Typing on iOS4 on my 3GS is S-L-O-W, plus multiple other bugs.

I successfully upgraded to the new OS, however, typing a calendar entry or email info has a significant delay - it can take 10 seconds or more for characters to appear! Once a new calendar entry is completed, it takes several seconds to appear in the calendar.
I attempted to "share a contact" and the system froze on me, and wouldn't share the contact.
I was reading a US Today article inside the US Today app, and it closed by itself and went back to the home screen - this has happened with multiple different apps that just close arbitrarily to return to the home screen.
There are so many bugs, that I need to find out how to go back to my old OS. I didn't have any of these issues with my old OS.

Have Verizon check the ONT logs and statistics to see if they can spot anything wrong with the fiber signal coming in. I believe the ONT will report such info. Also, have them also have a network engineer check PON load and the OLT to make sure there's no issue.
On your end, give your router a factory reset and also check the MoCa Coax signal speed. See this FAQ: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.2_MOCA#16569 . Also, stick to wired for the time being if possible and ensure you're running at a speed of 100Mbps with Full Duplex mode enabled on the NIC.
Are you sure the system itself isn't slow? I've seen plenty of machines running old Celerons, ancient Athlons or Pentium 4s that are just not up to the job Windows places on them and choke on faster connections. If you can provide your system specs (RAM, CPU, Video card, etc) we can also get an idea of what may be wrong.

  • IOS4 & Faces on 3GS IPHONE

I updated to IOS4 on my 3GS. When I go to pictures, it only lists Albums and Places. There is no Events or Faces icons. This did not happen with my Iphone 3G. Everything worked out fine when upgrading. It should also be noted that the 3GS was updated on a windows Vista computer not my MAC. Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks

First time use of a secondhand 3gs; SIM failure (the SIM works fine in other handsets); any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

    Hi L.T.D.,
To only answer the question you asked, the answer is yes you can do those specific tasks you mentioned.
    My example:
Since you don't want the sentence if A2 is blank you would modify this formula to something like this:
    =IF(ISBLANK(A2),"","the patient reports "&A2&" that won't leave.")
I don't see a problem if all you are looking to do is to translate your form or forms into a report. I could even see several different forms reporting to one sheet that tracks their history. It may require a lot of maintenance if there are an increasing number of forms reporting.
Sometimes merged cells create difficulty in Numbers. A mix of popups and checkboxes may complicate things.
I think the previous advice may turn out to be the best, though. You are asking,"If I head this way am I headed to Japan?" I am saying "Yes". They are saying, "You will need a boat!"

  • IOS4 Update on 3GS New Restore- "iPhone (Name) is in use by another user"

The initial problem I encountered on my 3GS to iOS4 update was I couldn't do ANYTHING that required the network, e.g. Facebook, Safari, certain apps, youtube and more. I was told by an Apple in-store rep to restore AS NEW IPHONE instead of using my backup info, so I did.
It works almost perfectly now. However, I just attempted to make a new playlist and sync it to my iPhone and I am getting the message "iphone (Name of my iPhone) is in use by another user on this computer"
The problem with this is that I am the ONLY user on this computer and have been since I have had it.
My photos will sync through iPhoto but iTunes is no longer recognizing my iPhone's name or the device. I am not sure what caused this, but any help would be awesome.
Since the new update I changed the name of my iphone but I do not see why that would be an issue.

    1. You are thread-jacking. Kangdequan has an open question and adding unrelated questions to that, will not help him at all. Kangdequan, please see below.
    2. There have been countless articles in the last few years explaining why some countries have iTunes music stores and others not. The main reason is something called copyright.
    3. There is an Apple app store in the Philippines.
    4. There are many other sources of music.
Kandequan. It may be that something has become corrupted, but I also see a problem in that the iPhone is only supposed to sync with one computer. Trying to sync with a second one will not work.
There are a number of things you may need to do now, but first decide which computer is to be the one that you sync with: the master, if you will.
Whichever one you decide on, you need to make sure that all files point to that and there is a process written up by a user "wjosten".
You may also need to follow the Apple suggestions for making iTunes recognise your device.

