Two vs: Four Memory lane useage.

With a 32bit system we know that up to 4gb is max and the system will only recognise 3+. Is it better to install 2x2gb sticks using only two lanes or is it more effecient to use ALL four lanes with 1gb in each, using the processors two memory processing banks?
Additionaly, does 2gb outperform 4gb in a 32bit system because of not dealing with the unuseable memory out of 4gb?
Curious of your answer, I am currently using only 2x1gb and running great.
Thanks

Using a Forum is new to me and the answers make Forums worthwhile!
As I stated I have only 2gb and am running fine. One of my Friends says all four slots out performs two slots with the same amount of memory, so I did research and came up with your answers, it's better to have 2gb utilizing all vs: 4gb on a 32bit OP system and have almost 1gb as unseen (unused)memory. Theory that the unused memory is a cog in the wheel that the system is constantly trying to ulilize and can't. Your responces leave me with 2gb as the way to stay until upgrading to 64bit system, which is a good suggestion.
So since I just setup a 790FX-GD70 I am going to order 1600 (pc12800) better OC Capable memory until the decission of 64bit in Windows 7 or Vista.
Some spec. reports state up to 4gb (using 3+) on 32bit and others experss no more than 2gb for better performance. I wonder why memory mfgrs don't make 1.5gb sticks for 32bit systems? Seems that would be the best answer to utilizing ram better even though 2gb should handle everything. After all that, do many of common programs make use of "Both" processor memory banks?
Thanks for responding.

I just ordered what I thought was 2 GB from Ramjet to put in my macbook and what I got was four 512 Memory pieces. Before I open up this computer and install, can I add four pieces after removing the two in there. Or do I need to return this memory and ask for two pieces of 1 GB each

I should have an answer for you in about a week when I have my 2 kits of Mushkin 2048 MB, XP2-6400, 4-4-3-10 Dual Pack (2x 1024 MB) 996523. The Mushkin support team guy told me that I would be able to reach 850Mhz or higher with that memory because they have Micron D9 chips, so I hope he's right about that
I know there not G. Skill, but the ProMos chips on those modules aren't bad overclockers either.
I know that my 4 x 1GB GEIL PC2-6400UDC modules are crappy overclockers because they have lousy memory chips...

  • Orange memory lanes not working.

Hi, I had a BSOD and PC wouldn't boot unless I removed both memory sticks from orange memory lanes. I have tested all four sticks in green lanes and they run fine. Therefore my memory is only running in single mode and not dual channel, any ideas guys?

If you test the RAMs only in the orange slots, the system will persist to have the problem, I would think that the slots are faulty.
Alternate workarounds to test if the slots are really the problem, you can try the following tests.
    - Test with 1 stick of RAM in orange slot
    - Clear CMOS
    - Test with other brand of RAM

Actually I have installed one 8gb module on top of my existing TWO 2 gb factory in built modules. System is working fine though everywhere in the internet it is written that iMac mid 2011 ONLY supports maximum of 4 GB module per slot!!! Then how my system is working? Can I install one more 8gb Module?

This is a follow up post after 6 months of use on the Kanex iAdapt 51.
This product is a piece of junk. It no longer stays connected to my computer. It loses the signal and stops working after a few minutes no matter if I am booting the computer or waking it from sleep.
I'm pretty computer savvy and after screwing around with all of the settings on the TV and computer, nothing worked. I have determined that it is fact the Kanex connection. I'm pretty sure the product has degraded to the point of not working at all now.
I would suggest not buying this product.
After attempting to working with Kanex, I found out that none of their contact forms or emails work so you can forget any support help too.
I am going to order the NewerTech version that offers the exact same connection:

I'll post back to this thread once I figure out how it works.

  • Xfa.layout.relayout(); not working properly on two of four fields

I have a contract that can be signed by four different departments with multiple people able to sign. I have used a text field where the signer can enter their name and have that name appear under the signature line, with their title.  I have used xfa.layout.relayout();  in the script, named the text field and it's appropriate output floating field the same, used global data binding and yet when I open the form in Acrobat, two of the fields work perfectly and the other two are giving me an error that they are expecting an integer and are showing a "1" in the text field and in the floating field below.
    How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I was thinking about your problem and I think there is a simpler way.
At the moment you have two objects to achieve the effect, and a small script. You can achieve a similar effect by specifying a null pattern for a single textfield. You can add to the display pattern to cover when the user types in some data. eg null{}|text{}.
The advantages include one field, user sees one place for action and is not trying to fill in the floating field, and no script.
Here is an example (WIP): http://assure.ly/pZ5sOz.
    Good luck,

  • How do you share a global between two programs over a LAN

I want to share a global variable which 2 programs can use but each program resides on different computers on my LAN. I have tried by placing the global in each program in the normal way but if I open the global on each computer they do not correspond. It is as if the 2 programs open a different copy of the same global in their respective memories. Are there settings in labview I have to change? Can anyone give me a tip? I want to share data in this way as opposed to my 2 programs accessing a networked  fieldpoint module simultaneously.

