Typing of accented characters changes font

I'm using Illustrator CS6 on a Mountain Lion Mac. Got a weird problem with one of my fonts. I'm used to type accented characters like é by typing option-e plus e. Which works so far. On one of my fonts however, EuroComic, when I want to type the é character and start with option-e, it already changes the font to Myriad Pro. Typing the e after that makes it é, but in Myriad Pro, not EuroComic. It has always worked before when I was still using Snow Leopard. And it's not a font problem I think, cause in Indesign that same way of using option-e plus e works. The é is at the correct spot in EuroComic cause when I select all text and change it to EuroComic (after having typed that é), not only does all text turn into EuroComic again, but also that now Myriad Pro é turns back to EuroComic é. What could it be that could make illustrator turn the font to Myriad Pro after typing option-e on that parcitular font? With other fonts like Arial etc. I don't have that problem.

Exactly what I said: "it thinks you are trying to insert a character that is unavailable in the current font. (You are, but only for a short while.)"
It has nothing to do with the 'location' of "é" -- this is the same as in every font. It's due to the way you can type in accented characters in Mac OS X.
You type an acute character; Illustrator receives it and switches immediately to the fallback font (Myriad Pro). Next you type an 'e'. Your friendly Mac OS, watching over your shoulder, removes the acute accent and replaces it with an é. Illustrator doesn't notice this and leaves the font changed to Myriad.

Did you check your accent characters file from instances? I suggest you could login on RDP and check the file name whether is same as your local. You could find file follow this way:
login on VM==>>open the local Disk==>>siteroots>>0
Also, you could add the Portuguese language into your isntacnes language list. And change your VM page name as your local page name . And then try to visit using the
accent characters file name. Please try it.
Also, you could try to install the language pack for azire (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsazure/en-US/75d5c1c8-31bb-4431-97ae-a8b80098a9c6/net-framework-45-language-pack-for-azure-web-role-os-family-3-windows-server-2012?forum=windowsazuretroubleshooting ).

How do I stop Indesign from changing letters to accented characters

When working in Indesign letters are randomly changed to accented characters. The only way to remove them once this happened is to save the job, close it and then reopen it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Typing accented characters

I am using InDesign CS5 on a Windows 7 system. How do I type accented characters? I know how to find the characters I want in the Glyph panel and insert them from there by double-clicking on them. But I want to be able to type Spanish (or other languages) and enter the special letters from the keyboard without having to go back and forth to the Glyph panel. Is there a way to do this?
I have used FrameMaker for years. It was relatively easy to type Esc+'+a to get an acute accented a. Can this be done just as easily in ID?

I second David on that. It's possible to set up your keyboard to be able to enter *some* accented characters (it depends on what language you set it to), but in practice I could live without suddenly having to press " twice to get a single " (a typical key combo of that kind is to press first " then a to get ä).
I have been using Compose for so long that I can't even be bothered to memorize the (very few) characters that you *can* enter natively with OS X. I also expanded it to include yet even *more* characters -- I do need quite a lot of these, in a typical day of multi-linguistic work. Of course I bound the script to a custom key combo, ready to be called up.
If Compose is not Your Cup Of Tea (i.e., quite some. ore than you wanted), search this forum for One-Character Scripts. Those are extremely simple scripts that do nothing but inserting one character of your choice. You can bind these scripts to a hotkey as well. So in your case you could have one that inserts ñ, bound to Ctrl+N, and another one that inserts ś bound to Ctrl+S. (Hmm -- perhaps *not* that particular combo -- but you get the idea.)

