U Verse speed recommendation for Fire Stick

We have several Amazon Fire Sticks. I currently have U-verse Elite and am wondering should I upgrade to a faster internet speed for maximum viewing/performance? What speed do you that own Fire Sticks recommend please?

Without having any idea of where you live, or any inside knowledge of AT&T's expansion plans, there's not a whole lot we can tell you.

Dont buy this model again, this is the most common problem and i have gone through 4 of these 6th gen nanos all with the same problem. You can find youtube videos that show you how to fix it yourself but you run the risk of breaking your ipod, also opening the ipod voids any warrently.

I've been kind of thrown into the need to learn LV quickly. I've gone through the LV 101 videos, and got a decent start....but need to learn more in-depth quickly. I'm looking maybe for a book on amazon, that will get me as a noob started quickly...but also, something needed beyond just the basics of trying to explain the concept of the front panel and block diagram screens....
I'm needing to get into learning how to wire up things like even structures...being able to allow the user to right click an object on the screen, present a drop down menu, and change the object based on their selection. I've posted here before looking how to do multi-colored indicators..and starting to get a grip on some of that, but still not yet...
I'm looking at an example of an older version of the app I'm trying to create and improve on...and see how they were changing a boolean indicator (they used a round one, but was flat unlike the LED shaped ones)..but they were able to change the colors of the text and control with three different background and text combinations both when it was clicked, and programatically when a trigger was pressed...etc.
I'm seeing a structure they used called a "property node" and using colors under that to change it, it appears....I need to learn to understand that....but the application I have is a bit complex for me to track and figure out everything as it flows....
I thought I'd seen a recommendation for a book on this forum called: Labview for Everyone...but that is dated 2006...would this be too old since I'm working with LabView 2011?
Anyway, I'm looking through all the stuff in the NI site's Knowledgebase....but think getting a quality book that is a bit structured taking me from basics to more complex things would be the best way for me to learn and organize my thoughts.
I've programmed (awhile back) with Delphi for Object Pascal...and some java with Eclipse. But with Delphi, I have worked with an IDE...putting object on a screen, and then setting and programming properties...but LV is a bit different, and I'm just not familiar with all the objects available to me..and the graphical programming rather than writing code in there to handle things..is a bit new to me.
Anyway, hoping ya'll can give me some good book recommendations...and any links to web info greatly appreciated too.

Ok, we have to admit that information on certain elements as well as esp. performance might not be true because of the changes LV had undergone over the years (e.g. compiler changes in LV 2009/2010).
Adding to this, i urge you not only to look for technical expertise but also on "how do i approach a development task". I find this link a helpful source for this.

I went ahead and bought the book LabView for everyone. One thing however, I read in one review, that the book is light on the topic of event driven vi''s......which is something I'm definitiely needing information on....simple examples would be even better.

Aperture Library Recommendation for 3.3?

I have for some time worked with my Aperture library located on a USB connected disk drive following guidance I'd seen somewhere about not placing it on the same disk as the application software.
Post the upgrade to version 3.3, I'm wondering if this is still the best place for the library. Admitedly I haven't been able to use Aperture properly yet (because 2 weeks after the upgrade Aperture is still re-generating all my previews - a process slowed down by repeated lockups when trying to refresh Facebook albums - see https://discussions.apple.com/message/18722356#18722356) - but it seems much slower than before - with the spinning wheel there for long periods of time even when just scrolling through the list of projects and albums, let alone trying to make an adjustment or something else useful.
Is there a change in recommendation for 3.3 to bring the library onto the main disk or should it still be located somewhere else?

Where did you see this recommendation? It must have been a very specific situation.
The best place for an Aperture library is the fastest disk you have; and that usually should be your system drive. My Aperture library resides on the SSD system volume - perfect for speedy access to the library items.
If your library is too large for the system volume, the usual solution would be to remove it to an external volume (but you would need a very fast drive and a high speed connection, fire wire or thunderbolt), or to keep the library on the system drive, but relocate the master files to a different volume; that is what I have done. Don't let the system drive get too full, this will slow down the system and Aperture.
How large is your library? Upgrading should not take that long. Usually the upgrade does not take much processing, and will not recreate all previews. But Aperture 3.3. is very sensitive to corrupted libryries. Apple advises to rebuild the library before upgrading while still on Aperture 3.2.4, and only then upgrade the fixed library. But I see you are in good hands in the other thread with Kirby Krieger as advisor.