Globals are specific per-LV-application. This means if you run two EXEs that you built in LV, even on the same computer, the globals won't be shared.
The easiest option is probably using DS, as suggested by Jack. You right click the control in one PC and select to publish it as a certain address and right click the other control and choose to subscribe to that address and they will be synched.
Another option is using VI server to open a connection to the remote LV app and get the value of the specific control. Search for VI server in the documentation for more information.
Yet another option is implementing your own TCP messaging protocol. You can search the example finder for TCP and this site for TCP message protocol to find some examples.
What I don't understand, however, is why not get the data directly from the FP? There shouldn't be any problem with 2 computers reading the data from the FP.

  • IMac G3 chimes two to four times upon boot and fails to load.

    Hello, all.
Today, I moved my aunt from my old iMac G3 to my less old iMac G4. The iMac G3 was working great still at her house, so I decided to take it home with me to replace the iMac G4. I didn't really plan on using it to any extent, but thought it would be cool to have still working.
So I pop it in the car on the passenger seat, drive the mile back home, and unload it onto my desk. I plug power, ethernet, keyboard/mouse and a USB extension cable in, and attempt to boot. When I hit the power button, the iMac makes an attempt to chime, but it kinda does two loud chimes, a faint third chime, and a fourth loud chime. After that, it just sits there with the power button light on and nothing happens.
Now I'm gonna admit it. This was done on an extension cord coming off of a three-way splitter coming off a power strip. Not the safest or most practical way to do this, but I figured that since it worked with my old eMac G4 that had a 17" CRT, it would work with my iMac G3 with a 15" CRT.
So I moved the power directly to the wall. This time, I plugged in only the power and nothing else. I press the power button, and it still does the weird chime and fails to load.
So does anyone have any clues as to what to try? Before you tell me to bust this thing open, I'm gonna say this: I am deathly afraid of CRT monitors, and generally stay as far away as humanly possible from them. The iMac has had a history of few problems, but one of those was a loud, high pitched noise coming from the screen when it was in my aunt's basement. This was probably due to being to cold, or humidity, but switching screen resolutions seemed to fix it. I could switch back and it went along fine. I know it's the screen that was making the sound because my eMac had done the same thing just a week prior, even though it was in an environmentally-sound room, along with some other computers.
Anyway, she has since moved the iMac G3 up to the main part of the house that stays at a fairly steady 75F or so year round and doesn't get too humid. It's worked great, and we were gonna move her up to the G4 for speed benefits and so that she could video chat in Skype. When I last powered down the iMac G3, it was running absolutely fine. I got all the important data off it (thank God) and transferred to the iMac G4. I gently, without bumping it on anything, took it out to the car, gently set it on the foam-cushioned seat, and gently drove it home. When I got it home, I gently took it out, gently took it to the desk, and gently set it down. After a while, I put it screen-down on my lap to read the stuff on the bottom. I undid the RAM cover, popped out a stick, and put it back in. I haven't really gone back to check, but I'm about 90% sure that I got it in perfectly fine. After I looked at it, I gently set it back on the table and did the whole boot process that I explained earlier.
So what in the world could be causing this? Did I really bump it on something, or could it be a weather problem, or could it be that it decided to just stop working at the most perfect time?
    Specs are as follows:
    iMac G3 600 mHz Graphite
Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 or whatever the last update was
    1GB RAM
    40GB HD
ATi Rage 128 or whatever it is that's in these things
    Combo drive
    No Airport card
    No internal mods
Never been opened since I purchased it in late 2006.
Also, I think this would be the best place to note that there are little red pieces of what appears to be hard plastic. It looks to be about as thick as the casing that goes around the back. I remember it being in the speaker grill when I first got it, but after moving around, it has moved mostly to the bottom, just under the CD-RW/DVD drive. You can clearly see it through the translucent plastics of the iMac's casing. Not sure what the heck it is, how it got there, or if it has any significant importance to the problem at hand, but I figured it would be worth a shot by shouting that out.
OH, one more thing. I noticed, on the last successful boot at my aunt's house, that the sound would not work. I tried moving the slider up to change the volume, and nothing worked. It wouldn't turn the sound on. Very mysterious. Other than that though, it hasn't had any issues that I've seen.
Sorry for the huge post, but I just want to know if it's my stupidity stopping it from booting or if it really did just decide to end its usable life at the precise moment it wasn't absolutely needed anymore. I will check the RAM and post back if that fixes anything, so if there isn't a reply from me saying that I checked RAM and it fixed it, then it's still being a problem and the RAM wasn't the problem.
And if it really did just decide to stop working, does anyone know of anyone that puts Mac Mini's inside iMac G3 cases? It would be pretty freaking awesome if I could take my Mac Mini, put it in there, and possibly get rid of the CRT and replace it with an LCD panel. I've heard that it's been done before, but again, I'm deathly afraid of the stupid things that are CRT screens. Long story short, one imploded about three yards away from me and it scared the living **** out of me. I really wish all CRTs would just STOP working RIGHT NOW so that everyone had to move to LCD screens. It would make my life so much easier. Hey, why not start with my iMac? All right everyone, if you own a CRT monitor or a computer with a CRT monitor built in, make sure it isn't working by Tuesday, okay? *Shudders in fear of an imploding CRT...*

Since you removed/re-installed one of the memory DIMMs from the computer, that's the most likely culprit (as the computer worked perfectly earlier). Remove it again and re-install, making sure that it's fully-seated in the slot and that the locking levers snap closed at each end. Try booting the iMac again. If unsuccessful, immediately insert your Tiger installer DVD when you power ON and hold down the C key. If it boots to the Tiger disk, run Disk Utility to scan and repair the hard drive.

