Two versions of quicktime on one system

Hi, I recently purchased a game that required me to uninstall my latest version of quicktime and revert to quicktime 6.3 in order to work correctly, problem is, now my itunes program won't work at all. I'm pretty sure this is due to me removing my newer version of quicktime as I was just using it last night, and I installed the game today. Is it possible to have two seperate versions of quicktime running on my computer, say, 6.3 for specifically my game, and the newest version for everything else?

To have two separate versions of QT on the same windows computer you would have to have two operating systems on the computer. So your hard drive would need to be partitioned or you would need two hard drives to run two operating systems.
QT only installs to C:\ so you would need two C:\ drives.

Is it possible to have two versions of Muse on one Machine?  WhenI open Muse from my program menu in WIndows 7 it comes up the way I am used to.  I did an upgrade a week or so ago and now I have an Adobe Muse CC 2014 on my desktop.  WhenI open the application that way the GUI interface looksw totally different, more like Illustrator.  What is that all about?

Since posting the above, I have resolved a sensible work-around in regard to ebookstores which prefer us to have separate accounts for our separate Adobe IDs.
However, I really would appreciate it if anyone here can confirm that a DRM controlled book does actually become associated with a particular Adobe ID account at the time of first download to Digital Editions on that PC/device.
Two large book stores have said using my account with them to download books to our two separate Adobe IDs is OK, but I don't want to find my husband is unable to open his downloaded books.
Thank you folks for any advice you can give,

  • Two versions of OSX on one drive

    Hello
I have a question about installling two versions of OSX on a single hard drive.
I have a Dual 2Ghz PowerMac G5 running Leopard 10.5.8 as that is the last version that supports my Mac.
There is no way that I can afford to upgrade and I think I need a new hard drive pretty soon. So I was thinking about buying a new drive, partitioning it into two halves and putting the Leopard 10.5.8 on the first half and Tiger on the other. The reason I want to do this is so I can use some older software that stopped working under Leopard.
As long as I parttion the drive, is this okay to do? Will it work fine and not give me any performance issues?
Also, while I'm on this, is there any particular hard drive that works the best with PowerMac G5s? Since I can't afford a new Mac I want to do everything I can to get the best preformance. I've already got the maximum RAM fitted.
    Thanks for any advice ;-)
    Dave

    Thanks for that guys :-)
Ralph, I was thinking specifically about an internal drive to put the OSs on. I think I currently have a Western Digital Caviar in there and a second one which I think is Seagate Barracuda.
With my Mac being so old I was wondering if there is one that works best with it or does it not make much difference? I have heard that with certain new drives, it may need jumpers on some of the pins to work with my Mac.
    Kind Regards
    Dave

  • Two versions of Robo on one machine

I have RoboInfo 5 and RoboHelp 7 installed on my computer.
RoboInfo publishes to RoboEngine on Win 2000 server. RoboHelp 7
publishes to RoboHelp 7 Server on Windows 2003 server.
I recently upgraded to a newer computer. We re-installed
RoboHelp and then later installed RoboInfo again. Since doing this,
I'm not able to publish our RoboHelp projects. The server crashed,
and so far we haven't been able to get it going again.
Don't know if it had anything to do with re-installing the
software, but I think I remember reading somewhere in the forums
about conflicts that can arise between two versions of Robo on the
same machine. Is this a possibility, and is it recommended that
they be installed on different machines?
It is interesting that now in my RoboHelp projects folder,
the .xpj project icons show the RoboInfo icon, not the RH7 icon
    (and RoboInfo was installed last).

There can be conflicts between different versions but you had
both working OK before. I think the problem here is the order in
    which you installed them.
As with most software that permits multiple versions to run,
the installation procedure is earliest first.

  • Can I run two versions of the Mac operating system on one computer?

Can I designate one hard drive to run OS 10.6.8 and another to run Mountain LIon and switch between the two?
I use software that would not run on Mountain Lion and would break the bank to both upgrade and  buy a new Mac.

