Type in russian

After a Skype update, I cannot type in Russian.

Once I switch the language in the input source menu from US to Russian (the one with a flag, displaying the language selected), it would still type in English
Is this the case for all apps, including TextEdit? When answering this message with your browser, if you set the "flag" in the top right of the finder to the Russian flag and type asdfg you don't get фывап?

  • Can't type in russian

    Hi! In the list of languages (In International) I have two languages - english and russian (english is main language). In the input menu russian and US languages are selected.
    Once I switch the language in the input source menu from US to Russian (the one with a flag, displaying the language selected), it would still type in English, although the selected language is Russian. If i Switch the main language to russian - i still can't make it type in russian - when the selected language is russian/english it no matter what types in english.
    So, I want to have all applications and the whole system to be set up in english, and to have the possibility to type in russian, how can I do that?
    Thanks everyone, in advance!

  • Trying to type in Russian script...

    I am taking Russian as a second language and want to work with Russian on my computer to better learn the language. I have already figured out how to change the settings so I can type Cyrillic Russian in pages, but I would like to know if there is any way to type in Russian script (i.e. handwriting in cursive in Russian).
    There are different fonts to type English in script, so what's the trick to Russian script?
    Thanks

    You would need to download a special font to type in cursive cyrillic, and they are not common.  See this page:

    Monotype Corsiva might be one.

  • How to type in russian

    I am slightly computer challenged...
    I got my keyboard russified, now how do i actually use it?

    What happens when you trying typing in TextEdit or some other app?
    To type in any language on a Mac, you go to system preferences/language & text/input sources and check the box for the language you want, plus the box for Show Input Menu in Menu Bar, plus the box for Keyboard Viewer.  Then you go to the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen and select the language you want and type.  To see which key does what you select the Keyboard viewer from the same menu.

  • Printing in Russian Language - after ECC 6.0 unicode upgrade

    Hello ,
    Earlier users from russia are able to print in SAP 4.6C using SAPWIN Device type in russian language.
    but after unicode conversion and ECC 6.0 EHP 4 upgrade, they are not able to print in russian using SAPWIN.
    In print preview ,it is showing correclty, but not in output.
    any help ?
    regards,
    Chaitanya.

    Hi,
    It should not be necessary to change to SAPWIN5. Device type SAPWIN5 only supports cyrillic fonts like COURCYR, HELVCYR or TIMECYR. Therefore, even if the erong font is used in the form, the device type converts it to a Russian font. If yuo use a correct font for Russian characters in the form, then SAPWIN should also work.
    SWINCF should also work with the current form setting.

  • Russian Translations problem with Translation Tool Package

    Hello Everybody.
    I'm doing some translations and whenever I try to paste a Russian text into one of the messages in TTP, the app transforms the Russian characters into question marks. For example:
    Предупреждение: Контактное лицо X не имеет связи с Бизнес-Партнером Y. Но Активность будет сохранена.
    TTP Transforms it into:
    ??????????????: ?????????? ???? X ?? ????? ????? ? ??????-????????? Y. ?? ?????????? ????? ?????????.
    Did anyone come across with this problem?
    Please any information would be helpful.
    Regards,
    Gerardo

    Hello
    It looks like Translation Tool Package does not support russian character set and that's why it is displaying as '?' which means character is not recognized by the application.
    Are you able to type the russian text in a note pad?? If you can type and text is proper, Operarting System is able to recognize russian characters, and not the TTP.
    If it displays '?' in the notepad also, it means OS is not able to identify the Russian character set. In this case, you need to install the russian character set in the machine.
    Can you please provide which CRM mobile release you are currently using. In case if you are using CRM 5.0 or above, you can translate the texts using Mobile Application Studio itself.

  • Read Russian Characters and compare them.

    All,
    My task is to read an XML file and convert all of the Russian Characters in the file to latin characters. (e.g. д would be e and ж would be h)
    When I read the Russian Characters I get wierd characters that look like ??. I tried to read the file in as UTF8 but now instead of the wierd characters I get ???? for the characters.
    The input file looks like this.
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <russian>
         <para>
              <text>testing</text>
              <ru>&#1080;&#1076;&#1092;&#1088; &#1080;&#1076;&#1092;&#1088; &#1080;&#1076;&#1092;&#1088; &#1080;&#1076;&#1092;&#1088;</ru>
         </para>
         <para><ru>&#1092; &#1090; &#1074;&#1086;&#1076;&#1092;&#1083;&#1074; &#1072;&#1086;&#1092;&#1099;&#1074;&#1076;&#1072;&#1083;&#1092;&#1086; &#1099;&#1074; &#1092;&#1099;&#1076;&#1074;&#1078;&#1083;&#1086;&#1072; </ru></para>
         <ru/>
    </russian>
    When I read it in I get.
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/css" href="test.css"?>
    <russian>
         <para>
              <text>testing</text>
              <ru>???? ???? ???? ????</ru>
         </para>
         <para><ru>? ? ?????? ?????????? ?? ???????? </ru></para>
         <ru/>
    </russian>
    So I can't compare the russian characteres to convert them.
    Is there anyway to read them in and perserve what they are. I don't care what they look like when the come in just that they are distinguishable so I can compare them and change them to the right latin character.
    Thanks for the help.
    Michael

