  • Typing Spanish characters with English keyboard

I have both British and Spanish language inputs on International from System Preferences so I can switch between them.
This constrains me to use the character palette.
Does anyone know the keystrokes for accented vowels in Spanish, using English keyboard?
    ...as in á, é, í, ó, ú and ü
    Thanks in advance

Yes, this feature does exist still in Mac OS X.
To activate this feature, do the following:
    1. Open System Preferences.
    2. Choose the International Preference Pane.
    3. Click the Inputs tab.
    4. Check the Character Palette.
    5. You will notice a flag appear in your status bar next to your battery Life.
    6. Click the flag, and select Show Character Palette.
    7. From there you can choose the characters you want.

  • When typing a word document my laptop keeps sending the document

Can anyone help - When typing a word document my laptop keeps sending the document when I start typing. Not sure why. Any help appreciated

    Hello
I don?t know what you mean with laptop keeps sending the document but if you have this issue with office word or some other office application, try to check some forum where you can find discussion about similar theme.
I can not give you any precise answer but it is maybe because of office specific settings or you press accidentally some key on the keyboard and on this way interrupt symbols entering.

  • How can I make the thesaurus work for spanish words?

I have been using pages for about 4 months now, and usually I use it in english. I am currently writing a document in spanish but I can't manage to make the thesaurus, dictionary and wikipedia work for spanish words. I really need this to find synonyms.
Any idea what do I need to do? I don't want to change the whole pages into spanish, nor I want the spanish spell check (I know how to do that), I only need the thesaurus.

    Dear me, doesn't Español work?

  • When I use find, Firefox does not let me complete typing the word. Keystrokes effect the page as opposed to the find box (ex. backspace goes back a page instead of a character in the box). How do I fix this?

When I type in the Find box, Firefox interrupts me before I complete typing the word (usually in the first 4 letters. "Focus" moves from the Find entry box to the page itself. If I type backspace Firefox goes back one page of browsing, not one character in the box. I disabled Searchmenu, but that did not help.

    Thanks for responding Chris.
I hadn't restarted after disabling SearchMenu. Having restarted, it would appear that the problem was, in fact, SearchMenu. Which was my suspicion. Once Find highlights a "word" SearchMenu interrupts to offer its services. I guess I'll post on their board, to see if there's a solution.
I should have restarted before posting. My apologies. Rookie move.
    Thanks again, Chris.

  • When I type word to search in the Find box, Firefox will jump to the first grouping of letters it recognizes. I have to click back in the find box to continue typing my word. How can I make this stop?

I wanted to search for the word "medieval" on a web page. I started typing the word in the Find box. After I had typed "med", Firefox put the cursor on the word "medicate" in the web page. I have to click back in the Find box to continue typing my word. This is extremely annoying because sometimes I have to click back in the Find box after every letter.

    Thanks for responding Chris.

  • Memory Game interation - letters with accents

Hello, I have set up the Memory Game interaction in Cap. 7. I want the user to match English and French terms. However, any letters with accents (année = year) simply do not show up in the active game. I can indeed enter them when making up the game, but when I go to run the game, all such letters are simply ignored (omitted). Instead of année, one sees anne! What can be done? Thank you. Marvin DuBois

    Thanks again, Lilybiri. Here's to hoping . . .
By the way, perhaps I should mention that I've found what appears to be a work-around. In Memory Game, one can insert text or pictures. I've typed out all the words in Word, and then taken snips (screenshots) of the French terms with accents. Thus far it seems to work perfectly. The terms in Word are on a white background, and I've managed to get the font size about right, and thus no appreciable difference shows up between the text and graphic versions.
Perhaps I will run into problems at some point, i.e. perhaps the text and graphic versions will scale differently. But I don't know that this will be a problem. (I'm just preparing for the worst . . . )
    Thanks again. Marvin

  • Unicode characters with accents won't display in Java Swing applications

I'm using FreeMind (a Java Swing application) and I need to enter classical Greek characters with accent marks. When I type an accented Greek character, FreeMind displays the unaccented character. However, I can type the accented character in MS Word, then copy and paste into FreeMind, the accented character appears.
One of the FreeMind developers indicated this was a Java Swing issue, not FreeMind, and suggested I test with another Swing application. So, I installed jEdit and got exactly the same results. I can paste an accented character into jEdit, but I cannot type it in directly.
I'm using Windows Vista with Java 6 Update 22 (build 1.6.0_22-b04). I also tested on a XP Pro box with Java 1.6.0_18-b07 and got the same result.
One other note: A couple days ago, I was able to type accented Greek characters into FreeMind. But it only worked for a couple days and then the behavior reverted to unaccented characters. It is possible, but I don't recall specifically, that I updated Java during the time and that may indicate a bug in one version of Java but not another.
Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
    Darin

