Type of SSD Have You Installed???

Hello all - I have a T61 with Win Vista Pro and want to find out from those with a similar configuration, what type, brand and size SSD have you installed? How easy it was and how does it continue to operate.
My current HD is 164g and getting quite crowded and slow...
Thanks... bo1953
T61, 6465, Vista

Hello,
I have had good results with Corsair, Crucial, Intel, Kingston and MyDigitalSSD SSDs in my ThinkPads.  In particular, I have used both a 64GB Crucial SSD and an 80GB Intel SSD in my T61p and they both seemed to work fine.  A couple of generalizations:
As hausman pointed out, the latest generation of SSDs operate at faster read/write speeds than the T61-series supports, which is somewhat fixable by installing a modified (non-Lenovo/IBM) BIOS.  I have not done this myself, but from all accounts it seems to work well.  Even if you do not choose to perform this unofficial upgrade, you can still get a faster SSD that operates at the latest speeds.  After all, you might one day get a new computer which fully supports that speed, and you'll be able to re-use the SSD purchased for the T61 in that unit.
Most SSDs are sized for laptop computers (even those which go into desktops) and are the same 2.5" size as their HDD counterparts.  However, 2.5" SATA SSDs come in two heights, the standard 9.5mm height and the shorter 7mm height (used for subnotebooks, ultrabooks and other very portable computers).
You might want to consider getting a 7mm high SSD (which sometimes come with a 2.5mm spacer) and should fit fine into the T61's drive bay.  There's typically no difference in pricing that I've seen for the two heights, since the SSDs themselves are actually circuitboards which are even less than 7mm high—the only difference is in the plastic or metal shroud which surrounds them.
The reason for doing this is, again, future-proofing:  It could be that your next notebook computer only has a 7mm high drive bay, and if you want to re-use your SSD with it, you would need to remove it from its shroud (a warranty-voiding move) and put some kind of insulation around it.  If you go with a 7mm high SSD with a 2.5mm spacer, you can just remove the spacer and the SSD will fit into that new computer without having to do any additional work.
Any SSD that you decide on will be faster than any HDD you install in your T61, but with a little extra planning, you might be able to purchase an SSD that will be re-usable for a longer time.

  • Have you installed RSP yet?

    Hi All,
For those of you who do not already know about Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One I suggest you take some time to read up on this
great free (with active maintenance contract) solution from SAP. Details can be found here
RSP has been around now for a number of years and in order to take advantage of its capabilities and to further optimize our customers operations we make it mandatory to use it.
    Do you know that:
RSP gives an quick overview of your customer’ installation
RSP automates end to end process of database upload
RSP can proactively detect issues in customer’s installation
RSP can automate fix delivery process
RSP provides central reporting system to partner in order to monitor all customer’s installations
A common question is that RSP is some sort of big brother application, I want to assure you here and now that this is absolutely not the case. As you can imagine in SAP, we take data protection seriously, very seriously and are governed by Data Protect Agreements so your data is secure and confidential.
I wanted to give you some heads up about important changes to support service delivery in SAP Business One Product Support which will begin 1st June 2013. Two important changes will come into effect and I would like to inform you about these that you may take proactive measures to ensure continued non-disruptive support.
If you do not already have RSP installed on your customer system, then please reach out to your support provider; request them to install it for you. Installation takes 30-60 minutes in most cases)
As you know we operate on a SAP - Partner - Customer model. Beginning June 1st it will be mandatory to install, configure & upload the system status report to SAP.
System Status Report Mandatory for support services
It will be mandatory to install, configure and upload the System Status Report (SSR) from Remote Support Platform (RSP) for SAP Business One in order to receive support for messages of a technical nature (upgrades, performance & crashes, etc). Failure to upload the SSR to SAP will result  in unnecessary delays in resolving your issues and we would kindly urge you to take proactive measures now to avoid this. We recommend scheduling the SSR task to run every two weeks minimum to receive the most recent information. Should you face any issues installing RSP, then please open a support message with the component (SBO-RSP) and we will be happy to assist you.
    Database uploads only via RSP
SAP Business One Support will only accept database uploads to SAP via remote support platform for SAP Business One. In certain exceptional circumstances STFP may be used but this will constitute a minority of cases. Please take due consideration of this important change to our processes over the next weeks and please plan accordingly to install, configure and upload the System Status Report to SAP. By being prepared now, it will avoid any delays in the processing of your customer support messages.
I encourage you now to begin a discussion and I will try to answer as many of your questions as possible.
    With Kind Regards,
    Paul Finneran

