Two Youview boxes

I bought a YouView box  a couple of months ago and yesterday accepted a BT offer to take another for £25 plus £5 a month for BT Vision.  I understand my BT YouView consumption will not count towards my 40Gb Infinity limit: but will that now also apply to the non-BT YouView box I bought?

Given that BT & youview both don't officially support (offer)  multiroom - I suspect you won't get a definitive answer as if they don't offer a product (multiroom) you are hardly going to have any Terms & Conditions for it.
A BT Help page says
Does my YouView viewing count towards my broadband usage allowance?
No, not if you have a BT Vision subscription. If you have any BT Vision subscription such as Essential or Unlimited, then none of the On Demand programmes, whether it’s from BBC iPlayer, Now TV or BT Vision, count towards your monthly broadband usage allowance.
This suggests to me that currently its probably down to whether or not you have a suitable  BT TV subscription on your registered broadband line rather than the Youview box used. I could be wrong of course .

  • Running a youview box from a broadband extender

    Hi,
    I run my Youview + box successfully from a broadband extender flex 500 successfully. I have the unlimited broadband infinity 1 package. I wish to order a second youview box(the one that doesn't record). I was told that I could not use this same system with the second box because it has to have an Ethernet cable to the modem. They consider the system I use to be 'wireless'and therefore not suitable. They say I can only run one youview box on a broadband extender system. Is this the case? Does anyone else run two youview boxes on the broadband extender system. They said it is not an Ethernet connection (I thought that was the whole point!) using this method. Please could someone confirm this for me and /or explain why it won't work!
    Many thanks.

    BT never used to accept Powerline adapters at all. At least they seem to accept 500mpbs devices as valid for one box now.
    However I suspect that they don't want to risk people complaining if people take out an extra box subscription and have problems if, say, both boxes are used for watching and recording HD channels simultaneously via Powerline.
    To be clear there is no reason why you can't run two boxes off the same Powerline AV500 network except that if one or both of your adapters have low throughput (due to mains interference, poor wiring etc.) you could struggle trying to use both boxes simultaneously for both viewing and recording IPTV. If you are prepared to take the risk, go for it! (BT won't help you if you have problems though).

  • Connecting Youview box to DVD and TV. Now ordinary...

    Hi, Does anyone know how to connect a TV, BT Youview box and a DVD recorder together.  I have two SCART, one RF and one Aerial connection together but now we cannot watch our ordinary TV.  I need this for my son.  It is probably a simple connection error but we can't work it out.  Any help greatly appreciated

    Put the aerial feed in to the YouView box 'antenna in' and connect a cable from the YouView 'aerial out' to the 'aerial in' on your TV. Connect YouView box HDMI out to HDMI socket on your TV if you have one. If not connect the YouView to SCART to your TV SCART. Connect your DVD player to the other SCART socket.
    Use the AV setting on your TV to switch to the YouView box and:
    Go in to you YouView menu as follows:
    YouView/Settings/Device Management and make sure 'RF Loop Through' is set to ON.
    This will allow you to access your own TV's tuner and YouView also.
    Use the 'AV' setting on your TV to switch between TV's own tuner, YouView and your DVD player.
    HDMI is preferable but if you don't have any HDMI sockets - and most TVs do these days - then SCART will have to do.
    I hope you get it working.

  • Why can't I use a Vision+ and a YouView Box

    Hi,
    I'm with BT and pay £5 a month for BT Vision. I have their YouView box in one room. They only allow BT Sport on the YouView box if you have fibre and there's no fibre in my area. I asked BT if I could run a YouView box and BT Vision box at the same time and they said no. I ordered a BT Vision Card for a tenner via the online BT shop and bought a BT Vision+ box off eBay for 99p. My assumption was that I couldn't run both boxes at the same time (ie connected to the hub)......not a problem I can only watch one TV at a time!
    I've disconnected the YouView from the BT Hub and connected the Vision+ Box but I get a C03 message saying my Vision+ isn't activated. Am I right in thinking BT must be able to activate one of two Vision services depending on the box? My initial assumption was that only one box could physically be connect at any one time.
    Has anyone else experienced similar? Is there any way around this? Seems unfair as I am a BT Vision customer, I am paying £5 a month and if I want to watch BT Sport I have to give up my YouView box. BT say I can watch their channel via the web.....not being funny but a simple google search and I could watch their channel without even needing to sign up!!!!!
    Thanks
    Louis

