Typsetting in Czech!

Hi, I'm trying to copy and paste a translated word document in Czech into my design template in CS5.  However it's not bringing across all the accents.  I then change the font to the Corporate font I have to use (Helvetica Neue Regular) and it replaces some of the accents with a square box.  However if I select Arial the translation is perfect?  Any ideas how I can continue to use the Corporate font and for it to fully translate?

This is a little bit misleading...
The text from Word contains the correct UniCode calls for the accented characters, but the fonts you are attempting to use do not have the right character set.
The font you're trying to use - Helvetica Neue - doesn't have all of the right characters.
To make the accents appear automatically, you must use fonts in InDesign that are UniCode compliant, such as an OpenType Pro font.
So far as I know, all of the Adobe OpenType fonts with "Pro" in the name have the full complement of glyphs necessary to typeset Czech.
PostScript and TrueType fonts do not always have the full UniCode compliant character sets so the accented characters are replaced by unwanted characters.
This is true... but sometimes, OpenType fonts (like, for example, the OT fonts from Adobe labeled "Standard") don't have all of the glyphs necessary for Czech, and sometimes TrueType fonts do have all of 'em.
It is most likely that the Helvetica Neue Regular you are attempting to use is not UniCode compliant.
It's most likely the case that you are using a Unicode-compliant version of Helvetica Neue - maybe the .dfont from OS 10.4 is encoded in MacRoman, but I can't say for sure - but just because a font has Unicode encoding doesn't necessarily mean that it has all the glyphs you need. There are all kinds of Unicode-compliant fonts out there that don't have Czech glyphs. Likewise, there are fonts out there that have all of the necessary Czech glyphs that aren't Unicode, such as old MacOS fonts in MacCE (Central European) encoding.
So, Macdoctor, your basic message is correct ("use a font that has all the right glyphs in the right encoding") but your explanation of the details is a bit off.
Claire, a quick Google search tells me that there is a version of Helvetica Neue that includes Central European support. If you must use Helve Neue, then you'll have to buy a license for the version that supports the language you're typesetting. If you are working with a small amount of text, there are a number of ways to fake it (like, for example, using combining accents, or manually kerning accents into place) but if you're working on a long document then probably you'd be best served by just buying the font that has the glyphs you need.

  • HT2534 I am from the U.S, now currently in the Czech Republic. Just bought an iphone with vodafone. I can't get past the account setting on itunes, etc...either way, How do I get ENGLISH SPEAKING HELP instead of being redirected to the Czech Language stor

I am somewhat new to apple products. I am from the U.S. and currently studying in the Czech Republic.
I have an itouch with an apple ID, but lately I can't get it to charge or work. After pluggin the usb recharge cable to the computer at my universities facility, it gives a black page with a picture of the cable and the arrow pointing to itunes logo. The school's computer labs don't have i tunes or anything like that.
I also just got an iphone 4S and have been trying to set up and i can't seem to complete the process for the itunes so i can install the apps i had in the itouch and also to get new apps. It stops me and says to contact the itunes for support right after the input of address and phone number information, etc...
The purchase was made in the czech republic from a vodafone store, but if i remember right i configured it to US settings so I don't have to deal so much with everything showing up in Czech.
I tried getting help by going to the support, but after putting in my  name, email, phone number for scheduling a call with them it rejects the phone number because i am putting in my czech phone number. Putting in my previous US number would be useless because I am not in the US and that number is probably inactive.
I would to get some English speaking support while being here in the czech republic.
    Any advice?

If you are completely confident that you didn't hide it, then you purchased those with different apple id. If you completely confident that you purchases with same apple id then you have hidden it. One of the other or you are speaking about a miracle. While miracles are possible they are not very likely. • Czech smart quotes

I was wondering how to set Czech smart quotes in Pages 09. I have set Language in System Preferences->International to Czech, but I get US smart quotes anyway, even though the rest of language specific formatting (p.e. date) is in Czech.
I have tried to set language to German and it works fine, you get German smart quotes. But setting it to Czech, you do not!
Can that actually be a coding bug, because the locale for Czech is badly programmed? Or is it possible to set it in a different way?

