep reappearing.
What do I need to do?

Trojans attached to an e-mail are almost certainly Windows malware, and of no harm to your Mac.  (I have yet to hear of Mac malware being distributed that way, though it could happen in the future.)
Of course, you should still delete them, but since spam containing Windows malware is very common these days, it will just come back.  Note, though, that you should not allow your anti-virus software to quarantine or delete e-mail messages, as that can cause your mail database to become corrupt.  If you are using Apple's Mail, use your AV software to find the file containing the message that has the malware in it, and show it in the Finder.  In ClamXav, you control-click the malware in the list and choose Reveal in Finder.  The file's name should end in .emlx, and if so, double-click that file to open the message in Mail.  (This does not open the attachment!)  Then delete or junk the message in Mail.
    Good luck!

  • Any risk having opened trojan ZIP on my MAC ?

    Hi community.
I hope, someone can help me:
Today I received an e-mail (seemed to be a booking conformation from booking.com) with an attached ZIP file, that unfortunately was opend by my wife. "Opened" means that she double-clicked on the file - for about a second the unpack-icon appeared in the dock and then disappeared.
Later I found in several forum threads, that these mails are known to include a trojan called Troj/Bredozp-ip.
I'm now wondering wether these kind of trojans can have any effect on my MAC ?
From all I know about viruses and trojans, I understood that MAC is rather safe, as long as I don't accept any installations with password etc.
I would be happy, if anyone (with a deeper knowledge on this topic than I have) could confirm that this is right.
Also I would be interested to know if there is ay chance to find out in OSX lion, whether my system is infected by a virus or trojan.
    Thanks,
    Tobias

Before you delete anything, we need your help. Some AV folks in our community need to analyze these files in order to protect others. Before you delete anything please consider doing the following:   Upload either the original .zip file or the MacGuard application to http://www.VirusTotal.com.  If either is not detected by ClamXAV, then also upload it to http://cgi.clamav.net/sendvirus.cgi.   If you are uncomfortable doing this for any reason and can determine the URL of the site where you got it please send the link to [email protected].
Removing strange software can be a task.  The following outlines various ways of uninstalling software:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a Startup item or a Log In item.  Startup items are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the Delete [-] button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Note that you must have this software installed before you install software you may need to uninstall.  Uninstallers won't work if you install them after the fact.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them and others at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on removing software and dealing with spyware and malware.
After removing all the components of the software you may have to restart the computer to fully disable the software.  This will be the case when removing software that has installed a daemon.  After the daemon has been removed you need to restart the computer to stop the daemon.  Alternatively, you can kill the daemon process using the Terminal application or Activity Monitor.

  • Can you have two apple ids on one mac?

Can you have two apple ids on one mac? We each have iPhones and want to utilize iCloud.  Is this possible?

No, in this case the 2 user accounts with its own Apple IDs would be completely seperated.
If you want to share this things like music and app purchases you will have to to something else.
    1. Create two user accounts on your Mac (user A and user B).
    2. Create two iCloud accounts just for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Photos, etc. (one for user A and one for user B):
On your Mac (with Mac OS X Lion or Mountan Lion):
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > iCloud > Create an Apple ID (button in left corner)
On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (iOS 5 or later):
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > iCloud > Get a free @me.com address and create a new Apple ID
    3. It is not recommended because you shouldn't share your Apple ID account information with other people but you could set up your old Apple ID as an account just for store purchases (Apps, Music, ...) so that everyone of you can manage the purchases in their own library (Access is limited to 10 devices). Therefore you have to setup this "old" ID in Settings of your iOS devices (Settings > iTunes & App Store) and in iTunes on your Mac.

  • I would like the share an iTunes library between two different accounts on one Mac. How do I do this?

iTunes no longer works properly (aka at all) while using one of the user accounts set up on my iMac. It does, however, work when logging in under another user account on the same iMac. (if any of you can help me solve this issue that would be perfect). If there is no solution can anyone help with my request to share an iTunes library between two different accounts on one Mac. How do I do this?

