Tx1000 laptop lid not staying upright?

Recently, the lid hasn't been staying up properly and was falling down sometimes when i moved the laptop, but suddenly it won't stay upright by itself at all. It may be the hinge or something, but i don't really know.
Any ideas or advice, and is it fixable?
Thanks in advance

  • Laptop Lid not opening`

My laptops left hand corner board has come out a bit, such that the hinge cylinders are lifted a bit.
This simple lift does not allow the lid to be opened. The screen'd bottom left corner and the lifted board
hinders each other, such tht the lid cannot be opened.
Is the problem simple enough to be solved at home?

    Hello sudiptahalder,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I hope you enjoy your stay!
I understand the computer lid cannot be lifted normally. To be honest, I would just contact HP phone support. If it easy enough to do over the phone, they can provide the correct instructions. If not, they will just service the computer. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

  • Laptop display not staying on television

I am able to connect my laptop to the television (Sharp Aquos) and choose to have the presentation display on the laptop and tv at the same time. After 3 to 5 minutes, the setting reverts to laptop only. Not only is this annoying, but it looks unprofessional. How can I fix this so the display stays in one mode until I want it to change?

The other thing you will want to check out is your HDMI cable.  If this problem is happening after a few minutes it could be due to signal problems.
The next step is to boot your system into safe and remove the graphics driver.
Then reinstall the driver from the HP support site for your notebook.

  • Macbook (4,1) "/" key not working, and the laptop will not stay off.

Yesterday my macbook keyboard and trackpad stopped working suddenly. I was in the middle of something so I plugged in a nearby usb keyboard and mouse and kept working. I shut down my machine and tried to turn it back on. Nothing happened.
An hour later I tried again to power it on. This time it worked, however my "/" key doesn't do anything, and when I shut down the computer it powers right back on.
I bought the laptop in early 2008, early 2009 Apple replaced the top part of the case and the hard disk under warranty. My question is; what are my options for getting this fixed without paying $$$? Will Apple be helpful here since it appears their replacement part is malfunctioning?

Items replaced under warranty repair are typically only covered as far as the original warranty term. Still, I would take it in and have it checked as it sounds like there is either a loose connector or fault in the keyboard assembly.

I just bought a new laptop and my ipod nano will not stay connected to my computer. When I first connect the ipod it starts to sync on my ipod but not on itunes. The ipod is initially connected to my computer, I can see it when I look on devices in my computer. However, when it finishes syncing it is no longer detected to my computer. I cannot transfer any of my songs to my new laptop because of this. I have tried to reinstall itunes, reset my ipod and use a different port. None of these things worked. Any ideas?

  • WRT54G v.5 will not stay connected to new laptop/Windows 7 Premium

WRT54G v.5 will not stay connected to new laptop/Windows 7 Premium. It continuously runs through a cycle of detecting, connecting, losing connection; detecting, connecting, losing connection, etc. A the router runs through this cycle, basically acting as if I have disconnected then reconnected to power to reset it, it disrupts my Internet connection to both my wired iMac and other, wireless desktop upstairs. Paid for Linksys support today and through remote access he set up a new network on my desktop (iMac). After he finished, the problem still existed. When I told him the problem hadn't been fixed,  he told me just wait for an hour or so and it should work itself out. It, of course, did not work itself out. Any ideas out there?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Never mind-I seem to have fixed the problem with a simple firmware upgrade. Funny how the Linksys support technician didn't think to ask what version of the router I have or suggest that I should try upgrading the firmware first. He was, however, quite good at trying to upsell me to a new router instead of trying to help me fix the problem I was having. Makes me want to go buy Netgear next time, thank you very much!

