The option to update wirelessly without any computer have been introduce with iOS5. Therefore, you can't update yours without a computer since you are still in iOS5.

Wagglee, it's a matter of RAM. iOS 7 requires 512 MB of RAM. Currently the only the iPod 5 has the required 512 MB of RAM, and there is no way to increase the RAM size on an iPod. Hope this helps, Cheers.

Sorry, when you permitted your friend to do that, you forfeited the right to an out of warranty replacement.
Apple makes it quite clear that if you or anyone else attempts to open the phone, not only is all warranty/support voided, but you forfeit the right to an out of warranty replacement. -
