TX1250ea thinks two monitors are installed

My laptop thinks that in addition to being connected to its own screen, it is also connected to second display (which it is not). The NVIDIA control panel calls this display an HDTV whereas Vista display settings calls it "Generic Non-PnP monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150". Device Manager shows two monitors - Generic Non-PnP Monitor and Generic PnP Monitor.
When starting up or resuming the computer from sleep the computer gets very confused and starts continuously switching the display between the laptop display, the non-existent display and attempting to display the same screen on both displays. Windows Presentation settings also switches itself on and off during this switching process.
I can sometimes (but not always) stop this from happening by using the NVIDIA Control Panel and telling it to use the Laptop Display only (which is very difficult as the mouse moves back to the centre of the screen on each switch). However, sometimes the computer settles on using the external non-existent display only, with a black screen on the laptop, and sometimes it settles for attempting to display the same image on both screens. In this cases, it sets the resolution to 720x480 in a tiny box in the middle of my laptop display.
I have disabled the non-pnp monitor in device manager, but this hasn't helped.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks

Hey Whitestar, This seems to have been posted a long time ago, But I signed in just to answer this question as long as you are still having the problem. But hey if anyone else comes along they'll have this answer.
If you are running windows 7 Here is the fix (I just had this same problem) but you right click your desktop and click the "screen resolution" Option, Click on the second monitor and go to the last setting, (should be the fourth dropdown box) And change it to "Remove this display" and click Apply.
There you have it, one monitor detected.

Have you tried HELP in FINDER?  If you open HELP and enter 'displays' in the field in the upper right hand corner you will get a list of topics on setting up monitors.  Specifically read 'Setting up multiple displays to show the same image' and 'Setting up multiple displays as an extended desktop'.

I have two versions of photoshop installed on my Mac. Double clicking on the Photo in Bridge CS6, the photo is opened in Photoshop CS5 (Photoshop CS5 (default). Haw can I set Photoshop CS6 as the default application?

Thanks for your prompt replay, I had already done what you suggested, but it does not work. When you open in Bridge File>Open with you still see Photoshop CS5 (default) and the file is opened automatically with Photoshop CS5 and not CS6 unless you specifically choose Open with Photoshop CS6. I vaguely remember that I found once somewhere "would you like Photoshop xxx to be your default option? but I cannot remember where and I cannot find it anymore

  • Screen sharing crashes remote machine with two monitors in 10.7.2

    Hello,
Whenever i connect to my Mac Pro (running 10.7.2 now), the machine hangs completely if my two monitors are connected.  This happens both over the network using Back to my Mac and Slink, when on a local network from my macbook Pro and a friends older iBook. (both running Lion). It also happens from a VNC client (remoter vnc) from my ipad. If i disconnect my second monitor, it works fine in all cases.  Is anyone else experience a remote machine crash when trying to screen share?
I can connect to the disks fine. it's just screen sharing
I recently refromatted my machine and it was working fine before then -- but i imagine the problem stems from 10.7.2 since i both reformatted and upgraded.
    thanks

  • CC thinks all apps are up-to-date

    Hi There,
I've had 3 support calls with Adobe where we removed CC then reinstalled, logged in using a different CC account, and also tried a different user account on the mac. But in the end we ended up with the same issues we started with:
Either CC thinks no apps are installed or...
CC thinks the apps are up-to-date
The only thing I can think of is the way these apps were installed - becauase we have 4 macs, we downloaded the CC packager, which downloaded and made an installer. Then we used the installer to install the apps.
The apps all run fine and if we signout, CC asks us to sign in when we try to launch an app - so the issues don't seem to be lincensing or account related.
This occurs accross 4 macs running:
    - 10.7 x1 mac
    - 10.8 x2 macs
    - 10.9 x1 mac
So it doesn't seem like an OS issue either - does anyone know how to fix this?
After several weeks of Avid and Protools licensing issues this year, we're kinda tired of managing this stuff so sorry if we're a bit short!
Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

You probably created an invalid signature in the installation package. Well, whatever. You can always run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool at the cost of the apps appearing not installed at all, defeating the purpose of your customized package...

