Two users on one library?

I want to put my iPhoto library on my Time Capsule, and I want my fiancee and I both to be able to use it. Will this create any problems? What if we both have it open at the same time?

What do you mean by 'use'?
As Larry says, iPhoto runs very slowly on a wireless connection.
There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and move to the other machine. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running on both machines for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a dmg. Some folks have tried this on a Time Capsule with no luck.
On each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How to turn two users into one?

    Hey there!
    As I selled my MBP last month I copied all its datas to my iMac via migration assistant and created a new user for it. So I have now two accounts with different photos, documents etc.
    My problem now is how to turn these two users into one?
    I want all my photos appear in Aperture of my first user, I want all my documents appear in "Documents" of the first user and so on..
    Is it able? If yes, how could I realize it?
    Thanks for your support!
    René
    PS: 2 Users on iMac -> 1 User on iMac.

    Thanks for your help at first.
    But you usually can't "merge" two "normal" user accounts successfully.  If both accounts have data for the same application, it will be very difficult or impossible to merge them by copying files & folders.
    I cannot merge them.. So there is the question how to copy all medias from Aperture to my other Aperture medias?
    Can I export my whole medias and import in at the other users Aperture? And how? #
    Edit: I dont want to have two different libraries at all.. I want them to be together in just one..

  • Question - how do I combine two users into one?

    I have migrated a lot of data to a MacBook Pro using Migration Assistant, in the process two users have been created on the Mac. How do I combine the two users into one?

    You don't. Just log in with one, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide /Users/ as the path. and drag the folder there; you'll need to provide an administrator password at some point.

  • Two user accounts, one iTunes library

    Hello,
    trying to solve problem with sharing one itunes library on macbook pro (mid 2009) between two users. I moved all itunes folders to shared folder, open itunes on new account with alt key, choose library and seems to be working. However it isnt...on my account I did the same, worked sometimes. After a qwhile I recognized that i cant use both accounts simultaneously. Once I log in to new account and open itunes and then I just switch users (not logging off) and try to open itunes, the first picture warning appears...I include also pictures with sharing preferences which should be OK.
    Any ideas how to solve this?
    Once I log off from account, it starts working with other one. But wioth simple switching users, it doesnt work (or rarely:-/)

    yes.
    How will she access "my" iTunes library from her account?
    click here for information.
    you can authorize iTunes on her user account to play/use content purchased with your iTunes store account and vice versa.

  • Itunes Match: Two users on one computer.

    My wife and I share one computer. We switch between users. I set up my itunes match under my user name, then I swtiched to her user and
    tried to set up ITM. no go I get this message
    Any advice?
    Cheers

    You can only associate each computer (not account on the computer) to one apple id.  This is a restriction of match and automatic downloads from iTunes.  See the iTunes terms and conditions and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627.
    I haven't tested it yet but I think if you have two user accounts on a machine and each has a different apple id, one of the accounts will have to login to match with the Apple ID that was authorized on the machine.  I think if they do that, the user's iTunes library will be matched and combined with the library of the other user''s appleid only up in the cloud.  You may or may not want that behavior.  Also, I think if the user switches back to their AppleID, as long as they kept copies of their music locally that music though also in the cloud would still be accessible since it is on the disk.   But anything showing with the cloud download icon (ie: stored only in the cloud) would disappear from the library until they login to match again since that music is not on the disk.   The relogin to match will go thru steps 1..3 but much faster on each relogin and all music in match would show up again. I think the user can go purchase music on their id, login to match on the match id, and iTunes will auto match those purchases since they are added to the physical library.
    Note, this is speculation on my part based on the fact that I was able to logout of my match ID and login to another ID to updated some aps from the app store.  What happened was all my cloud music disappeared, local music stayed that was also present on the disk ws still there.   I downloaded some apps, logged out, and logged back in with my iTunes match apple id and everything came back.
    I would caution not to do this on an iOS device.  On there, if the music is not in the cloud library when logging in and out of match across id's, it may be deleted.  Also, the relogin on the iOS device, for me at least with 13,000+ songs, takes 20 minutes on an iPhone 4S.

