Two week old refurb i7 has "died"

I put died in quotes because it isn't totally dead. Here's what happened.
I had been using Safari for quite some time. I decided to watch a TV show I had in iTunes. iTunes was already running.
I selected the TV show I wanted to watch and double clicked. I got the spinning beach ball. Nothing else. I waited 10 minutes. Nothing else. I couldn't get any response from iTunes so I Forced it to close.
I tried to re-run iTunes. It displayed a message saying the library was either locked or had been moved.
I opened Finder to look at my music folder. It was empty but an info on it said there was 59GB which is about correct.
I tried to restart. That didn't work. I waited for 10 minutes and didn't get a restart so I forced the shutdown by holding the power button for 5 seconds.
The i7 appeared to boot normally. Both displays came up with the correct images. Finder popped up showing that the music folder was now populated correctly. I moved the mouse to open the iTunes subfolder. The mouse moved OK but mouse clicks were not acknowledged.
In fact, nothing except mouse movement was available...no keyboard commands, no left click or right click responses. I could tap the power button and the i7 went to sleep. Press the space bar and it woke up. Still no response to mouse. In fact, the Dashboard wouldn't even come up. I have it set to autohide.
I couldn't shut down because no response, so I hard reset it again. It again booted normally with the same results.
I attempted a Safe Boot. When the box asking for my password came up I couldn't type into it. The keyboard wasn't recognized.
I tried clearing NVRAM, rebooted...same. Reset PMU, rebooted...same.
I then booted from a backup disk I made with SuperDuper a week or so ago. Exactly the same symptoms, can't get the dashboard up, mouse moves but no response to mouse clicks, no response to keyboard commands.
Any ideas?

Ok, I'm typing this on my i7 so obviously I have 'found' the problem. I typed the original post on my MacBook Pro. When I finished typing and posting (several minutes) I noticed that the Backup boot was now operating normally. I let it finish installing software updates and rebooted.
Same problem. I said...that sounds like a timeout problem. I immediately unplugged my three external FW800 drives from the FW port and the system magically came alive.
Guess I'll have to troubleshoot further to find out which drive is messing up.

  • Options after new phone stolen (had for two weeks), and refurb doesn't work?

Back in November, I ran into some bad luck with Best Buy phone insurance, and wasn't due for an upgrade with Verizon until March.  Long story short, I went into a Verizon store on Black Friday weekend to see what my options were, and walked away with a brand new Droid Maxx for only $40.  It counted as my new upgrade, and I was thrilled.
Not two weeks after purchasing the new phone, it was stolen from me.  I contacted the Asurion insurance company and shelled out $150 to have another phone overnighted to me.  Much to my surprise, they sent me a refurbished Maxx with a small crack in one corner - clearly a great deal older than my two week old stolen phone.  I decided to give the phone a chance, since I didn't have enough money for other options.
Now, nearly three months later, this refurb is not working out at all.  The crack has grown, I can't do any hands free or voice activating calling/navigation, the speakers cut out periodically, and most of the time I can't hear out of them to the point where I have to use speaker phone, and then the people I'm speaking with can't hear me.  To top it off, the usually fantastic and long battery life I enjoyed on the original phone are NOT present on the refurb.  It lasts half as long, when it does bother at all to charge.
I work for a hospital and need to be on call nearly every day, and the needless quirks on this phone are making it very difficult to do so.
I am at my wits end, and would like to know what my options are.  I did not pay almost $200 to insurance to have a subpar refurb for the next two years, and I cannot afford to pay $150 to Asurion for another refurb.  If my money goes anywhere, I would like it to go to something that will last me the next two years. I realize that I am very lucky to even have a nice phone, but it is not meeting my needs and is risking my day job when the hospital can't get ahold of me readily.
What are my options?  I am on  family plan.  Should I pull my number off the plan for my own?  Try to qualify for Verizon Edge?  Or take my number to another provider that will give me a new contract and a new phone?  Thank you for your help in advance!

You should have arranged return of the damaged replacement to begin with right then.  Too late for that though. At this point, you can buy a used phone on Swappa.com or elsewhere that is compatible to Verizon or buy full retail.  I don't they will let you Early Edge right now being so close to having just upgraded.