  • [SOLVED] Power button and laptop lid close rules not followed (KDE)

I'm using KDE 4.9.1, and the rules I set for the power button and lid close events in the KDE power management settings are not followed.
Currently, I have the power button press event set to trigger hibernation, and the lid close event set to turn off the display. Instead, the power button causes the laptop to power down immediately, as if the 'poweroff' command was issued. Closing the lid causes the system to suspend to ram.
This problem seemed to have started when I installed 'laptop-mode-tools' and 'acpid'. The problem persisted even when I uninstalled the said packages from the system. Most solutions on the internet involve adjusting the contents of files in /etc/acpi/, but that directory does not exist on my system. I also tried deleting the power management configuration files in the ~/.kde4/share/config directory, but that didn't fix the problem either.
Hibernation works if I choose 'hibernate' from the KDE menu.
    Thanks for any help.

    That's not a good solution.
Changes in systemd default behaviour are reasonable. It guarantees that if your graphical enviroment has no suspend support, it will still suspend when the lid is closed.
For example, closing the laptop lid at KDM login screen will now suspend the laptop. I remember a topic when someone nearly killed his notebook battery with overheat in that situation (the laptop did not suspend when the lid was closed at kdm screen).
This change also brings native (non-acpid) suspend support to lighweight desktop enviroments.
The source of the «double suspend» problem is in acynchronized update of systemd and KDE.
Updating KDE to 4.9.2 (which will be released in several days) will fix this without editing the config file.
Make sure you restore the original logind.conf after updating to KDE 4.9.2.

how do you resolve the problem of ipad not staying connected to internet when other devices are connected. Ipad disconnects after about 5 seconds.

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro will not stay off or asleep

    Hi,
I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro will not stay turned off when I tell it to shut down.  It will shut down just fine, but a few seconds later it will boot up again.  This also happens when I try to close the lid (or just put it to sleep), it will work fine, screen/Apple logo on the back will turn off and the status LED will slowly pulse.  However a few seconds later, the LED stops pulsing and the Apple logo will illuminate.  If I open the lid I will be greeted with the log in page with zero delay (i.e. its been displaying for a while).
This has become problematic because the computer always be running.  If I put it in my laptop bag the computer will get hot as ****. The only way to get it to really turn off is to let the battery die or remove the battery.  But this computer does not have the externally removable battery so that is not a trivial process.
The symptoms exist in both Mac OS (Mountain Lion and Maveriks) and Windows 8/8.1.  This makes me believe its something in the hardware (or at least a setting in the hardware), not software (I know Apple doesn't care what Windows does, but it is exibiting identical behavior).
I have reset the NVRAM and the SMC with no luck.  When I reset the SMC I didn't get a good indication that anything happened though, and was wondering if that is normal.  Resetting the NVRAM results in another restart, while its hard to tell if you actually reset the SMC.  I reset the SMC by turning the computer off, then holding the power button when it tries to restart (this usually gives me a few minutes where the computer will actually stay off), then pressing shift, control, option and power at the same time and releasing them at the same time.  This is how the Apple documentation said to do it.  They did not mention how long the must be held though so I presume that doesn't matter.
    Anyone experience this/have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • Laptop does not boot.

Laptop will not load Vista OS.  BIOS works ok and all internal diags passed ( harddrive and memory ).  The screen stays black with the cursor blinking.  I tried booting off on the dvd drive with a Vista and Windows 2008 server boot disk but got a CDBOOT Error Code:0.  Could not find that error anywhere on the web.  I removed the harddrives and screen showed "NO bootable disk" as I would have expected.  SATA Harddrive issue?  Could that also cause the DVD drive to malfunction?

I grasp that your notebook will not boot or startup but just presents a blank or black screen.    You were able to access the bios and test the hard drive and memory and both passed. You tried booting to a Vista disk but were unsuccessful.

