Typing is delayed in InDesign CC

Im using a pretty fast iMac i5 with 16GB memory and no other apps running and getting slightly delayed typing. I consider myself advanced when it comes to app and system optimization, all my fonts are clean and system maintenance is up-to-date and talking about typing in a 2-page document with a single image in it--nothing fancy. Any thoughts as to what could be causing this?  I don't recall this issue happening prior to CC.

I have tried all of the troubleshooting in the other forum and it continues to behave sluggish.
I don't understand how this is possible after how many version updates and improvements! I understand that improvements come with new features and more programming is required, but at some point software should be developed with simplicity and ease in mind. Adobe seems to emulate the government, adding more and more complex operations that make it ultimately sluggish and not very effective - something as simple as typing and selecting text. I'm at a loss here, can't believe its so slow...I feel like i'm working on my old powermac 500!
Some professional Adobe support is welcomed here please!

If You Think iOS 7 Feels Slow Here’s How to Speed It Up
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

I downloaded iOs 7 on my iphone 4 and now the typing is delayed 15 seconds.  How do I fix this?

Sounds like you have something running that is taking up quite a bit of your CPU power.  Try shutting off your apps and potentially shutting off your bluetooth and wifi?

  • Musical Typing - Initial Delay

I don't know if this is a bug with GarageBand or if it's suppose to be like this.
When I create a new project, and turn on Musical Typing, there is a slight delay between pushing the keys on my Apple keyboard and the note being played. However, as soon as push the record button, this delay dissapears, and the keyboard is much more responsive.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about. It's very difficult to play a fast part when there's a delay between what you're doing on the keyboard and what you're hearing.

Ok, right, I should BUY a proprer musical keyboard.
However, the fact that Musical Typing works pretty well ONCE you've put it into record mode, suggests that it could also work just as well BEFORE you've put it into record mode. So, it's obviously ANOTHER bug.

  • How: Typing Urdu language in Indesign CS3 Asia Pacific distribution

    Hi.
    My name is Dela.
    Have:
I'm using Indesign CS3 Asia Pacific distribution (Made in Singapore & Printed in Singapore)
    Incorporated in San Jose, CA.
I'm an english user using Windows XP SP2.
I have all the needed Urdu words in .xls
    Various Urdu fonts.
    Problem 1:
I need to have all the Urdu words in correct manner (right to left) in Indesign CS3.
    Done:
I have installed 'files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)' & 'files for East Asian languages' under the Regional and Language options in Windows XP.
I have read over and tried to 'save as' from .xls to .doc and place it in Indesign CS3.
    Problem 2:
I was able to place the Urdu words from .doc into Indesign CS3 and still, the fonts will read from left to right.
    Please help.
    Thanks a lot!
    Rgds,
    Ms. Dela

    If you need CJK support
*and* RtL Support, you're out of luck! :(
The Asian version doesn't have RtL support, and the ME version doesn't have CJK options. You can't install both on the same machine, and a file created using ME options can not be opened on a non-ME version. The only course of action would be to set the CJK options using a CJK version, and then bring the file into an ME version (on a different computer).
If it's only a small amount of RtL text, you can try using reversed text in the non-ME version. There are various scripts which can reverse existing text.
    Good Luck!

  • Text is pixelated in Adobe Viewer when creating an app in indesign

I am trying to create an app in indesign, I put the docuement in the folio builder, and then view it on my iphone through Adobe Viewer.  The text that I've typed in directly in indesign appears pixelated, along with any thing I placed from photoshop.  In Indesign I've made the object High Quality Display, took out all layers except the text layer, even saved the photoshop text image as a pdf and placed it in indesign, still pixelated.
    Help please.

Thanks Neil, I did all 3 as per your suggestion: version 25, PDF, and 960*640, and it worked.  But b/c of the PDF option, I believe that was the reason why each page opened up from blurry to clear, which is actually a cool looking effect, however, on some legnthy text frames, the blur took a bit too long to clear.
So I created another folio, version 25, 960*640 and this time kept it Automatic, and it's just as clear as the PDF folio, but there's no initial blur.

