TX Battery Drainage/Soft Resets

After a long association with Palm handhelds I have a major problem with TX rapid battery drain every few hours, crashing, and continuous soft resets required to restart this defective product. I use no bluetooth, no wifi. Phone support denies this is a common problem, yet the help forum is full of users with similar experience. I performed a hard reset and the unit functions fine - without any of my data in it. This indicates the operating system cannot handle the software and data in common use on the device. I have used Palm VII and Palm Zire 71 with the same software setup. The TX cannot handle the same software used on my other models. The only software I added are ereader, Vindigo, and an upgrade to the calculator. I disabled all security. These problems persist. What is the best thing to do? Switch brands? Please advise. My unit is less than 6 months old.

The whole six month nightmare seems over. The darn thing is working like it is supposed to for five days now! I need to thank the folks who responded to me so quickly here on the forum. Thank you so much. I appreciate your intelligent feedback. The first hard info I received, no thanks to palm's non-existent invisible off-shore tech suppport team.
BUT here's what happened: My TX is working perfectly after only doing a hard reset for two days, then syncing as usual with no fiddling with the backup file or changing software. A mystery for sure. But Saturday I synced as usual, and I just put my TX on the charger now (Wednesday) for the first time since. Before I was recharging daily. No crashes. No resets. I did two regular syncs in all. And prior, it was a marginal device to connect to the internet even from my home wireless network. Now it is hooking up much more easily and faster.
I literally do not have a clue what happened. But this unit was not working properly for five months. Today it works as intended, and expected. The second sync was not normal. It reloaded all my books again onto my chip which my usual syncs do not do, so I may not be out of the woods yet. I'll take it day by day.  Thanks again for the input. I feel I have a plan to implement if the unit goes squirrely again.

  • IPad 2 Will Not Charge with Apple Charger, Soft Reset, Full Restore, etc. Advice is greatly appreciated!

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you in advance for your help.
I have an iPad 2, which was purchased online in May 2012. My iPad will not charge - the upper right-hand corner shows a charging symbol, but the iPad does not gain power. I have tried the following:
Charging the iPad with the APPLE USB cable and APPLE wall plug provided with the iPad in several different wall outlets
Charging with another, alternate apple cable (in case the apple cable I was using wasn't working)
Charging with an non-apple cable and plug into a wall socket
Charging the iPad with an apple cable into my Mac
Charging the iPad into a non-apple laptop
Performing a soft reset, by pushing the home button and power key down until the iPad reset (tried this several times, before and after full restore)
Performing a full restore, which involved updating my iPad to version 6.0, wiping the iPad clean, and then restoring it from a back-up (tried this several times)
Charging the iPad while completely powered off
Letting the iPad completely die, and then charging it - it took me several weeks to get any power back and for the red charging symbol to go away - I did this by leaving it plug into my non-mac laptop for several days, after which it finally charged it back to 14%, showing the "Not Charging symbol" the whole time.
Removing my case off the iPad (in case the case was blocking the proper insertion of the USB cable)
Blowing on the iPad port to remove blockage from dust, etc.
At this point, I'm not sure what else I can try. I combed the support threads thoroughly to ensure I didn't miss any other options, but I am hoping someone else may have thought of something I didn't try. I know that the fastest way to charge the iPad is to use the 10w USB cable provided by apple, into an outlet. I have tried this several times - it doesn't work. The charging symbol shows up in the right hand upper corner, but the display does not show a charging battery, and the iPad does not increase in charge.
I do not live in a city with an Apple Store, so I am hoping you all can provide me with a solution, as it will be a 10+ hour round trip to get this resolved in person, in store.
Your patience and assistance is appreciated.

When you say " tried to reset it ", does that mean you tried holding down Home and Sleep till the screen went black and a white Apple logo appeared? That usually resets my batteries and lets them reach 100% charge.
If all fails and the device has a few years on it, the battery may very well be dead. Happens to all rechargeables. A trip to the Store for assessment will be inevitable to check the charger, cable and device. And if needed, a battery replacement alternative will be offered.

