Tx2z wont' boot up, blank display and flashing keys

My laptop had various BSOD's which were recently resolved but now I am getting a blank display when I try to boot up my laptop. I can hear the fan noise and all the lights are working properly. However, The caps lock and num lock keys blink 3 times in a sequence. Any idea how I can resolve this issue?

Hi @GC66 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-3210us Notebook and issues with startup issues. Here is a document on computer won't start. It gives you a step by step to follow.
I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults if you can get into the BIOS. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings which should resolve  a startup issue.
Here is a link that shows you how to do a hardware test. I would run this if you do get the Notebook started.
Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.
Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

  • Wont boot: I get beeps and flashing sleep light

The PB-T boots to a beeping noise and then the sleep light flashes once: long, then 3 short flashes.
I reseated the RAM and swapped RAM, to no avail.
Wont boot from anything even install disks. Did the PRAM too (which never does anything). Tried the reset switch on the back too. Nothing.
Ideas? I remember the beeps are usually related to RAM. no?

    Hi Steve,
It sounds like you have no good RAM banks, which basically means a new/replacement LB. May not be cost-effective for an older TiBook to replace the LB.

  • Setting the blank f5 and f6 keys for just the bluetooth keyboard?

    Hello,
I just got the apple bluetooth wireless keyboard for my mac book pro. I use it for when my computer is linked to my tv.
I am wondering, how do I set the blank f5 and f6 keys to something? My mbp model is older so all the function keys are layed out differently (the audio levels are f4 and f5 instead of f11 and f12)
I want to keep my laptop function keys exactly how they are. Its just the f5 and f6 on the bluetooth I want to change. I cant seem to figure out how to do it in the preferences. Also, it looks like theres no way to choose just the wireless for this situation?
    Please help!
    Thanks

I believe you would have to write a routine to have those keys recognized for specific purposes. I do not do that, so I cannot give any guidance.

Mac doesn't start up from disc - Apple Support

  • Freezing, blank display and sometimes downright rude

I have a powerbook G4 400 titanium that is acting very rude to me.
I can start it up, and it will get past the Apple icon and go to a blue screen and just hang there, frozen.
To troubleshoot, I've put the original disc inside, and conveniently when I reboot, the display doesn't work. I've tried resetting the pram, pushing "reset", and even holding the option key and getting both the internal hard drive and the disc to mount -- only for it to freeze. I've also tried starting it up in target disk mode by holding "T" only for it to have a blank screen and not mount on the other computer.
I've taken off the back case and checked connections, I've taken off the keyboard and given it my blessings. So, any thoughts? While I'm not willing to buy a new logic board, I don't mind buying a new hard drive if it means getting it working again.
If this is scrap, can someone point me in the direction to take the computer apart and sell it for parts?
    Thanks.

Hi, Tim. (Icall_youTim, too.) Since there is clearly a hardware problem, and scrapping the computer is a distinct possibility, you might as well test the hard drive in an external FireWire enclosure with another Mac and see whether it's in good order. The drive will be useful with your next computer if it is, and this will give you a chance to copy any un-backed-up data that may be on it. The enclosure will also be money well spent for future use. From your description, it seems unlikely to me that the hard drive is your problem.
If the drive is OK, but you still can't start the Powerbook even from its original installer CD or DVD after putting the drive back inside, there isn't much additional testing you can really do. If you have your original Apple Hardware Test CD, boot to that (if you can) and run all the tests. You may want to try removing and reseating the RAM module(s): the PB was probably shipped with one installed, but you may have added another. They can work loose over time; they can also go bad. If you have two, try starting up with just one in place, then swap it for the other and test again, to see whether either is bad. Test each module in each RAM slot, one at a time.
Take the bottom panel off the PB and tighten up all the screws you can see inside. (Be sure to use the correct screwdrivers.) Disconnect and reconnect the optical drive's flex cable connection to the logic board, and all other connections you can see.
Complete, illustrated take-apart instructions are here. But if you decide to scrap the Tibook, you aren't going to know which parts are still working and which aren't, so you might be wisest to keep the hard drive, dispose of the rest "as is" for parts, and let the buyer be responsible for dismantling it and testing them all.

