Two weird errors?

Today I got two errors which I would like to understand better, they might be related but I'm not sure.
The first error was that the syslog-ng daemon didn't want to start at boot up. It only gave an error message along the line with "couldn't find libcap.so2". I could still start up X, but there when I tried to launch firefox it only gave me the error message "couldn't load XPCOM".
At that point I figured they where related so I rebooted into a terminal and did
pacman -S libcap
which gave me alot of "file exists in filesystem error" which I get kind of frequently. Sorry about not having the exact error messages, but basically it was alot of "/usr/share/*" stuff that already existed in the filesystem. Now I did what I normally do; a pacman -Qo [file], checking so no package owns the files and then
pacman -Sf libcap
Now this solved the first problem, syslog-ng was running again, but this did not resolve the firefox issue.
I tried to resolve this by completely removing firefox with
pacman -Rs firefox
but that resulted in
package "firefox" not found
How could this happen, firefox is installed on my system but somehow pacman has forgotten all about it?
Any way I got firefox running again by doing a
pacman -Sf firefox
Where I need to force the install since all the files are already there, and leaving out the "f" gives me alot of those "* exists in filesystem" errors I mentioned before.
Everything seems to be working now, but I still have the eerie feeliing that something is broken somewhere. I mean why did this happen all of a sudden. I did update my system yetserday I think, is that what broke all this? It is as if pacman somehow forgets about some packages it has already installed, like in this case libcap and firefox, the files are still there but doing an upgrade messes stuff up somehow. Can someone explain what's going on here?
This turned out quit lengthy, but I really would like to understand what's going on here. So any hints are appreciated.

That is strange, and I can't say that I have gotten anything like this is Arch before, but I have had similar problems appear in other distros.  Usually what I do is to use Catfish (or insert your file finder of choice) to locate the offending files and delete them via superuser file manager, so that the program can be installed freshly and completely.  For example, with Firefox search for the firefox files and delete them manually so that pacman -S will install freshly and completely.
It probably was caused by an update (perhaps an update that went array) but unless you have other problems materalize, I wouldn't worry about it.  It is best to update on a daily basis, because if you wait too long between updates there is greater risk of breakage.  Pacman -Syu often and hopefully you won't have anymore problems like this.

• Help Weird Error Messages Connecting Externals on USB

Hi,
For some reason very recently everytime I plug in a peripheral into the usb port I get a weird error message and the units (like an external HD, external DVD burner, etc.) won't work. The errors are something like:
The system extensions/system/library/extensions/systems/kext plugins/libkern.kext was installed improperly and can not be used. Please reinstall ir or contact the products vendor for an update.
Ohter error with the have the same message but file components change like:
iousbfamily.kext
bsdkernel.kext
mach.kext
udf.kext
system.kext
unsupported.kext
Anybody have a clue? Thanks

Yes, you should absolutely report it as a bug.
But this is a problem in error reporting, not in valid code compilation, because the code
cannot compile -- so don't expect to impart much momentum on a fix without additional community support.
There's very clearly a coding problem that the static function f cannot access the non-static member
g.
To estimate the risk of more serious problems with the compiler, I investigated the two closest scenarios for making the code legal.  If you either:
make g a static member (and give it storage), or
make f a non-static function (and call it with an instance of A)
...then the code is valid and the compiler doesn't ICE in either case.
So the severity of this problem is very low because, as you said, this ICE seems to occur only when there is an error in the code.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

Agreed; Since the FX-5800 and up GPU's Require up to 7 Amps from the +12V Rail, then Yes 16 Amps is Very Light indeed , Dont Forget your P4 CPU under Stress (Gaming) Can require up to 10-11 Amps, combine that with the 7 Amps that your GPU May Require, and you are Over your +12V Rails Power capabilities...You should have at Least 20Amps on your +12V Rail, and because you are a Gamer! You should Have one of the Better PSU's Available that have 30 Amps + available on the +12V Rails. ie Enermax 465W or Antec 480W..............Sean REILLY875

