Tx 2000 tablet PC overheating. HP refuses to help me.

I have an HP tx 2000 tablet PC with AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-60 2.00 GHz. I am running Windows Vista 32 Bit SP1.
My laptop has been reaching temps of 80 degrees C and sometimes even higher. This is with only one program (IE or Firefox open and running). The idle temp is around 50 C.
I have sent my laptop back to HP several times due to these temperatures. The last time they sent it back they included a letter saying that when they ran a benchmark test, the temps were 78 and 80 and those temperatures are normal.
There have been a few times when my laptop has gotten so hot that I actually burned my hand when I accidentally touched the bottom.
So, are these temps really normal? I honestly cannot see how they would be, as 80 deg C = 176 deg F, and that is the temperature that you are supposed to cook lamb to. And 130 deg F can burn skin. How can they say this is normal for a laptop that you are supposed to be able to hold in your hand when you use it in its tablet form?

Dude, HP is NOT here to help you in or OUT of warranty. my HP desktop just crashed the other day, and I was on the phone for half an hour basically to be told that they don't care and I have to spend 50 bucks to get any kind of help.
Anyway, on to your laptop. That is a fairly normal temperature, sadly. You gotta make sure the bottom is ventilated. That means it's a bad idea to have it sitting on a bed or couch or your lap. It needs a hard surface so there is room for air flow. I'm sure you already know, but you do have to make sure that corner fan has good clearance too. I had terrible luck with the TX2000z. it woul completely freeze whenever it wasn't plugged in, and a lot of the time when it was plugged in. It took about 3 tries sending it to CA for the case manager to finally decide that wiping the hard drive clean was NOT going to fix the problem. She sent it back to replace the motherboard/CPU...and they totally ignored the order and wiped the stupid hard drive again...twice actually. so after about 3 months of having no laptop while in college, they finally sent me a brand new TX2, which has been working quite well since I got it. The HDD fried, but they fixed that right up for me. I am just really starting to doubt HP's ability to build computers that DON'T have problems since my desktop broke pretty precisely on its birthday....

  • Lost Experia Z2 tablet wifi, customer service refuses to help, please advise..........

A Z2 tablet and accessories is what I am disputing here. At this point, I request that a member of Sony management handle this complaint. The color of the Z2 is black.
First, I did not place the order for this unit, it was evidently a gift. Because Sony did not put the original packing/tracking/gift slip in the box, I have no record of an order number, nor do I know who it is from or what name the order would be in. This would have been a birthday gift. I come from a huge family and still, 3 weeks later, I cannot track down who sent it.
The original box was delivered to me damaged and the screen on the tablet was cracked. I followed your procedure and immediately called customer service, they gave me an RMA # to return it and an return address in Laredo, TX. I did not write down the return tracking number because it was a preaddressed, prepaid electronic label. The rep. assured me that she would make arrangements for the overnight shipment to me of a new one, but 2 weeks later now, that has never happened. I no longer have the serial number to give them because that is imprinted on the unit. And now mysteriously customer service can find no record of the RMA/prepaid label that they issued, nor can they find the return now. I did exactly what they said and wrote the RMA # on the outside of the box to insure that Sony got proper credit for the broken unit. I even called a week after shipping to make sure you got the unit back and repair confirmed receipt of the tablet. But, like I said, no one can find record of this transaction. When I call back in to customer service, they demand and order name and the purchasers name, but Sony never put that in the box. So Sony is asking me now for information that I don't have, and information that they should have recorded properly. I understand that things can happen in transit, but I should not continue to be penalized for Sony's mistakes. Not to mention the fact that these are very, very devious business practices, plus you are not standing behind your return policy or warranty procedures. Plus customer service has gotten down right rude with me - I find their attitudes very abrupt and demanding, with no logical understanding of what I'm saying. So Ely, I'm to the end of my rope on this. I am going to give Sony one more chance to make this right. I will give the Sony Store until this coming Friday to deliver me a new tablet/accessories. If I do not have everything by Friday, then I'm simply going to file a formal complaint with the Attorney General. I do not want to do that, but I'm not going to get ripped off with no new tablet. Someone paid good money for this and I do expect a new replacement. If Sony cannot verify their own information, then I consider it Sony's loss and not mine. My shipping address and email is available if you message me privately.
Thank you and I will await the new tablet/accessories. I appreciate your willingness to help me.

