TX2510ea. Accidentily poked the rubber thing near the power input, should I be worried?

Hey there,
Well, I often have 'nearly' accidently done this, but now I finally have:
Just a little behind where you plug the power cable in to the unit, there is what appears to be a little rubber stopper,  I accidently poked my power connector through this while plugging the unit in.
My question is,  should I be concerned?  What was the function of that rubber stopper and is it necessary to have it in that hole.
Thanks.

Hi rjackson.  Some of the tx series notebooks have a jack for an external antenna connection.  Apparently your tx2510ea does not have that option installed.  So that rubber stopper was simply covering the empty space to make it look nicer and to keep other things from being accidently poked in there, umm, like power connectors.
I wouldn't worry about it.

  • If plugged into the power supply, should the Cinema Display A1081 standby light come on without being plugged into a mac

I was given an old Cinema Display A1081 a few years ago. I am trying to test it and want to know if plugged into the power supply, should the standby light come on without being plugged into a mac?  I don't want to buy a DVI to mini display adapter if it isn't working.  One thing I did do was plug Monitor power in and then the USB plulg into my PC laptop and my iPhone charger USB plug into the back of the monitor.  I am able to charge my iPhone this way so I know that the power supply is working. But I can't tell if the monitor itself is workign as no ligths are on. (PS:  I am purchasing my first Mac so I am a complete newb but very proficient with PCs) Thanks so much for your help.

Just a final question about Sleep mode - does this have any negative effects on the life or performance of the laptop? I'm so used to Shutting down the laptop each day that I worry about Sleep mode having some sort of drain on the components or something.
There are only two practical differences between Sleep and Shut Down:
    1. Sleep will wake instantly, so you don't have to wait for startup.
    2. Sleep will drain a new, fully charged battery after several days without being woken or plugged in. If you shut down, the battery charge lasts much longer. Obviously, if you only sleep it overnight, you'll still have plenty of battery left in the morning.
Don't sleep it more frequently than necessary, though. Frequently turning the backlight and hard drive off and on can shorten their life. Just do what's reasonable. I usually leave mine awake until I have to transport it in a bag, along with sleeping it overnight. On battery, I'll sleep it more often to preserve battery.

Sometimes, when I click a link on a web page, I see in the address bar the words: "Search bookmarks and history" (greyed out) just before I am taken to the link I clicked. A moment later, when I'm at the link, its address appears in the address bar, and all is normal. It seems that this happens only from some particular sites. Is FireFox reporting that my bookmarks and history are being searched?

That is OK. Firefox will only display the link in the location bar after the DNS look up has succeeded and a connection to the server has been established. Until that has been done you see the default setting for the location bar: Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest

  • How to charge the battery if the power input is damaged?

The mains power socket on my Satellite 4070CDT has been damaged and the laptop will no longer take power or recharge the battery from this socket. (Attempts to re-solder the joint have damaged the power detection circuitry!)
Does anyone know if I can feed the appropriate voltage (10.8v?) to the battery contacts inside the battery housing to keep the laptop going, and if so, which contacts and with what tolerance on the voltage?
(Applying 12v across the +ve and one particular -ve contact seems to persuade the power management software that it is running from mains without a battery, but after 20 seconds the laptop powers down.)
    Any ideas? Thanks.

With some experimentation (and the assistance of a voltage meter) I have found a solution, which I have described below should anyone else be similarly troubled!
My li-ion battery has 10 end-facing contacts and 2 top-facing contacts. One of the 2 top-facing contacts is the real +ve contact for the battery, which passes charge via the other top-facing contact to the end-facing contact that is marked as being the +ve terminal.
Of the 9 remaining end-facing contacts, only two (the 3rd and 10th counting from the +ve as 1st contact) were reporting any charge, probably due to the battery being almost fully discharged.
I have soldered the 12v +ve supply from a new external adaptor to the 1st end-facing contact (which is marked as the +ve contact) and the -ve connection to the 3rd and 10th contacts, feeding the cable out through a notch cut in the laptop casing at the contact end of the battery.
The cable is terminated with a suitably sized floating socket to receive the plug from the 12v adaptor.
    AND IT WORKS!
The laptop is reporting that the battery only has 4% charge, but it keeps going! I have turned-off the battery alarms and system-tray indicator as they are meaningless now.
So my 6-year-old laptop lives to see another day, although it is no longer a 'mobile' device now that it needs constant mains supply - but it still has its uses.
    Query closed!

