Two versions of Developer, same machine

I need to use a single machine to access two different applications, one using Developer 2000 v4x and one using Developer v6. What is Oracle's support stance for a machine that has two different versions of Developer loaded on it? Can it work efficiently and/or effectively? How? Thanks for any help.

Paul,
You can install different versions of Developer on a same machine. Some of the Developer versions supports multiple ORACLE_HOME installations also.
eg: Forms/Reports 6i can be installed in a separate ORACLE_HOME.
The Release notes lists all the Developer versions which are supported on same ORACLE_HOME.
Following are the versions of Developer which can be installed on the same ORACLE_HOME as Developer 6.0,
1. Developer 1.6.1
2. Developer 2.1

Hi Rai,
Sorry about my previous message. Anyways As I was saying I'm trying to Install Developer 2.1 and Developer 6.0 in the Same machine. By default both installations are install in the same Oracle Home Directory C:\ORANT and the same registry Key ORACLE. For Develop 2.1 I have to make some changes to the Registry under the ORACLE key. How can I make this two version coexist in the same machine? What version I have to install first to have a succesfull installation?
Is there any instrucion I can reference to in the Web?
your reply will be greatly appreciated..

How can I share my music and photos between two users on the same machine?

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!

When I OCR two versions of the same document and then compare the documents in Acrobat Pro XI, I usually get the message that there are no changes to mark.  However, I know there a quite a few number of changes.  I raised this question more than a year ago, and the response I received had to do with the quality of the OCR and the scans of the documents.  However, if I use Acrobat Pro XI to save the same documents in Word and then run a comparison in Word all of the changes are marked.  When a PDF is saved as a Word document in Acrobat Pro XI, is a different OCR module being used than the one used in Acrobat Pro XI for text recognition?

OCR is only for recoginition of the image / picture of text provided by an scanner.
Content typed into a Word file which is converted to a PDF is (in Word and in PDF) *not* an image  or picture of text - it is the digital text. So, no OCR involved.
When the "digital" (renderable) text of a PDF's page content is exported to Word no OCR is involved.
When a PDF's content is from the image output of a scanner and this is a picture of text then OCR comes into play.
If this content is exported to Word before doing OCR then it is the image that is exported to the Word file.
Once OCR is performed it is the OCR output that is exported.
OCR output is (always will be) impacted by "the quality of the OCR and the scans of the documents".
Regardless "Compare" is based on a Word file output to PDF1 then edits to the Word file followed by an output to PDF2. You use Acrobat Pro to do a compare of PDF1 & PDF2.
Paper 1 scanned to image 1 to image 1 in PDF1 that gets OCR 1 and
Paper 2 scanned to image 2 to image 2 in PDF2 that gets OCR 2
being processed with Acrobat Pro's Compare can certainly be done.
But - well you've described what can be observed.
    Be well...

  • I downloaded two versions of the same album by mistake can I get a refund on one?

I downloaded two versions of the same album, one staight after the other, I've been charged for both, can I get one removed and a refund?

    Carol,
William Lloyd said it all, but perhaps Kirby Krieger's User Tip will explain a bit more the different uses of albums and projects:
                       The Well-Trod Path: a Beginner's Guide to how Aperture's major parts inter-relate
Then I imported into Aperature, created new versions, one for each snapshot, then cropped each snapshot, so each snapshot is seperate in Aperature.
You want to find each snapshot separately in Aperture? Perhaps you could explain more, how you want to organize your photos. William pointed out albums to group versions of an image. You could also assign keywords to mark special occasions like birthdays, weddings, etc.  You could assign faces to find photos of persons by name. You can use the search field in the browser to search for photos by face, date, keyword, etc.  Aperture is really great for accessing images in many different ways. There must be a way to access the images in your Aperture library just like you want to.
Then, I tried to organize the ton of photos into projects and it won't let multiple versions of the same original photo be in separate projects.
That is, how Aperture works. All versions of an image need to be in the same project, because they are sharing the same imported original image file. Aperture tries to save your disk space, by by not creating image files for the edited versions. Versions are just a set of instructions how to produce the rendered image, when you want to edit it or to export it. Unless you are working with the version, it will live in limbo and it will not exist as an image file. So all versions are kept together in the same project with the original image file that is necessary to render them as an image.

  • Can I have an old version and the latest version on the same machine

lumosity does not work with the latest version of firefox (it loses key presses for the arrow keys). So can I keep an older version of firefox on my computer to be used only with lumosity and the latest version on my computer for all other browsing activities. Lumosity says this happens on firefox versions 25 and above. If I can keep two versions resident on my computer, what version prior to 25 would you recommend for windows 8?

It's tricky to run two different versions of Firefox at the same time.
If you don't need to use other websites while you're on Lumosity, then you could use the "Portable" version of Firefox 24 for Lumosity when you want to use that site. (See: [http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Edition%2024.0/ Portable 24.0]) Since that does not have the security fixes from Firefox 25, 26, 27, and 28 you really should not use it for other sites.
On the other hand, maybe it's easier to use a different browser for Lumosity (such as IE or Chrome) until they resolve this issue?

