Typing Mail Password starts Automatic Updater

Hi all,
I use the most recent Mail App. Recently I started the mail program while I was checking for updates. I have an IMAP account which requires login with a password. When I type a certain letter into the password field, the software update program starts (or restarts when it is already running in the background) and mail will not accept the password anymore. I can type the password in a text editor and then paste it to mail - then it will start, but not otherwise.
This is very strange, very unconvenient and against safety policies. Somebody else having this issue ? Anybody, an idea what I could do about it ? Suggestions are highly welcome.

The problem was with a haxie called menu master. It gives you great flexibility to assign keyboard shortcuts in any application to some action. For some very strange reason the updater was hooked to some capital letter in mail. I really dont remember how that happened, but after deleting that assignment I dont have the problem any more. Could have found out that earlier! Sorry for bothering anybody

Mail does not automatically update on Mavericks 10.9.1

My Mac Mail does not automatically download after the Mavericks 10.9.1 update on December 16th. I have set preferences to download automatically. It worked fine until recently but now i have to click get mail option to receive emails. It is true for all my accounts (Exchange, Google IMAP, Yahoo IMAP and iCloud IMAP).
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
Envelope Index
ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Warning: The process may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. For reasonable-sized mailboxes, it should only take a few minutes.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Disabling Java Web Start Automatic Updates

Hi,
my manager is a bit concerned about JWS automatically updating itself.
It doesn't bother me as much as, say, Windows automatically updating itself,
but what if Sun inadvertently adds a serious bug which stops my app working?
It would be nice to be able to choose whether or not JWS does this, and to be able to
manually check for updates, in the Application manager.
Anyone else here share this thought?

Java Web Start does not ever auato update itself, only the applications that are launched with it.
Starting with Java 1.4.2_01 The Java Runtime Enviornment itself began containing the ability to auto update itself, but :
1.) If 1.4.2_01 auto-updates to 1.4.2_05, both versions remain available on the machine, (and a webstart app can specify either the exact version it wants, or a range ov versions)
2.) The update policy can be set by each user thru the Control Panel, and the default is to prompt the user before installing.

Mail Keep asking For my AOL Mail Password after last update

Every once in a while (about 3 times a day) mail pops up asking for my aol password (i never chanegd it). It even saves my password when the message pops up all i have to do is hit save.
Ive searched the net up and down but what i found works for a short period of time, Then it pops up again.
This is what pops up in console, ive blanked out my info. I dont know what twitter and facebook have anything to do with it but hopefully someone can help me fix this problem, its very annoying. especially since it always worked fine untill i updated.
This started happening after i updated to 10.9.1 which is odd because this and the previous update was supposed to fix this alot of osx mail problems that i never had in the first relase of mavericks.

Control-click its Dock icon and set it not to open at login, or remove it from the list of login items for your user account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences.

Error prompts when Automatic Update Cycle --Unable to open changes.txt

Hi all,
i have a problem when start Automatic Update Cycle in Indexer tab in Repository Manager. It prompts me that
Indexing abort at .....Unable to open /app/ucm/server/search/update/changes.txt
Then i checked the changes.txt file but find it is blank.
The version of my Content Server is 10GR3.
Anyone knows why?

Are you using verity?
Try this:
Stop services (admin and regular)
Delete the <install>\<instance>\search\update\changes.txt file
Restart both services
This may allow Verity to start the indexing process over.
Test.

Apple Mail starts automatically

Hello! I have the problem that since the last update for OS 10.3.9 the application mail starts automatically after turn on the mac. Theres no alias in the autostart an no script. Did anybody knows this problem? Thanks.

I am not sure what you mean by "autostart". Do you mean that the Mail application is not listed under System Preferences>Accounts>Startup Items tab?
If it is listed there you can use the "-" sign after you have selected it in the list to delete it.

Only when i go to a different browser (like IE) after i clear it , then all that shows up is the pages i visited in IE , that is what bugs me , why is IE browsing history sowing up in Firefox ??
Basically , i can clear the history in Firefox , and then for a example , go to Craigslist , using IE7 (launching it from a complete different Icon , in other words at that time i never open Firefox) , then after closing out , or even leaving open as it does not seem to matter , i go into Firefox , and hit History , and there is every place i visited in IE7 , on my History in Firefox

Since Firefox version 12, after Firefox automatically applies an update, Firefox will launch and immediately terminate.
The only solution is to manually un-install Firefox, completely clean the registry of Firefox entries, and manually re-install a previous version of Fiirefox that will work -- I use version 4.0. And then manually update that version to the current version.
I DO NOT install the new automatic update option -- that is, the automatic maintenance option.
BUT never the less, EVERY TIME I check for the latest version of Firefox using HELP --> About
Firefox, the UPDATE is AUTOMATICALLY RUN and FIREFOX WILL NOT WORK AGAIN.
I have put with this none sense for 18 versions of Firefox - MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!

You can use one of these to start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut

Can you bring up the Profile Manager to create a new profile (possibly when starting in Safe Mode by holding down Shift)?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

Is there a way (or a setting) for my individual folders in Mail to automatically update across all devices? For example, if I transfer an email to a folder for follow-up on my PC - say 10th of the following month - the same folder in Mail on my iPhone doesn't update until I actually go into the folder and update manually. Interestingly though, if I create a new folder on any of my devices they automatically appear on the other devices so it is just the actual contents that I am referring to here. Appreciate any help or guidance.

You can turn mail off in the settings but then you can't use it for anything, including the "test" that you want to perform.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Account Name>Mail>Off. That totally turns off the mail account.
As long as mail is turned on and you launch the app, it will look for an download new mail.

Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.

Same thing happens when i click restart.
No difference when i run it in Safe mode. And it won't let me create a new profile either. Is there anyway else i can extract my bookmarks? This is driving me crazy!

Did the crash reporter send any crash reports? 
You can see the crash reports in this folder:

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" 
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

If that still causes the same problem then do a clean reinstall and remove the Firefox program folder.

* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

When signing in after I get my e-Mail address in the block how can I get my password to automatically fill in?

When signing in to the internet using Firefox when I type in the first letter of my e-mail address it brings up the entire address which I click on an it fills in the blank. On my laptop at this point when it fills in the e-Mail address it automatically fills in my password; however, on my desktop it does not fill in the password, I have to type it in. I use Firefox on my laptop also so I don't know why it works on one system and not on the other.