  • Synchronizing Color Profiles of two monitors

How do i synchronize the color profile on my macbook pro with another monitor?

They are just different. Some monitors have a "control panel" (accessed by buttons on the monitor) that adjusts the color "tone" (don't know the technical term). I'm pretty sure Samsung monitors have this feature. Maybe the two monitors are set up differently.
You can also adjust the color using ColorSync feature of Mac OS X. Open System Preferences to the Displays pane. A control window opens on each display. Click on the Color tab. From there, you can calibrate the display so that they match as close as possible.
So first, adjust the color from the display, if that's possible. Then use System Preferences to get the two matched as closely as possible.

If the Office updates have to be run through Win in Parallels, there's not really a section here that covers that , because Neither Office or Parallels are Apple products. There is only a small chance that you'll find someone with BOTH your conditions who just happend to look into a forum on older iMacs.
    Parallels has a forum here:

I think you'll get a faster response there.

  • Lion thinks I have two monitors connected

I have a MacPro 2008 with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT.
    I have two monitors, a Phillips 27" and a Samsung 19"
I set up the system with the two monitors connected to the graphics card and everything was fine.
I have since disconnected the Samsung monitor completely from the graphics card. however Lion thinks it's still there/connected.
It's a real pain because it persists on displaying on the phantom screen and no matter what I do through System Prefs/Display I cannot get Lion to forget the monitor. Even if I gather the windows and place them one behind the other. If I click detect displays it thinks there are two there.
Looking through the forum/discussions, this appears to be a problem with Lion and not the graphics cards, as people have simpliar problems with different cards/systems and what they're outputting to.
    Anybody have any suggestions?
    Cheers

I have tried that fix, and it does work.
However if I every time I connect a second monitor to the graphic card the same thing happens and I don't want to have to reset preferences every time I choose have a second monitor running.
I sometimes run the second graphic channel out to my 46" Sony TV for watching catch up TV services.
    Any other suggestions?

They have a trial version you can test before you purchase. It limits you to 10 minutes of streaming before it starts inserting noise into the stream.
But you may not need it. I've read a bit further, and it appears that you may be able to stream any system audio to an Airport Express without needing AirFoil since you have Mountain Lion. I though it would work only with an Apple TV, but I've seen mention that it works with the AE as well (I don't have one to try). When you get your Airport Express set up, go to the Sound (speaker) icon in the menu bar, hold down the Option key, and click the icon. You may see the AE listed there as a selectable output device; if so, select it and all your system audio should be sent to the AE, including Spotify.

  • Running two monitors

I thought I'd retitle this one before i pay my local shop £57 per hour (no joking). Basically, I have installed a specialist graphics card (a Radius ThunderPower 30/1600) in my Mac. I need to run a CRT monitor off of this to do some psychophysics experiments for my PhD. The other monitor runs off the existing graphics card. I need to run it in extended desktop mode. Initially it worked for about 10 minutes untill I foolishly switched to the other monitor mode (where you see two copies) and tried to run an application through the special graphics card (althought you would think this would work). Both cards still work seperately. I have tried lots of things but cannot get them both running. HHHEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!!

    Hi, Hairlosscream -
Also, in the Monitors control panel make sure that one of the monitors is set as the main one (it's the one with the miniature representation of the menu bar - you can drag that from one to the other), and that the icons representing the monitors are touching, ideally matching their physical relationship/orientation. As I recall, the monitor icon marked with a "1" is fixed, and the other is draggable.

  • Best Way to Hook-up Two Monitors - an LCD and CRT.

I have two monitors, a Samsung SyncMaster 940BX LCD with DVI and VGA ports, the other a Viewsonic CRT with VGA port that I use as a palette monitor.
Which is the best (most reliable) port on the Mac Mini to use for a VGA monitor, the Mini-DVI Port or the Mini DisplayPort? I have a Mini-DVI Port to VGA adapter from my PowerBook that I can use if needed, and will order whatever Mini DisplayPort adapter that I may need. Thanks.