    Hi Dwarak,
The purpose of linking the SAP Business License file in RSP is only to allow RSP reading out the installation and system number of your SAP Business One installation. However you may skip this step while executing the setup wizard and configure it later once you execute the Initialisation wizard.
If you have to enter proxy credentials depends on the proxy configuration itself, e.g. can you browse the Internet only if you applied such credentials into the browser?
Also the proxy settings you may configure it later while executing the Initialisation wizard.
RSP requires an Internet Connection in order to establish connections to SAP's backend and optionally your SAP partner backend via Internet in order to receive lastest RSP Tasks and optionally transfer task results. (Don't worry, no task result will be transferred as long you did not give explicit permission to do so after you reviewed the content)
And just for the Internet connection the proxy settings are required in case a proxy got set up within the environment where remote support platform for SAP Business One got installed.
PS: Please ensure to get latest version and PL of RSP installed (currently RSP 3.1 PL 4). It is in general combatible to all Business One versions.
    Best regards

  • Upgrade Mac Mini 2010 to SSD, have you tried this?

Hi all, and this is my first discussion thread.
I'm currently running my Mac Mini 2010 with a SATA Male to Female cable and ext. SATA power on a WD VelociRaptor 150GB.
The solution isn't really elegant i feel and it generates alot of heat from the drive and some extra noise when loading heavy applications eg. parallels desktop.
I've even up the ram to the max 8GB as well and everything seems zippy so far.
Earlier there are alot of talk about SSDs requiring TRIM on the operating system and as what we know Mac OS X Leopard
does not have integrated TRIM support.
So i'm basically looking at SSD candidates that will:
    - run the power provided by the Mac Mini's (5V) integrated PSU
    - don't require TRIM support to manage garbage collection on the hardware level.
So far, i've only 2 candidates:
    - Crucial RealSSD
    - Kingston V100+
Which one will you shell out for and why?
    Additional question:
    - If i remove the superdrive on my mac mini, can i get a external USB superdrive? is there such a thing at all?

theres no reason why it should not work, plug in the HDMI cable, select the Source input on LCD(HDMI 1/2), if still no picture on the Mini open System Pref>Display : Resolution> it should show 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p and other lower resolutions, just select 1080p and to your right select 60hz. Hope this helps.

  • Have you installed Source Connect?

Platform:  Windows.   Audition CS6.   iLok key registered.  Source Connect Standard 3.1 on 15-Day Free Trial.
Here's where I am with it:
The SC software appears to have downloaded correctly and I'm able to see it on the VST listing in my Audition multitrack.  I can log into SC.  Here are my issues:
    1.     Once I log into the SC window, my cursor changes to a strange icon.  Sort of an angular infinity sign with a red slash through it, but only within the multitrack window.
    2.    When I send an echo test, I hear nothing back.
    3.    When I send an echo test, I get an error message about the Q Manager that SC tells me to ignore.   (uh... OK).
What do I need to do?

  • Solaris 10 SMA is dumping core. Have you installed net-snmp?

It's only happening on afew of the many sparc Solaris 10 servers I support. Oracle no longer supports SMA and has suggested downloading and installing "publicly available 'net-snmp' software". I'm reluctant to download and install open source; the review and approval process in my environment is onerous.
Since net-snmp is bundled with Solaris 11, I'm wondering if it is possible to install Solaris 11 packages on a Solaris 10 server (and net-snmp in particular). If so, perhaps someone can provide tips?

The package formats are not the same between these both release of Solaris. You can still trying to extract the files and then install it in your Solaris 10 machine but this is highly unrecommended and of course unsupported. And I'm not sure that it will work.

  • MOVED: Have you installed Vista on K9N Platinum

This topic has been moved to Operating Systems.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=98052.0

In installed FM 7.2 on Vista. It works ... sort of! What I find is that all the normal functionality is there BUT, if for some reason you hold the shift key a little too long (while selecting text for example), or if you hold down a mouse button too long, FM crashes out big time. So, save your work regularly and be prepared for a few frustrating FM crashes. I've tried this combination on only one PC, so I can't verify whether it's unique to my system, but it is certainly repeatable.