_At this time, the quotes aren't ruled by the operating system but by the application._
The plist used is the one linked to the localized version of iWork which is used.
As there is no Czech iWork version, we must rely on a surgery applied to the used localized version.
If the OP uses iWork in English, he must edit the english dedicated file.
If he uses the German version it get the correct quotes automatically.
From my point of view, the real problem with the way this feature is treated is that Apple assumes that the straight chars must be replaced by single chars which is perfectly wrong.
The author of the FREE program entitled Bean wa able to offer a better support of this feature.
Bean gives us the abilty to deplace the straight double quotes by the pairs
LEFT-POINTING DOUBLE ANGLE QUOTATION MARK + NARROW NO-BREAK SPACE
    and
NARROW NO-BREAK SPACE + RIGHT-POINTING DOUBLE ANGLE QUOTATION MARK
    required by French of France.
At this time, it seems that Apple developers aren't so cute

  • Why can't I use my norwegian visa card in Czech iTunesstore?

I moved back to Czech and using my iPhone 4 which I bought in Norway, with Czech sim card. When I changed details in iTunes store to get the Czech one my norwegian visa card would not be cleared to use. Why and how to do it? I dont have Czech visa card or any other Czech cards.
    Thnx people for help
    Radek

You must have a credit card issued and billed in the country whose iTunes Store you wish to use.  You cannot use a Norwegian credit card in the Czech iTunes Store. If you do not and cannot get a Czech credit card, you will have to see if you can buy prepaid iTunes cards there. I don't know if those are sold in the Czech Republic. Another option may be to get someone else you know who has an account in the Czech iTunes Store can give you a gift certificate.
If you cannot get a prepaid iTunes card or gift certificate and you can't get a Czech credit card, then you will not be able to buy anything from the iTunes Store

  • How to print from iPhoto in the Czech Republic?

There is no option to select Czech rep. in the iPhoto print services. Closest state - Austria does not accept any Czech adress, therefore no option to get it send back to here. Does anybody have any trick, how to get it printed, exported etc to get picture, photo books to paper in this area? Thank you.

Nope - yu can preview -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
and send the PDF to a service that will print from the PDF - Presto Photos claims to be able to do that - I have no personal knoledge of them or their products - just a result of a google search - there probably are others

  • Price policy of Apple in the Czech Republic

    Hi,
can anyone please send me an email contact to somebody in Apple who is responsible for managing European countries dealerships and controls (more or less) the price policy of those dealers? I just don't get it! On the three lists of countries by gross domestic product at purchasing power parity per capita which is found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita  you can clearly see, that USA is somewhere between 7th and 9th place of all countries with around 47000$. On the other hand, the Czech Republic is between 36 and 39 place with about 25000$. That's little more than half of the USA one. Can anyone tell me how it is possible that US citizen, who has nearly twice the purchasing power of the Czech citizen, can have:
New 2011 Mac Book Pro 13 for 1199$ while in Czech Rep. the very same model costs 1547$?  29% more
New 2011 Mac Book Pro 15 (2,4GHz quad-core i7) for 2199$ while in Czech Rep. the very same model costs 2772$  26% more
New 2011 Mac Book Pro 17 (2,4GHz quad-core i7) for 2499$ while in Czech Rep. the very same model costs 3216$  28% more
I would understand that the prices would be about the same. It's not possible to sell those Mac Books for 500$ in Congo just because its a poor country. But hey!!! 26-9% MORE expensive??? Come on!!! And please don't tell me that the cost MUST be higher because of the distribution or transportation. These are made in China so they must travel huge lengths anyway and I bet the cost to transport them to US is actually higher than to Europe. It's not the exchange rate problem because US dollar is much cheaper than it used to be several years ago. And I don't think it's a legislation problem of EU or Czech Rep. either because other brands like Acer, HP, Lenovo, Asus etc. with similar configuration are noticeably cheaper than Apple's stuff. I think that this has something to do either with Apple's European, or Central Europe price policy, or the dealers are simply out of Apple's control, they did a silent cartel and they are stuffing their own pockets. It's a shame when you consider how great the Apple products are and how affordable they can be for US citizens. Unfortunately not for the Czech ones. I think somebody at Apple should definitely do something about it. Please, let me know where can I officially send my complaints.
    Thanks
    Vit

    http://www.apple.com/asia/reseller/aar/ph-list.php
I don't see Wellcom listed on that page, so unless they exist under another name, it would appear that they are not authorized, though I don't know if that page is completely up to date.
I bought it with their promise that it comes with a real apple warranty.
You can check the status of the warranty by entering the serial number here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If the date of expiration is not one year from the date you purchased the iPod (give or take a day or two), then the reseller was not authorized and/or sold you a used iPod.
I was surprised to see that itouch 8gb is only selling at 9990
That sounds too good to be true, and when something seems too good to be true, it usually is.
I was shocked that it is the old itouch 4g w/o IOS5 . was I defrauded?
Either that or they had very old stock, which is certainly possible though unlikely for any authorized dealer.
is there any diff in price bet 4g w/o ios5 and w/ ios5?
Apple reduced the price on the iPod touch 8GB model back in October. And all new iPods come with iOS 5. An iPod touch with iOS 4 is old stock.

