Two WLC 2504 in same Network

I have two WLC 2504 controllers. These controllers are for two different buildings. But they share a VLAN, and network address range.
How can I control the access points to the register selected only at a specific controller.
Example:
AP 1 -> WLC 1
AP 2 -> WLC 2
AP 3 -> WLC 1
Since the buildings also broadcast in different SSID.
The two controllers are in a mobility group.

I also ran into an install similar to yours. My client had a flat network and each wlc had licenses for the amount of APs in a particular building. What I did to make sure the APs never join the other wlc, is to use a Mac list. This allowed me to enter the APs base Mac address on the wlc and I enabled under the ap policy to verify authorization using Mac list. You can also do what AA mentioned which is good practice, but you have a chance that APs might join the other wlc. If the other wlc has different configurations, it might cause issues until the ap falls back to its primary.

Yes you can do all that without needing to keep plugging things in and out. You will still need to manually turn on the receiver and turn down the volume from the tv though.

  • Use two interfaces on the same network

    Hello every one,
I actually starting to work on a cisco project. I'm a beginner on networking and cisco technologie.
For my project we use a router 2921.
    We got two network:
    - Network A: 192.198.0.X / 255.255.255.0 / Gateway 192.198.0.1
    - Network B: 162.168.0.X / 255.255.0.0 / Gateway 162.168.0.1
Each network use switch, Switch A (connecting to network A) is connected to interface G0/0.
And Switch B (connecting to network B) is connected to interface G0/1.
    Router well configured as:
    - G0/0: ip address 192.198.0.1 255.255.255.0 (network A)
    - G0/1: ip address 162.168.0.1 255.255.0.0 (network B)
    Every think working fine.
The problem is with this one, we need to connect a computer on G0/2. This computer is configure as network A (192.198.0.10 / 255.255.255.0 and same gateway).
    I can't configure G0/2 as 192.198.0.1 255.255.255.0 (network A), cause G0/0 use this adresse.
I can't put this computer on the switch A, my only physical possibilité is to connect him on G0/2.
We just need to use interface G0/0 and G0/2 as a switch on the router with the same gateway (192.198.0.1)
How can i connect this computeur? How can i configure two interfaces on the same network and same gateway?
    Thanks you

I would just put the PC on a different network, but if you really want it to be in the same network, you could use IRB to connect two of the interfaces on the router at layer 2.
Here is an example config for IRB:
    interface FastEthernet0/0
    bridge-group 1
    interface FastEthernet0/1
    bridge-group 1
    bridge irb
    interface BVI1
    ip address 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
    bridge 1 route ip
Notice that the physical ports do not have IP addresses on them, the IP for the subnet is on the BVI interface.

  • Two WLC over the same SUBNET - selection from AP for determinate WLC

    Hi
I have the next problem, my company have two WLC (WISM1 - IOS 7.0 and WLC2504 - IOS 7.4), and we have 4 types of APs (1131, 1242, 1040 and 1600), well the WISM 1 manages the old APs 1131, 1040 and 1242, the 2504 manages the 1600, this because the WISM 1 don't support the 1600
Well my question its how i can assigned to APs 1131, 1242 and 1040 to connect to WISM1 and not to 2504 , both are on the same subnet and the Ip its send for DHCP with option 43, others for DNS and apparently some of my APs connected to the 2504, I wish only connect to WISM 1
How i can set priority in the AP for conect to WISM1?, i read the High Availability on the AP, this is enough or should we make any extra settings the WLC
    Thanks for the response

Can I have configure the same SSID with the same NPS radiud win 2008 server in this another WLC 2504?? and How could I do it?
    Regards,
    Claudio L.

    Hi Scoott,
Thank you so much for your response.
I have used this guide to configure this deployment :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps10315/products_configuration_example09186a0080bfb19a.shtml
In win 2008 server , I just only add the WLC like a new Radius Client ?
    I mean ,
    Frienly Name : WLC2
    Address IP : 192.168.1.X
    Vendor : Radius Standard
    Share secret : xxxx
    And That´s all, right ?

  • How can I connect two macs in the same network?

Both are connected to the same network. One via ethernet and the other via Wifi (Airport Extreme). Both share the same Internet conection. I have followed instructions for files sharing. I can access only the computer linked to my home network via ethernet, but not the other way. It does not found the server address provided in file sharing by the computer conected via Wifi. Any clue? Can it be that the IP address of the Wifi conected is DCHP?

Are you using Connect to Server or Shared sidebar in the Finder? What OS X versions do the two machines run?

