Typekit, CC and print vendors

When you're collecting for output/packaging a print project from InDesign and you're using Adobe Typekit, the Typekit fonts will not be packaged. Will there be any sort of warning or message so that both the artist and the print vendor are aware those fonts need to be replaced? Other than that the fonts are missing? It would also be helpful if the message mentioned Typekit so that the vendor knew where to obtain the fonts. I speak from experience, being both a designer and working for a commercial printer. Knowing whether to apply our Typekit fonts or to go back to the client for the fonts is very important. Since many fonts come in slightly different variations we always try to use the client's fonts rather than just tracking down something named the same (or close).
Thanks!

What happens when the printer has CS6, or even 5.5?
You can save the file as an IDML, or even a PDF, but if you want to save it as a PDF with type (for future editing) that requires them to have the fonts ANYWAY, No?
And from what I've VERY unfortunately learned, CC programs will not cross recognize fonts from the older CS programs with it's current fonts.
Example: My resume is graphic based and uses Minion Pro and Arno Pro. I wiped out my computer because I don't use it for anything more than graphics processing at this point in time, and somehow my fonts fell by the wayside and weren't saved (I almost cried) but I Figured it wasn't a big deal because I could download all of those that I was missing from their respective sites again. Well... when I "Synced" Arno and Minion to my computer and I opened the Indd file that is my resume, InDesign didn't recognize the fonts, and told me they were missing, and that I had to replace them... NOT something I wanted to see.
So I ended up redefining the styles, but that's not something I'm going to want to do all the time, and is going to cause MAJOR problems if I have to edit an older magazine to make it portfolio worthy.
Typekit has me immensely concerned as well.

  • How to print vendor ref. no. in out going payment.

    hi all,
i want to print vendor ref. no in out going payment pld.
hw to get it in pld?
    regards,
    chetan.

    Hi Chetan
In the VPM2 Table look for the field DocEntry, Join it on OPCH.DocEntry, and then look for NumAtCard in OPCH to find out the vendor's Ref No
    the following query expains it
    SELECT     dbo.OVPM.CardName, dbo.VPM2.SumApplied, dbo.OPCH.NumAtCard
    FROM         dbo.OVPM INNER JOIN
                          dbo.VPM2 ON dbo.OVPM.DocNum = dbo.VPM2.DocNum INNER JOIN
                          dbo.OPCH ON dbo.VPM2.DocEntry = dbo.OPCH.DocEntry
    WHERE     (dbo.OVPM.DocEntry = %x%)
I hope this now solves your problem!! Cheers

  • Graph legend and print options

When building a graph using the graphTable bean, I'd like to place the legend below the graph instead of above. How can this be done?
Also, the graph plots a number of lines, each of which is rendered in a different color. Is there a way to make the graph lines cross-hatched, or dotted, or something else so that when printed in black and white the user is able to associate the graph line with the legend?

    Hi,
Take a look at SAP note #1049778. For recent releases, the device type HP4350 should be already available in transaction SPAD n the system.
Also as per SAP note #1049778, most of the new device types that were developed within the SAP Printer Vendor program (SAP note #1130927) support the new print options.(see SAP note #1103422)

  • How to print vendor #'s on checks

    1. How to print vendor #'s on checks
    2. How to print checks alphabetically
    3. The Posting Date is printing on checks instead of Invoice date
    4. Seperate checks are printing for vendors instead of several invoices on one check. The individual payment is not marked for these vendors in the Vendor Master screen.

    Hello,
    1. Create a new form and add this info.
    3. Check from where the form is retrieving the data. If you're using Zform you can adapt it to meet your requirements.
    4. Check FBZP for this payment method in the respective company code. Check if "single payment per marked item" is flagged.
    Hope this helps!

  • Develop a form and print program using VBAP, VBAK, MRKT.

I have 2 tables VBAK [fields: VBELN, ERDAT, ERNAM, AUDAT, VBTYP, VKORG] and VBAP [Fields: POSNR, MATNR, CHARG, WAERK] and In output(form) i need the following fields,
    Output table:
    -VBELN
    -ERDAT
    -VKORG
    -POSNR
    -MATNR
-MAKTX <- this field is from table MAKT. (I need the Material descriptions too for all the materials.)
Form Layout should have Header, Logo (SAP ENJOY), Main, Footer.
Problem is that i need footer only after the End of Complete data in Main Window, thats is footer should be placed only in last window. How should i do that ?
Logic which i thot to make the print program is : First declare an internal table itab1 with VBAP, VBAP using the above fields from two tables and fetch the product based on matnr.
declare one internal table itab2 and select the records from the table makt by checking the condition itab1 is not initial.
    sample code.
    IF ITAB1 IS NOT INITIAL.
SELECT FIELD LIST FROM MAKT INTO TABLE ITAB2 WHERE MATNR EQ ITAB1-MATNR.
    ENDIF.
    hope this shuld work. ?????