  • My macbook wont boot up, black screen and the cd drive keeps making a constant sound. What to do?

My macbook wont boot up. When I turn it on, the screen turns black right away and the cd/dvd drive keeps making a constant "ejecting" sound.
The strange thing though is that once in a while starts up propperly, but suddely goes black again (after a min. or two), and the ejecting sound comes back. What to do, and yh, I've never done a back up so would it be possible to take out the HD and regain whats in there?
    Any help would be appriciated!

  • Laptop will not boot, no display and flashing caps key

    Hi,
I am attemping to repair a laptop for a family member, their baby threw up on the keyboard, although after they cleared it up they said it was still working (booting into windows, mouse working etc). They took the old keyboard out themselves but it looks like they were a bit heavy handed with it; there are quite a few scratches on the metal plate underneath the keyboard and the plastic surround. I have not yet been able to confirm if the laptop was still booting after the keboard was removed.
Anyway - I went to their house to do what I thought was going to be a relatively easy job, simply connecting the new keyboard. Now the laptop will not boot, there is no display on the screen and we get a flashing CAPS/F12 key. I have looked at the table for LED codes, but I am not sure if it is one flash lots of times, or six flashes. The warranty has also run out so sending to HP not really an option.
There are six short flashes, with quite a long pause between each one. After this the laptop powers off and after another pause turns itself back on and starts over. If it is one flash (CPU) then I guess they must have shafted something on the board by shoving the screwdriver in underneath the keyboard to prise it away from the laptop. There is however not an awful lot of stuff exposed - there is a fairly substancial metal plate under where the keyboard would sit to protect the laptop.
I am hoping at the moment that it is showing six flashes - which is BIOS authentication error. I am not that familiar with HP products, but could this be caused by installing a non-genuine keyboard? The keyboard looks the same from the top, but was bought for less than a tenner on ebay.
If anybody has any ideas that would be great.
    Aaron

  • Blank Screen and flashing cursor on new build-P67A GD65 (B3). Help needed.

As per the title, a computer was built for me with the following specs:
    CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k
Cpu Cooler: Arctic Freezer xtreme Rev 2.0,
    Motherboard: MSI P67A – GD65 (B3)
    PSU: Super-Flower Amazon 550W
    RAM: 4GB G.Skill RipJaws-X, DDR3, 1600
    HDD: 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200rpm
Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Xtreme - 1 GB GDDR5
    Disc Drive: Samsung SH-223C DVD+RW
Case: Cooler Master 690 II LITE Midi-Tower
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Everything went ok with the build and installation of the OS. Computer was booting ok. When I took the computer home that evening, powered it on and a blank screen with a flashing cursor on top left hand corner appeared. Tried several times but failed to boot up properly. Just to note that I can enter into the BIOS and it recognizes HDD, processor, Disk Drive and RAM. What I have done so far (of course with advice from computer experts as compared to me) are the following:
    1. I removed all the parts except cpu and cooler then put them back. When I restarted a message appeared that win7 need to do a repair. It went thro the process and then it stated it can’t do repair. Did this twice. When I restarted the third time, a blank screen with the blinking cursor appeared again.
    2. Cleared the BIOS using the button on the outside of the motherboard and also once using the jumpers inside the motherboard. After doing this, I pressed on the “”ON” button several times (with no power on to the computer) to dissipate any current that was left there.
    3. Interchanged the RAM on different slots. Also tried using only 1 stick of Ram at a time.
    4. Checked the HDD on another machine and it was ok. Formatted the HDD on the other machine, plugged onto new machine and tried to install OS again but no joy.
At this point, I’m now stuck after almost a month when the machine was built. Would it be the motherboard? RAM? etc. Just wondering if I should RMA the motherboard since it is just over a month when it was delivered.
A point to note, there is a message that comes up when it is booting stating no HDD is detected. I googled this but found out it was to do with a marvel adapter that needs to be disabled or something like that. However, it was mentioned that this wasn’t going to affect the performance of the pc as the BIOS can detect all the components.
I also noticed that when I switch on the pc, there is a small pause before it kicks on then there is a long beep followed by 2 small beeps. I presume this is normal.
Any help on this will be highly appreciated?