  • Using two e2000 on the same network

I purchased two e2000s for my home network.  Since the routers do not work on both bands at the same time, I decided to set one up for 2.4Ghz and the other on 5Ghz.  I had to set them up separately but hooked up to the internet while setting them up (obvoiusly, since it cannot be done otherwise).
I had everything set up like I wanted (primary e2000 is 192.168.1.1 with DHCP enabled, 2.4 Ghz and secondary e2000 is 192.168.1.2 DCHP disabled, 5Ghz, wired together) and each running a guest network.  I figured i'd have 2 guest networks, one for b,g,n and one for high-speed n.
Currently, everything works fine, except the secondary guest network did not come back up when I connected everything back together.  I think once I set the secondary router to 192.168.1.2, the guest network went away.  Of course, I cannot access the secondary router via the connect software since I changed the IP address manually, and I cannot try to reset the guest network.  Before I go back and work on my secondary router so I can get my second guest network back (yes it was working fine originally) is it possible to run the guest network if the base IP is not 192.168.1.1?  I'd rather not waste a few more hours if it is not possible.
    Thanks for any help.

Correct. The guest network is a network for guests which you would like to have internet but not access your LAN. If you want them to access your LAN as well you give them your main network passphrase.
Not using the internet port on the second E2000 is not in the user manual either. While possible, it's not really a fully officially supported setup. It's not in the user manual. It's not supported by the setup program. You'll only find it into the FAQ/KB.
If you don't use the internet port there are a lot of features which don't work because they only affect traffic between the LAN and the internet port and vice versa, access restrictions, dyndns, etc.

  • Sharing two computers on the same network

I have a mac mini and a mac air and wish to synch/share the entire Itunes with each other.  I have turned on home sharing but do not see the devices listed with each other.  They are both on the same network and can be seen by apple tv.

The only way I know to share iTunes Libraries is to do what you said you did. Turn on Home Sharing for both devices. You will only see the device's Library (under Shared) in the Sidebar of iTunes. You won't see the actual device.
For example I have an rMBP and a Mac Mini. Both have Home Sharing turned on in iTunes. From the Mac Mini, I see the rMBP's iTunes Library. From the rMBP, I see the Mac Mini's iTunes Library.

  • Two root bridge in same network

    Dear Team,
As I checked, there are two root bridge in the same LAN.
We have 6500 which is manually configured as root bridge and this is showing root for all the vlans in the network. Once switch connected to 6500 through 4500 is showing root for the vlans that not assigned to any of the port. Please help to clear it.

Here, I have not assigned any port in vlan 2 and this is showing root bridge for vlan 2. In which cases such thing can happen?
    Thank You,
    Abhisar.

By default, Cisco switches run one spanning tree instance per VLAN and negotiate the topology with other connected switches. If your 3560 believes it is the root for VLAN 2 and there are no ports using VLAN 2, it will consider itself the to be the root because it hasn't been able to negotiate a topology for this VLAN with any other devices. This is normal. Once ports are connected to VLAN 2 and the 3560 can talk to the other switches, the spanning tree will be renegotiated and should behave as you expect.
If you want to have a single spanning tree topology for all VLANs and avoid this behaviour, consider moving to a single-instance MSTP configuration.

  • Weird issue when trying to use two computers on the same network.

Hi all...i just just moved house and i'm using a different connection with my time capsule.
basically i've just plugged the modem into the ethernet port on the timecapsule as usual, and now for some reason me and my partner cannot use the computers to access the net at the same time
my access will halt as soon as he starts, and the only way to gain access again is to renew the DHCP lease, which subsequently boots him off....
anyone know how to fix this?

it's a wireless modem. not like a usb stick with a 3g connection. it's called unwired here in australia....its crap, but im using it for the next few days until my cable connection is installed at the new house.
it's pretty much the same as a regular modem and has an ethernet port on it which you can either use to connect directly into your system, or plug into a router or wifi (or in my case, time capsule which i'm using as the wireless base station)
i've just done the usual thing of plugging the ethernet cable from the modem into my time capsule, and it seems to work fine as long as it's only one user on the network. but as soon as someone else jumps in, their system gets access and mine stops. the only way to get mine working again is to renew the DHCP lease in networking preferences, but that ends up booting the other person off.
i havent changed any settings at all and we never had this issue at the old house...so i'm not sure if its some configuration with the time capsule, or if it's something weird about the dodgy modem i'm using...

  • Can there be two Admins on the same network?

    A quick question:
Our plant has a network that stretches across the US,
and currently all our Macs ( 40+) are on it.
I am the admin for one region ( 30 or so macs),
    and we are looking
to setup another admin in another region (10 or more macs).
We have one seat of RD on my machine running now.
if we buy a second, will there be any conflicts?
    Any issues?

You can have multiple seats of the ARD admin application running simultaneously without problems, particularly if you plan to split the workstations into multiple groups as you indicate. Though I've not had more than one admin running at the same time a lot, I've never encountered any issues when doing so.

  • How can we use two Discovery Systems in same network

    Hi Experts,
I have two discovery systems with me and both of them have same SID and host name. As per the Discovery Systems configuration document we should not change any settings.
Now I have a requirement like use one discovery system for R3 & BW and the other one for XI, EP and AII.
Could any one tell the best approach to get it done?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Siva

    Hi Siva,
the blog you found was created based on version 2 of the SAP Discovery system.
For version 3 there is the option to adjust the host name according to your needs during the system set-up. You can read the details in the [Quick Guide|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/801dd54d-dd37-2a10-eca7-94bce2de28bc].
    Hope that helps,
