Type of db for Oracle 9i Portal?

I understand from a previous post that the type of db I need to have in place before installing Oracle 9i AS (and specifically Portal, as the component I need) is either the 8.1.6.2 Enterprise edition or the 8.1.7 Standard edition. Just a few quick questions about that:
Are either of these downloadable as evaluation versions? I saw on the download page that the only closest equivalent might be 8 Server/Enterprise Edition. Would this work?

After reading the release notes for Oracle Standard 8.1.7 for linux, I have a question regarding support for 9iAS and Portal. Will the linux installed Oracle Standard database provide the correct functionality to support 9iAS and Portal? In particular, the last section of the release Oracle Std DB linux release notes titled "Products Not in the 8.1.7 Release on Linux Intel" mentions that JDBC 1.2 and EJB's are not supported. Thus my question.
Thanks in advance for any help or clarifications.

  • Installing Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal error

    Hi,
    I am trying to install the Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal: Framework 11gR1 (11.1.1.4.0) onto a Laptop (500G HDD 8G Ram) running Windows 7 to learn.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/portal/downloads/owcs-portalfw-vbox-284132.html
    I want to run in a VirtualBox Linux setup etc.
    I have downloaded all the files except the REAVDD-HOL-WC.ovf which would not download so I saved in browser to the same directory etc.
    I have set the preferences in Virtual Box to the same directory where I have downloaded the files to but when I Import Applicance and select C:\users\Tony\Virtual Box VMs and select the defaults and import I get an error box stating:
    Failed to import appliance C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC.ovf.
    Could not open the medium storage unit 'C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC-disk1.vmdk'.
    VD: error VERR_ACCESS_DENIED opening image file 'C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).
    Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
    Component: Appliance
    Interface: IAppliance {3059cf9e-25c7-4f0b-9fa5-3c42e441670b}
    Anybody got any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks

    I've imported this appliance (and others) on Windows 7 32-bit on a Lenovo W500, on an iMac, and on a MacBook. The one error you should encounter during the "import appliance" step is a path error related to shared folder (the canned/hard-coded path in the ovf file points to a place that is not likely to exist on your computer, so just comment out the D:\TEMP\Host path, or make it for that matter).
    <!--SharedFolders-->
    <!--SharedFolder name="Host" hostPath="D:\TEMP\Host" writable="false" autoMount="true"/ -->
    <!-- /SharedFolders-->
    You can alter system set memory_target=300M scope=both and set your VM memory to 2.5GB and everything will run fine (using the vmctl script to start up what's needed). The "1" option is all that is needed for the tutorial shown in the documentation. If you run the admin server, you will see things run a good bit slower. Part of the tutorial assumes you know about UCM and how to take the UCM content in the sample files and upload those into the repository. You can delete the file already loaded and then do a single file upload to "re-load" the various directories/folders for the menu/home/etc. Upload the png and other files into the same folder (menu.html, menuBanner.png, etc. all go into the same Menu folder). It's not worth the time to set the bulk upload because you have to go out into UCM and dig around the admin settings, stop/restart, and so on. You can also use the contentadmin user (welcome1) to do the file upload.

  • Where is the download for Oracle Weblogic Portal and current documentation?

    The web page for Oracle Weblogic Portal has a download link, but nothing happens when I click it:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic-portal/downloads/index.html
    I've downloaded the documentation
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic-portal/documentation/index.html
    which is supposed to be for version 10.3, but the dates on the documents are all from 2008. I don't see anything indicating support for JSR 286 in those documents.
    Are there more up-to-date documents for the latest version of Oracle WL Portal?
    Thanks.
    Dean

    Hi Dean
    Looks like that site is down. On Firefox, I checked in Error Console window and it shows some java script error like acceptAgreement is not found etc. This link did worked earlier. I hope they fix it asap. Same problem with IE browser also (java script error).
    Coming to documentation, based on your link, I hope you are using 10.3.2 docs. I clicked on View Library and then select Portlet Development -> Java Portlets link and got this link: This link does cover JSR 286 stuff. For more indepth JSR 286, you can google and get more details.