What does that have to do with the problem?
You want to delete (daily?) anything over two weeks old.  That's 14 days.  That's sysdate - 14.
    delete from mytable where mydatecol < sysdate -14;
It's so simple I'm afraid I must be missing some requirement that you haven't articulated.

  • Can only see emails no later than two weeks old! HELP!

Hello there. We use Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010 and I am having an issue with one user. She called yesterday to tell us that she was looking at her inbox and she noticed that she couldn't see any email after two weeks old. This user uses two different
computers, one at her desk and then one at the front secretary desk where she sits about 2 days a week.
I then checked to see if she had any filters on, even started outlook.exe /cleanviews, /cleanrules, and /safe and still couldn't see past two weeks. I then checked to see if cache mode was checked and it was not on either computer. Checked her deleted
folder and there was nothing in there but then did a restore and there was tons of stuff in there, so I restored it all because she said that it looked like it was the stuff but I don't think it was. Anyways, the restore didn't work and there are still only
two weeks of emails in her inbox. She's one of the few people here that go through all her emails and delete a lot of them and put some in folders that she really needs to keep.
I then checked around the other folders that she has and there were emails from way back, even going back years. Just to make sure, I enabled her OWA access and signed into her account on there and it had the same stuff that her outlook has so I don't think
    it's application related.
I'm wondering if there is anything else that I can check that could be causing this issue. I would be very appreciative for any help that can be offered.
If you have any questions for me please let me know.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
You cannot see the missing emails from OWA, right?
Have you checked if the emails were archived to a psf-file? You can also check the AutoArchive setting by right-clicking on Inbox and selecting Properties, then click
AutoArchive tab. Check if you set the "Clean out items older than" option to "2 weeks".
If so, you can try to open the PST file from File > Open > Open Outlook Data File. By default, the archive PST file is stored under: C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Outlook Files.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Less than two week old iPad Air crashes with youtube/netflix and Safari when loading pages with video (i.e. Buzzfeed with links to youtube and vine). What's up with iPad Air's bugs with videos??

Week and a half old iPad Air crashes with light usage of youtube, netflix and safari pages with video links to youtube and vine. The consistency of problems with videos has led me to determine that it must be bugs with iPad Air. Anyone else having this problem?
Details: iPad Air 16gb wifi, have only used about 25% of space and always close all apps before opening another. I also have only had a max of two tabs open on safari of basic internet surfing (i.e. A google search page, or imdb for example). These crashes are annoying as sh......

I can well imagine that they are.
I would backup, restore to factory settings, restore from the backup and then try again. If that fails, restore again but do not use the backup - restore as new. If the iPad functions OK as new, then slowly rebuild the iPad adding your apps, music etc, methodically to see if you can pin down what might be causing the problem.
if all of that fails, it's time to schedule an appointment at an Apple a Store (must be done online) and have them take a look, or of it is lees than two weeks old, just return it for a refund and buy another one.

My old HP computer has died which had all my music on it, I reinstalled Itunes on my new laptop....is there any way my music can be put on my new computer??

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Since your old computer is now longer working, the only songs that can easily be transferred are the ones you have purchased from iTunes. If you can access the files from the hard drive of the old computer, you can import those songs into the iTunes library on your new computer. Otherwise, you will need to re-import those songs from their original sources, be it CDs, file sharing sites, etc.

Apple could not tell you who else might be using your credit card, so there's no point in trying to contact them. All they could discuss with you is your own iTunes Store account, and if there's nothing in your purchase history, the charges almost certainly aren't coming from there. Again, you should take this up with your bank/credit card company and report these charges as fraudulent. They probably will cancel your card and issue you a new one.
    Regards.

Did you purchase the Mac new?
You have 14 calendar days from the time your items are delivered to initiate a return as noted here.
Even though you are past the 14 day limit, if it were me, I'd take the Mac back and explain what's going on. Your Mac should work out of the box.

I have a Samsung Network Extender, model SCS-2U01, and for the past two weeks, the SYS light has gone from solid blue to a blinking red light, disconnecting me from my business calls. In reading the forums, it was mentioned that Verizon had to reset something on their end to fix the issue. Would you be able to confirm if something needs to be reset to fix the issue? Thank you!

