Two WD MyBook Studios in Daisy Chain, Windows 7 not recognizing second HDD

I have two Western Digital MyBook Studio Edition II external drives in a daisy chain. These are the 2TB versions -- one functions as a Time Machine backup for both my MacBook Pro and iMac, and the other stores most of my media. The first drive in the chain, my Time Machine drive, is recognized and accessible through Windows 7, while the second drive is not.
What's odd, however, is that I've been able to access these drives together on a previous installation of Windows, in a similar hardware configuration.
What gives? Any suggestions? Has anyone run into this issue before?
I'm running Windows 7 on a 27" iMac (i5) with all available updates installed.

I found your post whilst researching my options for connecting 2 x My Book Studio II (both are the 4TB version) to my MacMini 2010 running Snow Leopard.
Do you only run Windows 7 on your Mac, or have you had success running Mac Snow Leopard too with your daisy-chain configuration?
The reason behind my question, is that I had some problems in the early days (18 months ago) with daisy-chaining, there was some corruption of data and the lights on the front of one drive indicated an (undocumented) error mode that WD support could not advise what it meant, their only advice was to reformat the drive again, and again (it was tedious.)
I had a unit replaced in the end, however I never had the nerve to go back to a daisy-chain configuration after my initial problems.
WD support advised me to connect one drive with FW800, and the other with USB - something to do with unique ID's.
I now need an additional USB port free, so I am considering daisy chaining the FW800 drives.
I could just try it of course, however the second drive is used to backup the first drive (and is then disconnected) - and I don't want to risk corrupting both drives now that I have 3TB of data.

then click the download button and then after it finsh installing try it out now

Scanner first set up on Windows Xp system. New HP p6710f desktop purchased last year with Windows 7 Home Premium operating system which recognized the scanner on USB and worked flawlessly . Recently rearranged the office which required disconnecting the peripherals, and now the scanner is not recognized .
The product support area on this website says the scanner is not supported on WIn 7 . How then did it work previously ?
And why would HP discontinue support for a product that still has a long useable life ? Is this just a ruse to encourage purchase of new products ? Should the baby be thrown out with the wash water ?
I am not a computer guru , but suspect a 'driver' is needed to get operational again ?

Is it better to daisy chain an apogee duet and external hdd or...

...setup an audio interface and external hdd to two separate bus ports? I ask because I going to be purchasing gear to set up my first home recording studio and I am torn between the MacBook Pro 15" and 17". The 17" comes with an Express Card slot (which I could use to utilize more bus ports), but is less portable and a little more expensive. The 15" is ideal in size, but lacks two firewire ports and Express Card possibilities. I know firewire is a must for a 7200 rpm external drive, but I have read very negative reviews about USB powered audio interfaces. Is daisy chaining a good idea? Are USB as bad as I've come to understand in terms of clarity and quality? Is the 17" my best option? I am looking at a starter's interface, like an Apogee Duet. The new Apogee One looks intriguing, but again, it is USB.

+1 for daisy-chaining Duet to Glyph. For audio work the 17" is the best option these days. The ExpressCard slot is invaluable for using Universal Audio plugins or powering an additional firewire device above and beyond the audio interface/hard drive, such as the Focusrite Liquid Mix.

Daisy chain isight imovie not working

I am currently botting my mac mini off an external hard drive. When I daisy chain the isight it works fine with ichat, but it fails to work with imovie. What happens is that it works for approx. 10 to 15 seconds and then the image skips(like an old tv skipping horizontally) and the image freezes. Any help would be widely appreciated.

Bill's good suggestion may give you what you want if you can try that.
... it seems that the only option is buying a powered hub that works.I can think of some others:
-Be sure you have NO unnecessary apps running while you are recording.
-If you are using FileVault, try turning that off. There are known issues with FileVault and iMovie.
-You can try booting from your internal drive when you want to use iSight to see if iSight works acceptably with iMovie that way.
-You can make very short clips and edit them together in iMovie.
-Try adding light. Many who post here experience an iMovie video "freeze" that is not related to which drive is being used to boot. There seems to be a wide variation in how long recording can be done before the freeze occurs. Perhaps you are just experiencing the "iMovie freeze"? You can search iSight Discussions (up on level) for "iMovie freeze" (without the quote marks) to find several other users' experiences.
-The iMovie freeze can be caused by low light. iSight switches to 15 frames-per-second to improve picture quality in low-light conditions. This causes a conflict with iMovie, which expects standard DV input at a fixed frame rate.
-As explained in David Babsky's "Various iMovie/iSight problems" msg # 1, Jul 14, 2005 response to your post in iMovieHD Discussions, more light, iMovie HD, and keeping other apps that use iSight closed may (my emphasis) help.
-Try another app like EvoCam. The fifth item in the EvoCam FAQ claims that they have a fix for the iMovie freeze. Their work-around involves resetting the video channel. You can do the same thing manually in iMovie by just making shorter clips and editing them together.
-Although I do not know any that yield better results, there are other video clip capture apps included in the Some Applications you can use with iSight FAQ.
-For more specific iMovie help, you may also want to check out the FAQs and posts in the iMovie Discussions area applicable to the version you use. The iMovie users are watching there.
I know you wish it would work differently, but it obviously is not working the way you want. Perhaps one of these work-arounds can help you accomplish your desired outcome, even if you cannot attain it via your preferred methodology.