  • Feedback noise from iOS4 upgrade to 3GS

Dear Apple marketing folks, we appreciate your developers, but please get us a patch for this iOS4 issue ASAP. Think of the bad (and very public) experiences that are now happening daily with iPhones randomly making loud screeching noises in work places, cafes, buses, subways, etc.. Talk about bad word-of-mouth marketing. Ouch. The Android marketing people are going to have a field day with this one if it does not get fixed quick.
The recent upgrade to iOS4 on my otherwise great 3GS is causing random, loud, high-pitched, feedback noises to emit every time the phone makes a noise for anything else (reminder ding, etc).
A phone call with tech support only got me a suggestion to do a Restore via iTunes and confirmation that they know this is trending up. The Restore did not work.
Other threads listing the same issue:

Lots of blog mentions on the issue just like this one from iLounge: http://bit.ly/eA1rU.

I have had the same issue following my upgrade to iOS4. In my opinion these issues are uncharacteristic of Apple. I have had no issues with this phone or any other Apple product that I have used until I made the upgrade to iOS4. I agree with the other posts that something needs to be done about this (and other iOS4 issue) ASAP. PLEASE post any tricks that you have found (besides restores, and reboots which I have already done without lasting success)to work on a more permanent basis.

  • Restoring backup created in ios4 to earlier 3gs version

Probably a daft question but I hope someone can answer it for me.
Following problems with rebooting in the middle of calls Apple are going to replace my 3gs which I had updated with ios4 with a replacement phone.
As part of the trouble shooting with Apple CS (who I may say were excellent) I did a factory restore and then synched it from an earlier backup which was also created when using ios4. Assuming that the replacement phone has the previous operating system on it, when I come to connect it to my itunes and restore it from the last backup will it automtically load that backup onto the phone and re-install io4 or will it give me the option to skip upgrading to ios4 and keep the earlier OS?
At present I would prefer to stay with the earlier OS until the bugs in ios4 are resolved, although I guess that a couple of apps that require ios4 to work will just not function.
    Any advice or comments appreciated.

You can only restore an iphone to iOS 4, as that is the only software currently signed by Apple. When you get your new phone, and restore from backup, iOS 4 will be installed on your phone. If your new phone comes with 3.1.3(possible, but unlikely), and you do not want to upgrade to iOS 4, your only choice is to set the phone up as new & not restore from backup.

  • Having issues with Yahoo mail on ios4 on a 3GS

Is anyone else experiencing issues with Yahoo mail on their 3GS after the upgrade to ios4?? Keep getting an imap server error, but gmail works fine.

Same problem. I have two Yahoo! Mail accounts. One stopped sending mail, while the other was fine. (Both could receive, however.) To solve that, I deleted the problematic account from the phone and reinstalled it. It worked... until I synced by iPhone with iTunes. Now both Yahoo! Mail accounts will not work, and deleting them and reinstalling them does nothing.
Apple had better fix this. (Or I'll whine louder.)

A Restore is performed using iTunes. Your iPhone is wiped clean and the most recent version of the firmware is installed. You can Restore with your backup or as a new phone, i.e. without your backup. See the appropriate manual for more detail...

  • IOS4 issue on 3GS-can't access pictures or use camera!

I updated my 3GS with the iOS 4 software as soon as it was available. I did all the things Apple adviced me to do prior to the update- such as transfer bought items and backup my iphone.
After updating the 3GS with iOS 4 everything seemed to be going well, except for 2 things.....I can't start the camera and I can't reach my pictures.......when I click on either- the iphone starts connecting to the picture library, but after 4-5 secs the program shuts down and I'm back in home-mode!
I've tried to restore from factory settings but the same thing remains (and restore with previous saved security backup)...can't access pictures or use the camera.
Although if I restore and set up as "new iphone" instead of backing up previous settings and media everything works! Camera works and I can enter picture area (although off course it is empty.....being a new iphone)
So there seems to have been a problem with the backup prior to the iOS4 update.....
Funny thing is that when I have the iphone connected to the pc and I look at iTunes....there is 1.65 GB of pictures on my iphone...although I just can't see it.....
Also in the previous iTunes there used to be a tab for "pictures" just like "movies" "Music" "tv-shows" etc etc......no the "picture" tab is missing.........?!?!
My wife also has a 3GS and I did the software update on hers.....and there everything works just fine!!
I have so far come to the conclusion that I could restore to factory settings and start fresh with the option "set up as new iphone", but then I would loose all contacts.....all programs and email settings........which is a pain in the butt.........
I'd appreciate if someone could help me because the help desk in Norway (Apple resellers) don't have a clew.....
    Anyone?!?
    Thanks in advance

Someone gave me help in my own thread. They used a Mac program and deleted files, but Im on Windows 7.
    I used iBackupBot 3.0.7
Just load it up (I had my phone connected). The select a backup and then select 'Browse and export media' button then on the pop up window is a complete list of all my missing media. There is an export button in the top corner.
I have all my photos and videos back now YAY!
    Thanks all!

