Two Vision Boxes

Has anyone had any success running 2 Vision boxes in two different rooms, on two different TVs using one broadband connection?
thanks

I've just tried to do the same using one black and one silver box and connecting the two to the same hub. The Freeview works without a hitch and the on-demand service also works (although you can only watch one programme at a time). The recording is a shambles though! It seems to confuse the system that there are two recorders on the one line - recorded programmes from one box somehow end up on the other box! Other recorded programmes disappear all together (only to re-appear after doing a 'hard reset'). I also had problems with the box telling me that it was recording two channels even though only one channel was actually recording - presumably it was recording on the other box...
All together very confusing! I've now given up on it an disconnected the 2nd box. A shame really!
Thanks for the warning as this is something I'd considered doing myself. I think though that someone said that your recordings are "stored" in a library somewhere and therefore it's not possible to have different recordings on the two boxes.....although I'm sure that one of the more "technically knowledgeable" people on the forum can explain it better!

  • BT Vision Box Not Receiving ITV or CH4?

Hello. I've joined this forum for the purposes of attempting to resolve a problem that my parents are having with their BT Vision Box.
They are very happy with the system in general, but recently my mother has been unable to watch/record ITV very often. She has tried re-scanning for channels, but this simply lost several channels from the tv guide altogether.
Now I realise that atmospherics sometimes play havoc with freeview, but the reason I am perplexed is that my Panasonic tv upstairs (with inbuilt digital reciever) has almost no trouble recieving these channels, bar the odd blip or two.
Yesterday was case in point when I could watch Doc Martin in perfect quality, and downstairs could see literally nothing. Progarm unavailiable. Channel 4 was the same, though it was at least a static broken image on the BT Vision Box, and not just a black screen.
We had a digital ariel installed about 6 years ago (at some cost) which both our televisions run off (theirs through the Vision Box, as their tv does not have built-in digital tuner). The cableing is up to date aswell, and we have some kind of booster attachment aswell (though the guy who installed the ariel insisted it wasn't a booster, but we need it plugged in to get a signal).
So in conclusion, why can't the BT Vision Box recieve channels from the same ariel as my television, that has no problem getting them?

I think someone conned you somewhere along the line.
It sounds very much like a booster to me.
Also the wind ought to have no effect on your aeriel. (note not ariel that's for your washing machine )
It really does sound like an aerial issue to be honest and maybe it would be worth getting someone to look at it.
If you take the downlead out of this box can you plug the aerial in to the TV?
Hang on - is your TV fed from this box?

  • BT Vision box signal strength indicator

Just received the latest black BT Vision box replacing an older version. Old version worked really well, good picture. New one using same leads and aerial point pixellates at times horribly. The signal quality indicator usually indicates 100% and is green in colour. The signal strength indicator varies: sometimes is shows over 70dBuV and is red, other times it is around 64dBuV and is orange and occasionally it is around 56dBuV an is green. What should it be? It pixellates even when the indicator is green. I had a big new roof aerial fitted a few years ago  and there is a booster/distributor box in the roof - currently running just two tv's off it, although rarely at the same time.
Why does the new box not work when the old one did? What do I need to do to cure this? Is the signal too strong or too weak?! Any ideas out there?
    Thanks, Graham

Thanks for the feedback. I have tried splitting the aerial with a passive splitter - perhaps marginally better but difficult to say. Even tried splitting again to the point where the signal was showing weak. The strength indicator seems to have a colour coding, starting off red with a weak signal, going orange, then green, then as the signal is stronger it goes orange again and back to red when too strong. I have hit the green optimum region and gone either side of it. Pixellation is always there. Reading all the posts on here about this, I am coming to the conclusion that I am not going to be able to fix this.
I may ask BT to reinstate the old box, it worked perfectly - I only asked for a replacement so that I can have BT Sports and the option of Sky sports. I will just have to stream BT sport to my laptop if I want it. I am a little disappointed about this though.