Accented characters on E70

Does anyone know if there's an easy way to input accented characters (like é en ä) on the E70 with the phone folded open? I would have expected that switching to Dutch would change the input mode such that pressing for instance e and ' consecutively would give an é, but no such luck. Right now, the only way of entering accented characters that I know of using the full keyboard is holding the control key while pressing the ascii code of the desired character, which is inconvenient even for the few characters for which I know the ascii code by heart. Alternatively, one can close the full keyboard and use the numerical keypad to cycle through the available characters, but constantly switching between the full keyboard and the numerical keyboard is'n really my idea of convenient text input. The capitalization help is a feature I'd like to turn off.
It hinders me a lot more than it helps.
The first line of any SMS or email I send always begins with a lowercase letter - very unprofessional - because the UI has already pressed the shift key. When I press the shift key, to capitalize, it un-capitalizes for me.
I can't correct this habit of hitting the shift key each time I want to capitalize a letter - no other GUI does this to me. Normally, when you begin a sentence, you type a capital letter. But if the phone's UI sees a period, it automatically presses Shift for you.
This means every time you abbreviate something and use a period midsentence in an SMS, the next leter is capitalized, viz. This example.
or "it hinders my typing in emails, sms, etc. And is really annoying. this uncapitalized sentence would be another example."
Anyway how do I turn the thing off because it only wastes my time.
I find myself trying to outwit and predict this auto-cap behavior and I'm tired of it.
How do I turn it off?

Help with French Accent Characters Corrupted

Hi, All.
I am developing a Flex Front end connect with Java back-end.
The back-end sends data retrieved from XML file to the Flex
front-end; displays it in an TextArea, and allow user to change.
After user changes the data, hit "Save" button, then Flex sends the
data to the back-end.
I check with the back-end, make sure the data was correct
when sending out to Flex, and the French accented characters gets
corrupted when sending back from Flex. However, in Flex side, this
change cannot be awared. (i.e. The French accents characters
display correctly in Flex, but sending wrong character back). I'm
guessing that might be something related to character sets.
However, I cannot find anywhere to set character sets in
HTTPService. Anybody has idea?

Accented characters not encoded properly in Mail since 10.6

Messages I type that contain accented or otherwise special characters appear fine as long as I'm typing them but get re-encoded in a way that is unreadable by recipients AND by me. I.e, if I go to my Sent folder and check such messages, all accented characters have become unreadable.
I don't remember ever having that problem with 10.5
It also does not seem to be a systematic issue. I think I have it more when answering to a message or when transferring a message, as if Mail used the encoding method of the initial sender.
Anyone else has this problem?

The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps AND plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible.

How can I disable the accented characters from popping up on the iPad?

Hello all,
I work with clients who are unable to talk due to various developmental delays. We use the Proloquo2go app which uses the regular iPad keyboard for communication. Is there a way to disable the accented characters from popping up when typing on the keyboard? This is very distracting for some of our clients. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You cannot create fonts with Acrobat.
Doing so requires a dedicated font creation application.
Or purchas of Fonts to augment what the OS and applications install.
To change fonts in a PDF to something else that is on the local machine and available to Acrobat you could try this:
Select characters with the TouchUp Text too.
Right click for the context menu.
Select Properties.
Select the Text tab.
Look over the configuration options to see if they meet your needs.

I am facing a problem, senario is i am having a table layout with about 20 columns and each column header is about 30 characters long now the problem is when the table is rendered because of header font size its layout is not good looking ... is there any way that i can controll the font size of colmun headers.
I have tried this solution provided in this forum:

Accented characters in tagged text

I normally write copy in a text editor (TextPad), paste into InDesign, and format in the Story Editor. Now I want to format in TextPad and import tagged text. But I am finding that accented characters from the numeric keypad as well as other more frequently used characters - €, £ - are being misinterpreted. For instance R$8·25 million (about €3 million) comes in as R$8Â·25 million (about â‚¬3 million) and Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo is rendered as FundaÃ§Ã£o de Amparo Ã Pesquisa do Estado de SÃ£o Paulo.
I have the options to format the text file as ANSI or DOS, and I have used the headers <ASCII-WIN> and <ANSI-WIN>, but there seems to be no combination that brings the text in cleanly.
Substituting Unicode values for these characters gives me what I want and I can build a library of them to add in TextPad, but this is counter to my aim of more productivity.
Can anyone give me a the formatting options to enable me to use the numeric keypad to generate the extended character set in a form that will import as tagged text?