  • How to realize czech texts with ResourceBundles

    Hi!
I have got a big problem trying to make one of our german applications available in czech.
We are using ResourceBundles with .properties files for our texts and have now translated them into czech. When loading the bundle by calling:
ResourceBundle rb = ResourceBundle.getBundle("x.x.x.BundleName", locale);all seems to work and there is no exception thrown.
But when i try to get any text out of it i.e. by calling:
    rb.getString("name");i get an exception:
java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find resource for bundle java.util.PropertyResourceBundle, key name
I tryied to use native2ascii with several encodings (Cp1252, ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-2, UTF-8, UTF-16, ...) but i never got one that realy works the way i want. Most of the encodings i tryied changes some of the special characters in the file but also left some of them so that i can get some translated texts but most of them with boxes or question symbols within. native2ascii with UTF-8 encoding only answers with a sun.io.MalformedInputException in the comand line. UTF-16 initially looked fine cause nearly all special characters was translated into \uXXXX escape sequences but also there i got a problem with one special character: (hope it will be displayed correctly here). This character seems to annoy the native2ascii tool cause the following characters would also be translated into escape sequences even if this is not necessary. Also i got some question symbols in the GUI again (having the charset in the HTML/JSP file set to UTF-16).
I don't know why the original translated property file could not be read in getting an exception only when trying to get a text not when loading the file. Another thing confusing me is that all encodings (except UTF-16) that i tryied for the translated file corrupted the file by seperating each character with a blank one (so i.e. name = jmno appered as n a m e = j m \u00e9 n o).
Some of the special characters in the translation are: (and also some other characters with those symbols).
Please can anyone help me or does anyone has experiences with translating a (web) project to czech or any similar/related language.
    Thanks a lot
    Juergen

You also seem to have a problem with using native2ascii. You say that you tried to use it with Cp1252, ISO-8859-1 (among others), but how can you possibly have a Czech file in those code pages? They don't support the Czech characters set. You simply need to know which source code page your file is actually in, and then run native2ascii on the file specifying that encoding. I have never had a problem executing native2ascii on a Czech file, it seems to work just fine - as long as the correct source encoding is used.

  • Issue with Czech characters in PDFs generated from RSTXPDFT4

    Hi,
We have a requirement to generate PDF documents from the spool of the Billing document outputs in our project.
For this we are using the standard program RSTXPDFT4, which converts the SAP script OTF to PDF format.
But the Czech characters in the billing document output are not getting displayed in the PDF generated out of it.
We are already using a device type I2HP4 when creating the print request , which supports Latin-2 Character set ( ISO 8859-2 ), to which the special characters
    of East European languages belong.
Even then , the czech characters are not getting displayed in the PDF generated.
We have raised  a message to SAP for this, and SAP informed us that currently the only solution to this is to use Latin 2 soft fonts,
and to upload these soft fonts into R/3 System using report RSTXPDF2 as they contain the Eastern European special characters plus all the other characters in ISO 8859-2.
But, since character font definitions (font files) are protected by copyrights, SAP informed us that they cannot provide these font files and we have to acquire
these latin-2 font files by searching in search engines in the internet.
If anyone has the information where we can get these "Adobe type 1 Latin-2" font files with '.PFB' extension,  for the proper display of Czech characters, please let me know.

    Hi,
Did you or anyone manage to find a reasonable solution for this issue?
I'm currently facing something similar but with Polish characters instead.
I tried using RSTXPDF2 to upload .PFB and .TTF files but to no avail.