Copy it to his computer into his iTunes library and authorize his computer with the iTunes account used to purchase them..
You cannot tranfser items from one iTunes account to another. Purchased items remain part of the iTunes account is was purchased with.
iTunes account - used to purchase items
iTunes library - where purchases (and CD RIPs) go on the computer

  • Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

    Hi Barney,
That's exactly what I want. I have a personal user and a business user on my MacBook Pro. I want both users to have the same contacts so if I add a contact while I'm logged into my personal user, it will show up when I'm logged into my business user. I want both contacts books to be exactly the same; like you said. So, I used my business user AppleID when I enabled iCloud for my personal user and I enabled iCloud for my business user with that Apple ID as well. For my personal user, I selected Contacts and Calendars to sync with iCloud. For my business user, I selected everything to sync with iCloud. The problem is... it didn't change anything. I restarted my computer to see if that would do anything but nothing happened. I'm not super savvy with Apple products, so maybe I'm completely confused.
    Hi Xeni,
Thank you for your response, as well.

  • I created two iTunes libraries on my mac mini and would like to merge them into one library. What is the easiest way to do this?

I created two iTunes libraries on my mac mini back in the day. I would like to consolidate them into one iTunes library. What is the easiest method to do this? I do use i-Match to access all my music from  iCloud, if that makes any difference.  Thanks. Mark

Thanks for the reply. When I created the 2 libraries years ago I would hold down the options key and had 2 library names to choose from. Now it just shows a lot of files when I do that, With over 7,000 songs I think I will just look for the few songs from the original library I used to use that still interest me, if they don't show up in my default current library. Thought there would be any easy was to integrate all my music files into one library. I am definitely not going to spend days manually doing this, but thanks again.

  • Share a library between two users on the same mac?

It is possible to share a library between two users on the same mac?

It's doable. As it's been pointed out Aperture has no provisions for file locking so you can't have two users accessing the library at the same time. This includes having one user having the library open only for browsing. Aperture doesn't have a +Read Only+ mode, when it opens the library, even if you make no changes to any images, the library will be written to.
This also means you can't have one user open the library and then stop using Aperture but still have the library open and then have another copy of Aperture open on the library.
Of course if you have two copies of Aperture running even they are on different libraries you'll be in violation of the license and you'll have bigger problems to worry about then a toasted library.

  • Two users (on the same Mac) using same RAID simultaneously?

O.K. I know you should never never ever connect two different Macs to the same RAID unless using Xsan. . .
How about connecting two users on the same Mac simultaneously?
In other words, can I have one user manipulating data on the RAID in the background while reading the data using a second user (on the same Mac)?
    Thanks,
    Ed

That depends on the application in question.
Since all the data requests are coming from the same Mac, you don't have the issues you would have if you had two different machines talking at the same time.
However, it now depends on whether the application(s) you're using supports file locks.
As long as the application that's manipulating the data properly locks the part of the file it's working on, and that the application you're using to read the file reads the locks and knows whether or not it's OK to use that part of the file, you should be OK.

i set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same apple ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

Well if you use the Finder Go menu to Computer, a window opens up double click on your boot drive and then on Users folder, open the other user folder and open Public and drop your files into DropBox
When you do this it will copy them and change the permissions and user assigned to it, so log into the other user and place them into your respective normal folders.
Once you have all your files over and don't need the old user, use System Preferences > Accounts to delete it if you wish, however it's good two Admin accounts on the machine in case something bad happens in the other. Some people for security reasons on use a Standard account for most uses and a emergency Admin account.
One can still do most Admin things in Standard user.

I agree with Chris CA that this is the way I would *expect* iTunes to behave.
When I look at iTunes from my account (my music is in ~/Music/iTunes/ and not available to my spouse's account), I can see in my music library all my rips and my purchases, just as I would expect. I can use Store>View My Account (<myAppleID>) and all is as expected. Home sharing is NOT on.
Doing the same from the other account is not much different, actually. Nothing in the library yet, of course. Store>View My Account (<herAppleID>) also works. I CAN authorize my computer to play her music. I CAN view her iTunes purchases. When I attempt to download the purchases to HER library, though, I get the following dialog box:
Now I interpret this to mean that this computer (mine) will not download from a different AppleID (also mine) for 90 days. Is that [interpretation] correct?