  • How can I sort photos from two users into one

    I have two users on my Mac and I am trying to get all my photos onto my new External hard drive.  I want one user, one photo library stored on my external hard drive.  Help!

    If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
    Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager

  • Sharing photo's, two users on one computer

    Hi,
    I have two user's on my computer, both with different log on's etc. How can another user look at my photo's that are currently in aperture with out having to move folders around. Is there an easier way then just making multiple copies and saving them else where?
    Can this also be done with iTunes so that we can share music without having to make duplicates?
    Thanks.

    You could probably move your Aperture library to a location outside your home folder, where the second user could open the library. You'd need to be careful about permissions, and I'm not 100% sure how it would work.
    For iTunes, sure you can do it. Often it's easiest to just put the songs in a shared location, and have both people maintain their own iTunes libraries (thus playlists and playcounts aren't shared, but the song files themselves are). You can also share the library file, but it's more difficult.
    Not too tough to do, but I don't feel like typing it up and helping with troubleshooting (especially in an Aperture forum)... do a Google search; it's been documented fairly extensively out there and I'm sure MacUpdate also has tools to help with this.

  • Trying to share iTunes libraries between two users on one iMac

    Ok, so I have two users on my iMac, but I want to share iTunes libraries between the two (so that both have the same music, movies, apps...), but for some reason I can't! So first I tried turning on iTunes while holding option key so that I can open my Library from my user that i'm trying to grab the music and everything else from. But for some reason it said that I didn't have the permissions to (which both ARE admin). So then I went to the Preferences on iTunes and tried to change the directories from where to grab the media from, but it wouldn't let me access my other users music folder, it siad again that I didn't have permissions for this. I'm really fed up, please help me.

    Chris, thanks for the reply.  Are you telling me that I should move the iTunes folder itself, and not merely the iTunes Media folder, as instructed by the KB article?  At this point, I'd be willing to try just about anything, but the KB article specifically states:
    Important: Do not move the iTunes folder, the iTunes Library file or the iTunes Library.xml file.
    As I stated above, I did exactly what the KB article said to, which is to move the iTunes Media folder (called iTunes Music on my iMac, since the library has been around since pre-iTunes 8 or so) to /Users/Shared, and then go into iTunes Prefs for each user, and under the advanced tab, choose the location of the library for each user.  I know that this method does NOT share iTunes library (.itl or .xml, or the other associated files), and doing what you suggest would, but I'm curious if that would cause any problems.
    And yes, like I said in the OP, I did check/change all file permissions on that folder appropriately.
    Thanks again for the help!  Please let me know if I'm reading your suggestion right!

  • Issue in workflow workitem that gets triggered to two users at one time.

    Hi All,
    Below are the query  details:
    Module:  HR
    Area:      Workflow
    Process: Hiring
    There is an workflow in HR module that is triggered when an hiring action is run against an candidate.
    There are two or three maximum approvers  which is based on the position to which the candidate is hired.
    Issue:
    During the hiring process some times the workitem is getting triggered to two users at once.
    One is the actual approver who should receive the workitem in his UWL and other is the user of our service center who is no where involved in the approval process.
    Analysis Done:
    We checked the workflow log and found that the actual approver's ID is getting displayed under agent and workflow is complete. But the other user's ID is no where shown in the log but he has received an workitem in his UWL that makes the issue still confusing.
    Awaiting for experts suggestions.