• Please help me, two similar errors 1772 and 2080

Hello, I have a problem. I went to ign.com and when the page loaded an advertisement also loaded, ign.com always has advertisements. Well the advertisement minimized itself so I opened it and closed it, and my whole browswer shut down and I received an error message on my desktop called hs_err_pid1772. I didn't know what it was, so I looked on the internet and there isn't a single page on it. I found one forum page, and a few people said they got the same error, but no fixes. I jumped on my laptop and again went to ign.com, the advertisment loaded, I closed it, and BAM, the whole browser shut down again and on my laptop I got the error message hs_err_pid2080, its almost identical to the 1772 error I received on my desktop. Was it just the advertisement screwing everything up or what? Also when I went back to ign.com after, I went back a few times after the error, my browswer froze quickly. I have gotten ign.com to work once out of the 5 or so times I tried after the error. Obviously this error is coming from ign.com since I got it on my desktop and laptop right when I went to their site. But I dont know what it means. I am also using 1.4.2_04 for my java plugin. The contents of the hs_err_pid1772 are here, and they are almost identical to the 2080 error I received on my laptop. I just don't get why I got two different errors off the same website on two different computers, anways, this is the 1772 error?

I couldn't find anything on the internet about either error. I also couldn't find either error on the java website. If somebody could please help me, it would be greatly appreciated. My email address is [email protected] if you want to write me there, or just reply to my post. Thank you so much.

Hi
hs_err_pidXXXX is the file that is generated when the hotspot crashes.
I would think that
hs== hotspot
err== error
pidXXXX== process id, being windows, it should be PID under task manager.
I loaded www.ign.com and it seemed fine to me. I am using IE too but with 1.4.2_05.

• Weird error message using phone as iPod

When I plug my iPhone into my car's iPod connection cord (which works fine with regular iPods and does not cause regular iPods to display any weird error messages), the iPhone says something about how "...that accessory does not work with the iPhone..." and asks me whether I want to switch to airplane mode. In spite of this weird message, I am able to play my music via the usual method in my car. Weird. Remedy?

Actually Human,
Many iPod accesories were not designed to operate in close proximity to a GSM phone. The iPhone is a GSM phone. There is a program for iPod accessory manufacturers to test and certify their accesories for use with the iPhone. This article contains more information:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305766
That being said, many will work without going into airplane mode, some will get interference from the GSM signal that will come through as a hum or sometimes popping noise. Since sending and receiving the GSM signal is needed to make calls, the iPhone can't be shielded to prevent interfering, the accessory needs to be.
This article contains more information on potential interference:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305662
The short answer is the car adapter may work without going into Airplane Mode, or it may have interference from the GSM signal at times.
Hope this helps,
Nathan C.

• Weird error message on Adobe Reader XI installation.

I've just downloaded Adobe Reader XI and started to instal it but get this weird error message:  "The ordinal 459 could not be located in the dynamic link library urlmon.dll".  What does this mean and what can I do about it?

Hi EbSax,
Please try out the suggestions mentioned here - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-performance/the-ordinal-459 -could-not-be-located-in-the/d93d1cdf-763b-4403-bcc8-ca06d16f4f4a

• I am running Windows7 on my PVC. When I log in I'm getting two Apple error messages. One says, " The procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll." The second says, "Apple Photostreams stop

I am running Windows7 on my PVC. When I log in I'm getting two Apple error messages. One says, " The procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll." The second says, "Apple Photostreams Uploader has stopped working".  Help!

Entry point errors can often be fixed by deleting the offending dll, then repairing the component it is part of. If that doesn't help read on...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

This is not a weird error... This is Java HotSpot... It comes when java is unable to continue run and it has to Exit. Like in windows you would have seen error box when program terminates.
The posted trace is from a windows box.
Java HotSpot generely I have seen because of Too High CPU usage (and memory too). Java does not get enough resource to run... Please check your code where is the Loop which needs high resource... try to refactor that code...No.
Standard general causes of this.
- Use of JNI or a third party library that uses JNI
- A combination of video drivers, video card and fonts. This one is less prevalent than it used to be.
- Bad environment, memory, installs, programs, etc.
- Bug in the VM.
Presuming in your reported case that none of the other causes applied then you found a bug in the VM. That doesn't mean that anyone else found the same one.