    @CrisisKids
I'm sorry to hear this but if you sent the tablet through UPS or even regular USPS you should have that receipt and it has warranty, as long as you can prove what you sent it's worth that amount. you should also have a tracking number and you will know when it was delivered.

  • My copy of Photoshop still does not work properly, and support refuses to help me.

    From my previous thread:
I can't actually get photoshop to go into the image editor. The program launches just fine, I can open up any dialogs such as preferences, but when I try to open something or start a new file, nothing happens. No error message either. If I click File -> New, I get the dialog to choose the dimensions, and then if I press OK, nothing happens. Same goes for opening something, if I press File -> Open (or anything similar, such as opening a recent file), I get the dialog to choose a file, and then nothing happens. I can only get it to work on the first launch after a system restart, if I close it and reopen it, there is a chance that it will break and I will have to restart my computer. I have attempted the following to fix it:
    -Clear settings
    -Reinstall
    -Start new administrator profile
None of the above has worked, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
This has been going on since I've purchased it. I have tried many things, including uninstalling every program installed before photoshop (anything that could have possibly caused it to break). This problem even survived a hard drive reformatting, as I had the same issue on my previous OS. It works fine on my macbook, but my Windows 8 computer is the one I prefer to use, and that is the one photoshop doesn't work on. I have called support multiple times, and they kept telling me that they would escalate my problem, but they never actually tried anything new, and eventually they stopped responding to me. I am now on my own from support's help, as they have outright refused to help me. I posted a thread on the photoshop subreddit, and they told me to post here, which shortly after posting it was ignored. I cannot believe that this level of refusing to help can even exist in such a large company, and I'm seriously considering demanding a refund for my entire subscription as this is disregarding a major issue (which I apperently am not the only one, and the others are also being ignored by support). So, as a final attempt of actually fixing this, could someone please see if they know what to do?

    Welp, here's the dxdiag.

Bootcamp - Seems there is no Support from Microsoft  for Windows 8.1, once it is loaded.
I Just got off the Microsoft Technical Help line (Australia ph132058) and they refused to help me because I am running Win 8.1 in Bootcamp.
I have the latest Mac Book Pro Retina with a 1TB Solid State Hard drive running Win 8.1, beautiful machine, but its slower than my old MBP running windows 7 on a standard Drive.
The niggiling problem is that it seems to hang up for seven or 8 seconds on menial tasks........ like generating a new Folder or Note etc. Otherwise it runs reasonably well but not blindingly fast....
I wasn't aware Microsoft refused to help win 8.1 users on the Mac Platform........ shouldn't this Information be made more public...! Seems they are keen to drive potential Windows users away!!
Any suggestions on where I should go for help on this (Windows/Bootcamp in General) would be much appreciated ? ........ don't mind paying a reasonable price if the service is good......
I guess the wheel has turned and Microsoft are having a go at Apple again...?
    Many thanks ....... Martin V

    Thanks Turbostar.
I was thinking along the same lines. I installed Win 8.0 Pro and upgraded to 8.1 ........ probably a bad move.
I have bought a new 8.1 Licence but cant risk doing a complete reinstall until I have a back up machine ready. (My old MBP is getting a new hard drive) ......... so will give that a go in about a weeks time when the back up is in place. Cant risk having nothing!
When you say "Clean Install" ..... do you mean everything ..... as in Reformat the Bootcamp sector and start from scratch.?
I have a 2 TB LaCie Thunderbolt drive with my back up data on ..... is there a way to make the Reinstall process and large amount of Data transfer easy?
The reinstall is something I need to read up on. I was hoping the solution might be some kind of Tune up on the SSHD.
Good to hear you have a number of MBP's that are flying, I would be disappointed if the final quality wasnt a bit better.
..... do you have any tips on screen Res on the Retina ..... I am running Windows at 125% Zoom, but the Bluetooth, power, wireless, Date Icons etc are all still tiny ...... could really do with an alternative to the old "Advanced Appearance Settings"
    cheers ..... Martin V

