TX2 DVD Drive Won't Open

I bought the Tx2  2 days ago. I had the keyboard stop working on me and was able to get that fixed. Now the dvd drive won't open. When I first boot up the LED light flashes, letting me know that there is power to it but whenever I push the open button, nothing happens. I have tried ejecting it from the drive icon inside of windows explorer and media player.
I bought this so I could watch movies during my 2 1/2 hour commute so if I can't get this drive open I will be returning it.

Is there a small paperclip-sized hole on the front of, or next to, the drive? If so, you can put a paperclip in there to manually eject the disc drive.
Is the drive showing up in the "Computer" explorer window?
Also, try going to Device Manager and see if the drive is listed or in an error state.

  • My dvd drive won't open so I can insert a disc.  It has opened in the past by pushing the button on my mac

I can't insert any dvd's because my dvd drive won't open when I push the open key.  It has always worked in the past.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

It's possible there is a CD/DVD in the drive that's stuck. Open Disk Utility in Applications/Utilities. Do you see a CD/DVD in the drive? Try ejecting using unmount.
If that fails, restart and hold down the mouse button whe restarting.

I saw that you posted the suggested paper clip trick as a solution, but it does not work for me. my machine is a new (2011) hp. i do not think it matters that it is a bluray drive. any other hints would be hugely appreciated

  • My DVD drive won't open when I click the button

    Hi there
I'm hoping someone can help me.
My DVD drive won't open when I click the button.
I've tried clicking on eject on the DVD Drive icon in My Computers and it comes up with an error message.
I think I deleted cookies the other day. Could that have anything to do with the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to send my laptop away to a technician.

    Hi
Try to open the CD/DVD drive manually.
Near the eject button you will find a small hole.
You could use a small object like staple and could push it carefully into this hole.
Usually this should helps to open the drive manually.

  • Portege R935-ST3N02 with Windows 8 DVD Drive won't open and doesn't appear in Explorer

I have seen posts concerning this problem under Windows 7, but my new laptop came with Windows 8.  The button on the DVD drive will not open it.  I can force it open using the paper clip hole, but the computer does not recognize any CD or DVD that I put in the drive.  Anyone have ideas on what I should do?

Turn off your laptop, unplug all wires, remove the battery, and hold the power button for thirty seconds. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections.
If that doesn't work, check if it's listed in the Device Manager.
    Windows key + x > Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives
If it is listed there, try right-clicking it and selecting "Uninstall." Then reboot your computer and see if it works.

  • Lower DVD drive won't open/close since Snow Leopard upgrade

    Hello,
I have 2 optical drives in my Mac Pro: 1 Superdrive in the upper slot and 1 DVD-ROM drive in the lower slot (a HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-7000 which came with my old Dual G4 450).
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can't use the lower drive anymore, it won't open or close (I used the alt-eject keys, nothing happens). The drive also is not listed in the eject-menu in the menue bar, but it appears in system profiler as:
    HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-7000:
    Modell: HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-7000
    Version: 016J
    Seriennummer:
    Absteckbares Laufwerk: Nein
    Protokoll: ATAPI
    Einheiten-Nummer: 1
    Socket-Typ: Intern
    Low-Power-Polling: Nein
    Ausschalten: Nein
Anybody any ideas what I can do to get that 2nd drive to work again?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

Today I had a little time do do some testing:
The tip with the SMC RESET button didn't help.
Zapping the PRAM/NVRAM didn't help either.
The jumpers were on "cable select" on both drives, I tried to set one as "master" and the other one as "slave". Problem still exists.
I changed the position of the drives to check if the cable is ok. Still the same.
I unplugged the other (working) drive and had just the one plugged in. It shows up in system profiler but not in the drives menue nor in the disk utility application.
I booted from my 10.5 installation DVD and tried the disk utility from there. It's not on the list.
    Any other ideas?

  • MacPro 2007  DVD Drive won't open

    Lion 10.7.4
Pressing the Eject key on the keyboard does not open the DVD tray.  Usually the Eject symbol appears briefly on the screen and then the tray will extend.  But, this is not working at all.  I've reset the PRAM, but still the problem persists.
Going to About this Mac shows that the system "sees" the DVD drive, I just can't the the tray to extend.  There is no DVD or CD in the drive at this time.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Galb:
Sometimes the best solutions are the manual ones.  There is a mechanical fail safe built in to these devices,  I have had to use this method several times myself, so ....
    .....   Try this:
    1) Power off your mac pro.
    2) With your finger, pull down the metal bezel on the affected drive.
    3) You should now see the front plastic bezel on the affected drive, it is usually black or grey.
    4) Look for a small pinhole somewhere on the front. It will have a very small diameter, about 0.5mm.
    5) Yes it's there, all cd/dvd drives have one!   Note: a small flashlight comes in handy here.
    6) Straighten out a standard paperclip for about 2 -3 inches.
    7) Insert the paperclip in the small hole and push, you will have some resistance, and then the drive tray will slowly push out about 0.5 inches or more.
    8) Grab the tray and pull it out slowly!!
    9) You are done!
    10) If you do this gently you won't hurt the drive. Boot up and the tray should automatically slide back in. You are good to go.

