Typekit and Muse. Specifying alternative fonts

My client wants her website built using a typewriter style font. Obviously the safest option would be to use Courier but it's a little faint on the page. Using Typekit Courier Prime or another alternative will look better.
However in the past I have experienced issues with Typekit and Internet Explorer, I know when it comes to webdesign traditionally speaking you can specify a default list for fonts. (e.g. p{font-family:"Times New Roman", Times, serif} )
What I want is to be able to specify for the browser to use Courier Prime first, then Courier, . . . instead of Arial.
Can you do this in Muse?

  • Typekit and Muse 2014

    Hi all!
I've found problem to find some fonts in Typekit service from Muse menu
For Example, I've found in the Typekit website the "Magistral web" font and added it to my favorit.
But when I've opened Typekit menu from Muse - I couldn't find this type.
Pleas let me know what I'm doing wrong?
And how can I see my favorite Typekit's fonts from Muse or do I have any chances to use generated by Typekit's kit HTML  code in my Muse project?
(Pasting generated HTML code in the HEAD of Master page - seems doesn't work)
    Thank you for any help!

  • Copying code from Typekit and pasting in Muse.

Can someone please, please tell me how to paste Java Script code into Muse that I have copied from TypeKit? I have never dealt with code and don't know a thing about it. The tutorials I've watched don't seem to give any detail except to say "Simply copy the code from TypeKit and easily paste it in your Muse website code place somewhere close to but under <head>".  I don't get it.
Plus I am lost on the "Muse-TypeKit- What TypeKit shows and what I can use, thing". I bought the whole Cloud-Muse-BusinessCatalist-a-Rama because I thought it would be nice to have everything I needed right there. With great quantities of fonts included. Now I'm not sure if  "going live" allows me to use more web-fonts than I can now (just the ones that show up in "design" mode). TypeKit has some faces that I use all the time, but I can't access them.
Maybe if I could just paste that Java Script....
Also The new version of Muse won't download on my Mac. An error shows up when it's almost finished.
    Have a great weekend everybody!

    Hi,
To insert the code in the head section, right click on the page and go to Page Properties -> Metadata.

  • Typekit and Font Management : Still a bit confused

I am still a little confused as to how the new Creative Cloud TypeKit works and how it will or will not effect our workflow.
We currently use Extensis Universal Type Server (UTS). We have a team membership license for Creative Cloud. Does TypeKit interject itself before fonts are loaded from UTS?
If fonts are downloaded to the desktop from TypeKit do I need to copy these into UTS? Should my users mix and match fonts acquired with UTS and TypeKit or maintain the status with UTS? Can you disable TypeKit if this is the case? How can we resolve conflicts with fonts if UTS and TypeKit are running?
Do we need to purchase fonts now that with TypeKit the claim is all fonts from Adobe are free with CC membership? How does this interact with UTS?
Does Adobe still sell fonts if TypeKit being part of the CC subscription implies the complete catalog is free?
How are font licensing issues handled with TypeKit? In the past, font licensing was a big concern in publishing and still very confusing as to use and purchasing.
I have been trying to get a firm understanding of the use and rights of fonts throughout my career and with TypeKit it puts many of my past understandings into perplexity.
Thank you for any answers towards my questions.

I received an email response from and Adobe Rep:
Let me see if I can clear things up here:
    > 1. We currently use Extensis Universal Type Server (UTS). We have a team membership license for Creative Cloud. Does TypeKit interject itself before fonts are loaded from UTS?
A: Unfortunately, I don't have the details here. However, Extensis announced that Typekit can work along side UTS: http://blog.extensis.com/font-management/universal-type-server-now-supports-use-typekit-de sktop-fonts.php
Typekit doesn't install the fonts the same way you would install a perpetual license. I hope that article helps clarify specific questions.
    > 2. If fonts are downloaded to the desktop from TypeKit do I need to copy these into UTS? Should my users mix and match fonts acquired with UTS andTypeKit or maintain the status with UTS? Can you disable TypeKit if this is the case? How can we resolve conflicts with fonts if UTS and TypeKit are running?
A: UTS and Typekit should be able to work at the same time. However, you won't be able to add Typekit fonts to UTS. Each CC Team user would need to sync the fonts from Typekit that they wish to use.
    > 3. Do we need to purchase fonts now that with TypeKit the claim is all fonts from Adobe are free with CC membership? How does this interact with UTS?
A: If the font you need is in Typekit and you have a Portfolio Plan (through Creative Cloud Teams or otherwise) you get access to that font. So, you can sync it from Typekit and use it in desktop apps. If a font isn't available on Typekit, you would need to purchase a perpetual license for the team and add it to UTS like you have with other fonts.
    > 4. Does Adobe still sell fonts if TypeKit being part of the CC subscription implies the complete catalog is free?
A: Currently, you can still purchase perpetual licenses to Adobe owned fonts as well as some other fonts that they resell. However, the Adobe owned fonts and many other commercial fonts are available with a Typekit subscription. Access to Typekit isn't really free. You're paying for it when you pay for Creative Cloud. It's just that Typekit doesn't cost you anything extra since it's included.
    > 5. How are font licensing issues handled with TypeKit? In the past, font licensing was a big concern in publishing and still very confusing as to use and purchasing.
A: This article is a good place to start: http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/1341590-typekit-font-licensing
If you have specific questions about licensing or use cases, feel free to ask.I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.
    Cheers,