  • JDBC 2.0, Type 4 Driver for Oracle 8.0.4

    The only oracle JDBC driver that can run with JDK 1.2.x is in the
    OTN download area and is named "816SDK for JDK 1.2"
    it will work with the JDK 1.2.X using the JDBC 1.22 spec from JDK
    1.1.X.
    IT DOES NOT PROVIDE THE FULL JDBC 2.0 FEATURES/ FUNCTIONALITY
    THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE JDK 1.2.X CLASSES.
    you're using a jdk 1.2.x/jdbc 2.0 feature -- which is anticipated
    to be included in the 816 driver later this year -- it's not in
    the "816SDK" JDBC driver you're using now..
    816SDK can be thought of as stepping stone between 815 using jdk
    1.1.x and 816 supporting jdk 1.1.x and 1.2.x.
    i think of it as "8.1.5 and a half" to avoid the naming confusion
    between "816sdk" and "816" .

  • Online Training or Tutorials for Oracle 9iAS Portal Release 2

    Is there any available online training or tutorials for Oracle 9iAS Release 2 that we can download? I checked the FAQ for release 2 and it looks like there are a lot of changes in building pages, content areas and portlets.
    Thanks.

    We'll probably start to release this kind of stuff between the launch and Oracle World Copenhagen - June 02
    Currently we have not published any online training materials.
    Thx

  • Oracle WebLogic Portal 10g Certification

    Hello,
    Oracle provides instructor led training only for Oracle WebLogic Portal 10g. I'm wondering, where can i buy self study CD or kit for Oracle WebLogic Portal 10g Certification?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    I have found certification for "Oracle Weblogic Portal 10g Developer" in the oracle university site. The latest version of BEA weblogic being 10.3 and we are currently working on the same, I would like to know whether there is certification exam for Weblogic Portal 10.3 Developer.A assume you have found:
    [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=140]
    [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=282]
    [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_110]
    Which is the relevant exam. You can double change by going down the list of ceriifcation exams:
    [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=42]
    My understanding is that for developers often releases are broadly similar and therefore the effort in updating the exam is simply unsustainable. For say Oracle DBA exams the situation may be different as their may be signifcant changes/enhancements between releases that are important to be aware of to manager the database effectively.
    Please be aware I am not massively familiar with weblogic and myy anwer is not authorative.

  • No option for creating new portal or portlet in BEA workspace

    hi, i download workshop102_win32.exe from oracle site and installed the software properly.but after Creating a Workspace i didn't find any option for creating portal web project in the "File-->New-->project".
    Their is also no option for creating any portal or portlet also.
    so i think i didn't install a propery software for portal development or i need to install any other extra plugins for portal development in BEA weblogic.
    So, friends please suggest me where i will find the proper software for weblogic portal development.
    I expect your prompt reply, any help will be very appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    1. To have better luck on questions about WebLogic Portal, you may want to post your question in the [WebLogic Portal Forum |http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=573].
    2. are you following any documentation or demo or tutorial/ white paper which asked you to download what you downloaded?
    3. About your question, what you installed seems like the Development Tool for WebLogic.
    For the WebLogic Portal Software, you may want to go to the following page and click the last link in the User Interaction category.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/bea_main.html
    That link is for Oracle WebLogic Portal 10.3 and gives you the file portal103_win32.zip.
    hope that helps!

  • Advanced Development Techniques for Oracle Portal Components

    Hello friends,
    I have the following problem. I have a report and a form (on a
    view) in the same page, and when I select an item of the report
    the form is refreshed with the values associated to the selected
    item. The problem is that it makes it with delay, the first
    selection doesn't show anything and the remaining sample the
    data of the previous selection.
    This application has been developed as Ken Atkins explains in
    its document "Advanced Development Techniques for Oracle Portal
    Components."
    Oracle Portal Version: 3.0.9.8.0
    Thanks in advance.
    This is my code:
    -- REPORT --
    SELECT '<A HREF="http://mipc/portal30/