  • 4G 40GB iPod deleted my songs after a soft reset

I've been resetting my iPod quite often because of skipping, freezing and everybody's favorite - the clicking hard drive. I ran the diagnostic test on it and it passed all phases of it. However, during a soft reset this morning, the iPod turned on as if it had been turned on for the first time - asking to select a language, etc. AND all my songs are off the iPod. Thank God they're still on iTunes on my PC. Any ideas what's up with it? I just ordered a replacement hard drive from eWiz and I plan to replace it once I get it.

    Hi RR29,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Soft Reset? Compared to a Hard Reset?
How exactly did you do it? Curious.
"I just ordered a replacement hard drive from eWiz and I plan to replace it once I get it."
Be careful! I would hate for something awful to happen to your iPod when you change the battery. Are you having battery troubles? Maybe I can help.

  • My iphone 4 will not turn on. I can not soft reset because my home button is broken. Any suggestions?

My iphone 4 suddenly died on me. It had a good amount of battery life left. I cannot soft reset because my home button does not work. Is there a way to reboot without the method of holding the two buttons? I am thinking that letting the battery die will work but I assume it will take a long time since the phone is off. Any other way to get it to turn back on/rest?

Plug it into the wall charger or to your computer with iTunes.

    Is the battery charged?
By factory reset, do you mean you "restored" the iPhone?

    Any suggestions?

Is it frozen?  Sounds like the dreaded "E2 coma" syndrome requiring the battery to be disconnected...

  • Hot battery an battery drainage

i have the 3gs just bought it in may with the update came a hot battery an battery drainage. i dont have anything running in the back ground an i rarely use it now i cannot by any means use it to its full potential like i used to before the update. the battery life is very an i mean very unpredictable. one day after unplugging it from a full charge it went dead in 10 min. an i didnt use it at all. then somedays it lasts 3 hours some 5 some 8 but i cannot use it like i used to. i used to play games when ever i wanted play music an games at same time text an surf the net. now i can only text an that is if the phone is a good day.

Apple provides free telephone support for the first 90 days after the purchase date. After the initial 90 days, AppleCare will request a credit card in case it turns out the problem does not require an exchange under warranty. If it is determined that your iPhone needs to be exchanged under warranty, you will not be charged for the call. Or you can make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.
What is a master reset? I've never heard that term before.
The standard troubleshooting steps in order are power your iPhone off and on, an iPhone reset, restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, and restoring with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If no change after the last step, more than likely your iPhone has a hardware problem.

  • Soft Reset starts, then goes black on time date screen

Unable to turn on my Tungsten E, so I did a soft reset.  The logo comes up and then, only for an instant, the time date screen.  Almost immediately it goes black again.  I've tried several times, and I get the same result.  What could be wrong and how can I correct?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E

Sounds like your battery could use some juice. Try plugging your palm into the wall charger for 3-5 hours. Then try turning it on again.
If it still does not turn on, try the soft reset while it is plugged into the wall charger.

  • My ipod 5 froze and wont work or anything and my home button doesnt work so i cant soft reset or anything does anyone know what to do about this?

my ipod 5 froze and wont work or anything and my home button doesnt work so i cant soft reset or anything does anyone know what to do about this?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Ignore the reset and when it says plae the iPod in Recovery mode
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod won't turn on after Soft Reset?

My 8GB iPod Touch has been lagging and glitching a lot lately. So I did a Soft Reset, and now the black screen with the little silver Apple logo is on there, and stayed there for 30 minutes. If I press any button, it'll go all white and restart the reset.
Now I've waited for about an hour, and it won't turn on. Plus it won't connect to my iTunes if I plug it into my laptop.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

        Oh no Mr.Ected!
I can see if we can get your phone back on! I understand how important it is to have a phone. Have you tried this to see if we can get it back on? http://vz.to/1DZhteH . If it is still goes to a red Verizon screen and then to black we might need to do a master reset. While the phone is off try this:http://vz.to/1DZhXkU Be mindful this is the last resort because it will erase everything on the phone. If you have done back up assistant in the past you will be able to get you contacts back. Please let me know if you need any more help.

If the basics (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) don't work, you'll need to bring the phone to Apple for evaluation