First, try the normal stuff: power cycle your modem, router, and NE allowing time for each component to stabilize before turning on the next in sequence modem > router > NE. If necessary, try resetting your modem and router. If it still doesn’t work verify it is listed in MyVerizon and then calling Verizon Wireless Customer Service at (800) 922-0204. Good luck!

  • HT201210 My less than 2 week old iPhone 5 has gone into recovery mode... I've tried plugging into itunes and restoring but error code 21 keeps coming up. Please help!!!!!

My less than 2 week old iPhone 5 has gone into recovery mode... I've been trying to restore all day using itunes but just as the restore is about to finish, error 21 comes up. My phone is essential for work and this has caused me endless problems today. I am disgusted with this, I need a reliable phone. Please someone help me get it working again?!

    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • HT1766 Why does my pc say that there is no drivers for my new Ipad Air. I did a backup this night from the two week old Ipad Air that I smashed the front?

Why does my pc say that there is no drivers for my new Ipad Air. I did a backup this night from the two week old Ipad Air that I smashed the front?

Drivers are iOS specific....meaning if your old one had iOS 7.0.6 and your new one 7.1 then it needs different drivers.
Is your iTunes up do date? if not, then updating it may help.
You can also try using a different usb cord and port to see if that triggers the driver download.
or, if that doesn't work, try going into your control panel, add/remove programs. Look for 'apple mobile device service' and uninstall that. THen plug your iPad in and it should reinstall.
If that doesn't work, go back into the control panel but uninstall iTunes, and apple mobile device service and apple application support, then redownload and reinstall iTunes and see if that gets your drivers fixed.
Another way to do that is go right click on 'my computer' 'properties' and go to 'device manager'
plug your iPad in and do you see it show up in the list? YOu may need to click some of those little plus signs to open up the lists. If you see your iPad, right click on the name and you should see an option to update the driver.

  • My 15" MBP is two weeks old but battery capacity is already lowering significantly?

I've had my 15" MBP for about two weeks now and CoconutBattery is already telling me that the capacity is down to 95% (design capacity - 6900 mAh, current capacity - 6586 mAh) Also, the details show that the battery is 19 weeks old and has gone through 23 battery loadcycles. I also just unplugged my laptop from a full charge and after less than 45 minutes of simple web browsing, it has already fallen to 67%. While I do use my laptop quite a bit, I've always used Macbooks because I find the battery life to be pretty durable for the machine. I only had to change my pre-2008 Macbook Pro battery once in almost 4 years. Can someone tell me if something seems wrong and should I contact AppleCare about it?

Why do people always recommend to recalibrate the battery and then link that document from apple about calibrating the battery that specifically states that the batteries are pre calibrated???
    "Portables with built-in batteries
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider."

  • Very Low Call Volume of two week old iphone.  Any pointers to resolve this?

I just bought the iphone two weeks back. Everything was fine until after I synched up the iphone 3g with itunes and installed some free apps from apple store. I can barely hear other person's voice. Note that increasing the volume using the side buttons is of no use. I am still on version, 2.0.1 ( 5B108).
Does anybody else has this problem? Any one knows about the resolution to this? PS: while i was typing this message I received an att message asking me to upgrade version of my iphone. Is that a good idea ?
    Message was edited by: DrNew

Thanks for response. But few days back the max volume was pretty fine ( before I synched up iphone). Now its reduced by atleast 70% as even when set to max I can barely hear other person that too from same location. I am inside my office and not on the street or other noisy location.

  • Returning a 3 week old refurb MB

On the 8th of Feb I took delivery of my wifes new MB from the refurb store in the UK. Last week the case started to crack.
i have a MB, it's nearly 1 year old, it's now on it's 2nd case that is also cracking and needs to go back for another repair.
I thought Apple had sorted this issue, but judging by my wifes machine, clearly not.
I'm now not keen to retian my wifes new machine as I suspect we will have the same experience with that as I've had with mine. So I'm going to attempt to reject it for a complete refund.
Anyone know where I stand on this?

Called Apple, spoke to a lady, told her the new 3 week old Mb was cracking, got ready for a fight, she asked me to hold whilst she went to check out my options. Came back 2 mins later and said the best thing was for them to have it collected and a 100% refund.
Hmmm, I almost looked forward to the fight.