The EFI/firmware generally prevents you from running older OSX than what was shipped with the system.
My system can do what you propose because it came with SL, and can also run ML.
A new system that was designed to run Lion or ML will need to play very special and marginal tricks to run SL.
Some systems un der the Apple refurbished list are olde enough to run SL but new enough to run ML, and come with 1-year Apple warranties.

  • Is there a way to have two versions of Quicktime Installed?

I have a educational game that requires Quicktime 4 or 5 to be installed in order to work. Is there any possible way to have Quicktime Version 5 and Quicktime Version 7 installed at the same time? When I try to install Version 7, It uninstalls version 5.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry but no, it's not, not unless you set up a dual-boot on your system so you can boot two different copies of Windows.

  • Two versions of JInitiator on one computer?

Is it possible to run two different versions of JInitiator on the same pc? In testing, it appears that the most recently installed version take precedence over any other installed version.

You can use both versions but should use a different profile for each one (location where Firefox stores user data such as bookmarks).
The beta version should by default be installed in a different location than the release version, but to ensure this is the case you can choose the Custom option when installing Firefox and specify where you want it installed.
Next you need to create a new profile folder for the beta version, for details of how to do that see the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows]. Once you have created a new profile, you can create shortcuts that open the correct profile, for details see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Shortcut_to_a_specific_profile Shortcut to a specific profile].
Finally you can arrange for Firefox to synchronize the bookmarks and passwords used by the 2 versions. You can do this by using Firefox Sync. The Firefox 4 beta will have it built in, but for Firefox 3.6.10 you can install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10868/ Firefox Sync] add-on. For details on using Firefox Sync see [[what is Firefox Sync]].

  • Multiple versions of FCP on one system

Hi guys just a quick question. I have FCP 5 installed on my mac. I am about to purchase Final Cut Studio 2, meaning FCP 6 will be installed on my system too.
Does this mean I will have to uninstall FCP 5 first or will I basically have two FCP's on my system. My only worry is that installing FCP 6 will overwrite/destroy a project that I'm currently editing on FCP 5?
Any suggestions or help on in?
Also is Final Cut Studio 2 compatible with OSX 10.4.11?
    Thanks!!

When you install FCS 2 the higher version of FCP 6 will replace your installation of FCP 5.
You will not lose project files.
Also is Final Cut Studio 2 compatible with OSX 10.4.11?
Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later.

  • Can I have two versions of Safari on one machine?

The question first, then the explanation for the question:  Can I have both Safari 5 and Safari 6 on my machine and run them at the same time?
I hate Safari 6 & 7 because they combine the search and URL into one bar, which really annoys me.  It requires an extra step when I type in the direct URL I want, because instead of returning the URL, it goes to a search page, and then I have to click the site I want.  Annoying.   So I have not upgraded from Safari 5 on my iMac, which I use nearly all the time.  I have tried Firefox because it still has the search and URL boxes separate, but I also like the little orange arrow in Safari 5 that quickly takes me back to my original search when I've ended up on rabbit trails in my searching and I want to go back to where I was -- Firefox does not have this.  (I dislike Firefox in general, anyway.)
However, now I'm finding that some websites are beginning to warn me that my browser (Safari 5) is too old and may not work properly.  Now I have found a site for which indeed that is true -- a site I regularly use for my job, and a company which says they will no longer offer support for issues on Safari 5.  One screen is split into two, and I could always scroll the two sides separately, but after an update to the site, now they will not scroll separately.  I have a MacBook Air, which I rarely use, and tested the same page on Safari 6 -- it works on Safari 6.  Thus, the company will refuse to help me and tell me to just update my browser.
I really like Safari, EXCEPT for the new versions' combined search/URL bar, so I want to keep using Safari 5.  Thus, I want to know if I can have both Safari 5 and 6 on my machine at all, and if so, then I want to know if I can have them both open at the time, for example, if I give them different names (Safari 5 and Safari 6, rather than just Safari).
This is for my iMac, which is running Lion 10.7.5

    >>I could not see this reply in Safari 5, neither by refreshing the page nor by clicking "Latest reply," which did nothing.
That's a very common issue with the software that runs these discussions, and usually nothing to do with the browser. Pasting a single character reply, often reveals the missing item(s); as does viewing the thread without signing in first.