    It sounds like the 99p BT Vision+ box is running the Classic software rather than the New Look software. This is something you really should have checked before buying a second hand box. Once such boxes are deactivated they are effectively a door-stop unless BT choose to reactivate them. The box would need to be reactivated and then BT would need to send the New Look software upgrade to it in order for you to be able to use the viewing card for BT Sport.
    I don't know, but suspect that BT would be reluctant to activate and upgrade a box that wasn't issued to you directly by them. They have been gradually turning off the Classic software over the last year or so and it involves older licensing agreements with Microsoft and content providers. Plus it might cause the central system problems now that you have a newer BT Youview box associated with your account. I suppose there's no harm in asking though?

  • Any way to change aspect ratio via youview box?

    I have a Sharp LC-13SH1E 20" tv. Since replacing the Vision box with the new Youview box 3 days ago, the picture is all stretched and elongated up/down. BT advised changing the aspect ratio on my tv but there is no way of doing so on this tv.
    This is the advice i received from a pc forum:
    "It sounds like the YouView box is outputting a widescreen image, and because your TV's has an aspect ratio of 4:3, everything looks stretched vertically.
    I've had a look at the manual for TV too but there don't appear to be any options for selecting the aspect ratio. I've also looked at the YouView box manual expecting to see the same sort of options I get on my Sky Box such as 16:9, 4:3, 4:3 letterbox, etc. The last two are the ones relevant to your setup. I can't unfortunately find the same settings for your YouView box. Have a good look yourself and hopefully you'll find there is indeed a way to change the box's aspect ratio to 4:3.
    Good luck."
    Can anyone help please? Been round and round in circles with the **bleep** thing.....

    Actually, i have another question... since i was not made aware of this design fault when i took out the contract, can i cancel it? Really cross.
    The picture should be displayed on your TV in a letterbox - a wide thin image in the horizontal middle with black bars top and bottom. If you're seeing it any other way the chances are your TV IS doing something to the picture.
    I think the problem is actually that the TV isn't doing anything to the picture. It's just treating all signals as though they are 4:3 regardless of what the WSS indicator is telling it (SCART Pin 8 ?). Hence 7ft-person-o-vision. This seems a bit daft considering widescreen transmissions have been around for donkeys years long before digital TV or Freeview and Youview. The TV does seem to have a fundamental design fault. I have a 14 year old portable 4:3 CRT TV and even that allows me to display widescreen transmissions correctly in letterboxed format.
    cath60,
    I can appreciate that you might have assumed a new box would do the appropriate 4:3 reformatting like the BT Vision box does, but I guess they have to phase out support for certain things at some point in time. All the BT boxes after the silver ones also had the picture output over RF cable facility removed as well which annoyed a lot of customers. Sky have now removed that from their latest boxes as well. Things move on. It's just unfortunate that you happen to also have a TV that seems to have been designed with no thought for widescreen transmissions.

  • Youview Box

    Signed up with BT almost two years ago , i recieved a Youview box , its been fine until i signed up again for a further 18 months.
    The Box has started playing up now , if the TV is off all day , it takes a good ten minutes before the picture is watchable when knocked on , also the delay when changing channels is unreal , seems to take an eternity.
    Any help appreciated

    Hi
    Presuming your broadband etc are all working without issue then try turning it off on the box/at the wall, waiting for 20 seconds then turning it on again. Then switch on the box with the remote and after it has restarted leave it alone for another 30 seconds to give it a chance to finish booting up; this clears the majority of minor issues.
    If that doesnt work then please come back and one of the gurus will step in.