    Any work around?
    Thanks

    Hi Zak
Thank you for your prompt response.
I have been reviewing this issue on a number of screens an Browsers – I realise the huge hassle of compatibility comments.
Below links and further explanation and screen shots
    Thanks again
    Milton
Web safe fonts (e.g. helvetica / arial) render poorly when:
Any ‘composition’ is set below the text and the 'composition' is set to ‘pin’
See first scroll page at www.edehorton.com
The top slideshow is 'pinned' and it is this action that creates the issue for text on the whole page.
It also occurs when text is on top of a ‘Browser Fill’  that has an ‘Image added’  and ‘scrolling’ check box left unchecked’
See first scroll page a www.edehorton.com/judaica.html
creates the issue for text on the whole page.
I can remedy these  situations by ‘unpinning' the 'compostion’ or placing the ‘pinned' 'composition' above the text
or in the second instance by turning the ‘scrolling’ radio check button in ‘Browser fill’  on.
    Screen snap shots below
Comparison 'Web safe font - Helvetica' plus 'Webfont' render
Chrome = all good / Firefox = all good /Safari running on ‘retina’ displays = all good Safari 5.06 on' non-retina' = all good

  • How do I get sync to work again with Typekit and Creative Cloud?

I have been using my CC apps with Typekit and it was syncing fine. Now for that last few days I am getting a sync error message. More info is useless—blames lack of an internet connection which is not accurate.  I've turned sync off and on, remove and readied the fonts from type kit. Closed out and logged back in to CC app. Nothing is working. I have two DSL lines both of which are working and have tried it connected to each in turn. Still cannot sync.
I am now online with Adobe phone support after a 2-hr wait for the call back. Just told my story again. On hold. Now they tell me Adobe can't do anything other than read the same troubleshooting docs that Typekit has on their site (which I've already done). This alliance only works if Adobe and Typekit work together. I've already emailed twice and tweeted to Typekit and gotten ZERO response. I was pretty emphatic with the guy in Adobe tech support and he said he would escalate it to the India "Dream Team." Hopefully they will be more dream than nightmare.

    Hello,
I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this. Typekit Support did not recieve your email, and didn't realize you were waiting for a reply. I do apologize for that.
Would you please send your recent log files to [email protected] so that we can take a look?  I've included the instructions below. It sounds like there may be a problem with your computer reaching the Creative Cloud servers, and the logs will have more information.
Please let me know when you have sent that email, so that we can watch for it.  Thank you,

  • I have created an editable PDF via Adobe Indesign. When I open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, is there a way to specify a font style? Or is there a way in InDesign to make sure when someone type in that text field it is a certain font?

I need to make sure the text that is entered is a certain font to keep it continuous with the rest of the document. Thank you!

