Typewriter Tool

Do you offer a download of Adobe Acrobat that is not read-only, but includes tools, such as the typwriter tool?

The free Adobe Reader X does not allow using tools such as the Typewriter tool unless the creator of the PDF has provided permissions.
You can download the trial version of Acrobat, where all tools are available by default. https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=acrobat_pro&loc=en

  • Typewriter Tool Erratic - not precise in placement of Text

Our department has a form that is partially completed from a database program, printed to PDF, and the remainder is filled out using the typewriter tool. After the form is filled, we use the flattenpages.js tool to embed the added text into the form. While I agree this isn't the most efficient way, it is what we have to work with.
Anyway, this works well on all computer except one...... On this computer, using the Typewriter tool produces erratic behavior and you can't position the cursor over the box to type an X. It will go above, below, side, etc. but not in the box. I can take the same generated form on my computer and it works fine.
My question: Is there a setting within Adobe or in the registry that would control how the tool responds? Any help would be appreciated.

Problem solved. Believe it or not it was Windows profile related. Logging in as a different user on the same computer - it works fine. Recreated the users profile and it is working as programmed. Who would have figured !!!!!!!!!

  • How do you increase the font size to bigger than 24, using the typewriter tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac?

How do you increase the font size to bigger than 24, using the typewriter tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac?   Often I just want to label an item on a map that is in PDF and want to use a simple label rather than a Text Box for labeling, but have yet to find a way to increase the font size beyond 24.   Can someone help me with this? - JML

  • Stamp and Typewriter tool gone after 9.5.2 update??

Where did the stamp and typewriter tool go when I updated to Acrobat 9.5.2??

I found that the Typewriter tool only appears on the Tools menu if the PDF you have open allows it.
With some PDF forms I open, the Typewriter is missing from the Tools, but when I switch to a different PDF it reappears.
There must be a permissions setting in each PDF that disables/enables the Typewriter tool.

  • Cannot change font, size or anything for typewriter tool

    Hello all,
I am having an issue with the typewriter tool.  I cannot seem to change my font on about 95% of my PDFs?  Every once in awhile I am able to change the font and size.  But I cannot find a consistancy and cannot figure out the issue?  When I want to write on the PDFs to change size or font, it won't allow me to.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Lorne

I believe I have good news for all who have this trouble. It's been annoying since day one.
I accidentally discovered that by setting your cursor just off the edges of the document and begin your typing, the font properties always remain easily available!
Once you have created a typed message (any number of characters is okay), you can then drag the filled-in Typewriter Text Box to any location on the document; and you can continue to edit, at will!
Using the Typewriter Tool, I've had less than 05% font selection success when I type directly on/in the document.
Using the Typewriter Tool, I've had 100% font selection success by starting my typing in this space just off the document surface. Once finished typing, I just drag the box to the document surface. I hope this works for you, too!
See image. To enlage this image, press your Ctrl key and scroll. Good luck!

  • Typewriter tool Acrobat 9

    UPDATE 2:
Please see attached simpl scanned file.
When I first open it Typewriter tool works just fine.
If I extract a page from it, not deleting the page, then the typewriter tool only allows typing text and not modifying anything like spacing, etc.
    Update:
    Just ran a test:
    1) I extracted the entire document to help enable the typewriter tool editi features. Tested the extracted file and everything works as expected.
    2) I extracted one page out of this new document. The problem re-appeared.
So what it means is that when I extract a page the typewriter tool gets set to disable editing features.
    Strange?

    Hello.
My office just upgraded us to Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 on our XP- Pro.
The Typewrighter tool works unpredictably. In some cases you can type text in but you are not allowed to change its size, spacing and so on. The features are dimmed out. I am working on a file with multiple sheets which are originally scanned into pdf. What I found out is when the problem comes up, if I extract all the sheets into another file the problem goes away and then comes back up after a while, requiring me to re-extract the entrie document.
I have checked file settings and the security setting is always set to none.
Some of the things I am doing to these files (engineering drawings) is I am cropping a portion of the drawing and then extracting that page, saving it into its own unique file. Then I am undoing the cropping and moving on to other things. In some cases I am placing annotations on the files. I don't beieve any of these activities should be causing unpredictable performance of the Typewriter tool.
I have searched KB and all over the internet and have not seen any doscussions on this.
I would appreciate any insight that anyone can bring to us.

    Hi Anna.
I just updated to 9.2 and the problem still persists.
The test should not be on the extracted page/file. The test should be on the file the page was extracted from.
The bug is that the typewriter tool's features become disabled in a document once a page or pages have been extracted from it. The extraction seems to be causing the problem.
Can you try again to see if you can recreate the problem?
    Thanks.