  • Terminal server does not have any installed licenses

Good morning! Faced with a some trouble while configuring Terminal Server (Windows Server 2012 based). I selected licensing mode "Per User" and now I see this message:
“The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and No Redirector Mode, but license server “server name” does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:
Product version: Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    Licensing mode: Per User
    License type: RDS CALs”
So this is trial using of terminal server - I have 25 days yet but already today I can't connect to server using RDP. There is an error message about absent licensing server. How can I activate licenses in trial mode? Thank you for support.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From the error description it seems that your issue caused by setting up different Licensing mode. We need to install the proper RDS CAL on the License server.  If the license server has installed licenses of the other mode, changing the licensing mode
for the terminal server may also resolve the issue.
To change the Licensing mode we can use RD Licensing diagnoser or by PowerShell command.
To change the licensing mode on RDSH/RDVH:
    $obj = gwmi -namespace "Root/CIMV2/TerminalServices" Win32_TerminalServiceSetting
    $obj.ChangeMode(value) - Value can be 2 - per Device, 4 - Per user
Please refer below article for information.
RD Licensing Configuration on Windows Server 2012
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2013/09/20/rd-licensing-configuration-on-windows-server-2012.aspx
Have you installed License server on Server 2012 and you have RDS CAL of Server 2008 R2?
If that’s the case then first you need to purchase the RDS CAL for server 2012 and then you can configure on server 2012 because server 2012\R2 RDS CAL can work with lower version OS but Server 2008 R2 RDS CAL can’t work on Server 2012\R2.
    Please check computability matrix.

I've been trying to get a book sample and a dialogue box comes up saying: To receive book samples, you need a device with the latest versions of iOS and ibooks installed and Automatic Download enabled.  I have iBooks installed and automatic download enabled.  I don't know if it's talking about a new version of iOS on my iphone or my laptop. You people sure like to make things difficult.

    trevbeats,
I had the same problem. It turned out the issue for me was that I had Automatic downloads turned off on my devices!
see below how to turn it on.
Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores on your device.
Tap Sign In if you're not already signed in to the iTunes Store.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Tap On/Off switch to enable or disable Automatic Downloads for each content type.

  • Do the 2011 Macbook Pros with an Apple installed SSD have cooling fans?

Do the 2011 Macbook Pros with an Apple installed SSD have cooling fans? In other words, I pre ordered the 256 SSD option with my purchase from Apple. I have searched and searched the internet for a clear answer. I have called Apple and have gotten contradictory answers. Can anyone definitively answer this question?

It's unbelievable that anyone purporting to represent Apple could have misinformed you in such a ridiculous way. Apple has never produced a MBP that didn't have one or more cooling fans in it. The percentage of total heat generated by a MBP that comes from its hard drive (or SSD) is tiny — I would guess it's considerably less than 5%. The notion that the machine could dispense with cooling fans as a result of switching from a conventional drive to a SSD is laughable.
I can only assume that you posed the question in such a way that it was not clearly understood by the people responding.

  • I want to go back to Snow Leopard but I get "you have to install mac osx.app 23.1.1

I have a new 21.5 iMac I just purchased July 9 so I was able to download Lion for free under the up-to-date program.  After installing Lion I decided I wanted to go back to Snow Leopard for various reasons. When I restart with the original Snow Leopard DVD that came with my machine and holding the C key down, I get the window for Mac OS X install DVD.  I click the icon to install SL and another window pops up stating "You can't use this version of the application. Install Mac OSX.app with this version of Mac OSX. You have to install Mac OSX.app 23.1.1"  To answer the question before hand....I don't have a time machine backup.

Thanks for all your help guys. I had trouble with my first install of Lion, it seemed buggy and when I tried some of the suggestions you offered, my machine did not always react the way it should have. I thought that was weird because it's a new iMac, only three weeks old. Pondini pointed me in the right direction and I think Lion is stable now. This worked after a few tries, not sure why I wasn't getting consistent results but it worked eventually.
    1. Shut the computer down.
    2. Hold "command" and "R" and turn on the computer (I believe this is recovery HD from the internet because it wasn't working from my hard drive)
    3. After a few unsuccessful tries, and repeating #1 and #2, I finally got a window to reinstall Lion. This took about an hour to download and after that things went as expected.
As long as Lion is more stable than it was on my first install, which it seems to be now, I'll just stay with it. After this experience, I would say "make sure you need the features in Lion, and that all your current programs are compatible with Lion before you forge ahead."
    Thanks again

    Hello,
You need to put the Tiger Install Disc in the 2011 iMac, boot the 2011 uMac into Target mode...

Boot the G4 holding the Option or alt key, hopefully the Install Disc in the 2011 iMac will show as a boot choice.