  • G4 Youview box overheating

    I have upgraded from an original BT vision box to the G4 purely to watch motogp direct on the tv not on ipad / laptop etc.
    I find that after approximately 3 hours viewing the sound starts to break up , this gradually gets worse .
    On inspecting the cable connections etc I found the box to be very hot, simply applying the hose from the vacuum cleaner and drawing cool air through the unit restores the sound.
    Is this a common problem with the G4 unit and has anyone else tried cooling the unit to resolve other problems ?

    I received my G4 Youview box just over a week ago. I have noted that if the box is on and in use for a prolonged period the TV signal breaks up on any channel. Rebooting the box cures the problem. I have today resited the box to see if this eradicates the issue. The box does get quite hot with prolonged use.
    The last time the picture broke up I tried putting the box into standby and switched to the built in Freeview in my TV. This worked without problem but switching back to the Youview box resulted in picture break up. Only rebooting seemed to cure the issue.
    I have exactly the same problem - I have mine set to Low-eco mode and after a week or two I start to get picture breakup - switching it off and on then cures the problem for a while. Putting the G4 into standby doesn't fix the problem - it has to be a cold reboot.
    Have you tried cooling the unit ?
    It cured the sound breakup problem immediately only for it to return again the following day after 3 or 4 hours viewing, again, cooling the unit cured the fault immediately.
    My replacement unit is working fine, so I think the original was faulty.

  • BT Youview+ Box questions

    I need a new PVR, would be grateful for help on BT's latest box...
    Can you get Youtube on it?
    Does downloading BBC Iplayer, Youtube, count towards my monthly Broadband usage?
    If I record programs via aerial and Freeview tuner in the box, they will then be sitting on the box's hard drive. Is there any way to move them off the hard drive to an external device e.g. USB stick, to archive them?
    Does engineer install box or self-install?
    Never had a BT TV product before - thinking of £5 per month TV Essential package 12 months contract. £35 activation charge and I think £6.95 p&p for the box. Am currently on Standard Broadband but changing to Infinity when engineer arrives in January.
    Thanks for any advice.

    No.

    No. Data used by the BT Youview box does not count towards a BT Broadband monthly allowance.
    If I record programs via aerial and Freeview tuner in the box, they will then be sitting on the box's hard drive. Is there any way to move them off the hard drive to an external device e.g. USB stick, to archive them?
    No. The content providers are very keen to protect their material and modern PVR's are becoming more and more locked down. The USB slot is only used for an external keyboard as far as I can remember.
    Does engineer install box or self-install?
    Normally self-install. Three input cables - power, TV aerial, and ethernet from BTHomeHub. Two output cables - HDMI or SCART to TV, and optional aerial pass-through to TV.
    If you need some help or would like a long ethernet cable installed then you can ask for a BT TV engineer installation. I believe it is normally £35. If you need a TV aerial installed it costs a separate £120 and requires a separate appointment by a partner of BT.

    If you wait until after Infinity is activated the BT web pages should then show the correct BT TV services and offers available to your home with Infinity.
    If you would rather get Infinity and BT TV activated at the same time so the contract start dates line up you might be able to add BT TV to an existing Infinity order. That might also mean you get a BT TV engineer installation for free if required as one engineer will probably set up the lot if notified in advance.
    If you are not sure about needing TV Entertainment then starting off on TV Essential is not a bad idea as you can always upgrade at any time later. BT are always happy to take more money off you! You can still add the free BT Sport Infinity multicast channels to TV Essential.

  • New standard Bt vision box v Youview box

    I am bit confused, I know BT vision is about to start giving Humax Youview box to it subscribers I thought this was to replace the old silver BT vision Boxs howevervier I notice that bt has already started supplying new ( black) BT vision box's. Are the youview box replacing the these black standard  BT visions box or are both types still likely to be supplied. If the later what do you get on the black standard Bt vision that you can not get on the youview box?