    Walter,
The link you provided does not appear to describe the Greek Polytonic keyboard. (The page also describes using the "Option" key as the dead key. There is no "Option" key on my keyboard. I'm using a Sony VGN-NS140E purchased in Chicago, i.e. standard physical US keyboard.)
Please see http://darindavis.net/languages/keyboard_Greek.pdf for a detailed description of how to use the Greek (Polytonic) keyboard in Windows to produce a complete set of accented classical Greek characters. This method works in MS Word and Notepad. I enabled the Greek (Polytonic) keyboard with:
Windows (Vista) Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Change Keyboards > General > Add > Greek (Greece) > Greek Polytonic
A test that will demonstrate whether you can replicate the error is to do the following in both MS Word (or Notepad) and jEdit (or FreeMind):
    1. Enable the Greek Polytonic keyboard
    2. Type "\" then "e" which should produce an epsilon with smooth breathing and grave accent (ἒ)
When I do this in MS Word or Notepad, I see the epsilon with smooth breathing and grave accent. When I do this in jEdit and FreeMind, I only see an epsilon.
I recorded a screencast to illustrate the problem: http://www.screencast.com/t/TRKkKQrCgbN
Actually, this problem is transient. Sometimes FreeMind or jEdit will display accented characters, other times it won't. Ironically, the first time I recorded the above referenced screencast, a few characters in jEdit did appear with accents. A couple minutes later, I re-recorded the screencast and as you can see jEdit did not display the accents. Between the two recordings I literally did nothing other than stop the Jing recording and start a new one. There is another variable at play here and I can't determine what it is. The most likely source seems to be Java since MS Word and Notepad consistently display accent characters.
    Thanks,
    Darin

  • Problem with accent in Title

    Hi there,
I'am using Adobe Captivate 6 on a mac, in French.
On each slide I have a Title (area defined in my main slide).
In the Title area, I cannot type accent such ü ö, but é à are working. In other text areas, is it working.
What could I do ? Is it a bug ?
    Many thanks for your Help

Yes I tried with antother fonts such as Arial Times New Roman, it is the same.
I experience this also with other placeholders not only title ones, BUT... I found a partial issue.
When I am typing the wanting caracter such as "ü" in the search filed, and then Copy/Paste in my Title Placeholder it works.
I realy think is it a bug.

Cannot help you, just hope someone of the staff pops in. It seems a bit strange however that this issue is only with the Title placeholders... the Spanish users had similar issues all the time. Did you try to change the font?

  • Arabic text with accents shown broken

    Hello,
In FireFox 4, Arabic text with accents (ًٌٍَُِّْ) is shown broken. It was displayed correctly in previous versions and also in IE.
Consider please the following examples, and compare between the words with and without accents. You can see the gaps between the letters:
    دعم فَيَرفُكس
    مُتَصَفِّحُ فَيَرفُكس هُو مُتَصفح الانترنت الأفضل فى العالم
The problem is not site specific. It is common to all sites with Arabic texts. I'll just provide an example URL. Compare the display of FF4 with previous versions or with IE.
Thank you.. You are the best !! :)

BTW, disabling/enabling the option "allow web pages to use their own fonts" had no effect. The broken text problem is the same in either case.

  • How to convert PDF with accented letters that are not Unicode?

    Hello all,
I have a PDF letter that is written in Spanish. When I copy and paste the Spanish word: organización
... it is pasted to Noepad or Word as:
    organizaci
    ´
    on
The word displays properly in the PDF, however I believe it was created originally as a combination of characters and NOT as a unicode character.
Is there some way I can export this to create the proper accented characters?  Is there some specialized converter for this?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

  • Pages 5.2: two letters with accent (e.g. "éé") issue

I use the Dutch version of Pages 5.2 with OS X 10.9.2.
Whenever I type two vowels that both have accents (e.g. "één", "héél" or "dóór") my typing cursor disappears as soon as I enter the second accent. Normally (as in: in Pages '09), this would be the order of typing:
    ' e ' e
The accent is highlighted in yellow and when I press 'e' it creates the 'é' character. Pretty straightforward. However, in Pages 5.2 the second accent isn't highlighted in yellow and makes my cursor disappear, giving me this:
    é'
Pretty annoying. Anyone else experience this?

The behavior that you are experiencing does not occur with a North American version of Pages v5.2.
Try just holding down the letter e and waiting for the accent pop-up panel. Then you can either choose the accented character choice with mouse, trackpad, or keyboard (in this case 2).

  • Characters with accent in Sent Messages

In Mail, writting a message in french, why the following sentence with accents:
"J'ai réfléchi à la meilleure solution pour cette opération"
    becomes in the Sent Messages
"J'ai réfléchi à la meilleure solution pour cette opération"
Is there any fonts not to use? In that instance, I believe I used Tahoma

If I remember correctly I might have done a reply to a mail, typed my message, then select all text (so including the original mail at the bottom) and change the font. It is a mistake from my part. Normally I would change only the font of my own text only.
There not really any reason why a font change should cause such a problem. All fonts used in OS X have the same encoding, and emails contain charset= statements to tell apps what encoding to use when reading (you can see this code by doing View > Message > Raw Source). For some reason Mail is using the wrong encoding for reading those.