  • New BT Vision+ box always has red power light

My father has just re-subscribed to BT Vision and received a new Black Vision box. Setup went through OK. Update received and installed fine at first boot. However, the Power light has never changed from being red, not the record light, but the power light.
The Box is working fine, you can watch, record pause, rewind, on demand everything. But the power light refuses to change colour, as I understand it should show either Blue, Purple or Red. Well we've never seen either of the first two. Any ideas? We tried turning it off completely overnight - no change.

  • New BT Vision Box to receive Freview HD?

I had been a BT Vision customer for around three years. I then moved to Sky for two years, but am now thinking of coming back to BT Vision, especially with the prospect of BT Infinity.
I've looked around the forums and website to see what's changed/improved with the service and I must say I'm impressed. However, as has been documented many times on this and other forums, the Black Vision+ box is unable to receive freeview HD. I'm aware that BT are linked with Youview and a new freeview HD receiving box is in the pipeline alongside that with an ETA of sometime early next year.
Interestingly, I just had a online chat with a BT customer service person called Roxy and inquired into this. My question to her was whether it was worth me signing up now to BT Vision or waiting a few weeks for the new freeview HD receiving box to be available. The answer I got was "You may as well wait", and she implied that the new box shall be available in a few weeks.
    Thought you might be interested.
I shall be waiting a few weeks.

  • Lost HD & Sport channels on black BT Vision box

Hi, I was advised to do a factory re-set on my black BT Vision box because it was performing so poorly but since doing so I can no longer get my HD or sport channels (BT Sport 1 & 2, Sky Sports 1,2 & 5) back.
Prior to doing the reset I only had the HD & sport channels as I had such a poor aerial in the roof. Doing the factory re-set meant I had to have a functioning aerial to re-scan for all the channels so I fixed the aerial & whilst it means I can now get all the freeview channels I can't now get any of the HD or sport channels back that I pay for!
BT initially thought it was an issue at the exhange but having gone through several re-sets, re-scans, re-registers & re-boots they've finally agreed to get an engineer out.
    In another two weeks time!
Anyone got any suggestions as to what might be causing this & therefore how I might be able to fix without waiting for the engineer visit?
    thanks

Either the entitlements are missing or you are on the wrong version of the software. This can sometimes happen initially after a reset.
What does it say for Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > BT TV Release ?
If it ends in C (such as 8.7.1C) then you are on the version for using a viewing card.
If it ends in E (such as 8.7.1E) then you are on the version for multicast channels over broadband which is what you need.
If on the C version then try the following.
Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > Reset Registration
Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > Check for Upgrade
In my experience that usually encourages it to download and install the correct E version again.

  • Silver/Black BT vision box

We've had our silver vision box for over 2 years now.  I was just wondering, what's the difference?  I noticed the buttons of the box infront is different to the black one though the remote is still the same just in different colour (I think).  Difference with the performance?  Quality?
    Thanks!

As mentioned on two other threads this morning already.....I had an engineer visit this morning. You'll be pleased to know that this is the last time I'll mention it.
Anyway....I said to him that it will be good when BT finally get the HD Freeview box released.
And he said.....that the old silver box couldn't get HD but, come April, when our transmitter goes digital then I will be able to get HD Freeview on my new black box. Ok, so this goes against my understanding from other threads. But he is an engineer, and he did come in a BT van. So I kind of would expect him to know.....
Please don't shoot the messenger though. I'm only repeating what he said.......
Was that a BT Telecoms engineer or a BT Vision engineer.
If the hardware decoder & firmware is not present in the Black box then it cannot decode HD Freeview.

  • New black Vision+ box upgrade. Is it a con ?