  • Macbook Pro 2 has had 2 different batteries and fried both would it have to do with the power input inside laptop

Based on the age of the machine it may have to do with a known series of Apple notebooks that had bad batteries.  Good luck finding an Apple Store that will honor the old exchange/repair program for them. http://www.macsales.com/ offers replacement batteries that will work as long as the case inside isn't too warped.

  • Power input specs for the zen x

You might want to ask this in the MacBook Pro forums… you're in the MacBook forums.

  • Using the Power Adaptor

    Greetings,
When using the power adaptor should I take out the battery?
The reason why I ask this is that I use to have a Sony laptop running Windows 2000 and had continual problems with the battery not holding its charge. I was eventually told by the Sony technicians that once the battery was fully charged I should remove it from the laptop whilst running from the mains.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello!
You might try posting this in the appropriate Powerbook Forum. We don't know much about laptops here in the G4 Tower forum.
If you have a G4 iBook post here.

Had an Iphone 4 for about 3 months now. This happened to the first one I had and they ended up having to replace it at the apple store just a couple weeks ago 6/2. It happened again last night to my new one. This time i was able to correct it by going to itunes, backing up the phone to icloud, and then restoring the software. Mine did not work with voice memo, but did work with headphones plugged in, and would also work on speaker. I could hear callers but they couldn't hear me. I had purchased a new case (lifeproof case at $79.99) because it comes with plugs that cover the headphone jack, and the charging port, and is also waterproof. I heard that the root cause is due to lint, dirt, etc getting inside the headphone jack. Well, must be something else. It's a 10 days old phone, and has been in this overpriced case the whole time, and I have not used the headphones. I hope this doesn't keep happening.

  • The rubber things for Apple In-Ear Headphones (need new)

    Hey
I lost the rubber thing on one of the ear pieces and I have small ears... apparently... because medium and large don't fit.
Medium almost fit, but they are borderline uncomfortable.
I use them every day to and from work
(and when I travel, when I can't sleep, when I want to sleep - in new places or noisy places, when I read, when I run, to and from the gym and sometimes brushing my teeth)
    - I use them a lot, and they are pretty new so it really *****.
Can I buy new ones? I live in Denmark, so preferably in that general area.

apple don't set the warrenty time the laws of germany does
the headphones have the same warrenty as an iphone or ipad or imac
if the headset was included when you bought the iphone it's warrenty lenght follow that of the iphone

  • Hairline cracks near the power button :-(

Hello everyone!!  this is my first post here... so sad that it has to be a negative one.  i dont know if someone else has posted this topic, but i dont really have time at this precise moment to check.
i have a small hairline fracture just about the power button.  i did absolutely nothing to cause this crack.  my mother also has this tiny little crack in the same place.  i guess its just a flaw in the materials used for the device.  but, this is really frustrating because im afraid it might crack all the way, and then im stuck without a phone.  also, my power button is a little flimsy, and i dont abuse this phone because it is my first smartphone, and i need it to work properly for two years before i can upgrade to one of those pretty and bright new centros.
my question is... why are these same things happening to so many other palm centro users (the hairline crack mostly)??  palm workers, please look into this issue.  i dont think you want to have a bunch of palm centro users returning their phones to the stores because of these little cracks that are a HUGE problem.  in fact, i dont think you even want to sell a product that has a defect like this to begin with!  i love my phone, i love palm, but i DONT want a device with flaws the second time around.  if i could i would take it back to the store, but i am out of warranty and without insurance. perhaps there is a way that i could still get a new/ refurbished one for a minimal fee (NOT full price)?  it has happened to me before.... one of my old phones had issues with the screen and i took it and i got a refurbished replacement for 30 dollars.  the replacement worked perfectly fine.  if this is possible with the centro please let me know because i will go the sprint store in a heart beat.  in fact, if i get a wonderful refurbished phone without cracks i might not even upgrade because the newer one is almost the same (although more memory is nice..... if you guys release a purple colored one to sprint then i will definitely upgrade because thats my favorite color.... you might want to keep that in mind ).  what worries me is the crack and the power button.  i need help.... any suggestions??

  • I accidentily deleted the "yesterday" folder from my history list. How do I get it back (the folder, not the contents)?

I meant to delete the contents of the "yesterday" history folder, but accidentily deleted the folder itself (with the little clock in front of it) by by right clicking, then choosing delete from the dropdown menu when "yesterday" was highlighted. Can't figure out how to put that folder (or collection site or whatever it is) back on the list. Thanks for any help you can provide.

This folder will be automatically created and populated with your today content tomorrow.