The print program is used to print forms. The program retieves the necesary data from datbase tables, defines the order of in which text elements are printed, chooses a form for printing and selects an output device and print options.
    Function modules in a printprogram:
    • When you print a form you must used the staments OPEN_FORM and CLOSE_FORM. To combine forms into a single spool request use START_FORM and END_FORM.
    • To print textelements in a form use WRITE_FORM. The order in which the textelements are printed, is determined by the order of the WRITE_FORM statements. Note: for printing lines in the body, you can also use the WRITE_FORM_LINES function module.
    • To transfer control command to a form use CONTROL_FORM.

  • Device type and print options

    Hi all,
The device type HP LJ 4350 enables print options and allow us to set which paper tray is to used in a specific form.
However, our usual supplier does not sell this device type anymore.
Does anyone know another device type that could allow tray configuration in the SPAD transaction?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Take a look at SAP note #1049778. For recent releases, the device type HP4350 should be already available in transaction SPAD n the system.
Also as per SAP note #1049778, most of the new device types that were developed within the SAP Printer Vendor program (SAP note #1130927) support the new print options.(see SAP note #1103422)

I scanned an old image using my Epson NX515 printer, used GIMP to make some minor repairs on the image and printed it out.  I noticed there were a number of evenly spaced thin blue lines across the image, approximately six of them. I opened & printed the image on my PC using PAINT.NET.  No lines appeared. I sent the image to my daughter. She printed it and found no lines. I printed the image using Seahorse on my Mac and the lines still appeared. I used basically the same print settings on Mac and PC.

did so now, only now I'm getting a slightly different error: could not find udevd no such file or directory. I checked both grub.cfg's and my mkinitcpio.conf and there's no listing for udevd ....which I've never heard of, so I assumed it was a typo?
For clarification: udev is in the mkinitcpio.
I'm not sure whether I yet have a good intuition for how you have your machine set up, but I suspect you need to include a cryptdevice flag to the kernel in your grub config. The file isn't found because the kernel doesn't know your root directory needs decrypting first.
My setup is an LVM over LUKS over LVM sandwich. To boot into my system, the grub.cfg contains the line:
    linux /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/mapper/cryptvg-root cryptdevice=/dev/mapper/vg-crypt:root rootfstype=ext4 pcie_aspm=force acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 ro
Now, most of those flags don't have anything to do with your problem, but note the cryptdevice. It tells the kernel it's dealing with an encrypted filesystem sitting in a logical volume called crypt on a volume group called vg. The bit after the colon tells the kernel to associate this encrypted filesystem with /dev/mapper/root.
As for how to fix your system, I'm afraid I still feel a bit fuzzy about how your LVM and encrypted layers relate to each other, whether you have LVM over LUKS, or LUKS over LVM, or something else. Was there a particular how-to that you followed?