To go into form editing mode, select "Prepare Form" in the right hand pane. You'll then get a toolbar along the top that contains the various form-related tools. The first thing to do is add a temporary button. You'll use this to determine the name of the font for use with the script as well as place the script that will change the font properties of the text fields. So create a button anywhere, double-click it to bring up the field properties dialog, and on the Actions tab add a JavaScript action to the Mouse Up event that is:
// Mouse Up script for temporary button
    app.alert(event.target.textFont);
On the Appearance tab, select the font that you want to use for the text fields. Once you've done that, close form editing mode and click the button. It will display a popup that will list the font name. This may be different than the name that appeared in the dropdown on the appearance tab, so write it down. For example, when I chose "Minion Pro" from the dropdown, the popup showed "MinionPro-Regular".
The next step is to replace that Mouse Up script with the following:
// Mouse Up script for temporary button
// Change the font and font size for all text field in this document
    for (var i = 0; i < numFields; i++) {
        var f = getField(getNthFieldName(i));
        if (f.type === "text") {
            f.textFont = "MinionPro-Regular";
            f.textSize = 9;
Replace "MinionPro-Regular" with the font name that you wrote down before and set the font size to whatever you want. Use 0 to specify a font size of "Auto".
This script will change the font of all text fields to whatever you specify. When you've confirmed that the text fields are set up as you want, you can go ahead and delete or hide the button. If you think you'll be doing a lot of forms work, you can create custom tools in Acrobat to speed up this process, but this should get you started. InDesign won't let you specify a lot of field properties and actions, so you have to work this way, and using automation scripts is an accessible way to significantly speed up the process and avoid mistakes.

  • Acrobat Form Fill Fields - Can you specify a font?

I am using the new feature of InDesign CS6 that allows creation of form fields for PDFs. After exporting the page to PDF via the interactive setup dialog [command+E 'Adobe PDF (interactive)] I'll inspect the finished PDF in Acrobat 9. Everything looks as it should, except that when I type in some sample text in a text field, it uses Times Roman as the font. I would like it to use Arial regular.
I can't find any way to specify a font for these form fields in InDesign CS6. This particular project involves quite a large number of files - so I'd rather avoid a process that requires me to go in to Acrobat and 'tweak' each PDF, changing the font in the properties dialog of each field to the Arial.
Is there a way to set the font of a form field directly in InDesign? I've looked around and can't find a menu or dialog that addresses this.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You can edit the typeface used in your text fields in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Create your form with all the appropriate text fields you would like in InDesign CS6 then:
export your form from InDesign CS6 as an interactive PDF
open your file in Adobe Acrobat Pro
Click "TOOLS" on the right hand side (next to sign and comment)
    Click "INTERACTIVE OBJECTS"
    Click "SELECT OBJECT"
Then select all or any text fields you would like to changeif selected the text field should appear blue, not red, as well as displaying the description (if you assigned one while creating your form in InDesign)
Once selected RIGHT CICK (if using a MAC or mouse without a right click button press crtl + click your mouse)
a pop-up should appear and the at the top of the list you will see PROPERTIES
click properties and go to APPEARANCE
under the TEXT section you will see options to alter your text fields designated typeface, color and size
NOTE: I believe if the user filling out the form does not have the typeface you assigned to the text field(s) it will default to New Times Roman

  • Typekit is deleting my synced fonts...

I am having issues with fonts and Typekit. I go to manage fonts, or sync a font, and Typekit deletes all fonts.
I can see all the fonts that I just synced in the CC app, but as soon as I click "Manage Fonts" and the Typekit website loads, it shows no fonts.
Then I'll get a notification from the CC app stating that X number of fonts have been removed.
I am not over my synced font limit (obviously, because I have no fonts!) I am running the latest version of OS X Mavericks and Adobe CC.
    Any help is appreciated,

    Hi Jordan,
I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this!  Would you please send your Adobe ID to [email protected]?  We'll take a look and see why the fonts aren't staying selected on your account.
It would also be useful if you'd include a few of your recent log files.

    * Open the Finder
    * under the Go menu, select "Go To Folder"
    * in the window that opens, type:  /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/
Remember to replace "(username)" with your own account name.
Or if you are comfortable working from the Terminal:
    cd $HOME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/
Attach the 3 or 4 most recent CoreSync-yyyy-MM-dd.log files to an email. Please don't send a zip file, as they often get flagged as spam.

  • How to specify 'Chinese' font?

    Hi,
I can programatically generate a PDF document with English characters.
I can programatically generate a PDF document containing Japanese characters.
BUT...I cannot get 'CHinese' characters to work.
For Japanese I specify the fonts as follows...
    4 0 obj<< /Type /Font /Subtype /Type0 /Name /F1 /BaseFont /MS-Mincho /DescendantFonts [ 5 0 R] /Encoding /90ms-RKSJ-H >>endobj
    5 0 obj<< /Type /Font /Subtype /CIDFontType0 /BaseFont /MS-Mincho /FontDescriptor 6 0 R /CIDSystemInfo << /Registry (Adobe) /Ordering (Japan1) /Supplement 2 >> /DW 1000 /W [231 324 500 326 389 500] >>endobj
    6 0 obj<< /FontName /MS-Mincho /Descent 0 /FontBBox [ 0 0 1000 1000 ] /CapHeight 1000 /Ascent 1000 /StemV 100 /Flags 4 /ItalicAngle 0 /Type /FontDescriptor >>endobj
    ...how do I specify 'Chinese'?
    Kind regards,
    Simon