  • Typing going crazy in MS Word 2008 under Bootcamp

I have a minor issue wondering if anyone has seen it before:
Just created a new iMac 21inch running SNL 10.6.2. and Bootcamp
with Windows XP SP3 installed, along with MS Office 2008.
In MS Word, when trying to type in a document the first couple of lines type
correctly, but as I type further down the page, the mouse cursor will
randomly jump back a line and /or jump a line forward.
I have looked at the keys to make sure none are getting stuck as i type,
and I have checked and lowered the keyboard refresh rate in Windows.
    Anyone else experience this issue?

Actually Office for Windows XP 2007.
Further troubleshooting, the issue does not occur when typing in Notepad
or Indesign CS3 on Windows XP under BootCamp. Just Word.

  • InDesign and Hindi

I am trying to type Hindi text into InDesign, and it is behaving differently than when I type the same text into TextEdit.
Using the Devanagari QWERTY keyboard, I type Alt-S, Shift-I. In TextEdit, I get the following (hopefully this will come through in the posting)
    श्री
Typing the same into InDesign, I get this:
    श््री
Futhermore, I cannot even paste the correctly interpreted characters from TextEdit into InDesign - the latter text always replaces the former text.
The problem seems to be compound characters.
How can I properly enter Hindi (Devanagari) text into InDesign?

Well, that wasn't too hard, but it was a touch more expensive than I'd hoped.
I've installed the trial version of IndicPLus, and it only took me a few minutes to figure out how to use it (the manual is vague from a newcomers perspective..you have to create a new paragraph style whilst the IndicPlus paragraph editor is set).
However, the Devanagari font I've been using that looks great in Pages looks a complete dogs dinner in IndicPlus/InDesign. Diacriticals are scatter-gunned over the line, and some letter combinations are rendered completely different from Pages (and completely wrong).
Noting that one of the samples shown on the IndicPlus website uses Arial Unicode, I took a chance on buying that font (another $100), and fortunately, it now works a charm!
Less fortunately, Arial Unicode doesn't seem to be available in Bold or Semibold, which would have been nice, but I can live without it.
    Edit:
Also, interestingly, Arial Unicode MS does't show up in the list of available fonts in IDesign, which was worrying for a moment. However, if I start typing the name in the font name box, it shows up as an auto-complete option! This is after restarting InDesign (but not my Mac).

  • Vector Smart (InDesign) Sizing in Photoshop - trouble?

    Hi,
I created a typed grahic in InDesign and then pasted it into photoshop so that I could save for web and devices and use it for a nav bar on a site that I am buiding.
When I did this in the past, the graphic would paste as a vector smart object in the exact same size as it appears in InDesign. Now, all of a sudden, when I paste the graphic into PS it appears very large and at a higher resolution. When I make teh canvas and the resolution smaller, it becomes too tiny. I'm pretty sure I am going about this incorrectly and am wondering if someone can suggest a better way to do this.
Again, what I want to do is paste a graphic that I made in InDesign into Photoshop as a vector smart object. It is a typed word that is size 12 font. I want the size to remain the same.
I would appreciate any tips. Thanks!

If InDesign included the absolute size, then the placed PDF file will be at that size.
You're placing a PDF - it can rasterize at ANY pixel size.  So, if it doesn't come in at the right size, just resize it - that's what smart objects are for.
Also, for a typed word, you used InDesign?  Why not just type it in Photoshop and keep the text vector?