    Reply to Susan Questions:
    You say that 'the workitem is getting triggered to two users at once' - do you mean that there are two workflow instances that are being kicked off at the same time when the hiring action is performed? Or is it that the workflow is generating two tasks that go to these different users?
    Ans : There is a single task attached to the activity.
    Is this a custom workflow?
    Ans : Yes.
    Are you certain that the erroneous task is only going to the user in the service center, or is it perhaps going to everybody (marked as a general task)?
    Ans : The task is marked as general but the workitem is received by only one user of the service center at a time.
             As this issue has taken place 4 times in the past year all the 4 receiver were different belonging to different position.
    Reply to Pavan Questions:
    1. Did you try to check the SPRO settings with respect to Hiring Process ,is there any where based on the position does workflow is forwarding the workitem to the other user.
    2. Check the other user Roles and in the Org Structure where he is located , there could be a possibility of wrong position holding.
    Ans : We checked the org structure, but org structure of both the centers are different and independent there is no linkage    between the two.
    *3. IF you are using custom workflow then check if any standard workflow is also getting triggered. Check *
    Ans : Yes this is a custom workflow, but no other Standard workflow is being called.
    4. Check in the SWEHR3 is any custom entries maintained.
    Ans : No, entries are maintained in SWEHR3.
    Additional Info :
    The task that triggers the workitem has an send mail step before it.
    The send mail activity is to notify receiver that there is an workitem lying in the UWL.This mail is received by the actual user and not by the other one.The next step is the task that creates workitem which gets triggered totwo different IDs.
    This scenarios mostly has come up when the number of approver is 1. If the approver is more than 1 the  workflow runs fine without  deviating the workitem to any worng user.

  • How can I put photos from two iphones in one library?

    I want to use one family Macbook pro for downloading photos from two iphones with separate apple IDs.  In other words, we'd like to have all our photos stored in one library on the Macbook.  Possible, and if so how does one set it up?

    If you use iPhoto on the Macbook you can merge the photos from multiple cameras (iPhones) into one library. The Apple Id is irrelevant for this.

  • Multiple users/profiles, one library?

    Until recnetly, my daughter had the only ipod in the family and was the only itunes user. Now the whole family has an ipod. We all have seperate Windows profiles (one for Mom, Dad, daughter, etc.) but want to use one library to store all of our music and control ipod content with playlists. How can we do that? Sharing only seems to work between computers - not user profiles.
    Nano and Shuffle   Windows XP

    I happened on to this Windows discussion by mistake, but did have the same problem with my Mac... don't know if the solution for the Mac is at all transferable to PC or not, but...
    I found my "iTunes Music" folder... in Mac it's in the "music" section of the HD window.
    I then moved this folder (containing the music, etc. I want as the main library) to the "shared" folder in the "users" folder in the HD.
    I then went to "Preferences>General>iTunes Music folder location" in iTunes and selected "Change" and then found the new location of iTunes Music folder I just moved.
    I then went to my wife's profile on our Mac, and repeated the location change in her iTunes preferences.
    I then went to File>Add to Library in iTunes and selected the above folderand iTunes imported everything (that had been in my iTunes) into her iTunes.
    Don't know if PC is this user-friendly (probably not)... but perhaps this can lead you somewhere.

  • Connect two users under one user

    Dear Sir,
    I’m using oracle database 10.2g, with data (~40G) since 2005 for retail, account, time attendance.... systems,
    1-i don't want to lose any of those data
    2- I’m not going to change our application we just finish the whole implementation,
    So I’m planning to split the database to two users one (historical data) and the other (Current data),
    But i still want the finance, and credit control department to run the reports as it is.
    So can i create a new user (middle_layer) with views to read the data from the two users (historical Data) and (Current Data)
    And update, insert and delete on the data of (current data) user only?
    For example:
    SQL> connect middle_layer;
    SQL> create view sales_order_header as
    Select * from current_data.sales_order_header
    Union all
    Select * from historical_data.sales_order_header
    SQL> select * from sales_order_header;
    SQL> insert into sales_order_header values (...);
    Thanks in advanced.
    Regards,

    Waiting any Idea,
    CREATE USER data_history IDENTIFIED BY test;
    CREATE USER data_current IDENTIFIED BY test;
    CREATE USER middle_layer IDENTIFIED BY test;
    CREATE TABLE data_history.sales_order_head_h;
    CREATE TABLE data_current.sales_order_head;
    CREATE ROLE historical_data_reader;
    CREATE ROLE historical_data_loader;
    CREATE VIEW data_history.sales_order_head AS
    SELECT * FROM data_current.sales_order_head
    UNION ALL
    SELECT * FROM data_history.sales_order_head_h;
    GRANT SELECT ON data_history.sales_order_head
    TO historical_data_reader;
    GRANT INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE ON data_current.sales_order_head
    TO historical_data_loader;
    GRANT historical_data_reader TO middle_layer;
    GRANT historical_data_loader TO middle_layer;
    connect to middle_layer;
    sql> select * from sales_order_head;
    not working
    sql> insert into sales_order_head;
    not working too.
    hope you can help.