• Creative Zen Microphoto Weird Errors

I'm having weird errors with my microphoto.
It started by freezing when I tried to replay a song.
Then, when I loaded it up, it made about 0 really quiet consecuti've beep sounds directly from the hardware not the speakers, and it stuck at the creative logo.
I went into recovery mode, and it would not clean disk, format disk, or reload firmware, or be recognized by the computer through USB.
Any Help? I can't do anything really right now with it.

same problem here, creative logo stays until all the juice is drained

• Weird error with sync

I have an older 10GB iPod with the buttons across the top. I am trying to sync it with my computer and it starts to and then brings up a weird error message. It says that it can not be done because the folder can not be found. I dont even get a chance to restore my ipod because as soon as i plug it in it starts to do it and then brings up the message and ejects and shuts off the ipod. Please help.

Just wanted to add some more info. I have done a proper restart of my iPad. I have also restarted first iTunes (no difference) and then the computer. No difference.
Then I went into Preferences and deleted the device backup for my iPad. Plugged the iPad back in and it did a new backup VERY quickly. Unplugged, plugged back in and synced again... AND it's still installing all the apps (which are already on my iPad)... AGAIN
I really don't know what to try next...

• Weird error -DebugMode — null::Transaction/WinGuiRenderLayer

Hi All,
I have been getting the following weird error whenever I try to run my application through portal. The same application (just a simple SAP tx iView with SAP GUI type as Win gui) was working fine till this morning. Not sure whether or not there had been some changes in the server side that might have taken with/without knowledge of the basis guys.
DebugMode — null::Transaction/WinGuiRenderLayer
Start Application     go
Current Layer No.     4
Stop at layer No.     0 1 2 3 4
After I press 'go' button only my application runs.
Thanks for any help
Sathish

Hi Ramesh,
Basically my connection to R3 works and also connection test worked fine.
As mentioned earlier, everything was working fine till yesterday morning and then I started getting this debugmode window and after pressing the button 'go' I can able to see my application (if there is any alias, port problems I think I should not be allowed to get my application running .. right!!!).
Can you please explain me in detail about how to locate the winGUI path???
Thanks
Sathish

• Weird error from iMovie 9.0.2 - Quartz Extreme required - what gives?

I got this weird error message from iMovie 9.0.2 today ...
"Quartz Extreme required.
iMovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme.
[Quit]"
What is going on here? I have an Intel i5 Quad Core iMac with 16GB of RAM and 1.5TB free on my drive. The graphics card in this iMac has 1GB of VRAM (ATI Radeon HD 5750) so I thought it could handle pretty much anything I throw at it.
I had a movie of my daughter's school play (about 1.5 hours) which I edited in iMovie today and then selected the Menu to finalize the Project.
SInce it was taking a few hours, I left the machine to run and do its thing.
When I got back, I found that iMovie had shut down and I had the above error message on my screen.
I bought this machine so that I could do some amateur video editing ... and this is my first attempt. Not happy with this result!
Any advice/suggestions/guidance on what is going on here?
Thanks

CH,
Not I do not have a colition to this, but it has not happened to me in a while.
Good Luck with this and hope someone chimes in to help you.

• Weird error when clicking on instance- flow from the console

When I have heavy volume coming in for the bpel server(ex: hundreds of instances generated at a time), I see the following weird error when I am trying to see the instance flow from console:
Process state off. The process class "BugBAM" (revision "v2004_12_20__61032" ) has not been turned on. No operations on the process or any instances belonging to the process may be performed if the process is off. Please consult your administrator if this process has been turned off inadvertently.
I didn't do anything to the process to turn the state off. What does this error message mean?
Thanks, Jenny

I am assuming that you are using 10.1.2 beta 1. Is that correct? I am wondering if in that version there is a switch that turns a process off when a new version of the process is deployed (this would be a bug because the active process should only be switched to retired).
Next time you get this error, could you please go to the BPEL Console and check the state of the BPEL process.
We will try to trace the error message in the source code and try to determine if there are other circumpstances which would generate the same error code.
Edwin