On my HP pavilion loaded with vista, the DVD drive will not operate.  When I try to open the dvd drive in computer dialog box, with a data or software dvd in place, it ejects the disk and requests that I insert a disk.

  • DVD drive won't open... no way to open it!!!

My problem is that if I press and hold my eject key on the keyboard the eject symbol shows up and fades away on my screen, but the drive will not open. I pulled down the metal cover and was going to try and stick a paper clip into the hole next to the dvd tray, but discovered that there is no hole. I've restarted the computer holding down the mouse button, and i've restarted the computer holding down the eject button to no avail. I've even tried ejecting in Toast and I get NOTHING! So what do i have to do to get the stupid tray out? Pry it open with a crowbar, or maybe blast it open with some C4?

    Hi,
Just a thought, the ATA cable may be loose or disconnected, if this is the case you'll just need to plug it back in. - Otherwise I'm guessing the drive is dead.
Here's a link to the manual for how to install the drive, check that the cable is in place. (refer to pages 42 - 46)

  • K410 CD/DVD drive won't open, tried paperclip and ejecting thru Windows

I dont have that paperclip button to stick one thru, its just a door that you open and the drive should open.  also tried ejecting thru My Computer, neither work..

    hi alexfsu,
If pressing the eject button doesn't open the ODD door then there's most likely a problem with the front bezel.
    - Link to picture
In this case, consider the following:
    1. Remove the front bezel and see if you can eject the ODD (see page 27-28 of the hardware maintenance manual).
    2. Reseat the SATA and Power connector that goes to the ODD
If you're still under warranty, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue as they usually send someone over tor service.

  • Cd/dvd drive won't burn a disc,although it will read a cd

i have a compaq cq62 with windows 7 home premium with the cd/dvd drive won't burn a disc, although it will read a cd

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
Check if the drive will now burn a disc.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it is now able to burn a disc.

  • Disk Drive won't open: Root Cause

I've seen several posts here and elsewhere on why the DVD/CD drive won't open/eject on the Mac Pro or Macbook. Pressing the keyboard button doesn't eject it, and neither do any terminal commands. After banging my head against a wall I found the cause: VMWare Fusion had "mounted" the DVD-drive so the Mac thought the drive was terminally "busy". If you have Parallels, the same may be happening to you as well.
P.S. I suspect a similar thing may be happening with my external hard drive, which I have set up as my Time Machine drive. I periodically get a message that Time Machine encountered an error but no details. The drive may be hijacked by VMWare when Time Machine tries to access it...

VMware can grab USB devices too. It's a good idea to make sure your VM's aren't set to attach the cd/dvd drive automatically when they start.

  • Installed itunes 6 and now CD/DVD drive won't work at all

I just bought a new ipod and installed the software and now my CD/DVD drive won't work at all. Here is my info: Could someone please help!!!
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
    Dell Computer Corporation Inspiron 5160
    iTunes 6.0.4.2
    CD Driver 2.0.4.3
    CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2
    LowerFilters: ASAPIW2K (6.0.2.0),
    UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.4.3),
Video Driver: NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 \GeForce FX Go5200
IDE\DiskFUJITSUMHT2080AH_______________________006C___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]

SCSI\CdRomROXIO__DVD-ROM_EMULATOR___, Bus Type SCSI, Bus Address [0,0]
If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
    Current user is administrator.
    D: SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A, Rev PDS7
    Drive is empty.
    E: ROXIO DVD-ROM EMULATOR, Rev
    Drive is empty.
If anyone has a solution for this stupid problem that would be great.
    Thanks

Yes, I suspect that it's the virtual drive emulator software you have there. I know nothing about that software and it doesn't look like the Roxio support page even mentions it, so it's probably software old enough that they're not supporting it anymore.
To uninstall any software, I would start with the "Add and Remove Programs" Control Panel. Uninstall it there, and then use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility —
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
Download and install that. Run it and find the drive emulator software on the list and remove it there. And reboot and see if that has successfully removed it.
There is a work around that if we just remove the iTunes CD driver, you'll probably get your drive back, but you'll only be able to rip CDs, you won't be able to burn them without the iTunes CD driver installed. You do have some Pinnacle CD burning software installed. Are you currently using that or is that leftover cruft as well?

  • Imac dvd drive won't accept disks

My iMac's dvd drive won't let me insert any disks. It feels like there's something blocking the way in. The eject button on my keyboard doesn't seem to be working either – usually the dvd drive makes an 'ejecting sound' when the button is pushed, even when there's no disk. I've also tried some disk ejecting tricks found in this community. The dvd drive seems to be responding to nothing...

    Try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
No guarantee this will work but it's a start.
