Typewriter in Acrobat 6

I have searched the forums but nothing to answer this specifically. Is it available in 6.x?
Thank you

In AA6 you can use the Text Box tool under Tools>Advanced Commenting. You can use the properties toolbar to change the font properties when in typing mode. If you just select the box, you can resize it or adjust the border and background colors with the properties bar. If you click the box again, you will go back to the typing mode and the properties toolbar will change accordingly. This Text Box tool is the old form of the Typewriter tool for AA6 in my view. At least it might meet your need.

Typewriter in Acrobat Pro 9 is now only typing in 'Comments' & not on the page. What is wrong?  I opened a pdf document > clicked the typewriter button > the usual 'A_' showed > I clicked on the document were I wanted to enter text > when finished I clicked 'save'. At this point the text disappeared from the page. I did it again and again the text disappeared.
After several attempts to find the text I noticed that the text was in the 'Comments' section. How in the world did it end up in Comments?
I did notice that when I clicked on the page with the 'A_' curser the mouse pointer remained as 'A_' even though the standard blinking curser showed on the page.
There is porbably an easy fix for this but I have not located it. How do I have the 'Typewriter' function type on the 'Page' and not in the 'Comments'?  Thanks
PS: I wasn't certain were to post this question. If this is the incorrect sub-forum please advise were to post. Thanks again.

Thank you George. I searched the register key you had from the previous message "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\7.0\Annots\cAnnots\cFreeText_003aFreeTextTypewriter"
and found http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2006/10/typewriter_tool/ followed the instructions to locate and change the Registry.
It works. The text shows on the page as it had before on other pages.

  • Typewriter tool Acrobat 9

    UPDATE 2:
Please see attached simpl scanned file.
When I first open it Typewriter tool works just fine.
If I extract a page from it, not deleting the page, then the typewriter tool only allows typing text and not modifying anything like spacing, etc.
    Update:
    Just ran a test:
    1) I extracted the entire document to help enable the typewriter tool editi features. Tested the extracted file and everything works as expected.
    2) I extracted one page out of this new document. The problem re-appeared.
So what it means is that when I extract a page the typewriter tool gets set to disable editing features.
    Strange?

    Hello.
My office just upgraded us to Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 on our XP- Pro.
The Typewrighter tool works unpredictably. In some cases you can type text in but you are not allowed to change its size, spacing and so on. The features are dimmed out. I am working on a file with multiple sheets which are originally scanned into pdf. What I found out is when the problem comes up, if I extract all the sheets into another file the problem goes away and then comes back up after a while, requiring me to re-extract the entrie document.
I have checked file settings and the security setting is always set to none.
Some of the things I am doing to these files (engineering drawings) is I am cropping a portion of the drawing and then extracting that page, saving it into its own unique file. Then I am undoing the cropping and moving on to other things. In some cases I am placing annotations on the files. I don't beieve any of these activities should be causing unpredictable performance of the Typewriter tool.
I have searched KB and all over the internet and have not seen any doscussions on this.
I would appreciate any insight that anyone can bring to us.

    Hi Anna.
I just updated to 9.2 and the problem still persists.
The test should not be on the extracted page/file. The test should be on the file the page was extracted from.
The bug is that the typewriter tool's features become disabled in a document once a page or pages have been extracted from it. The extraction seems to be causing the problem.
Can you try again to see if you can recreate the problem?
    Thanks.

  • IAC Typewriter Tool Acrobat 8

I am using the function ExecuteMenuItem("ShowHideToolbarTypewriter") and ExecuteMenuItem("Annots:Tool:FreeTextTypewriterMenuItem") to open the typewriter toolbar and use the typewriter tool. This works fine in Acrobat 7 but in Acrobat 8 this does not work. Can someone please point me in the right direction to get this fixed?