    v_nombre := v_Session.get_attribute_as_varchar2
    ('nombre_preferencia');
    IF v_nombre IS NOT NULL THEN
    BEGIN
         SELECT rowidtochar(rowid) INTO v_RowID
         FROM ALFONSO.VISTAPREFERENCIAS
         WHERE nombre_preferencia = v_nombre;
    -- VISTAPREFERENCIAS it is the view in which the form is
    based.
    END;
    -- Tell the component that the query is coming from a link,
    and that the rowid
    -- is being used to query the correct context record.
    p_session.set_value (p_block_name=>'DEFAULT',
    p_attribute_name=>'_CALLED_FROM_LINK'
                   ,p_value=>'ROWID');
    -- Pass the rowid of the context record to query.
    p_session.set_value (p_block_name=>'DEFAULT',
    p_attribute_name=> '_ROWID'
                   ,p_value=> v_RowID);
    -- Now do the actual query, using the query button
    processing in the target module

    -- Save the session information, which includes the
    p_session.save_session;
    END IF;
    END;
    /

    You can make the report with a procedure from which you may call to a form by means of a link. It is a possibility, no??
    It is better a example:

  • Error starting Portal or Commerce Server when Configured for Oracle

    I've been attempting to configure Portal 4.0 to work with Oracle. I'm running Oracle
    8i. I carefully followed the instructions found in "Configuring WebLogic Portal for
    Oracle Databases". Specifically, I setup the tablespaces, connection pools and successfully
    run the scripts to populate the tables. I am confident the Oracle OCI driver is configured
    properly (have done this many times). However, after I make all of the necessary
    changes and launch the server, I receive the following error:

    The startup appears to have trouble with the RDBMS security realm. I tried a) leaving
    the settings "as-is", configured for Cloudscape, or b) modified to point to my instance
    of Oracle (are their additional things I need to load in Oracle to support it using
    the RDBMS realm). Is there a way I can disable the security realm to at least get
    the server up-and-running (via the web.xml). I've installed and reinstalled many
    times, trying various combinations of things.
    Any help would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks,

    I finally found this bug in the release notes, i'm surprised one of the bea guys couldn't
    answer this....

    You probably followed the instructions too closely. I had the same
    problem,
    due to
    something that's not quite a "bug" in the installation instructions.Look
    back at
    the section "Update Settings for the RDBMS Security Realm" in thedeployment
    guide
    (http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs40/deploygd/oraclnew.htm#1039294).
    In the table in step 2, they show the URL on top, and the Driverclassname
    underneath
    it. HOWEVER... on the actual data screen, the Driver is on top and the
    URL is underneath
    it. If you're not being very very careful, it's easy to swap thesetwo
    values
    and put the URL in the Driver input box and the Driver in the URL input
    box. Make
    sure you haven't accidentally done this; if you have, you can stillchange
    this in
    the config.xml file (do a text search for an element RDBMSRealm withan
    "name" attribute
    of "wlcsRealm").
    Verify that it looks like this:
    <RDBMSRealm DatabaseDriver="weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver"
    DatabaseURL="jdbc:weblogic:oracle"
    Name="wlcsRealm"
    and not this:
    <RDBMSRealm DatabaseDriver="jdbc:weblogic:oracle"
    DatabaseURL="weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver"
    Name="wlcsRealm"
    Very subtle gotcha...

  • Configuring a Apache Reverse Proxy for OracleAS Portal and OracleAS Single

    I'm trying to implement my Oracle Portal 10g Release 2 with a reverse proxy (Apache 2.2) as described in this link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13998/variants.htm#BEIFECEH without success. I have Oracle Portal, Oracle SSO,OID in the same domain and Apache Reverse Proxy in another domain. Has anyone had success using OracleAS Portal with a reverse proxy?