    Hi Leonard,
    I found the solution. Hurrah!
I was able to set the width (spacing) of the Latin glyphs, without affecting Chinese glyphs.
*** In the problematic PDF the font was defined as follows:
    4 0 obj<< /Type /Font /Subtype /Type0 /Name /F1 /BaseFont /SimSun /DescendantFonts [ 5 0 R] /Encoding /GB-EUC-H >>endobj
    5 0 obj<< /Type /Font /Subtype /CIDFontType0 /BaseFont /SimSun /FontDescriptor 6 0 R /CIDSystemInfo << /Registry (Adobe) /Ordering (GB1) /Supplement 2 >> /DW 1000 >>endobj
    6 0 obj<< /FontName /SimSun /Descent 0 /FontBBox [ 0 0 0 0] /CapHeight 1000 /Ascent 1000 /StemV 100 /Flags 4 /ItalicAngle 0 /Type /FontDescriptor >>endobj
*** In mysolution PDF I have defined my font as follows:
    4 0 obj<< /Type /Font /Subtype /Type0 /Name /F1 /BaseFont /SimSun /DescendantFonts [ 5 0 R] /Encoding /GB-EUC-H >>endobj
    5 0 obj<< /Type /Font /Subtype /CIDFontType0 /BaseFont /SimSun /FontDescriptor 6 0 R /CIDSystemInfo << /Registry (Adobe) /Ordering (GB1) /Supplement 2 >>
    /DW 1000 /DW 1000 /W [1 95 500 814 907 500 7712 7716 500] >>endobj
    6 0 obj<< /FontName /SimSun /Descent 0 /FontBBox [ 0 0 0 0] /CapHeight 1000 /Ascent 1000 /StemV 1000 /Flags 4 /ItalicAngle 0 /Type /FontDescriptor >>endobj
    * Notice the additional entry /W [1 95 500 814 907 500 7712 7716 500].
This sets the CIDs 1-95, 814-907 and 7712-776 to be 500, which is half the DW value of 1000.
*** How did I determine the CIDs of the Latin characters?
The answer was located in 'Adobe CJKV Character
    Collections and CMaps for
    CID-Keyed Fonts', (see http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/font/5094.CJK_CID.pdf).
    See section 2.1:
"...Supplement 0 (zero) of Adobe-GB1 enumerates 7,717 glyphs (CIDs 0
through 7716), provides support for the GB 2312-80 and GB 1988-89
character set standards, incorporates corrections and additions specified in
GB 6345.1-86, and includes vertical glyphs specified in GB/T 12345-90.
CIDs 195 and 77127715 are proportional-width Latin glyphs; and CIDs
    814907 and 7716 are half-width Latin glyphs.".
    Kind regards,

  • Typekit and InDesign CC

I'ver installed a Typekit font and used it in InDesign CC.
But now, when I start InDesign, InDesign gives an error the the font is not loaded.
But in  my CC I see it is installed.
How can I solve this problem?

    Hi Benjamin,
    Thnx, here the answers:
    - Could you tell me if you're on the Windows/Mac OS X and the version?
    Mac OS 10.8.5
    - Could you check version of the Creative Cloud app you're using and let me
know which version it is? This can be found under: Gear > Preferences >
    General > Account
    2.1.2.232?
    - Could you try quitting/restarting the Creative Cloud app. Did this solve
    the issue?
    Removed it several times
    - Could you try Turning File and Font Sync off under the gear. Wait a
second, then turn it back on. See if the font/s show up and if not, try
syncing again. Did this solve it?
    No
If none of those worked, would you attach the CoreSync files and send those
    over?
On the Mac, the folder can be found here:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/CoreSync-yyyy-mm-dd.log
(You'll want to open the Finder, click Go, in the menu, hold down the
"option" key and you'll see the Library folder.)
    On Windows:
You can find the files under: C:\Users\user
    name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CoreSync\coreSync-2013-08-xx.log
I know this is a lot. Thanks for your help here. Let me know and we'll take
    it from there.
I hope you can find out something?