Yes, sorry, it had to be somewhere from InDesign to InDesign. What I actually meant was that your tagged text started life in InDesign. My tagged text is starting life in TextPad.
TextPad can save text in DOS (I guess that means ASCII), ANSI and UTF-8. It's possible that the text in the file I was importing wasn't actually in ANSI. I've restructured it now and it is importing accented characters correctly except, bizarrely, for the Euro symbol (yes, there is a € in the font - Myriad Pro). If I use Alt0128 to create the symbol - or the keyboard AltGr4 - import stops at the last complete line before the € would be encountered, and nothing more is imported. If I use <0x20AC> the symbol imports properly and the whole file is placed.
I also worked with two identical (except for the substitution of some Unicode characters) versions of the same file. Both were ANSI, and both were headed with <ANSI-WIN> and no other definition information. One file picked up the definitions from the InDesign decument and rendered correctly, the other ignored all the paragraph styles and simply imported text at the default paragraph style.
So please accept some points for your collection Ken for leading me to re-check the actual code set in the document.
If you have any ideas about the € problem or why one version of the file would not pick up style definitions I would be intrigued to hear.

As an afterthought, I've attached a chunk of each file to show one that picks up definitions and one that doesn't. My initial thought was that the one that does pick up definitions would bleat about them being missing, while the other wouldn't. But if I place them in a blank file, both complain that the definitions are missing. However, If I make an appropriately named definition to match one in the file, the version that picks up definitions will match it and only bleat about the other missing definitions. The file that isn't picking up definitions will fail to honour the paragraph style, and will complain that the remainder are missing.

Accented characters showing up as ? in JRE1.3 but ok in 1.2

I'm implementing a database web interface product that utilizes JSPs (on SunOS 5.7).
The problem is in the search form. When using accented characters (French language), the JSP calls on URLEncode, but all accented characters show up as '?'.
However, when editing a record, using accented characters is not a problem (i.e., the accented characters are properly stored in the fields).
Back on the server, I ran a small program to output accented characters and also to call java.net.URLEncoder to convert the characters.
The default JDK is J2SE (1.3.1). Compiliing and running the program results in question marks.
Using JDK 1.2, the accented characters show up fine.
It would appear that URLEncoder is not at fault, but instead, JDK 1.3.1 doesn't seem to handle the accented characters.
I figure there must be a setting somewhere, but I'm not sure where.
Here's the program I used (written in Win98, using standard Win-based character set and Unicode format \u00xx; in Unix, "more" displays the Win accented characters fine but "vi" displays them as \xxx; compiles and displays perfectly when using JDK 1.2):

Between jdk1.2 and jdk 1.3 the default encoding of the vm changed.
You can get it by executing:
System.out.println("Default Encoding:" + System.getProperty("file.encoding"));
or
System.out.println("Default Encoding:" + (new java.io.InputStreamReader(System.in)).getEncoding());
The default encoding is used during the conversion of bytes to strings and vice verca.
Assume your default encoding is ISO8859_1. Then calling new String(byte[]) is equivalent to calling
new String(byte[], "ISO8859_1")
Now if you are converting a character from one encoding scheme to another and there is no mapping
for this character in the target scheme. Then the character will be replaced by a default character
which is (quite often) the question mark.
You can set the default encoding for a vm by passing it as a command line parameter
java -Dfile.encoding=ISO8859_1
java -Dfile.encoding=Cp1252

I apologize for the poorly worded sentence. I wrote that before I had my first cup of coffee.
I do not recommend removing duplicate fonts, unless you are thoroughly familiar with the implications. For example, the Kurt Lang article lists 1) Required fonts. Do not delete any of those fonts.
Disabling fonts can also be an issue, therefore in 2) Known issues with disabled fonts, should also be thoroughly studied.
If you are intent on removing fonts, be sure to read 7) Various other fonts you can move or remove.
If this is what you mean, what are the duplicated fonts for ?

While the Arial suitcase font from Office looks like one item, it actually contains four fonts; Arial, Arial Bold, Arial Italic and Arial Bold Italic. Kurt's article is the limit of my knowledge about OS X Fonts. He is IMHO the most knowledgeable source on OS X Fonts.