  • Creating two users for one desktop Address Book

    I apologize for posting this more than once but I haven't received a response and I think perhaps the first post was not in the right place.
    Why is it not easier to create two Groups under the common AB rather than creating two users and exporting/importing files? I read an earlier question from someone who needed two ABs for two users but didn't want to do two Groups yet it seems so easy to do.
    I created a Group called 'Dedo'; highlighted, dragged and dropped, the entire All listing in AB. I then edited out the names I don't need by Remove From Group (under AB, Edit). The Group-edited names still remain in the ALL listing on the desktop AB. I then synced only the selected groups I wanted to my iPhone, including 'Dedo'. It created a new All Contacts and all the groups I selected.
    I can create a second group called 'Speedo' for the other user, drag & drop All from the desktop AB, and they can edit from 'Speedo' the names they don't want, and sync their groups to their iPhone. Again, the All Contacts are still intact on the desktop AB for reference to info we might want occasionally but don't need on our phones.
    So .............. what's the downside to what otherwise seems like an easy fix? What am I not seeing?
    Thanks for any insight I'm missing.

    No one responded. However, dividing the names of interest to each of us into two groups seems to be working well. We sync the particular group we want to our individual iPhone and don't bear the burden of having many, many names we don't want in our own personal contacts.

  • Letting two users share one synced iCal Calendar

    Hi all,
    I'm looking for a way to share a single iCal calendar between two users, giving both users the ability to make changes to the calendar. Is this possible with Apple's iCal?
    As an example, say I'd like to create a calendar for a trip itnerary. I'm in New York and my host ("Sara") is in San Francisco. I open my iCal, select the "Itinerary" calendar and enter a few events into it. Then, Sara opens her iCal and it automatically loads the "Itinerary" calendar, showing the events I've entered. Knowing San Francisco better than I do, she decides to alter my "Explore Chinatown" entry by extending the hours. The next time I open my iCal, I see the changes Sara made in the "Itinerary" calendar.
    I'm sure this has probably been asked before, but even though I searched for it I couldn't find information answering this question. If you can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance!

      Mac OS X (10.4.3)   iCal Version 2.0.3

    If I understand .Mac's services correctly, it
    features the ability to let users subscribe to a
    calendar, that is read another person's published
    calendar, but NOT to make changes on that calendar
    and then send these changes back to the publisher,
    transparently. Unless I'm mistaken in this regard,
    .Mac does not provide a means to let two users share
    a single iCal calendar which they can BOTH make
    changes to and BOTH keep synced with the other user's
    calendar.
    yes it does!!!!!!!!
    simply log into the single .mac account from any number of computers and use isync. We do this every day between our office & home computers. The calenders in ical are idendical on both. Any alteration can be synced to .mac and the other computer will pick up the change next time it is synced. If there is a conflict, isync will ask which version (either .mac or the computer being synced) to use.
    I think that you are confusing publishing calenders and syncing them
    However, even if that can be done with .Mac (and if
    it can, I'd love to learn how), I require a solution
    that doesn't utilitze .Mac because in my particular
    situation, the other user with whom I want to share
    calendars does not have a .Mac subscription and will
    not be able to get one.
    The other user does not need a .mac account. The whole point is that they are syncing to the one (ie your) account.
    Therefore, I need a solution
    that does not rely on .Mac.
    Wrong. It would seem that .mac would work.
    The only problem is that all the calenders in ical will sync.