    Thanks for the reply.
    Ok,
    You asked for it so I will give it to you.
    I took your advice and made sure that the encoding was correct. I resaved the xml file as a UTF-8 encoded page in notepad. (It was already UTF8 but I did it anyway) Dreamweaver confirms that the file is indeed of UTF8 encoding. So assuming that if I type in russian letters in notepad and save the file as a UTF8 file then the characters are UTF8.
    So the input file is this.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/css" href="test.css"?>
    <russian>
         <para>
              <text>testing</text>
              <ru>&#1080;&#1076;&#1092;&#1088; &#1080;&#1076;&#1092;&#1088; &#1080;&#1076;&#1092;&#1088; &#1080;&#1076;&#1092;&#1088;</ru>
         </para>
         <para><ru>&#1040; &#1099;&#1092;&#1083;&#1086; &#1092;&#1074;&#1086;&#1072; &#1092;&#1076;&#1083;&#1099; &#1072;&#1086;&#1078;&#1076;&#1072;&#1074; &#1087;&#1083;&#1086;&#1099;&#1076;&#1072;&#1074;&#1086; &#1087;&#1099;&#1072;&#1087; &#1086;</ru></para>
         <ru/>
    </russian>
    I read in the file using this code.
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream("test.xml"), "UTF8"));
                   StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
                   while ((str = in.readLine())!= null){
                        sb.append(str);
                        sb.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
                   theString = sb.toString();
                   System.out.println(theString);
    The System.out.println(theString); outputs this.
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/css" href="test.css"?>
    <russian>
         <para>
              <text>testing</text>
              <ru>???? ???? ???? ????</ru>
         </para>
         <para><ru>? ? ?????? ?????????? ?? ???????? </ru></para>
         <ru/>
    </russian>
    Later on in my program I have an array that compares the russian to the russian character array.
    char[] russianLett = new char[66];
    russianLett[0] = '&#1040;';
    russianLett[1] = '&#1066;';
    russianLett[2] = '&#1042;';
    ETC.... for all capital and lowercase russsian letters.
    So it doesn't find ? in my array and thus returns ?.
    Maybe you can se what is going wrong.

  • Duplicating a site from Engllish to Russian

    I have produced an entire website in ENglish adn the client
    wants it duplicating in Russian, I don't know where to start, whats
    the best solution for this, word count on teh site is aproximately
    9950 words
    The site is made up using CSS style sheets and XHTML.
    I have been told Russian is difficult on the web, as it has
    very different characters?
    Can anyone offer any advice please?

    I concur with Paul G. The biggest problem will be to
    translate from English to Russian. This needs to be done by a
    native Russian speaker who is fluent in English and who understands
    our idioms.
    I personally have not found Russian to be difficult on the
    web. I frequently visit Russian language sites and I have
    downloaded thousands of documents in either Russian or Church
    Slavonic. I am thinking about doing a page in Russian and maybe one
    in French next month.
    As far as keyboards are concerned, there are some free
    keyboards out there which will approximate the English keyboard. I
    have gthem installed on all my boxes which use Windows 2000. I
    can't get them to work on the Windows XP box for some strange
    reasons.
    If you do type in Russian in Dreamweaver, you need to be in
    Design mode, not Code mode. In Code mode you will see nothing but
    strange Latin combinations. In Design mode you will see the actual
    Russian letters.

  • Non-English fonts problems.