  • Ios4 crashing my 3GS

My phone worked wonderfully until i upgraded to this ios4. Now the phone "crashes" (shows me the pic of the cord and itunes) CONSTANTLY!!!! I have restored it too many times to count, lost half of my phone contacts and have even gone so far as to restore it to one of my kids phones backups. I am so frustrated!!! There was NOTHING wrong with this phone and now it is a worthless piece of junk. I can't wait for Apple to call to tell me that I can purchace a new one!!

Hello, I have attempted to update my iphone with the new update to OS/4 i have the 3gS 16gb and it stopped working.... I returned my iphone and was given a new one again I did the update on the same day and guess what? yep it doesn't work either, and when attempting to restore it I get the following message "The iphone "iphone" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build" now it dosen't switch on either I have now retuned it back to Apple who say they will look into it and replace it...... maybe i will be 3rd time lucky?
Good luck to anyone else who has had the same problem and it you were able to restore it please leave a message to say how because I feel like i have had my right arm cut off. I am using "windows 7" and wondered if maybe they are not compatable with each other.

  • IOS4.x on 3GS mail trouble

I upgraded my 3gs yesterday to latest iOS4.x
I use Exchange to sync my iPhone with my work, and under iOS3 I got all my mails on my iPhone, and old mails in the system would be automatically downloaded to the iphone; in short, the whole mail library was available.
Now, with iOS4.x I only get mails from the last month (200 mails?) - I want all my mails!
The weird thing is - my calendar fetches old things, so why not mail?
The IT guys at work are quite sure they did not change anything during the 30 minutes I went from iOS3 to iOS4.
How do I get access to / sync with ALL my mails?

On your phone, when you're in the mail app, inbox, scroll down to the bottom...tap "Load More Messages...".

  • UPgrade to ios4 killing my 3gs

I use my 3gs for a second line and have tried a bunch of resets to get it to not be so laggy. To no avail..... Seriously apple I have an iphone 4 and the original plus 3g and 3gs. Get over this crap tatic of making the old phone seem old by killing its software with lagg and release the fix already .... This is not cute anymore. I know you guys did it to sell and force people to upgrade haven't you sold enough iphone 4's yet??????????????????????

This is totally ridiculous! I'm having the same issues too. Usually my phone plays music all day and now with IOS4 the music will often skip or slow down momentarily. Not to even get into the reception problems....
I used to be a proud Apple shareholder, but am now completely frustrated. Hopefully part of this gets resolved tomorrow at the Apple store. Everybody with these issues needs to start complaining very vocally to Apple, whether it is via phone, forums, or stores. Something has to be done about these issues!!!

  • After update to iOS4 my iPhone 3Gs doesn't sync ringtones anymore

After updating my iPhone 3Gs to iOS4, I don't see my synchronized ringtones on my iPhone. If I couple my iPhone to iTunes, I can see the ringtones in the iPhone. But if I go to the sound settings of the iPhone, I don't see the ringtones at all.
    Can someone help me

I think I have the solution. I crfeated new ringtones yesterdya by converting them to aac files, then changing the extension to .m4r and dragging them to itunes. I also had a missing icon next to the custom ringtones. The only ringtones that would sync to my iphone are the 2 that I purchased. I tried to play the customer ringtones and windows told me they cannot be played because the original file cannot be located, would you like to locate it? I clicked yes and searched my desktop. I had saved all the ringtones to a file on my desktop so i knew easily where to find them. I clicked the file for the ringtone I had tried to play, clicked on open and it began playing. the missing icon was now gone in itunes. Windows then asked if I wanted it to search the same location for other missing files. I clicked yes and all of my newly made ringtones now will play. I re-synced my phone and they now appear in my ringtones on my iphone. hope this works for you.