  • Colors and printing

    Hi,
What a wonderful week I have spent immersed in the glorious world of printer/colour calibration :-)
I recently purchsed some new printers for the artroom department under the guidelines that we wouldnt need a calibrated printer(alas it seems we do and someone didnt realise). I did not know anything about colour, Adobe prducts and just how much there was to all of this before last week. My background is in servers and networking. So I unleased a rather large can of worms it seems
I have read a lot over the last week, printed an awful lot (a particulalry gregarious sponge pudding) and had a good play with Adobe illustrator to see what is going on. The story starts that one of our designers logged a call in the helpdesk saying that what they were seeing on their screen was not what they were getting out of the printer. So I went down to investigate....
On her screen the background of the sponge pudding is sea green however when she sends the print job to the new printer it comes out sea blue. Now, to me that seemed really out. I can imagine that shades of blue would be out alittle on a non calibrated printer or shades of green but now whole colours out. So we had the printer company in who we lease the printers off and the printer was recalibrated using color charts. Its not a pantone printer and we are using the PCL 6 driver (which I will come to later). I downloaded the free trial version of illustrator and opened the image on my computer and guess what.... my image is sea blue. So I think to myself thats odd, very odd. I then borrow a colourmunki off another manager and calibrate my screen and still the background of the sponge pud is blue AND it prints fine (well as good a match as I think we are going to get). At this point I think, right its the designers monitor. SO I go back to her and she says "ah but the sea green I see in Adobe is color matched to Pantone number 352". So I have a look and sure enough it is. However, I have no idea how she has created this pantone color in her adobe illustrator. Perhaps she created the color on her uncalibrated screen and she thinks its sea green but its not. However as it prints out blue from both my pc and her hers but the pantone matches on hers (sea green to sea green) I start getting very confused...
So I opt to read further about work spaces, assigning profiles, CMYK work spaces, RGB etc etc. To clarify all that:
1.) I set up my mahcine with a sRGB work space using FOGRA37 (or something like that) for CMYK. I ensured that I assign this profile to the sponge pudding. I then check my printer presets. My printer is PCL6 so there are limited options but I set the output to sRGB (and even try printing to bitmap). I print out the image and it looks again pretty close to what is on my screen. However, if I drop the color setting back to Adobe illustrator version 6 (it goes sea green on my monitor!!! and it prints out sea green!!. SO I am even more confused at that point.
2.) I apply the same settings above on her machine (same workspace settings, same profile assigned to the image and same printer settings). The image is still green on her screen but prints out blue.
At that point I want to weep!.
I then opened up the same doc on two different designers pc's and sure enough they are verging on blue, cloer to blue than the green she is getting (and the pantone green in the booklet). SO now I have 3 pc's with all the same workspace, profile and printer presets which show the image as blue (or near enough) but her machine shows it as sea green and matches the pantone.
We are hopefully getting the postscript driver activation key tommorow to see if it helps. I guess if anyone has any helpful tips or maybe there is something I am missing.
What I do find expecially wierd is that when I open the sponge pud on her machine, for a very brief instant its blue and then it goes sea green. The bit thats confusing me is why it matches the pantone color chart. Her monitor isnt even calibrated. Yet mine is and its blue on mine. She showed me the CYMK breakdown (I think it was 57,0,28,0). However, looking online the CMYK shows as sea green (I just tried it in a color calculator app online)
    thanks,
    Paul
p.s. will buy beer for anyone who can help!!!

You're going to need a third party application that will calibrate the monitor and calibrate the printer.  I've had good luck with the x-Rite Spectrophotometer and Monaco Proof.  You do not supply any info on the monitor or the printer.  But, let me try to address some of your concerns:
"1.) I set up my mahcine with a sRGB work space using FOGRA37 (or something like that) for CMYK. SO I am even more confused at that point."
    - Color settings can be applied in Bridge if you have the entire CS.  sRGB is not the RGB color space you want and I'm not sure about Fogra.  Print drivers under PCL6 are pretty good, but you will benefit from a Postscript level 3 RIP which can better match Pantone color.  Pantone 532C is a light Green.  I found CMYK equivalents = 27C, 25Y.  If you're referencing a 57C, 25Y formula, then the color will be more Blue than Green.  I would recommend getting someone experienced in color management to calibrate your PC's, their monitors, and your printers ( preferably after you've gotten the Postscript upgrade.  A typical print workflow will call for an RGB color space = Adobe RGB 1998; a CMYK color space of SWOP or G7.  Have "Use Black Point Compensation" selected.  And, for all of your applications: "Preserve Embedded Profiles" and/or "Ask When Opening".  IMPORTANT: get in the habit of referring to actual Pantone printed color guides and not your monitor.  Now, if someone has applied a Pantone color to an element in Ai; non-Postscript printers will have difficulty converting that color in a standard print driver...even PCL6.
2.) I apply the same settings above on her machine (same workspace settings, same profile assigned to the image and same printer settings). The image is still green on her screen but prints out blue.
    - Again, that is a color conversion problem within the standard print driver.  The beauty of a Postscript Level 3 Proofer is that they have color conversion tables loaded and used in printing the Pantone 352.  And, as good as Postscript level 3 Proofers are, they cannot match all Pantone Spot Colors.  But, I suspect the Pantone 352 is an easy color to match for a proofer.  Not so much on a standard, non-Postscript desktop inkjet printer.  It may be beneficial for everyone to create a swatch of 27C and 25Y using CMYK color percentages and apply that to the Ai element.  Try it and see if you get better results.  Some will say that converting to PDF will be a workaround.  Again, get someone in there that knows what they are doing.  They will be able to help.  You might want to contact a local print vendor and see if they have someone who can help.  It has to be someone on-site who can see what you have in place for software and hardware.
Over time, you will start to understand the fundamentals in a solid workflow.  It's getting there that is the frustrating part.