  • ITunes - Fraudulent account activity, Apple refusing to help

Got 2 email receipts from iTunes last night, for 2 gift cards, one for £25 and one for £75.
Logged into my iTunes account via iTunes and there they were in my purchase history, sent to some unknown hotmail address.
Removed my card details and changed my password.
Contacted iTunes through their email support to get Apple to cancel those gift cards and issue a refund.
Got a reply in 90 minutes with an offer of 5 song credits and a clear "we cannot refund your card" along with a "contact your financial institution".
After another 3 emails form me, and 3 back from Apple I'm still left with the same line "we cannot refund your card". Sent them one more email last night which has so far been ignored.
Contacted the bank this morning only to be told they can't do anything as it's a checking account not a credit card(!) They informed me that it is Apple's responsibility to refund the money as it is down to them to ensure the transactions are authorised.
I'm heading down to the bank to fill out a charge back claim form which they will send to Apple but that's all they can do...
    This is beyond ridiculous.
    1) There should be a phone number for the iTunes store at least for fraudulent account activity.
    2) Apple, like any other company CAN refund money to a card, saying they "cannot" is a downright lie.
    3) Apple must be in breach of every consumer trading law in the UK (I use the UK store) with this policy.
    4) I use a secure password, I use trusted networks and no-one has access to my Mac. How the **** did the hacker get in?
    5) What should I do when both Apple and the bank refuse to help? To be honest I'm not annoyed at the bank as it's not their fault. This is a security breach of Apple's system and they're liable in my opinion.
I've bought 700 items through iTunes since it started and this is how they treat me. Well no more. That gravy train is over for them.
And don't get me started on the thousands upon thousands of pounds I've spent on Apple hardware and software...

    Thanks for the info.
Annoyingly the rep in question (someone called Judy) refuses to escalate the issue to somene who can look into this and perform the refund.
This is absolutely ridiculous, you're basically left with no-one to talk to (she/they are now ignoring my follow-up emails) , I've never seen anything like it. I've heard bad things about the likes of Paypal and eBay but Apple seem keen to add themselves to the list of sites not to trust due to a complete lack of customer service and boilerplate responses. Heck, Im sure last year (or it may be this coming Jan 1st) UK law changed to require online retailers to post their telephone number on the site...
This useless rep is quoting me US Federal Law when I'm using the UK iTunes store and the terms and conditions on there clearly state that the transaction is covered under UK law...
And UK law says they have to refund me.
I've dealt with Apple for years, I've used the AppleCare helpline and the Genius bar many times and every time service has been A1. I'm genuinely amazed that this type of customer service goes on on the iTunes store... And especially about such a serious issue.

  • Photos not working--apple refuses to help me--wait till you hear why!

So on my new classic, half of my photos don't show up properly--it seems to be any photo I took w/ my Digital Rebel XT. They show up in the iPod-slowing menu animations...every thumbnail shows up in the thumbnail list...but when I view the album, they just show up as black slides. I can scroll thru the album and if non-Digital Rebel photos are in the same folder, they show up fine. Every single photo worked perfectly fine on my 5G.
So I call Apple and explain the problem. And they tell me they are unable to help me with this because the photos I'm using could have been pirated. They could get in serious trouble if they help me figure out what's wrong. They said the photos feature should be considered an "unsupported feature" and they can only assist with syncing photos.
I said you're joking. People play pirated music on their iPods way more than they pirate photos. If I had called because music wouldn't play on the iPod, does that mean they'd refuse to help me? She told me that they would only be able to help me if it were iTunes store purchased music that wouldn't play.
She suggested I visit the Apple website and the discussion boards and try to figure out why it's not working. SO HERE I AM, does anybody know why this may be happening? To recap: it seems to be photos from the Digital Rebel, they show up in all menu animations and as thumbnails, and they displayed perfectly on my 5G iPod.

Thanks for letting me know someone else's work.
sRGB is Standard RGB right? If so, then according to Explorer, my photos are too. I also just tried changing something to Apple RGB thru Photoshop...it didn't work either.
I also don't have the full versions on the iPod, but I tried it both ways--they didn't work either way.
I agree that it seems unlikely this is a problem plaguing everyone. What I dont get though is why the same photos play just fine on my 5G, and even show up in the menu animations on the 6G. I'm using the exact same computer, exact same setup for both iPods. Ugh...so frustrating!!
Is it possible the iPod could just be defective? That doesn't feel like the problem here, but iono...? I've also been experiencing the slow menus and pauses some of us are discussing in another thread, but that seems to have improved as I keep using it.
    Thanks
    Zach

Time machine makes whirring noise 24 hours a day. Orange light often flashes. Does not appear to be overheating. Can you help?