The documentation has a list of every menu item you can execute through IAC (with one exception - even though 'quit' is listed, you can't execute it - that is a bug in the documentation, not the application). If the menu item you want to execute is not in that list, it is security restricted. And it's not to prevent automation, it is for security reasons. They just used the firewall principle - instead of limiting each menu item one at a time, they shut everything out and then whitelisted ones that are not a security risk.

  • Acrobat typewriter font issue

Hi, when I click on "Typewriter" in Acrobat Pro 9.4.3/Win7-32(en) and start typing, everything's ok at first (I chose "Times New Roman"):
However, after I click elsewhere and start typing there, suddenly some international characters change their font, and, moreover, last word disappears!...
Don't you know how to avoid this strange behaviour? It happens with a majority of fonts installed (they contain international chars and work normally e.g. in Microsoft Word etc.).
    Thanks for help, S.

How do you increase the font size to bigger than 24, using the typewriter tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac?   Often I just want to label an item on a map that is in PDF and want to use a simple label rather than a Text Box for labeling, but have yet to find a way to increase the font size beyond 24.   Can someone help me with this? - JML

  • Typewriter function in Acrobat 9 Pro

I am IT support personnel at al large university.  Our users are gradually upgrading to Acrobat 9 Pro from earlier versions.  When I do the Adobe Installation I always select "Complete" as the choice of installation type.  However, my users are having problems with Typewriter.  I understand the typewriter does not default in the on condidion.  However, when the user goes to Tools, Typewriter, to enable the Typewriter, the entire selection of typweriter is grayed out.  It is grayed out if no documents area selected.  It is grayed out on documents that show to be an "unsecured" document.  This problem is the same whether the OS is Windows XP, Vista or Seven.  The problem is the same for Office 2003, 2007 or 2010.  The typewriter is off and cannot be turned on.  I suppose there is a setting to rectify this problem, but I have been unable to locate it.  I would be greatful for some assistance.

The problem depends on how the .pdf was generated.  If during the creation of the original .pdf, the option to Enable the Typewriter Tool for use with Adobe Reader is selected, this would alleviate the problem of the disabled Typewriter Tool.   Seeing that this might not be the case, following is a solution.  If Adobe Acrobat Professional is available, use it to reprint the original .pdf to .pdf by selecting File > Print > Printer Name (select Adobe PDF as the printer).  Save the new .pdf.  In the new .pdf, select Tools > Typewriter > Enable Typewriter Tool in Adobe Reader.  Hopefully this will solve the problem.

  • Typewriter properties in Acrobat 9.0

Is there a way to change the (default) properties of typewriter?  Also, is there a way to change the font size just once in a document?  Everytime I change to a new block of text, the text size goes back to the original size.
    Thanks,
    Bryant

I'm using Acrobat 9 Standard on a PC, but one thing I've noticed is that there is a problem with the Typewriter toolbar working when opening up additional .PDF documents while the first document is still open - you can click on the Typewriter tool in those subsequent documents, but you cannot change the font or color of the text.  You have to look at the first .PDF document you opened to see those controls, which, amazingly, changes the size and color of the other document's Typewriter text.  Go figure.
If you have closed that first .PDF document already and this subsequent document is still open, you won't be able to access the Typewriter toolbar at all (all the options will be greyed out except the turning on and off the Typewriter itself).  You will have to close all the open .PDF documents (save them first, if applicable), then reopen the document you want to use Typewriter in.  It should work fine at that time.
It appears the fully functioning Typewriter toolbar only works in the "first" file opened.  Any overlapping files opened (while the first one is still open) are screwed up.  Just make sure to close each .PDF as it is used, and then each new .PDF you open will have a fully-functioning Typewriter toolbar.  Either that, or be sure to keep the first ,PDF open at all times, and if you have subsequent files you open and close, just keep referring to the toolbar in the first .PDF to make the changes in these other files.
This is especially cumbersome in that, as a digital office, I am always printing to Adobe instead of to a physical printer.  This glitch is annoying, but less so now that I know how to work around it.
    Hope this helps!