  • Acrobat 9 Editing Typewriter tool

I can't get to my AA9 right now (recovering the HD), but in AA8 the tools appear to be grayed out, but they are still active. That may be the same appearance issue for you. Have you tried them? Of course, in AA8 only the font size and line spacing can be changed, not the font or color.
Sorry Bill.. had to start a new discussion because the blue Reply button did not function (any ideas on that?!)
Yes I tried clicking on the grayed tools but no response. Further to my question, I opened another pdf and was able to use Typewriter to type. However, this time the size and line spacing tools were grayed out, but I was able to change font and font size using the boxes on the right, which were mysteriously active in doc#2... the inconsistency doesn't make sense.. yet
Just turned up a most bizarre wrinkle to this issue.
I was using the typewriter tool in another document (Doc#2). This time the tools were not grayed out, and I was able to change the font, font size and font color at will. When I returned to the first document (Doc#1 -where the typewriter is active, but the tools all grayed out) and typed into the document I was very surprised to see that all the Typewriter settings from the Doc#2 were now applied to the Typewriter tool in Doc#1 !!!  Go figure... By the way, this is all taking place in Windows XP 5.1

You may be viewing the document in PDF/A mode which turns off Typewriter and Forms editing.  Don't ask me why; I just discovered it.  Go to Edit --> Preferences on the tool bar and select the "Documents" category.  On that window is PDF/A View Mode.  Set the view mode to "Never" (view documents in PDF/A mode).  See screen shot below.  That fixed the problem for me; hope it works for you.

  • Why does the Typewriter Tool stop working in an enabled Reader document?

I am using the latest version of Adobe Reader (9.4).  I use it to complete Adobe Reader - enabled pdf forms.  The typewriter tool is available but periodically stops allowing changes in the font and font size.  These areas of the Typewriter Tool are greyed out.  You can still add text with the typewriter tool but only with the font and size that was last selected.  The only way to fix this this is to use the "Repair Adobe Reader installation" under the help menu but this almost always (>98%) requires a complete restart of the computer.  This quirk is extremely annoying and no one seems to know what causes it or how to stop it.  Has anyone else had this problem and is there a permanent solution for this problem?

Is the damage actual or only display (are the layers complete according to their previews in the Layers Panel)?
Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
What have you done for trouble-shooting so far? (Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved mis usually a good starting point):

  • Typewriter tool in browser?

This question has been asked a few times already but none of the suggestions fixes make it possible to use the typewriter tool when opening a PDF from a web browser.  I know that it is possible because a colleague has her computer doing it.  Her browser is loading Acrobat Std in a separate window (not a browser window).  So how do you get the browser to launch acrobat.exe instead of the browser plug-in?

    This worked for me:
Try: Edit > Preferences > Internet > Display PDF in Browser

  • Keyboard Shortcut for Typewriter Tool?

Does anyone know of a way to start up the Typewriter tool in Acrobat Pro (using 9 here) for Mac? I'm looking for a keystroke shortcut; none seems to exist. Many thanks in advance. JIM

There is none but you can go to to tools menu scroll down to Typewriter Tool then choose show Typwriter tool bar and you can place it wher you wish it to show up

  • Acrobat X Standard--Typewriter Tool

I recently switched from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to Acrobat X Standard.   May those using the Standard version enable the typewriter tool for Reader?  When I select Save As-Reader Extended PDF, it only gives the option for Enabling Forms Fill-In.  When I saved my document, the typewriter tool was not activated for the users having access to Reader only.  Thanks.

  • Acrobat 9 typewriter tool

In Acrobat 9 Standard, the typewriter tool controls; text
size, line spacing, and text color are grayed out.
Although I can use the typewriter tool, the text size and

Should these controls be available in the Standard

  • Enabling Typewriter tool in browser

I have a web application that is displaying pdf files stored on a shared drive. The pdfs are displayed within the embedded viewer in IE. All users of this application have Adobe Standard installed. From a previous post, I saw that I could get the commenting toolbar to display by setting Collab.showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab property to true. Is there anything I can do to also get the the typewriter tool to be functional within the embedded viewer in IE? I also saw another suggestion which entailed "invoke Acrobat's own annotation handling directly, even in the browser", which I'm not sure I understand how to do. What would be best? I may need some other functionality such as flattening to be available as well.
Here's the post I was looking at:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b6f6da

If you have any sort of network/enterprise setup for your users (which I am guessing if they are all running Acrobat Standard), then use the Acrobat Tuner (Enterprise Installer Wizard) to put the Typewriter tool in their standard toolbar and then it's always there.

  • Typewriter Tool in Reader 9 no longer allows text styling

In Acrobat 8, I use to be able to right-click with the typewriter tool and choose bold or italic in using "Type Styles." This feature is gone in Acrobat 9. Did Adobe remove it? If so why?
    Rob

    Hi Rob.
Take a look at this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415470
There are around 40 posts over a year, from others who are finding this problem very irritating.  I expect there are other threads too.
It seems that many other people have the same problem, that the problem is inconsistent (some suggested workarounds work for some people, but not for others), that it has been present in more than one version of Acrobat, and that it remains basically unresolved.
My own experience is that although Acrobat 4 worked better for me than any subsequent version I have (6 and 9), Windows 7 and Acrobat 4 or 6 seem incompatible.  I now have this same problem with Acrobat 9.
I would welcome any solution that works for all these users, over their several versions of Acrobat, if it is offered by Adobe.  If there is such a solution, and if they are monitoring this thread (let's see if this is published in its entirety), perhaps they would post it to the thread, or update the offline/online help topic at:
    Adobe/Help/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/help.html?content=WS76F8368A-2F01-421d-9437-06EEB1C68BA4.html
(This is the Help topic on using the Typewriter tool).
If Adobe cannot or will not solve problems like this, we had better vote  with our spending power.
If there is no solution from Adobe  itself, it seems that in this respect Acrobat is a faulty product.
How about it, Adobe, is this fair comment?  Can you solve this problem?