First: Are you wearing/regularly checking your radiation badge?
Second: What does the little Time Machine icon (in the menubar) say when you click on it?  Alternatively, what does Time Machine Preferences (in System Preferences) tell you is going on?

Your problem might be a easy fix.
If the firmware "forgets" what partition it's supposed to boot from, it won't load OS X, so if OS X doesn't load then it can't tell the fans to slow down, the default is "turbo mode".
So all you might have to do is hold the option/alt key down while booting the computer with a charged up battery on power, you will then see a row of icons and you pick OS X to boot from.
Once in you head to System Preferences and set the Startup Disk, that will tell the firmware what to boot from again.
Try it and see if it works.
You can do more if your problem is not fixed.

Yes, if it was purchased new you have a 1 year warranty, despite who you bought it from (unless it's stolen goods)
However you should purchase AppleCare while your in the store for another 2 more years of coverage also a backup drive for TimeMachine to protect your data.

  • Stuck in apple logo, live in bahrain, carrier refuse to help, apple can't help

i have purchased an iphone 6 from a small retail shop in my country -Bahrain- who gave me a one year software warranty.
unfortunatly the iphone went to stuck in the apple logo and i have tried to restore it but i couldn't even in dfu or recovery mode.
when i went to that shop he told me this is a hardware issue and I can't help, i went to imachine -authorized apple service center in bahrain- but they couldn't help me out because they are not authorized to fix iphone devices, i went to my carier and they refused to help me bacause i didn't buy the phone from them, so i have called us apple support and they told me to get back to my carier and ask them to fix it and this is the only option they have for me Because the phone was purchased and activated in Bahrain.
    any advice is appreciated

Apple gives 1 year software and hardware warranty, so if you could go to an Apple Store in a near country to your's, they would solve this.
"because they are not authorized to fix iphone devices": try an authorized service center that can repair iPhones.
" i went to my carier and they refused to help me bacause i didn't buy the phone from them" : that's understandable.
Unfortunately, if you have no apple Support in your country and the retail shop is crappy, there is hardly anything to do...

  • Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard refuses to ...

I'm trying to upgrade the OS on my Nokia 770 since the existing software is so out of date I can hardly use it to go online anymore. I downloaded the Update Wizard from the nokia site and have been trying for days to get it to find my 770 to perform the update. I even found videos of the process on youtube to make sure I was using it correctly and I am. But the Wizard always says it cannot find the device even though it is working properly and shows up on the USB bus and other programs can find it and I can transfer files to it.
I've contact Nokia tech support and their only solution was to reinstall the software which I've done for the fourth time today and still not working. I really don't want to sell my 770 but if I can't update the software I'm gonna have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Network Connection Was Refused - PLEASE help me this time...

To be perfectly honest, I'm quite irritated. I want answers. And if there is no answer, I want someone to tell me such. I've posted three times before, twice on someone else's topic, and once on my own. This is my last ditch effort. PLEASE help me. I really enjoy the use of your product, and I don't want to give up on it.
Many people are having issues with their network connection. I know I'm not the only one. Some diagnostics say the connection to iTunes works, but for some reason still won't open the music store. In my case, it says it isn't.
I went to my parents' house this holiday and stole their broadband high speed internet connection, hoping that the new connection might make iTunes work. Nope. So now I'm fresh out of ideas.
Here is the information I posted on an earlier post below. PLEASE help me answer my question. I'm really missing my iTunes. It's been a long time since I've had it, and there are a bunch of songs I plan to download if I am able to get it back. Thank you so much!
I downloaded the newest version of iTunes, without realizing that there were so many problems with it. The installation went off without a hitch, and it was able to open up my library. However, whenever I try to access the music store, the message "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was refused. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again" appeared. I tried redownloading it, but that didn't solve the problem. I got frustrated, and finally was able to download 7.01. That didn't work either. So I downloaded the older version that I used to have. The same error message appeared. NOW I'm mad, because I can't even get the older version back. I want my older version back... I never had a problem with your products before, but right now I'm slowly losing faith. PLEASE help me.
I can't run a diagnostics on my network connection anymore, but I had posted my first diagnostics on the old post, referencing back to when I was still trying to fix the newest version. I'll post the diagnostics below the post.
I have a wireless connection, since I live in an apartment complex right now. I didn't have the same connection type when I first downloaded iTunes a year or more ago, but I was able to work iTunes under this connection before I uploaded.
Please help me. I want my music store back.