    Hello guys,
    I have a problem with non-English (well Cyrillic) font. I faced this problem 3 days ago when was working in iDVD trying to type text there. The problem is if I type in Russian with chosen font it does no appear as its english counterpart. I have tried many of them but it seems all of them (except may be two or three) work same (wrong) way. I have also checked them in other programms and got the same result. I have even checked this in Photoshop CS2 but... guess.. the same!
    I have read lot's of topics but did not find a suitable solution for me although I used some of tips while working on the problem. For example I checked everything in System Preferences and Fonts folders. Everything is ticked/unticked there as appropriate.
    Hope you'll give me a solution.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello Tom,
    thank you for your reply and for dealing with my problem. I am sorry for not being understandable. It may be because English is not my first language. I'll try to explain it in a different way. I was working on iDVD project and tried different fonts. As I was doing the project in both languages (English and Russian) because I wanted them to look the same. For English version I took Monotype Coursiva font (hope I spell right) as it was suitable to the whole theme of the project. When I typed with the same font in Russian it did not look like its English version but still readable (it is not the case of encoding problems when a text you have typed looks as the set of strange symbols). Then I tried Lucida Handwriting and oher having the same result. I have tried CY fonts as well but it was difference in appearence between letters and digits (I typed chapter names like this January 2007 and so on). Digits appeared different to russian letters, actually they were similar to English version.
    I switched to Mac a year ago from Windows and absolutely love it. In Windows I mostly used Word and Power Point to work with text and did not have such problems (hope windows users are not reading this now).
    I think it is related to Apple fonts because I noticed that all the applications share the same Font Book. I have tried different applications on my Mac in order to track the problem down and even Microsoft Office's Word for Mac which I use sometime was not able to do the job I requested. In other words I have same problem. May be my Font Book is not full? May be I need to update or upgrade it?
    Thanks.
    P.S. It's possible that my explanation is a bit complicated and you still cannot understand what the problem is. If so, would it be a good idea to send you some screenshots to be able to show you what I mean?
    If answer is "yes" will you give me your e-mail, please?

  • Hot keys is not working in other keyboard layouts

    Hi!
    Hot keys only work in English keyboard layout, even in Fireworks CS6. For example if you need to type some Russian text you have to swith to English, press "T", switch to Russisn, type in the text, hit "Esc", swith back to English, hit "V". Consumes a lot of time when working with texts.
    Is there any way to fix it?

  • Non-US keyboard layout problem with VNC

    Hi everyone,
    I've got an arch box at work running tigervnc through an ssh tunnel so that I can work from home when I need to.
    Everything is great, as long as I'm using and ASCII keyboard layout.
    When I switch layouts, the keystrokes just don't get through to the server.
    Here's  what I use to switch layouts:
    setxkbmap -layout us,ru -option 'grp:alt_shift_toggle'
    So I need to type in russian, and I hit alt-shift, as usual, and start typing, but nothing is echoed back to me.  I can tell that the keystrokes are just not getting to the destination because if I'm at a terminal and I'm switched to the ru layout and I type something and hit enter, I just get a newline, as if there was nothing typed at all.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Why are the characters mixed up in the session?
    This issue can occur if the keyboard language has been switched on the remote PC while running a remote desktop session. In the case you would like to switch to a different keyboard
    language follow these instructions.
    Important:
    The remote PC selects the system language of the device running the remote desktop client and not the keyboard language. When switching the keyboard language on your device,
    you need to manually switch the keyboard language on the remote PC.
    1. Open settings on your device.
    2. Tap General and then tap International.
    3. Tap Language and select the language running on the remote PC.
    4. Open the RD Client and connect to the remote PC and check if the Windows keyboard language matches the language that you selected.

  • Can the language for spellcheck be detected automatically?

    In my day-to-day work I use 2 languages: English and Russian. But the spellcheck is not detected automatically when I type in Latin or in Cyrillic.
    Actually, it works 2 ways: if I have the current spellcheck language set to Russian, then when I type in English - every single word is underlined. This at least shows that I have the wrong language set for spellcheck...
    But if the spellcheck language is set to English and I type in Russian - nothing is underlined. A bit tricky if I forget to change the spellcheck language - I get the impression that I write everything correctly :)
    I've searched all over Firefox but cannot find the option for spellcheck language to be detected automatically, like in Word, for instance...
    Can this be fixed anyhow?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    After upgrading to version 8.0 and then to 8.0.1 spell check stopped working. I use English and Russian languages and while downloading I chose first time Russian version of Firefox - in that case English couldn't be spelled and then I have downloaded English version - so now Russian cannot be spelled. Everything is "on" in the Options->Tools->and etc., and I have added Switcher manager and added Russian Dictionary...doesn't mater. While typing in Russian - no any other dictionary available except for English. Is that a problem for new version of Firefox and can that be fixed?

  • "Foreign" text in Safari after latest security update

    After reading several posts, I've tried all suggestions, but still get wierd-looking type (maybe Russian), which is also compressed and unlegible. I've tried: reloading Safari, throwing away Safari preference, removing Times Phonetic and Helvetica Fractions fonts, repairing permissions - yet still get the same results.
    I can switch to AOL (within Safari) and same thing happens; logging on to AOL outside Safari is fine - no type wierdness.
    This all started following installation of the latest security update. Any other suggestions on what I can try?
