Typing a number in the keypad during a call

Hi,
Sometimes while you are in a call it happens you need to type a new phone number (provided by the person in the other side of the line for instance). So, I tap the keypad and type the phone number. But, once I finish the current call, the keypad goes off, and the number I typed just disappears. Does anyone know how I can keep that number I typed in the keypad? Tx.

Why not just type it in a note instead, then you just click on it to call the number.
The keypad is for entering dtmf tones during a call and is different to the dialling keypad so the number disappears when a call is ended

  • Memorizing number entered by keypad during phone call

I don't know how to memorize number entered by keypad during phone call. When call ends, the number is lost, cannot recall it after by taping twice on CALL. Anybody knows how? Is there a simple way to do it? Thanks in advance. Take care.

Got it. During the call, instead of tapping the keypad, tap Add Call - then tap the keypad button at the bottom, enter the number, then tap the 'add contact' icon/button (bottom left of this keypad, but not the other keypad), then you can tap Create New Contact or Add to Existing Contact. After that, you can save the contact then cancel out (so you don't actually call the number). You can do all of that while the call is ongoing.
Alternatively, click the home button, then tap the Notes app icon and enter the number into a note.
The advantage of the first method is that you can later dial the number just by tapping it, whereas if it's in a note, you can't directly dial the number from there.

  • Write phone number in the keypad while on call

    Hi,
Suppose I call to my friend to get a phone number from him.
I am on my call and I do not want to save that number in my contacts, but I want to write it in my keypad, then to hang up the call and then to press call button to call that number I got from him.
It is not possible. The number that I have written is deleted while I hang up the call with my friend.
Is there any way to do it without saving that number to the contact list or calling that number while I am still speeking with my friend ?
    Thanks a lot

You simply swipe your finger across it, left or right, and that switches between the caller screen and the keypad. hope this helps.

  • Is there a way to dial a contact by just typing its name in the keypad....as one can do in all the blackberry and android dialers...it is quite a job first to find the contact and then dial..

Is there a way to dial a contact by just typing its name in the keypad....as one can do in all the blackberry and android dialers...it is quite a job first to find the contact and then dial..

People - you critisize something you've no idea about! Smart dialing (also called T9) is NOT about text input for God's sake...it's about dialing a contact in a really quick and simple way just by clicking on one of 10 dial buttons (much bigger and easier to be tapped btw especially on the move) and the phone finds all the contacts matching typed combination
For example I want to dial contact MLADD - I then tap on 6,5,2,3,3 and the phone searches for contacts matching all the combinations hidden on these numbers.
Another example: see Apple's website containing contact line number specified in 2 ways: (800) MY-IPHONE (800-694-7466)
Do you get my point now?
I've used at least 6 different phones in my life so far and went through most of well known platforms including Symbian, Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone and now iOS. I'm very sure there is no better and faster way to quickly and easily dial somebody but by using a smart dial. Dialing somebody this way takes 2 seconds while dialing using tapping on contacts field, then typing a word using keyboard (assuming you click on a right button when on the move) takes a while longer and is frustrating.
It's just a matter of a wider perspective when looking at this problem. If you would use it at least once - you would demand it as well.
For people liking tapping everywhere to perform basic actions - let it be as it is, but why not to improve something by adding an additional option in setting and enable SmartDial?

  • How to stop iphone 4s from putting a space after the second digit, when entering a text number from the keypad

How do I stop the iphone 4s from putting a space after the second digit, when entering a text number from the keypad. Entering a text number on the key pad like 61998 comes out on the screen as 61 998 and the sms fails to go.

The space (or lack thereof) should have no effect on whether or not the SMS goes through. The spacing is intended to make it easier for the human eye to comprehend the number. I'd start by resetting the network settings in General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

    Thanks.

Hmm.. there is something undocumented that you could try out.. if you look at the latest schema (for the 7.0 ip phone services developer guide) you there's an element called KeyItem which you can have for pretty much any CiscoIpPhone object (basically those that also can have SoftKeys).. the type is CiscoIPPhoneKeyType, you can have 0 - 32 such items, and there's an attribute that seems to indicate where the keys go.. keypadTarget can go to application (default), applicationCall or activeCall.. perhaps one of the latter two allows keys pressed to go to the telephony context and not the app context.
CiscoIPPhoneKeyType has a key (can be any of the physical keys.. you'll find a listing of what the values are in the schema file), then an url, and an urldown url.
So, either you manage to simply define those keys with some url (perhaps it can be empty? to be tested..) and manage to have them routed to the telephony context with the attribute I mentioned, or you could simply define a KeyItem for each key you want to be active, define an url for each and make this a notify url.. that way your app gets a notification about the key pressed, and you can do with it what you want.. this requires some additional logic on your end as you need to gather digits and decide when to initiate the call, but it still sounds doable.
If you go down that route, please let us know your findings because as I said, those things are only in the schema and there's no documentation that outlines the use - thus it would be useful for the rest of us if you could tell us your findings.

How do I correct mistakes while entering #s on keypad during phone call?

You mean when actively on the line interacting with an automated system on the other end?  You don't. Or, rather, it's up to the system on the other end. When you tap a number, the tones are sent over the line immediately. You can't "undo" it.

why the iphone4 during a call does not keep the 3G?
I meet a lot of 3G signal when a call signal disappears 3G! I read the manuals and anything I find the problem! I do so with other brands and other cell does not, the same goes when I receive a call!

Make sure you do a reset, not a restart. Press and hold both buttons, ignore the "slide to turn off" message and let go of the buttons after the Apple logo shows up on the screen.
If you did that and it did not bring any change, try to set it up as new device, as explained in this article:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If it does not work the first time, try not to use the backup afterwards in a second attempt, in case it contains corrupt data.

  • Can you make the Keypad the default during phone calls?...

    Hi,
I'm finding it irritating when I make a call and the recording says "Press 1 for English" and unlike regular phones, I have to hit the keypad icon first just to get my numbers back so I can press '1'.
All the options are nice, but is there any way to make the Keypad the Default screen to appear while I'm making a phone call?
Also, I need to comment that I wish the speaker phone were much louder; it's almost useless the way it is. Is there any trick to getting that louder besides the volume control on the outside of the iPhone?
    Many Thanks, Frank B.

    In a word, no.

    Hi tracytah,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like on a phone call they can hear you but you cannot hear them. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Locking the keypad once a call is initiated

Everytime i am on a phone call, somehow i keep putting callers on hold, muting them, looking up contact information, etc.  and I have no idea it's happening until i look at my phone and see the green bar at the top indicating for me to go back to the phone conversation.  Is there any way to lock the keypad once a calll is initiated or accepted?  it iwll even start the facetime application, too

    Ecilpsemls,
are you using any type of protective case or cover in your iPhone?
Are you using any type of protective mate film over the iPhone screen?
Same times cases and mate films will interfere with the proximity sensor functionality.
Try removing you protective case first, if the sensor start to work correctly the problem is your case.
Second, remove the protective mate film if you are using one, if the sensor start to work correctly the problem is your mate film.
I had a problem with my leather case, I cut the part that was covering the sensor, now it works great, no problems at all.
Facing the iPhone, the sensor is located on top of the speaker to the right of the camera. If you see a picture of the new White iPhone 4, you will be able to see the exact location of the sensor, due to color is hard to see on the black iPhone