I am a BT option3 customer and have been for some time. I currently pay £5.49 for my BT vision service.
I enquired to find out why I would be expected to pay £199 in order to get the new box. New customers to BT dont have to pay this.
I was told in the reply that the two boxes have exactly the same functions ! If I wanted a new one I could simply take out a new 12 month contract !
The new contract are a minimum of £7.99 per month for three months before increasing to £14.99 per month.
I have no interest whatsoever in any of the so called vision packs as I have more than an enough to watch already.
This increase represents 100% jus for a different colour box !  BT seem intent on conning us or ripping us off !
Has anyone else triedto replace their old vision box with the new one?  I have tried phoning BT but just got send round in circles va several different Indian call cetres, none of whom could answer my query !

It's absolutely not a con because it isn't an upgrade.  It's just cosmetically different and slightly more efficient on power consumption.  Apart from that no difference so not an upgrade therefore if you really really want one you'll have to pay for it.

  • New Look Black BT Vision Box - Failure to record a...

I had my original Silver BT Vision box replaced due to catastrophic failure. I was given the new black BT Vision box as a replacement. Not only does it fail to record programmes as outlined in the posting by StuartH, but it has a habit of re-booting itself.
When setting up recordings on my original box; of there was a recording conflict, I was able to immediatly resolve the problems by being able to see immediatly which programmes I could choose to record. This is not the case with the new box. When trying to set up recordings for the following week on the new box and a conflict occurs where there are more than two programmes selected I get a red banner across the bottom of the screen telling me that "you can only record two programmes at the same time (VRC001)", without being able to easily find out via the box search system which programmes are in conflict.
I cannot find any reference to this error code anywhere or fault message anywhere on the internet.
Has anyone else had this problem?

  • Swapping my Vision Box for You View Box

i have taken up the free offer of swapping my Vision Box for a you view box. Can anyone let me know what make of box I will get - Is it the Humax?
Any other tips people could offer me, hope I have made the right decision.

All the BT YouView boxes are Humax boxes. There are two variants, the old DTR-T1000 (H3) box and the newer DTR-T2100 (G4) box.
My guess is that if you have paid nothing you will get the older T1000 box. These aren't anywhere near as responsive as the newer boxes.

  • Vision box opens a port - Is this safe?

Following on from this thread my hub3 had a firmware update in the early hours, it's now 4.7.5.1.83.8.94.1.11 (Type A).
Anyway, when the hub3's came out shields up reported that port 161 was open and flagged this as a bad.
After the hub firmware update port 161 is now closed, but shields up now reports the port 1024 is open.
(I don't recall port 1024 being open prior to the hub's firmware update - could someone test and let me know)
The hub's event log and some testing proves it is the BTVision box, so is this safe?

Interestingly nmap reports port 1024 on what I assume is my old black BTVision box, (as opposed to what I think must be the two ports inside), as being the KDE display manager...
    widget@desktop:~$ nmap -PN -p 1024 192.168.1.66
    Starting Nmap 5.21 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2012-12-12 10:28 GMT

    Host is up.
    PORT     STATE    SERVICE
    1024/tcp filtered kdm
Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 2.46 seconds
The two ports inside have port 80 open.
Having said that I've been leaving uPNP on because I play various online games, etc. and can't be bothered to sort out port forwarding for each of them. Most security concerns revolve around insecured applications and if you've got those you're in a whole WORLD of trouble anyway. In any case, opinions are divided...

    http://www.howtogeek.com/122487/htg-explains-is-upnp-a-security-risk/
I haven't run windoze for a decade and a half, I don't install stuff if I don't know where it's come from, (and can preferably study the source code and recompile if I want to), so I doubt I'm in too much danger.
I did think about installing a NAT router construcyed from an old PC between the BT Vision box and the homehub just to see what is what sending and where using iptraf logging but haven't got around to it. I did have a little wireless NAT router inserted betwen them which had a log feature but never got around to studying them as the log facility on it wasn't very sophistacted, it lacked 'granularity', (love that word).
I've always told people they shouldn't rely on their routers for security so maybe I've just been listening to my own advice too long.

  • Help setting up BT vision+ box alongside Sky digib...