  • Acrobat 9 Typewriter increasing file size

I have scanned forms that I need to edit with the Typewriter tool in Acrobat 9 Pro - basically I just need to add a date to the form and then e-mail it.  Evidently I have accidentally clicked some box that I did not want to click, because now when I edit the one-page form (about 70k before editing) and type in any data whatsoever using the Typewriter tool, then save the form, the file balloons to anywhere from 0.6 to 0.9 MB.  Which is crazy, and too large for me to submit.
Right now what I'm having to do is edit the form, save it, print it, and re-scan it.  This is making me nuts.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have tried Reduce File Size, the Optimizer, and downsampling, but nothing has worked.  I can't make the file small enough to make a difference.
    Thanks,
    Beth

    Base - 14 fonts
Standard Type 1 Fonts (Standard 14 Fonts)
Fourteen typefaces—known as the standard 14 fonts—have a special significance in PDF documents:
Times (v3) (in regular, italic, bold, and bold italic)
Courier (in regular, oblique, bold and bold oblique)
Helvetica (v3) (in regular, oblique, bold and bold oblique)
    Symbol
    Zapf Dingbats
These fonts are sometimes called the base fourteen fonts.[34] These fonts, or suitable substitute fonts with the same metrics, must always be available in all PDF readers and so need not be embedded in a PDF.[35] PDF viewers must know about the metrics of these fonts. Other fonts may be substituted if they are not embedded in a PDF.
Helvetica was developed in 1957 by Linotype. Arial was Monotype's attempt to make a font that looked like Helvetica (but without paying licensing fees) and was designed in 1982.
Microsoft didn't want to pay Linotype licensing fees to use Helvetica so it went instead with the cheaper Arial.
Arial is held in disregard by many professional typographers and type enthusiasts, for reasons relating to its similarity to other typefaces and the involvement of Microsoft in its development and distribution.[7] It is reinforced by Arial's apparent status as a de facto Helvetica stand-in, but without paying royalties, or credit, to Helvetica. Arial's glyph widths are nearly identical to those of Helvetica,[7][26] rather than Monotype Grotesque, on which Arial is otherwise based.[7] "But to an experienced designer," writes typographer Mark Simonson, using Arial "was like asking for Jimmy Stewart and getting Rich Little."

  • Acrobat 9 typewriter text doesn't show

Acrobat 7 made me a big fan of the typewriter feature. Now that I've upgraded to Acrobat 9, I'm having problems with it. Suppose I add some typewriter text to a .pdf and save it. When I reopen the file, the typewriter text doesn't show. My text is there, but I can't see it. If I click my mouse in an area where I typed, the text comes up. I can double click it and edit it as usual. Then if I click elsewhere, the text I was looking at before disappears. So I can only look at one text entry at a time. The typed text does come out on hard copies.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
In case it matters, I'm running Acrobat Standard 9.0.0 under XP Pro SP3 on an HP Notebook with 4GB of RAM.
    Thanks,
    Herb

  • TypeWriter Icon is missingwhen I laod Acrobat Pro 9.3.3through my application

Yea, and it was when I installed the CS5 suite that Acrobat 9.3 stopped printing. I think it has something to do with the weird permissions issues that have plagued the CS5 install on the Mac since it was released. I have tried setting all the permissions right that I can, but might have missed something that could be breaking printing support.
I have already posted in the acrobat forums, and have tried all suggestions, and none of them worked.

  • Typewriter problems in Acrobat 9 Pro

I've been using the typewriter tool in Acrobat 9 Pro, and up until yesterday was able to change the font and size I was typing in. acrobat x pro crashes when I try to flatten a pdf after using typewriter to insert a date.
Has anybody else seen this problem? Is there a fix?
I wanted to download the demo of acrobat XI but it says the previous version will be removed and deactivate the license. That sucks!

Yes it is up to date.
I can use the stamp tool and flatten it after with no problems, but the typewriter tool crashes it upon attempting to flatten.