I would think that starting from DVI would be the better choice for running a VGA display. I say this because analog VGA output is part of the DVI standard, so it is accounted for, should be mature technology and should work.
DisplayPort, on the other hand, does not account for any VGA output. It is a strictly digital standard. Apple has created an adapter that has active electronics inside that uses digital signals for input and does a digital to VGA translation within the confines of the adapter. Strange but true.
From reading these forums over the years, one thing I have learned is there is no such thing as a sure thing. Some people report better results from the DVI port when running VGA and others say they could only get their VGA display to work from DisplayPort. So it seems it can depend on the display, too. In that case, you are probably stuck using trial and error to see what will work best for your setup because it's unlikely anyone else is going to have exactly the same two monitors you do.

  • Mac mini, thunderbolt and two monitors

    Hi all,
I have a late 2012 Mac Mini, and a 27" LED Cinema display.  I want to connect two monitors to the mini.  I was thinking about buying a 27" Thunderbolt display to connect via the Thunderbolt port, then daisy chaining the LED Cinema (via mini-DP) to the Thunderbolt display.  Will this work?
Any other suggestions would be welcomed as well.
    Thanks.
    John

Does your comment mean that you use the Thunderbolt disk drive inbetween LED cinema display and the Thunderbolt display ie. you plug the MDP cable coming out of the LED display into the TB drive, and then use the other TB port on the drive to plug into the Thunderbolt display?? I assume then into the computers TB port..?
    Yes.
A couple of things if I'm getting this right...does this mean the drive is useless as a drive and is rather just acting as a hub?? I'm assuming this because there are no ports left on the drive to actually plug it into the computer
The drive will work.  It gets its data connection to the computer through the Thunderbolt display's connection.
2nd I've heard that a thunderbolt port can only support 1 MDP device in it's chain, and it is has to be last in the chain before connection?? Does this not cause a problem? Having said that I have my 24" LED apple display connected through a TB drive and it is the drive that connects last and works fine (after I updated the displays frimware to stop the flicker it caused).
What do you mean by "before connection"?  The MDP device is the last in the chain, not the disk drive.

  • External VGA monitors are not working only with my Macbook Pro 2012mid version

    Hi all,
I have a macbook pro 13' 2012mid version, running the latest version of Mavericks, 10.9.2. If I connect my macbook to any extrernal VGA monitor (I have tried 4 different monitors), then the external display is detected in system preferences, but the monitor is showing only black screen (no signal). I am 100% sure, that my minidisplay port, the cable and the monitors are working properly, cause if I boot the same macbook from bootcamp win7 partition, then external monitors are working well.
I have also tried the same miniDP VGA with an older macbook pro (I think it is a model from year 2011, but also running Mavericks 10.9.2) on the same displays and the monitors are working fine. So the problem must be with in my OS X.
A have also tried some things, that I found on the net, like booting with the plugged in monitors in safe mode, reseting pram, I tried different settings for the external monitor in the system preferences (resolution, refresh rate...) but nothing helped. External monitor stayed recognized in system preferences, but with black screen and no signal.

Your post is incredibly hard to read, font is way to small.
If you used Boot Camp Assistant to create a partition to install Windows to you need a REAL Windows 7 or 8 install media and license key and you have to actually install Windows on your Mac. Boot camp is only for creating a partition to install Windows and starting the Windows install from REAL Windows install media.
That Windows install media has to be a DVD disc, if your Mac has a built in DVD drive (Apple does not allow Windows to be install any other way on Mac computers that originally come with a built in DVD drive), or from a USB stick with the actual Windows install files on it (Not an ISO of the Windows install files).
So the question is did you install Windows on your Mac? It doesn't look like it from the Option key boot and the list of available Boot Devices you posted.