Disable EuP 2013 & that should take care of the pause. The beeps are normal at startup. Only time I have observed a blank screen & blinking cursor is if the system wasn't getting enough juice to initialize, or their was insufficient power in an OC attempt. What kind of +12V amps does that PSU you have provide?

  • Wont Boot or Install New OS - Flashing Folder with Question Mark

I was trying to upgrade the OS. It downloaded all files. Asked for restart and then went into this mode of displaying flashing folder with "?". Tried to boot from original install CD by pressing down C key but again it gives flashing folder with "?". If I boot with D key even then it gives flashing folder with "?"
Should I try to replace the hard drive?
The CD I was trying to install from MAC OS X Install Disc 1 (10.4.8)
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
It is an Intel processor. 2.16 Core 2 Duo.
I believe it originally came with Tiger pre-installed - it was purchased around early to mid 2007. However, it was then used by my son who went to a boarding school where they installed 10.5 I believe. And they "locked it down" with parental controls etc. Perhaps that is part of the issue.
I had logged into admin and was doing an OS Update (dont recall exact function). It downloaded bunch of stuff and then asked for reboot. On reboot it got stuck on the flashing folder.
The CD/DVD I am using is an Apple CD which says
    For Mac Computers
Mac OS X Install Disc 1
    Mac OS Version 10.4.8
    Copyright 2007.
I assume these are the original CD/DVDs that came with MacBook Pro.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display and Flash Player major issues

    Hello,
Apple has recently released Macbook Pro's with Retina displays.
I have tested my Flash application on the new laptop, and this is what I observe:
    1. My Flex SDK Flash application looks blurry and strange when I try to check it out from any Macbook Pro with Retina display, while looking sharp and OK from all other machines.
On this screenshot you can sort of see the issue:
    http://i.imgur.com/UXHd4.png
(Expand the image to the actual size, and compare the Flex SDK components with browser labels. Browser labels look crisp, Flex SDK components look a little bit blurry.)
    2. It is no longer possible to click on anything in Flash Player Dialogs, such as:
    * Flash Player Settings
    * Webcam or microphone allow/deny dialog
    * All other dialogs (peer-to-peer access, etc)
This issue makes it impossible to use video chat applications on Macbook Pro Retina's because users can't click allow/deny when requested for audio/video access.
I have submitted reports about this to Adobe BugBase here:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3224151

    Please fix these issues.

@nvhdab - If you haven't already, can you please add a bug on your issue over at bugbase.adobe.com  If it's the same as 3224151 then it sounds like it's going to be fixed soon.  I'm trying to find out exactly when, but it might be in the 11.7 release now (4/2/2013 - Flash Player 11.7.700.170 Beta)
@scottclayton - I'm going to ask the team to revisit the click issue.  I don't have a retina display so I can't confirm the issue.  Thank you though for putting up the workaround.

  • Blue screen, wont boot up, have checked and verified drives, reset pram/vra

Hi guys, my 3 week old macbook pro has died? Has been fine. Worked last night, shut down, turned on this morning and i got the apple logo grey screen with turning wheel, then a blue screen ... and i have been there all day.
I have used the hardware test (all ok), checked and verified drives (all ok, a couple files were modified not fixed) using the installation disk.
restarted a few times now and the same thing occurs, i cant get passed the blue screen. Using install disk and disk utility i can get to my desktop (very limited access can not really do too much)
does anyone have any ideas? thanks i have none as i have only used mac for about 3 weeks now!!!!

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions...
a couple files were modified not fixed) using the installation disk.
Try booting from your install disc again. Sometimes it takes more than one pass.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
If Disk Utility reports errors but cannot repair them, take your MBPro to an Apple store or Apple certified repair provider as it's obviously still under warranty.