    First of all i'm trying to configure a reverse proxy only for Ora SSO (infra tier). Here is what i already do:
    APACHE REVERSE PROXY (Apache 2.2)
    http:/proxy.mycompany.com:80
    ProxyRequests off
    ProxyPassInterpolateEnv On
    ProxyPass / http:/portal.tech.everett.it:7777/
    ProxyPassReverse / http:/portal.tech.everett.it:7777/
    ProxyPreserveHost On
    ORACLE SSO
    http:/portal.mycompany.com:7777
    Here are the steps i already do:
    1- CONFIG OID
    create an ldif file called setdasurl.ldif and insert as follow:
    dn:cn=OperationURLs,cn=DAS,cn=Products,cn=OracleContext
    changetype: modify
    replace: orcldasurlbase
    orcldasurlbase: http:/proxy.mycompany.com/
    then do ldapmodify as follow:
    ldapmodify -x -h portal.mycompany.com -p 3060 -D "cn=orcladmin" -w password1 -v -f setdasurl.ldif
    2- CONFIG ORA SSO (as gentjan user)
    export ORACLE_HOME=/home/gentjan/product/10.1.2/OracleAS/infra/
    2.1-config Apache config of ORA SSO
    vi $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf
    change from:
    ServerName portal.mycompany.com
    Port 7777
    KeepAlive On
    to:
    ServerName proxy.mycompany.com
    Port 80
    KeepAlive Off
    and add at the end of httpd.conf
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteOptions inherit
    2.2- update DCM Repository (as root)
    *$ORACLE_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig -ct HTTP_Server -v -d*
    2.3- modify SSO Server Home URL to reverse proxy hostname and port (as root)
    *$ORACLE_HOME/sso/bin/ssocfg.sh http proxy.mycompany.com 80*
    2.4- Updating the targets.xml File
    Open the ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/targets.xml file and locate the target type oracle_sso_server.
    vi $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/targets.xml
    Update the HTTPMachine and HTTPPort attributes with the proxy server host and port attributes that were passed to ssocfg. For example:
    Property NAME="HTTPMachine" VALUE="proxy.mycompany.com"
    Property NAME="HTTPPort" VALUE="80"
    Property NAME="HTTPProtocol" VALUE="http"
    Save and close the file.
    Reload the Application Server Control Console by issuing this command (as gentjan):
    *$ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl reload*
    2.5- Re-register mod_osso on SSO Middle-tier with reverse proxy hostname and port
    some needed permissions
    chmod -R 775 /home/gentjan/product/10.1.2/OracleAS/infra/dcm/
    Re-register mod_osso (as gentjan)
    *$ORACLE_HOME/sso/bin/ssoreg.sh -oracle_home_path /home/gentjan/product/10.1.2/OracleAS/infra -site_name infra.proxy.mycompany.com -config_mod_osso TRUE -mod_osso_url http:/proxy.mycompany.com:80 -update_mode MODIFY*
    2.6- update DCM Repository (as root)
    *$ORACLE_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig -ct HTTP_Server -v -d*
    2.7- Restart OC4J_Security and Oracle HTTP Server at Infrastructure tier
    *$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl restartproc process-type=HTTP_Server*
    *$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl restartproc process-type=OC4J_SECURITY*
    After this modifications my reverse proxy is ok.
    I can access to http:/proxy.mycompany.com:80 and this redirect me to Oracle Application Server Welcome page.
    If i try http:/proxy.mycompany.com/pls/orasso/orasso.home, i can view the SSO Server Home page.
    The problem that i find is when i click to Login page for Oracle SSO.
    I have the following error:
    Forbidden You don't have permission to access /pls/orasso/ORASSO.wwsec_app_priv.login on this server.
    So, in other words i can't do the login/logout under reverse proxy. Anyone can help?

  • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle: Data type is not supported.

    I got the error:
    Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle: Data type is not supported.
    Shortly after upgrading from Oracle 8 to Oracle 9. I was advised to download more up to date oracle drivers, but I was wondering if there was a way to tell what version of the 'OLE DB Provider for Oracle' is already at. Is there a command I can use via SQL Plus or something?

    I have found Microsoft ODBC for Oracle to be more stable than the Microsoft OLEDB for Oracle driver. I have also found both Microsoft ODBC and OLEDB drivers to be more stable than the drivers from Oracle.
    You could always get the latest MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) from Microsoft's MSDN Download site and then get the ODAC (Oracle Data Access Components) from Oracle's OTN Download site. ODAC requires MDAC. And ODAC has the latest drivers.
    I suppose it would help to have the latest patches for your Oracle client software too. Maybe Oracle MetaLink would have these?
    It may even help to have the latest service pack for Visual Studio 6 (Visual C++ 6 and Visual Basic 6) too.