  • Itunes two versions of the same album?

    Hello,
I have two versions, high res audio and CD quality, of the same album of an artist located in two folders "Album Title" and "Album Title HD".
By adding the two folders to the iTunes mediathek, all tracks are merged under "Album Title" in iTunes. Do I have to manipulate the meta data to avoid this behavior in iTunes? Interestingly the views on the Mac and via iOS Remote App are different:
    Mac:
    Track 1
    Track 1 HD
    Track 2
    Track 2 HD
    etc.
    Rmote App:
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track Last
    Track 1 HD
    Track 2 HD
I disabled the automatic handling option for iTunes import. So still two folders in the iTunes music folder exist.
    Any ideas?
    Andreas

If you want them to appear as separate albums you will have to change the metadata for one of the albums.  There are many ways to do this and which one you use will depends upon your preferences.
You can make it obvious by doing something such as adding a descriptor to the album name e.g., Album Name [CD quality]
You can "hide".  If you do not normally use the album artist field and you add an album artist to that field for one of the versions it will cause that to sort separately.  Similarly if you add a number to the disc number field that should normally get it to display separately.
Alternatively you can come up with a smart playlist to sort according to kind.

  • Can I have two versions of the same original live in separate projects?

I am not an Aperature or photography expert.
I scanned in a ton of old family photos with multiple snaphots on a page and in a single file. Then I imported into Aperature, created new versions, one for each snapshot, then cropped each snapshot, so each snapshot is seperate in Aperature. (I could have learned Spanish with all the time that this took.)
Then, I tried to organize the ton of photos into projects and it won't let multiple versions of the same original photo be in separate projects. I found a way to change the filenames through Batch Change, but that didn't fix the problem.
I would like to organize the ton of files, but from what I can tell my only option would be to go back to the scanned files, make copies from Finder as needed, once for each snapshot, reimport into Aperature and recrop each individual snapshot.
Oh my, I have kids and a job and a husband and I like to sleep at night. Is there any easier way to organize the photos?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Two presentation Servers on Same Machine

I'm deploying my OBIEE in Oracle App Server on LINUX. I'd like to add a second presentation server pointing to a common RPD/BI Server. I see the following options:
    •     Using the same container I would just deploy the analytics folder a second time with a new name
    •     Create a second container and install presentation server (disabling or skipping the BI server)
    •     Install a new instance of OAS on the machine and install presentation server (disabling or skipping the BI server)
Got any recommendations or best practices for me?

For any interested - this is what I got from someone else who has done this - I will be trying this in the near future. I'll remind myself to update you on it.
Choose options one - redeploy again into the same container, using a unique web.mxl file for each specifying different set of ports, use two different instanceconfig.xml files and modify the run-saw.sh to start/stop both instances.

  • Two JREs in the same machine

    Hi.,
I had problems with two different version of JRE.I have an applet that works well in JRE1.4. Now I had a different applet that will be working only on 1.2.x.Is it possible to switch the JREs depending on the context through the html(where the applets are embedded).I know through control panel we can change the JRE setting manually.

No - you have to adjust PATH and CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME, etc environment variables to point to the desired version locations and libraries. If you have any other hard-coded locations/files/directories in your code that is version-specific, they'll also need changing.
This is most easily done by building a script (.bat file, etc) that would be run prior to the applet startup to adjust the machine environment and parameters.

  • Can two database work on same machine

Can Oracle 9 instance and Oracle 10g instance be used on the same windows system symultaneously

    To the OP:
    <br>
10 can listen for previous version.<br>
    <br>
    <br>
But, using a single listener will ensure that the previous version instances cannot be remotely accessed when patches are being applied to the current version. If your environment can accept using a single listener, then do as suggested. In our situation, we need to have multiple listeners at multiple versions. We have many projects which run simultaneously in development. Patching of one home cannot be permitted to affect the other projects. These are the special circumstances refered to by Paul M.
    <br>
    <br>
So, to reiterate, if you can use a single listener, then use the latest and greatest.

  • Possible to have two different QT on same machine?

    Hello there
I need iTunes 6 for my iPod and QT pro 6 for my work. On the same computer.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help!

      Windows XP Pro

ok. Know what? It worked! Both quicktime running, and I can access my iTunes library again. I should have done that one year ago!! BUT!
I uninstalled everything, and installed a 6.5.2 QT standalone on my external HD, registered and changed the name.
What happened is that the new QT player I installed with iTunes installed itself directly on my HD without asking after recognising the old version. Which is a bit stupid, in my case (my HD is not on all the time). Should I uninstall everything, and reinstall on C:?
Basically if I backup my C: disk with ghost or whatever and if I have to use a recovery, both programs will not be included, am I right?
One step closer to the final answer...