    The 1st generation BT Vision box was the grey one you refer to.
    The 2nd generation BT Vision black box has been in use for a few years now.
    There are suggestions that BT are testing a 3rd generation BT Vision HD box, but this is still under development and there are no official details on that yet.
    The BT Youview HD box will be a separate thing. It is not designed to replace the BT Vision boxes. It gives those who want to make use of other non-BT Youview services an option to do that. However the BT Vision services via Youview will not be as comprehensive as those provided via the official BT Vision boxes.
    See this BT help page.
    BT Youview v BT Vision
    Also see this previous thread discussing the differences.
    Bt-vision-2-vs-you-view
    Personally I don't really see the point of BT having their own branded Youview box. If people want a Youview box they can just go and choose one from those on offer in the shops. As far as I know Sky have no plans to create a Sky branded Youview box, yet they will still offer services on Youview. But who am I to say.

  • New YouView box seems to cause wireless to stop wo...

    I recently upgraded to a YouView box for my TV. The things is, since I've installed this, it seems to cut out the wireless connection to other devices in my home. (In particular, my wireless printer and windows phone.)
    When I reset the Hub, the printer then works fine for a while but my phone doesn't and it's not long until I have to reset the whole thing again because it's stopped working.
    I've tried moving the Hub further away from the YouView box and closer to the printer but it doesn't help. All worked perfectly before I got the YouView box, I never needed to reset the Hub at all.
    I hope someone can help? Many thanks in anticipation!

    Hi Pauline85,
    Thanks for posting. Have you tried changing the wireless channel? Take a look at How do I change the wireless channel on my BT Home Hub? and let us know how you get on.

  • In keynote - Leather Book theme - is there a way to remove the artwork in the middle of the cover page (between the two text boxes) (the squiggly thing)??

    I am trying to create a poster - in Keynote - transferring it to PDF then to JPEG so I can print it - and while I like the background in this Keynote theme (leather book) I can't seem to remove the artwork that is positioned between the two text boxes. Does anyone know how??? Can it even be done?

    I somehow ended up on creating a new master slide. I can FINALLY access the artwork - it has a box around it of x's - but I can't seem to do anything. Delete doesn't work. Trying to shrink the box doesn't work. I'm not getting a dialog box when I click on it that is specific to the x'ed area. It pertains to the full background page. I'm obviously missing something - the fact that I have never been in Keynote before may have something to do with it! :-)

  • How can I turn off Recently Websites when opening new Safari window? After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed.

    How can I turn off Recently Visited Websites when opening new Safari window?
    After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed. How can I turn this function off? I do NOT want my new Safari windows to have history displayed of previous websites I visited. I only want my Favorites (on the top) to be displayed. Please help.
    Thank you for your time, patience, understanding, kindness, and concern.

    Thanks for replying, but that isn't the answer I am looking for.  Also, there is no + sign, UNLESS you do tap the overlapping boxes.
    Let me try to ask my question a little more clearly:
    When I tap the two overlapping boxes on the lower left (the option to Open New Windows), the new Window that appears will show your Bookmarked FAVORITES. But with my new iPhone 6, and the new iOS 8.0.2, when I tap the two boxes to open a New Window, my Bookmark Favorites show (as they always have and should), but below them, there is a dividing line underneath them, and it says Recently Viewed Websites, and has these websites available to tap.
    So my question is, HOW DO I TURN THESE OPTION OFF?
    *UPDATE  (10.13.14): Since I have asked this question, I no longer see these Recently Viewed Websites under my Bookmarked Favorites in my new Window tabs. So I hope that Apple fixed it, or somehow it was a mistake, or somehow I changed an Option on my iPhone 6 that stopped this for reoccurring.
    Thank you for your help bobseufert! I appreciate your concern, kindness, and the time to try to help. I am grateful.
    Have a blessed day.