  • Kernel 2.6.32.2-2 black screen after closing laptop lid (intel + KMS)

Today I updated my laptop with the new 2.6.32.2-2 kernel from core. Previous update of my system was just a few days back, so there are no massive changes to other packages and I also don't use testing packages.
Since the update, after closing the laptop lid (which just blanks my screen) and I want to continue working I just have a black screen (no backlight) and the screen won't respond to mouse or keyboard input. I have to reboot (ctr-alt-del or pushing my power button) or switch to VT1 and back to VT7 to get my screen back. I'm absolutely positive that this was not a problem before, it worked fine with 2.6.30 and 2.6.31 kernels with my same configuration.
    HP 6730b laptop
Intel GMA 4500 (Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07))
Intel driver 2.9.1-1 using KMS with early start (modprobe.conf) and I rebuilt my initcpio to the new 2.6.32.2-2 kernel
    Gnome 2.28.2
Can anyone confirm this behaviour? Should I file a bug somewhere? I read about lots of upgrade problems with this new kernel, but for the rest everything else works fine so far.
    Thanks for your feedback.

ulukai wrote:@ Moose Jaw: I also looked into pm-suspend, but i guess it is only usefull for suspending and resuming sessions (something I never do)? Is there a command you know for simulating closing the lid and reopening it again?
Isn't suspending and resuming a session exactly what you're doing (or hoping to do) when you close your lid and then open it up again?  I.e., putting the machine into a low-power sleep state and then having everything come back to where you were when you wake it up?  You mentioned that the Gnome power management tools depend on pm-utils, which suggests that somewhere in there "pm-suspend" is getting called.  If you can find out where it's getting called (i.e., in some script that Gnome power manager uses), and try changing it to "pm-suspend --quirk-vbestate-restore" (or one of the other quirks, perhaps), then that may bring your screen back on wakeup.
Hehe, nope I don't hope to suspend :-) I just close the lid to save the display (and some power) but want my machine to keep running (when downloading torrents or when I'm going to eat etc...) Also it keeps the dust from entering the keyboard ;-)
I also took a look at the post where there should be a patch present, but I think it's for another problem: flickering screens.
For me it's a bug in intel driver or kernel, but still it's strange that KDE doesn't suffer from this!

  • Zoom Level Setting Does not Stay Constant

HP Pavilion dv7-6163us Entertainment Notebook PC
The zoom level is set at 125 but keeps changing as I go to different screens.  It bounces to 150  and I have to cycle it thru 100 and then 125.  It will not stay at 125 and  I cannot find a solution to the problem.  In fact when I ask a HP forum for 'zoom level' I get no responses.  Sometimes the screen will be at 150 but the zoom level indicates it is at 125.  I unchecked PINCH ZOOM in the mouse setting for Synaptics Touch Pad Device but it had no affect.  In Opions, advanced settings I have checked the Reset Zoom Level (but could that be a problem?)  This just started after I removed a program that was not working correctly.

zoom level keeps changing as i am typing..hate it sometimes to goes clear down to the lowest level..also i can't set the blinking curser to stop..it disapears when i go to use it..this is my second hp laptop and my other one did the same thing..drives me crazy....

  • IPod 30GB (MA446LL/A) Does Not Stay On and Clicks

After connecting the iPod to my laptop, the Apple icon appears but it does not stay on (blinks on and off) and I hear a click. The unit has been sitting in my drawer for almost one year and has not been charged or used within that time.
    1. Does this affect the unit?
    2. Do I need to have iTunes loaded on my laptop for this unit to actually stay on?
    3. Can this be fixed? If so, how?
    Any help would be appreciated

I had a 15GB model with similar problems and reached a solution.
    • First of all, charge the darn thing! If you don't have the necessary power adapter, your laptop should do. Normally, when the power is low, you'll get an icon on the screen to tell you as much. When it's really, really low, then it can't even load that much up, as seems to be your case. Charging it should be a big help. Just don't expect the time and date to be correct at that point.
    • You don't have to have iTunes loaded on your machine to charge it. However, if and when it comes down to it, you will have to have it to restore the iPod and then sync you library to it again.
If this doesn't work, there are a few more extreme options to try. Let me know if that's the case, and I'll detail them for you.

Also, another thing is, I dont know if its about  disabling acpid but, now whenever I do something new, like opening a tab in firefox, clicking on search area in arch wiki, my machine acts like a new cd inserted, but instead it uses hdd, it stops for 1 second, drive starts moving, then it acts, and I'm talking about 8gb ram, i7 machine...