  • Using Typekit fonts in print projects

I have just started using a Typekit font for my demonstrations.
However, I am interested in using it for my next book but I have questions.
Are the Typekit fonts suitable for print production? They are listed as OpenType. Is that ordinary OpenType?
The Typekit fonts don't show up in the Documet Fonts folder when the job is packaged? If I have to send native ID files to my publisher, what would they have to have to edit the job?
Are the fonts embedded in PDF files?
Anyone have any caveats I should know about?

    Mario,
There is absolutely nothing underhanded about what Ben is telling you.
There are two ways you can use the Typekit fonts for print publishing workflows.
    (1)     The first way is to compose in InDesign with the Typekit fonts as you would with any fonts that you have otherwise licensed and have installed on your desktop system. For the purposes of printing, export PDF (preferably PDF/X-4 settings) and send the resultant PDF file to your print service provider. All the Typekit fonts are properly embedded in the PDF file and your print service provider should have no issues with printing the text formatted with said fonts.
    (2)     The second method assumes that your print service provider (or some intermediary) is going to be doing further edits to your work before producing the PDF file that you would have created per (1) above. Typically you would “package” such documents into a directory structure that copies linked content and fonts. The only difference with the Typekit fonts is that such fonts are not included in the package. But since whoever is going to do those further edits and/or PDF export also needs the CC version of InDesign, they will also have access to the same Typekit fonts that you do via the Creative Cloud software. There is no need to package the fonts from them. If they have older CS versions of InDesign, they will not be able to open your CC version InDesign document anyway.
So what is exactly the problem you are complaining about? You have access to the fonts. Your print service provider has access to the fonts (assuming they have the software necessary to even open up your InDesign document).
The only difference is that Typekti fonts are not available as “loose” font files. You can't install them on any system that isn't currently licensed for the Adobe Creative Cloud.
(For what it is worth, common practice notwithstanding, the ability to package the fonts - other than Typekit fonts and certain Asian fonts - used in an InDesign document does not free the recipient of the obligation to fully and properly license such fonts. The packaging operation is provided as a convenience, not as a substitute for properly licensing the digital assets in question!)

  • Java and Printing

I would like to know if it is possible to do the following:
    1. print from java a file to a printer without user intervention
ie: file enters directory, it is picked up and printed to 'X' printer
Can this be done explicitly declaring the printer from possibly dozen plus printers without the need for user to be selecting a printer.
    2. can java interrogate a printer to find out if it is up and running, busy, paper jam etc...
can it be done without user having to select specific printer, can it be primed to look for a specific queue or printer.
    3. can print jobs be 'watched' to identify their status and take appropriate actions if the print fails, succeeds etc.
I have not had much luck figuring out 1 or 2, but I believe 3 can be done using javax.
I am relatively new to java programming, system changes and the decommissioning of legacy system means some things need porting.
I can supply further info if required or needed.
    tah,
    D.

There is a lot out there and I have been trawling through various tutorials but even taking them apart and pasting back together they dont seem to fit.
The file will always be a specific format, we have a specific situation to which our current system is being decomissioned and need to find replacement and prefer to use Java as its part of JCAPS/eGate that is handling out integration with outside applications.
Basically a vendor supplies us with a file (poscript or pcl) we then need to direct the file to a set printer in a department, I have worked this out file name has id marker and from id we look at an Oracle DB to get destination. Then we need to print and verify print has completed.
that is check printer ready before print, then print, monitor print job to make sure it has printed, if error occurred then do some action and ensure job is removed from printer (rather than it storing in printer memory and a squillion copies coming out when printer fixed)
I will revist the tutorials again, some issues I am having are around telling which printer to use, is the name exactly the same as windows drop down list, I have a cobbled together sample from tutorials but its flopping.
Thanks for help will relook at the tutes now. :)

    Hi bdtcop,
I understand that you are experiencing an issue with AirPrint. Here is an article for you with some troubleshooting steps that may be helpful for resolving this issue:
    About AirPrint
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
    If you're unable to print
Check these things if you are unable to print, or if you see the message "No AirPrint Printers Found."
Make sure your printer has paper, and enough ink or toner installed.
Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
Make sure your printer has power and is turned on. Try turning your printer off and then back on again to see if it resolves your issue.
Check to see if your printer has any error lights or indicators displayed on the printer's control panel. Check the documentation that came with your printer to clear any errors displayed.
Check with your printer's manufacturer to see if any firmware updates are available for your printer. Check your printer's documentation or contact the printer vendor for more information. A firmware update may be available, even if you just bought your printer.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!