  • M30: Keyboard Delay

I have a M30 and when I type the typing is delayed, I have to stop and let it catch up all the time. Sometimes is misses streaches of typing and sometimes the cursur jumps back to a section in the middle of the text.
I'm not touching the pad, no mater how fast or slow I type, wether I'm in word or explorer, It still does it.
I have used the O/S that came with the laptop and I have reformatted into a different Windows XP version with a different version of word and it still happens. It's like the CPU is not fast enough even though it's a 1.5ghz centrino.
I have also set in the bios for the CPU to run at full speed all the time.
    Help I'm Baffled

    Hi,
I own an M30 and have experienced symptoms almost exactly as you mention. I believe this is an issue with the touchpad being over-sensitive - you don't even need to touch it, just apply pressure near it on the case. I have seen other posts suggesting Fn-F9 to disable the Touchpad while typing (this has the same effect as using the Tosh Touchpad Disable utility in ControlPanel->Mouse->Touchpad) however this doesn't stop the effect.
I work around it by having a USB mouse, and disabling the touchpad completely in the BIOS before entering Windows. This seems to work and stops the mouse jumping around all over the place and also stops the keyboard from stuttering. I've never found a proper solution to this - I wonder if anyone has spoken to Tosh technical staff about this, coz disabling the touchpad at BIOS level is a pain when you go truly mobile.
    Comments welcome !
    Cheers
    Andy.

  • IMac is running slow again after upgrading Memory to 6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  Mail is especially slow.  I have searched the community info, but I am really a novice and most of the solutions appear to be beyond my level of proficiency. Please help!

I am at a loss. even after reading other questions and responses.  After upgrading to Mt. Lion, everything on my iMac slowed down.  I knew more memory would be needed, so I went from 2G to 6G.  That worked for awhile, but now, about 3 weeks later, things are slowing down again.  Mail is especially slow, when moving from one message to another, and also just plain typing is delayed in mail.  iPhoto has had the spinning wheel issue since change to Mt. Lion, but it eventually stops and the app itself is functional, so this is just annoying as much as anything.
Any easy, simple to follow instructions would be appreciated.  Is it better for a novice to take to the Genius Bar or to an approved Mac repair center in my area, rather than attempt some of the solutions I've seen offered here.  And, if I do, what's the likelihood the issues will be resolvable?? Clearly, I am not the only one with this issue ...
Thanks for any help you can offer.

There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Massive artifacts, redraw and performance problems: xorg 1.8 and Intel

    Hi there.
Since the update to xorg-server 1.8 my intel GMA950 powered lap top is seriously acting up.
*Performance has dropped significantly, Games or compiz run slower than before
*Font drawing is sometimes garbled, sometimes not
*Some windows or parts of windows (sometimes only the decorations) show artifacts
*Drawing of fonts while typing is delayed by 1 or more characters sometimes
It might be related to this bug or the problem described in this thread.
    Just look at this screenshot:
I tired moving xorg.conf, I tried running compiz with --indirect-rendering, I tried all kinds of options in xorg.conf and all but it just remains broken like this. Has anyone got similar problems and a solution?
Last edited by Shapeshifter (2010-06-28 15:07:21)

I've been having the same issue but not to the extent of the OP.
I read the man for intel
    man intel
and added these three lines to my xorg.conf
    Option "XvPreferOverlay" "false"
    Option "SwapbuffersWait" "false"
    Option "Tiling" "false" #{edit: after doing some testing I found tiling made no differnece so I ended up commenting it out}
The first option I added because the man says
    The  overlay
behaves  incorrectly  in  the  presence of compositing, but some
prefer it due to it syncing to vblank in  the  absence  of  com‐
                  positing
I use compiz ergo i have compositing and I noticed my video tearing and skipping sometimes. Seems to work fine now (more testing will be required)
The second option I added because the man says
Note that when enabled, this option can
adversely affect the framerate of applications that render
frames at less than refresh rate.
I have a hunch compiz probably isn't rendering at the refresh rate and also video would be rendered at less than my vert refresh of 60. So I disabled it.
The third and last option I added was because the man says
In most cases (especially for complex rendering),
    tiling dramatically improves performance.
    Well this may be a case where it doesn't and the posters above have noticed improvements.  {edit: after doing some testing I found this made no differnece so I ended up commenting it out}
In the end moving windows around the screen do not tear anymore and my video is smoother. I enabled all three at once so it maybe that one or a combination of 2 or possibly all 3 resulted in change. I suspect  I will do some more testing but hopefully this is a place to start fro some of you having this issue.

Depends.  How large is your HD & how much space do you have left on it?