C60 2nd Camera on Daisy chain set-up not booting-up

Hi,
I'm having issue with powering up the secondary camera after restarting the C60 in a daisy chain set-up. When the CODEC reboots, the secondary camera loses power it's and the work-around is to reconnect it's power supply. Any thoughts?
Firmware version of C60 is 7.1.4.

Having a number of very similar configurations (but with a C60 instead of a C40), I can confirm that the 2nd camera must have its own seperate power supply and doesn't get powered over the control cable. Only the first camera in the chain can get powered from the C40, but given the distance we usually have between the endpoint and the first camera, we often power the first camera seperately as well.
I have many rooms configured like this - but do have one room that often has a similar issue to what you're describing. When we reboot the C series endpoint, the cameras go back to the privacy position, and when the endpoint comes back up, the 2nd camera in the chain, on this one particular endpoint, does not show as a connected camera in the web interface, nor point to the preset position it is set to go to on startup. Unplugging the camera's power cable and re-plugging it (or in our case, turning it off and on again at the GPO as the camera is mounted 15' up a wall) restores the functionality of this camera.
As we have many working rooms, all configured the same, but have this issue on only one room, we haven't spent a lot of time investigating the issue, but expect that it's a power supply that is starting to fail, or too much voltage drop in long power cable which could be fixed by swapping out the power supply with a different one.

Windows Vista not recognizing ZEN Mi

I upgraded to Windows Vista 32-bit ultimate, and my ZEN Micro is not recognized. I have let Vista search for drivers online automatically, but it finds no solution. Creative says there is nati've support, so why is my ZEN not recognized?

Update:?I downloaded the XP driver and ran it in XP SP2 compatibility mode. My ZEN now shows up under My Computer, however the device is still not recognized by MediaSource, ZENcast, or the playsure sync manager. Windows 8 not recognizing my ipod

I got a new computer in December and since then, I have been unable to get the computer to recognize my iPod. It's an older model. White with click wheel, 30GB. I can't reset it using iTunes because the computer won't even recognize it. It's not even charging when connected to the computer. I've gone through the 5 steps, but the problem isn't with any of those. The iPod works, iTunes works. Windows 8 is the problem, but I don't know how to fix it.

Windows XP not recognizing the iphone still camera

I have been using successfully iphone (2G) with itunes and photoshop. For last 1 week when i updated the itunes to 8 and iphone to 2.0.2, windows does not recognize the digital still camera. Hence photoshop and picassa can't detect iphone and i can't sync photos from iphone to photoshop and vice versa.
It is working perfectly fine on other PCs. I know that there is something wrong with my windows or iphone drives but can't figure out what.
Itunes is able to detect the iphone and can sync seamlessly. Can anyone help whats going wrong.

One thing that might help.
When the iphone is connected to the computer, click on start.
Then right click on My Computer and choose Manage.
In the computer management window, click device manager on the left hand side.
The to right, look to see if there are any items with exclimation marks or red x.
If one is the iphone or under imaging devices, try reloading the driver or delete is.
If you delete it, disconnect the iphone and reconnect.

last time I tried updating from ios5 to 6, i had to reset my phone cause it got stcuk in recovery mode. Now I want to back up my phone befor I install ios6.xx, but my iphone is not recognized by Windows 7. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

My iphone id stuck with the picture of a usb cable connecting to the itunes icon.
I have tried any combination of holding the home button and/or the sleep button for 10, 20 , 30 , 40 60 sec.
But it's still stuck

Windows suddenly not recognizing iPod Shuffle - drive letter conflict

If you're having troubles with your PC not recognizing your Shuffle even though it used to recognize it in the past, this is just something else to consider (sorry if it's already been covered):
When I originally connected my Shuffle to my laptop on my home network, it was recognized immediately, and my WinXP OS assigned it the drive letter "I". Later, with the Shuffle no longer connected to the laptop, I was setting up my home network, and I mapped one of my shared network locations to the "I" drive letter on my laptop. The next time I plugged my Shuffle in, Windows would not recognize it. I proceeded to plug it into both of the other computers on my home network, and it was recognized immediately on both of them. So I then went back to the original laptop, disconnected the network drive mapping I had set up for "I". Once I did that, when I plugged my Shuffle back in, the Shuffle was again being recognized immediately (not surprisingly, still as drive letter "I"). In short, Windows has a memory of drive mappings made in the past, and sometimes this can produce unexpected or unwanted behavior (I would have expected my Shuffle to automatically be assigned the next open drive letter, but alas, that was not the case in my experience).
To minimize the possibility of running into this problem again (in case I do more network drive mapping in the future), I used the Disk Management utility in WinXP to change/force the Shuffle's drive letter on my laptop to be "Z" (right click on My Computer and choose Manage, then look for the Disk Management module - you probably will need Admin rights to do this, but I haven't confirmed that).

Had this happening too, had a very old cable, tried a new cable and it worked great. My ipod was showing up in itunes, but not in windows (or in device manager). When I tried to use the utility to copy files from my ipod to my hard drive I couldn't do it (wonderful utility getsharepod.com). The new cable solved the problem!