  • T500 overheating problems - Novice needs help

Like for some others in this forum, my Thinkpad T500 is overheating.
    Here are my specs:
    Model: T500   (Type:  2055)
    Processor:  P8600 (2.40GHz)
GPU:  ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
When I'm doing most regular activities (browsing, emailing, documents), laptop is fine.  The unit gets warm underneath, but I've not had problems.
If I'm doing more intensive activities (watching local video,Netflix, or Skyping), laptop starts to heat up enough so that it's uncomfortable on my lap.
When I play games (Nothing crazy intensive:  e.g. Minecraft, Civilization 4),  and sometimes when I Skype, the unit gets extremely hot underneath and shuts off without warning.
The heat seems to be originating from the left-hand side of the laptop, near the back.  Unless I'm mistaken, this is where the GPU is located.  And this makes sense, since the overheating seems to be related to graphics-intensive activities.
    So, my questions are:
     1.  How can I diagnose this problem further?   What's a good utility to use to monitor heat of GPU and CPU?  Anything else I can use ?
    2.  Are there any settings I can change on my laptop to prevent the automatic shut-downs and excessive heat?
    3.  I've seen some mention of people cleaning fans, replacing fans / cooling units, or adding thermal paste.  Need some advice there too.
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thank you!

Good day and welcome to the community.
If you've never had the machine open to blow out dust from around the fan/heatsink assembly, I'd recommend that first. If you download a copy of your Hardware Manual: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6630_04.pdf , you'll see that by pulling the palmrest, keyboard and keyboard bezel (manual pages 88-90, 92-93 and 102-103, respectively), that you'll expose the top side of the assembly in the upper left. The top view image on page 107 is helpful. The CPU is beneath the end section of the wider heatpipe and the GPU is beneath the narrower.
While holding the blades of the fan stationary (important!), you can use canned air to blow all of the dust from the inside out through the exhaust vents. Once done, button everything up and see if things run cooler. If you're still overheating, you may need to clean off the old thermal compound and apply new, but try the de-dusting first.
Regarding temp monitoring, many folks like TPFanControl: http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html
Scroll about 2/3 down the page for the download link for v0.62 which is the latest. It can be run in monitor-only mode or can be configured to provide a level of control over your fan speed.
Please post back your results from the first step and we can go from there.
    Regards.

  • Loud fan / overheating G5 - can anyone help?

Hi - My iMac was fine until I used Toast. After burning a couple of discs very quickly it kept turning itself off. I looked at the log, and it had been overheating. I haven't tried burning any more discs, but the machine is now very noisy, even when just turned on. It also turned itself off when I tried to ftp some files from one of my websites.
I got the iStat widget, and these are the readings:
    HD 38
    CPU 80
    GPU 42
    GPU ambiant 47
incoming air 30 (the temperature in the room is 18 degrees centigrade)
    mem.controller 71
mem. controler 59 (two of these)
    Fans: rpm
    optiical drive 1384
    CPU 3600
    HD 1626
I was given a link for instructions to reset the smu:
    resset smu http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
First time I tried it the computer turned itself straight off again after being turned on. I tried agtain, and it is on after 20 minutes, but still noisy. The figure for the CPU using iStat is still 3600 although the other figures have gone down a little.
Can anyone tell me what is the next step?

The G5 iMacs have had problems with the capacitors and the power supply, but since you have the iSight, it's no easy matter to open. I suggest you take it in to Apple and have them open it and check the caps on the logic board and the power supply. If the logic board needs replacing, it can be quite expensive and you'll have to decide whether it's economically justified.

  • Migration Complete - SQL Server 2000 - But I Have a Question - Please Help

I just ran the Oracle Migration workbench and converted a SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle 8i. I did get a few errors and warnings, all from the stored procedures. Which I will correct manually. However, when I log into DBA Studio, I can see the new tablespace for my converted database under storage. But theres nothing under the schema. Do I have to create this in order to manipulate the database. I wanna be able to modify some of the tables and stored procedures, but all I see in DBA Studio is the tabelspace for the converted database.
I hope someone can help me with this.
    Thanks

If your migration was sucessfull, then the schema's would also have been created on the target Oracle environment. You can go back to the Workbench and check the oracle model, to determine what schema(s) would be created. You can also check the log, or run a report to determine any errors during the migration phase.