  • Problems sharing across two computers on home lan

I must be doing something basic wrong. The instructions for sharing a downloaded digital edtion sound very easy in the help manual but following those directions I am not able to share a book across two computers on my home lan.
Both computers have been authorized by my user id. When I open the menu item on Library menu/Authorize computer
I'm told the computer is authorized and my UID is shown. However when I attempt to `add' the book I get a message saying:
    > This document cannot be opened on this machine.
    > Please contact the site where you obtained the document
    > to download another copy.
I just bought the book today not more than 2 hrs ago
The `knowledgbase' help for digital editions is completely useless and returns no hits regardless of what I type in the search field.
What else do I need to do to share a book across two home computers?

    Harry
You shouldn't need anything else. The common problems (after you have gotten past the authorization) for sharing are:
    - You copy over the .etd file instead of the .pdf file.
    - You copy over the .pdf file from /Digital Editions/ebx_backup instead of /Digital Editions. (My best guess, given the error message).
    - The file was purchased with only rights to view it on a single machine.
The not so common and more worrisome case would be if the License was not being correctly written into the file after you purchase it.
I would suggest that after verifying you are copying the correct file, you should open up a web support case, so that Bentley can track this, and help us gather all the correct information so we can figure out what is going on.
    Sorry you're having problems

I have three gen3 apple tv's I have use two different internet providers and in two different locations and my apple tv's stop three or four times a movie. It stops with an iTunes is not available at this time message. My firmware it up to date I have a dual band wireless router the best I could find. And it still happens what can I do to prevent this I don't watch my apple tv sometimes because this is very irritating.
Has someone had and solved this problem.

"iTunes is not available at this time message": Is this because you are using a Home Sharing setting in iTunes or are you using the Apple TV by itself.
Are the films downloaded or are they streaming?

  • Will two different speed memory cause incapability?

I found that the reason of my computer sticking might be cause of using two memory with 2 kinds of speed. The first one is originally come from the Mac with DDR400, the second one I added with DDR333. Each single one can works perfectly, but when I use the together, sticking happens.
Also I found it stuck when it has 167MB of 512MB left in Activity Monitor.
But I have use them two together for 3 mouths without problems. And this trouble appears 1 weeks ago when I bought my iPod Shuffle. The first time I plug it, the computer begins to run wired that it appears many dots on my screen. But after restart, it back to normal. And I thought the sticking begins after that time.
    Any ideas?
    My skype id: afunuks

Hopefully my suggestion(s) may help resolve the issues
you have faced with the computer in question; another
item to note is the need for the hard disk drive to have a
good amount of 'free-space' for the applications and the
OS X system to function; since the total amount of chip
RAM one may install in one of these machines, is not
by itself adequate to run the System and several Apps
at the same time... So, the system was built to be able
to automatically utilize unused blocks of free-space on
the hard disk drive as "Virtual Memory."
You can see how the system and applications both use
this Virtual Memory (VM) in the Activity Monitor utility.
If the computer's hard disk drive gets too full, the Mac
will not run fast, and corruptions of the system and apps
may occur. And the hard disk drive may also fail.
So, it is a good idea to not run the computer's hard disk
drive too full of saved stuff; to put extra work on another
external drive or save as an archive to CD media or on
to flash memory USB, etc is better than harming the OS.
My computers run nearly 50% or so empty hard drive
space, so that means there is about half available for
the system to use as Virtual Memory. 17GB in iBook
and 53GB in the iMac. And having all the chip RAM
it can use also helps the computer run as good as it can.
I thought I'd mention this, since odd things acting up
may mean there may be more than one thing to check.
    Good luck & happy computing!
PS: for general computer specifications, upgrade info
and other, a good download (free database) for Mac
information is available from http://mactracker.ca &
note the specifications for RAM in eMac series.

    /Dhurgan

Normally we would not advise people to use Apple routers which are definitely home/domestic for a business use with a block of IP addresses which is not so easy to setup.
Anyway what you are suggesting will work. The trick of course is that both routers have to be different ip ranges, and different IP addresses so the clients behind them get different gateways.. but since you are all on the same IP range then you can actually reach any of the local clients from either AE..
    Give it a try..
If you run into trouble I think you will need a single enterprise class router and just use the AE in bridge as WAP and print servers and whatever else.. 3 port gigabit switch??