Hardware recommendations for render farm?

what would you recommend for a small render farm for mixed AE projects (mostly HD content, short projects with only a few seconds and layers and bigger ones with multiple HD layers and up to 15min or longer.)
is it better to have more cores (AMD opteron servers with 48 cores for example) or better more performance per core but less cores (Intel Xeon servers)?
And how much memory would be optimal?
What can you recommend for network connection to the shared storaged, how fast shall this be?

I like Harm's analogy better then mine. One prize cow vs. 20 regular cows. The imagery is very clear. In a production environment, where volume counts, more is better then a single top notch one. A single cow can only produce so much mik per day, no matter how extraordinary it is. But 20 can theoretically produce 20 times more (practically, maybe 17 to 18). Quantity, not quality. I'm not saying that you should get crappy hardware. Just good hardware, not high performance ones.
As you know, it's not because you buy a computer that costs twice as much, that you'll get twice the processing power. First of all, forget dual CPU computers for a render farm, it's not worth it. Get a regular quad core. As you compare prices vs. performance (do a chart), get the CPU that gives you the best bang for the buch (just before the price curve goes up).
I personally think 32GB is overkill in a render farm environment. 16GB is way more then enough. Remember that you're not doing a RAM preview farm (if such a thing exists), but rather, fractioning the render process to various computers. While 16GB is good, 2GB isn't. But 8GB can be an nice compromise. Remember, you're trying to drive the cost down of a computer, so you can buy many computers. But RAM is cheap, so, best bang for the buck, 16GB can be possible. Then again, it depends on other overall factors to keep the price for the computer down.
Network speed. Yes you could get 10GB NICs and a 10GB switch. But that can drive the price up substantially. If you can get a good price on them, great. If not, stick to 1GB. Get a motherboard that has 2x 1GB NICs on board, so you can aggregate the network connections together to get 2GB. You could eventually add a quad 1GB PCIe card down the road. The computer that has the project assets should have an aggregated quad (or more) NIC inside. You want to be able to push the media as fast as possible to the render farm.
Other things to consider... or rather, not consider. Graphic card is a non issue on a server farm. AE is all about CPU. Some mobos come with on-board graphics. Usually, it's cheaper, and consumes less power. You also want to drive the energy costs down when you multiply by X number of computers. Just get a KVM solution that will be able handle X computers. You don't need a RAID on render farm computers. A regular hard drive will do. I'd even go with a green drive that consumes less power.
And depending on how many computers you have, to reduce the footprint, you might want to get low profile rackmount casings and put them in a rack. Plus think of putting it in it's own room, because it'll be very noisy!

Recommendations for writable CDs on the Powermac G5? Please help.

I'm using a powermac g5 with 1.8gHz (powerpc 3.0) and Mac OSX 10.4. The drive is DVD RW DW-U21A.
Does anyone have any recommendations for brands of writable CDs that they have used in this machine? I've tried a couple and they got spat out, but they should have worked. Before I buy and return any more packs, I thought you guys might be able to help ...

For CD's, don't use over 74 min CD-R's. 80 min (and higher) can be VERY problematic.
Don't try to use any DVD-R over 8x- 16x often won't work. Use 8x, and burn slower:

Latest recommendation for custom screen development?

I'm trying to confirm my thoughts/assumptions on the development of custom screens. We are installing the various pieces of NW04s and expect the majority of our users to access ECC transactions through the SAP Portal (using Web GUI for HTML). Also, we will have a significant number of custom screen requirements; some may be enhancements to existing SAP delivered screens; others may be new screen development.
What is SAP's latest recommendation for custom screen development?
More specifically, what are various options and their advantages and disadvantages?
For example:
**Web Dynpro for Java
+ easy Portal integration
- requires NW Dev Studio/Infrastructure
**Web Dynpro for Java
+ Development tools within Workbench
- more difficult to integrate in the Portal
**Z transaction development with Screen Painter
**HTML/JavaScript or similar
etc....

For me , I have only two choices
1. Web Dynpro for Java
Great front end IDE to work with, only issue could be the performance issue, while Java is trying to communicate with SAP ECC.
2. Web Dynpro for ABAP
Relatively new, however a good tool to work with. Performance improvement compared to Java Web Dynpro.
I don't think you should have a concern of integrating this with Portal, as you have a separate iView for ABA Web Dynpro. The screen can be developed on the SAP ECC and then can be called from the Portal screen.
You still have other options like developing normal dynpro - but that will not give a look and feel of the web interface. BSP / PCUI are the other choices but given the roadmap of SAP for UI, I would stick to Web Dynpro for ABAP / Java.