  • Can i install two versions of Firefox on one PC?

    Hello,
I have Firefox 27.0.1 Installed on my system. I want to try Firefox 29.0 to see if i like it but i don't want to uninstall 27.0.1. Is there some way i can use both versions?
    Thanks.

Try using the Portable version. It doesn't affect your main installation. It also won't have your bookmarks, but you could import them if you want to use them there.
[http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Edition%2029.0/ Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition 29.0 at SourceForge.net]
For suggestions on restoring some features of the earlier user interface, see: [[How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox]].
Of course, for security reasons, you should updated as soon as you can.

  • Can I use two versions of firefox on one computer?

3.6.10 and 4beta in parallel? Would both versions use the same bookmark file or how can they stay in-sync? I love 4beta but still would need to use 3.6.10 for some add-ons. Thanks a lot!!

  • Laptop with two versions of Safari- want to "Trash" one or the the other...

I have two versions of Safari. One in the APP folder (as usual) and the other on the Desktop.
Want to trash one of my Safari Apps but I'm not sure if both will disappear.
(I'm asked for the Admin. PW when attempting to trash one or the other.)
Ideas? Suggestions for safe removal of the one appearing on the Desktop?
Likewise I have two folders named "iPhoto Library" - one is on the Desktop, again, it's the same "Trash" issue.
    Thanks for your input.
    F.P.

You can and should delete the Safari copy on your Desktop. As for the iPhoto library, if you're sure that the one on the Desktop is a copy, you can delete it, too. Of course, you're backing up all your data, so if you make a mistake, you can recover from it easily.

  • Deleted QuickTime 10 so I could get QT7 Pro, but now I can't reinstall ANY version of QuickTime.

I purchased & tried installing QuickTime 7 Pro on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. I already had QuickTime version 10. The instructions said I needed to download QT7, but it wouldn't install. So I tried deleting QT10 by moving it to the trash & emptying it. WIth that gone, I downloaded & installed QT&, but it wouldn't show up in the Applications folder, even after it said it was successfully installed. I even tried installing it from the DVD that came with my computer. Once I did get it to show up, the icon was different; it was like a notepad & a paint brush or something, but it wouldn't do anything. When I double-clicked on it, it would appear, then instantly disappear. Next, I tried copying a working version from another computer to my MacBook. Now, the QT7 icon is right, but it still won't open. What do I do now? I don't even care about QT Pro now; I can't even WATCH videos on my laptop. The QT7 icon is in my Applications folder & I was able to drag the icon to my dock, but it immediately closes/disappears when I try to open it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get QuickTime working again on my computer? Thanks in advance!

You've messed things up by deleting QuickTime X and trying to install the wrong version of QuickTime Player on your Snow Leopard machine.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
QuickTime Player 7.6.6 installs in the Utilities folder and QuickTime X is installed in the HD/Applications folder.
You can run two versions of QuickTime in Snow Leopard and Lion.
Delete the wrong one from the Applications folder and open QuickTime Player 7 from the Utilities (after the download and install) to enter your registration.

  • Can I have two versions of firefox at the same time?

    Hi,
Probably a dumb question but can I have two versions of Firefox on my system at the same time?
The reason is because of Add Ons that are not compatible with v4. I'd like to be able to close v4 when I need to use an Add On in v3.
    Thanks.

You can install them both but there are a few steps to take.
When you install Firefox 4 use the custom installation option and choose a different location to install Firefox.
In order to use both versions, you need to create a new profile for Firefox 4 (Firefox stores user data in the profile). Using the same profile with different versions can cause problems. Once you create a new profile you can copy certain data such as bookmarks and passwords between them. You can also use Firefox Sync to keep the profiles synchronized. Finally, you will need to set up shortcuts to launch the correct profile for each version.
The following links show how to do this:

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Shortcut_to_a_specific_profile
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/firefox-sync (only needed for Firefox 3.6, it is built into Firefox 4)

  • Two versions of iTunes

Is there any way to have two versions/libraries of iTunes: one with MP3s for my iPod, and one with lossless files to be streamed to the home stereo?

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the option key when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one.