    Can anyone help?
I got a BT vision+ box free with my renewed broadband subscription. I already have sky, cant access freeview ( live in a terrible reception area) and I don't have a rooftop aerial. I understand that I can't use the BT vision+ box to get freeview, I only want to use it  to access iplayer and 4OD etc on my TV. Is there anyway to hook the sky digibox and the BTvision+ box up to my TV?
The TV is HD/digital ready with two scart and two HDMI connections at the rear. One scart connection goes to the sky box and one to the DVD-R which I currently use to record from sky (it records on AV2). Neither HDMI slot is in use.
The manual which came with the BT vision+ box says I can use the HDMI slot and connect it to the vision+ box - but as I dont have an aerial to connect the BT vision+ box to, I wonder if it would work? As far as I know, the iplayer comes through the BT home hub, so do I need the aerial connection if I wont be trying to access freeview? I don't want to start messing around with the current configuration in case it all stops working, or I banjax the BT vision+ box.
If anyone can advise the right connection configuration, I'd be very grateful!

  • New Black BT Vision box - what is missing, a discu...

Maybe it's just me but here is a list of things which are currently missing or wrong with the new BT Vision box (black edition with new interface and OS). Thought it might be useful to keep a list of these going which people can add to.
would also appreciate it if anyone can help with any of these issues in case i've missed something
Red button doesn't work - believe this is  'coming soon'. you can still access the channels by going to 301 or 302
Teletext doesn't work - the button pops up a message saying it's not available, coming soon?
There is no way to set recordings to over run? - this used to be very handy on old box, particularly with live shows. is this being brought back?
No signal strength tester - you used to be able to check digital signal reception strength and quality from the settings menu, not any more
Pressing 'play' when viewing a recording doesn't flash up the progress bar - any other good way to do this, used to be handy. Fix: pressing "select" does the trick
no HD Freeview - the box isn't capable, wondering whether they might upgrade us to YouView later on for this?
No options to set resolution - used to be able to define 720p or 1080i for instance, not any more
Sky Sports small white box - a small logo in the bottom right area, not sure what this is or why it's now there?
    Subtitles on iPlayer missing
Some reported picture quality issues - both on SCART and HDMI
    On the plus side:
Bigger capacity on the hard disc
Faster inteface and movement between sections
Nice new design and sharp interface resolution
Channel logos / graphics now in the information bar menu
When in the TV Guide there's still a small box showing you what you are watching on the current channel
    Music playlist
    Bookmarks
Reinstatement of the 30s jump and better fast-forward / rewind (30s jump doesn't work on Sky Sports)
Ability to jump to specific point in recordings (you need to start it first, then stop and go back into it to have option)
Ability to reenter a recording at a time offset
Icon to show which recordings have been watched
    HD iPlayer
    Recently viewed in iPlayer
Ability to resume a programme on iPlayer
    Ability to resume on demand
    Disk usage on Recordings page
Auto switching format for HDMI and SCARTOne-press toggling of Subtitles and Audio
    Previous channel facility
'Play all' feature for On Demand series
anything else people want to add?

  • Bt Vision Box C03

    Hi,
I was given a Bt Vision box a black one 500Gb by a friend but i cant seem to get it to work i keep getting C03 Error which i believe is to do with a subscription which i dont have, I do have bt broadband. I borrowed a bt vision box from a family member who doesn't have a subscription either not to long ago and that worked fine at my house without a subscription.
    But this new one doesn't.
After searching the internet i found out that i need a update the (box i was given had a factory reset) ?
    Thanks

They actually switched off the Microsoft CE software which was the original software from the start up of the Vision service which was on the Silver box. BT then introduced the Black Vision Box initially with the same Windows software. BT then changed to the Linux software and BT then updated the Black boxes to run the new software and replaced those in a contract with a Silver box with the Black box which left those with Silver boxes on PAYG contracts.
So, some older Black boxes that haven't been upgraded could still have the old Windows software, which is what the OP has.