Thank you for your quick reply. The "Knowbrainer website" has the following laptop recommendation for the best performance of the Dragon Naturally Speaking program. I looked through the Best Buy options--there are quite a few that offer what is recommended below. So which of the Best Buy options (that meet the specs below) should I buy? The specs, according to "Knowbrainer" are:
1. Core™ i7 Ivy Bridge with four cores and hyperthreading (eight threads). In other words, go with the highest Core™ i7 Ivy Bridge you can find as far as speed, number of cores, L3 cache, etc.
2. Look for at least 8 GB of RAM and preferably 16 GB of RAM. The reason for this is that there are going to be a lot of changes to the size and number of 64-bit applications over the next few years. 8 GB might do you just fine right now, but if you're going to go for five years with this laptop, then you're better off going with 16 GB of RAM looking down the road.
it's the processor, the amount of L3 cache and the RAM that form the core.
The bottom line: take into consideration that the computer needs to run both Windows 8 and DNS 12, and looking down the road to possibly DNS 13. Also, keep in mind that it's a given that whatever you're going to purchase now is going to be out of date inside of nine months. You just can't win at the rate that technology is advancing. Also, sometime next year Intel is going to introduce a whole new set of processors for both desktops and laptops that will raise the bar on performance. It's the game we play with hardware and Dragon.

Neither one is particularly advantageous. Streaming video will take a considerable amount of power, meaning you'll probably want to keep a MBP's power adapter connected.

Recommendations for Bluetooth GPS for N95

Has anyone got any recommendations for a Bluetooth GPS receiver (to improve the dire performance of the inbuilt one) available in UK?

I bought the Nokia N95 8GB for its 'all in one device 'convenience.
I bought an external Bluetooth GPS, not because the inernal was no good, or not accurate enough but because I did not want to destroy it with vibration and rain, strapped to the handlebars of my Yamaha XT225
I want to create tracks (kml?)that map out the roads, lanes and footpaths of Cebu, Philippines using my Motorbike, in places the car could not go.
I decided on the Wintec G-Rays2 (WBT-201). This is more than just a Bluetooth GPS, as it has a 'logger' function also (collecting up to 131,072 waypoints). It is also much quicker at acquisition than the internal GPS (34 seconds or if data is still in memory 4-33 sec).
Even in a car, the WBT-201 G-Rays2 unit, can be positioned on the dash, whilst from anywhere in the car, the N95 receives the NMEA0183 format data stream giving position, speed, altitude and time, together with estimated error and satellite status.
'Sports Tracker' works very well with this for receiving the data stream 'live'. Once 'captured' it has many 'export' formats of the captured information. Test 'Tracks' of the same 'Route' using the internal GPS and another time the WBT-201, show the external unit to be more accurate. Having said that, the internal GPS is actually pretty good at capturing the same track.
The only real 'negative' of the WBT-201, is the 'TMXTool' software (for configuring the settings, on the go, rather than connected to a PC), is for PPC, and not S60. However the 'TimeMachineX' software is OK for 'Windows' use.

The motorola sb6120 is what I used with great success. It's a docsis 3.0 modem so it's capable of the latest high speeds that comcast can offer. Good luck!

Recommendations for cooling pad for 15" MBP

Hi, I have found that I am using my macbook pro for watching movies and things in my bed a lot of the time. The computer gets really hot and the fans seem like they are going fast all the time.
I was wondering if there are any recommendations for cooling pads that could help prevent this.

To supplement the comments but Scott, I also believe that a cooling pad is not necessary. Your computer is engineered to cool itself. If you are concerned with higher than normal fan speeds and want to continue use on your bed, I would recommend something with a flat and hard surface such as a book or clipboard.
Many laptop coolers feature active cooling using fans. Note that many of these are not engineered specifically for your Macbook Pro. I've used a Zalman cooler that pushed air towards the bottom of my laptop and actually increased operating temperatures. I hypothesize that the directional air and angle of the cooler impeded the Apple designed internal passive/active cooling of the laptop. These devices are also burdensome in that you need to supply power to them.
In the end, the rather pricy Zalman cooler was more effective has a flat and hard surface than as an active cooler.
There are alternatives to active cooling, including a mat that absorbs quite heat energy by transforming solid crystals into a liquid. From what I've read these are effective for some time, but once all of the crystals have been liquified, is longer as effective (at least until the crystals re-solidify).
If you happen to find something that works particularly well with the Macbook Pro, please do share. Otherwise, a simple hard and flat surface will likely work very well and reduce heat/fan speeds while using your computer on an insulator (the bed).