  • Send purchase order via email (external send) with special Czech characters

    Hi all,
I am sending a purchase order created with ME21N via email to the vendor using "external send".
The mail is delivered without any problems, PO is attached to the mail as PDF file.
Problem is that special Czech characters as "ž" or "u0161" are not displayed, a "#" (hash) appears instead.
This problem occurs when language for PO output = EN.
Tests with language = CS worked out fine, but the whole form incl. all texts are in Czech as well; so no valid solution since it needs to be in English.
We checked SAPCONNECT configuration and raised note 665947; this is working properly.
When displaying the PO (ME23N) special characters are shown correctly as well.
Could you please let me know how to proceed with that issue?!
    Thanks.
    Florian

    Hi!
No, it's not a Unicode system.
    It is maintained as:
Tar.          Lang.        Lang.        Output Format                           Dev. type
    Format
    PDF     EN     English                                                     PDF1
Using this option, character "ž" was not displayed correctly, but "Ú" was ok.
All other Czech special characters are not tested so far.
    Thanks,
    Florian

  • Czech letters in RFC- XI-JDBC scenario

    Hello experts,
we want to transfer data to a database in a RFC->XI->JDBC scenario. Everything works fine, but when we transfer czech characters, we only see "?" in the database where a "Č" is expected. In the XI system the letters are displayed correctly (before and after mapping).
How can we solve this problem? Is there any setting for this in the receiver CC?
    Best regards,
    David

    hi David,
try using ![CDATA[]] in your mapping, i mean send value in to the target field as ![CDATA[ Č ]].

  • Copy paste text from pdf exported from Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer control with Czech specific characters produced box charactex or ?.

Used Visual studio 2012. In our project there is used the Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer control. In the report handled by the control are TextBoxs with a text with Czech specific characters e.g. (ř, ě, ...) . When exporting the report to pdf,
characters are displayed correctly. However when the text with czech characters in the pdf if copied and  placed into the seach box in the pdf document only box characters are displayed. The TextBox in the report use the default font Arial. When the report
is exported to Word, and then the Word document is saved as a pdf document, its ok. Coping a text with Czech charactes in the result pdf document and pasting into the search box displays again Czech characters not box characters.
Also when in the report handled by the ReportViewer control are several Tex Boxes and some of the boxes contains Czech characters and some not, after exporting to a pdf document there is problem with text selection. When in the pdf document I'm trying to
select several paragraphs, some with Czech characters and some without them, selection behaves strangely and jumps from one paragraph to another unexpectedly.

    Hi,
did you managed to avoid those squares?
BTW: if any such char. is encountered in a line, the entire line of text is grabbled.
I've tried even the ReportViewer from MSSQL 2014, but got the same problem. When I've tried IL Spy, I found a code, where it is checked if the PDFFont is composite - depending on that a glyph is created. But that still only a guess.
I've tried Telerik's reporting, they have similar problem (beside other), but not with the special characters. They produced scuares for some sequences like: ft, fi, tí.
Please give any info you got.
Until then my advices for you:
    a) try JasperReports (seems theyre most advanced, although it is java)
    b) Developer express has quiet quality reports - and it seems they got those special chars. right :D
    c) I created a ticket and waiting for Telerik's response (but if I had to choose reporting, I vould stick with a) or b)

  • CMD+ shortcut not working on Czech keyboard

    Hello,
I have this problem. CMD+ and some other shortcuts are not working or are working weird on Czech keyboard. For example it works in Preview (sometimes) but not in Safari.
On Czech keyboard there is + sign on the key with number 1. (normal press = "+" shift and press = "1"). When I activated Keyboard Viewer in could see that when I press CMD the "+" key turns to "1". So then its impossible to press CMD+. The weird thing is that in Preview it sometimes works like CMD+ and sometimes like CMD and 1 (I really don't know why, in both cases i have a pdf file opened).
Then I tried setting CMD and 1 as a shortcut for Zoom In instead of CMD+. Here is another weird thing. When I pressed CMD+ the shortcut was set to CMD+ with no problem, but when I want to use it it always acts as CMD and 1.
Can somebody explain me why this all works weird like that or maybe can somebody look into it and fix it somehow?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Milan

This could be lots of things.  I'd say it was some type of system corruption.
First, thing is to define a new user  & see if the problem exits there.
If not, -- good news -- it is probably some finder preference.  You need to delete the finder preferences.
Otherwise, the corruption is somewhere else.
    the  swag stuff…
You may want to run these "standard" fixes if the problem persists.
Check the amount of free space on your harddrive.  You should have a several gigs free.
    You should run disk utility
    a) verify the disk
    b) update your permissions.
    Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive is being checked.

    Hi,
On the XML template i have harcoded some Czech characters like, měna & Peněžní
if any Czech character has small v on top of the character, then the report output prints as ? instead of that character. For examplae, měna & Peněžní in PDF output prints as m?na & Pen??ní . It prints rest of the Czech characters correctly. The issue happens only with PDF output. When i keep the Format as EXCEL then it prints the Czech characters correctly. Can any one help me on this issue.