  • How to focus two text boxes at a time?

    Hi,
    I am developing a packet analyzer software. In that, I need to focus two text boxes as I select a treeview item.
    I am using a following code:
    delegate void voiDelegate();
    private void click(object sender, RoutedPropertyChangedEventArgs<object> e)
    TreeViewItem t;
    t =(TreeViewItem) tvMain.SelectedItem;
    StackPanel s = (StackPanel)t.Header;
    List<TextBlock> l = new List<TextBlock>(3);
    foreach (TextBlock children in s.Children)
    l.Add(children);
    string ch = l[3].Text;
    string[] sp = ch.Split('-');
    int te = Convert.ToByte(sp[1]) - Convert.ToByte(sp[0]) + 1;
    PacketDisplay1.SelectionStart = PacketDisplay2.SelectionStart = Convert.ToByte(sp[0]);
    PacketDisplay1.SelectionLength= PacketDisplay2.SelectionLength = te;
    voiDelegate giveFocusDelegate = new voiDelegate(giveFocus);
    Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(giveFocusDelegate, new object[] { });
    private void giveFocus()
    PacketDisplay1.Focus();
    PacketDisplay2.Focus();
    but here I am able to focus only on second Textbox. I need to focus on both textboxes. How can I achieve this?
    My requirement is like this
    thank you.

    The documentation is pretty clear on this: There can be only one
    element on the whole desktop that has keyboard focus:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa969768%28v=vs.110%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396.
    There is logical focus and there is keyboard focus. There can be multiple elements that have logical focus in an application but only a single element can have keyboard focus. Please refer to the link above for details.
    If you want to highlight text in two different TextBoxes at the same time, you could replace the TextBox elements with RichTextBox elements, and set the background of a text range. Please refer to the following thread for more information about how you could
    do this:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18015380/how-can-i-change-the-selected-text-background-color-in-rich-text-box-wpf-c-sharp
    Here is an example for you:
    public partial class Window6 : Window
    private static TextPointer GetTextPointAt(TextPointer from, int pos)
    TextPointer ret = from;
    int i = 0;
    while ((i < pos) && (ret != null))
    if ((ret.GetPointerContext(LogicalDirection.Backward) == TextPointerContext.Text) || (ret.GetPointerContext(LogicalDirection.Backward) == TextPointerContext.None))
    i++;
    if (ret.GetPositionAtOffset(1, LogicalDirection.Forward) == null)
    return ret;
    ret = ret.GetPositionAtOffset(1, LogicalDirection.Forward);
    return ret;
    internal string Select(RichTextBox rtb, int offset, int length, Color color)
    // Get text selection:
    TextSelection textRange = rtb.Selection;
    // Get text starting point:
    TextPointer start = rtb.Document.ContentStart;
    // Get begin and end requested:
    TextPointer startPos = GetTextPointAt(start, offset);
    TextPointer endPos = GetTextPointAt(start, offset + length);
    // New selection of text:
    textRange.Select(startPos, endPos);
    // Apply property to the selection:
    textRange.ApplyPropertyValue(TextElement.BackgroundProperty, new SolidColorBrush(color));
    // Return selection text:
    return rtb.Selection.Text;
    public Window6()
    InitializeComponent();
    //set text
    PacketDisplay1.Document.Blocks.Clear();
    PacketDisplay1.Document.Blocks.Add(new Paragraph(new Run("some text....")));
    PacketDisplay2.Document.Blocks.Clear();
    PacketDisplay2.Document.Blocks.Add(new Paragraph(new Run("some other text....")));
    //set background
    this.Select(this.PacketDisplay1, 0, 4, SystemColors.HighlightBrush.Color); //select "some"
    this.Select(this.PacketDisplay2, 0, 4, SystemColors.HighlightBrush.Color); //select "some"
    There is no way to achieve this by simply selecting text in two different TextBoxes and there is no way to set the background of a text range in a ordinary TextBox so you must use a RichTextBox here.
