U2 iPod is REALLY Messed Up

I have an U2 iPod, and I was walking down the street one day and the iPod froze, then, when the battery ran out, I pluged it into the outlet and charged it, but when I tried to turn it on the apple logo appeared, and I hear it loading, then I hear a "Click" and it stops loading and goes into a Sad iPod picture, and I have tried Reseting it as well as putting in into disk mode, but neither worked because the loading sound followed by the click happenes over and over. Does anyone out there know what may have happened?

  • IPod is really messed up.

I don't know why.I don't know how. I was extra careful with this thing, but it crapped out on me.
Whenever I use my IPod, it always kinda loads, lags, then plays the song. However, when it is lagging, it makes this click noise after it is moving, like if you put your ear up to the back of it. I really don't understand why it could be this way, but I did hear about these having a faulty battery. Now however, it will not turn on, but comes up with either a folder with a ! or a sad faced Ipod and makes the clicking noise constantly. It also gives a link to this website.
Personally, I think it is just completley broken. It is crashed on me on several occasions, but has gone back to running normally.

My 40G iPod did most of the things you mentioned and I reset it and reloaded the music onto it a few times to try and sort it out before resorting to sending it to Apple.
Eventually (I didn't send it to Apple) I read a post on this forum (can't remember the link) which suggested wiping the iPod completely, i.e. reformatting the hard drive (on Mac I had the option of writing zeros to the entire disk to effectively overwrite ALL the information on the disk - don't know what that option is called in Windows. It may be secure erase or something like that.) BTW, at this point the iPod was not being recognised by my Mac when I plugged it in and I had to switch the iPod to disk mode to get it to even be recognised at all.
After writing zeros to the disk (this took several hours - I left it overnight) I then restored the iPod software with the newest version and reloaded all my songs. This wasn't totally straight forward, although I'm afraid I cannot remember what problems I had, but after a few worrying moments and lucky guesses(?) I got it all done.
Since then my iPod has not skipped, hung or frozen in any way.
What I'm saying is that although it may sound like the hard drive is clunking and clicking as if it has a physical, mechanical problem, it also makes those sort of noises when the disk information is corrupted. Hopefully someone who actually understands how hard drives work can give you a few more tips, but I am a computer idiot and I managed to make it work!

Quick Question Regarding To Interesting Symbols Showing Up On My iPod
Posted: Jul 3, 2006 3:43 PM Reply Email
When I reset my iPod (40gb) the whole thing resets and I hear a lot of noise coming from it and when it hits the apple logo and immediately after that is a sad face. Shortly after that a small screen comes up with a battery charger bar that shows it about 25% completed, not charging and it usually stays like that unless i reset it again. The support page answers the deal with each one but not both. And I can't get my ipod into Disk Mode. Help?

If you're getting the sad iPod and you can't put it in disk mode, and you can't restore it, then yes, it looks as though the iPod has crashed. You can send your iPod out to a company to do diagnostics/repair on it, or you could even try to do the repair yourself by finding and purchasing the HDD for your iPod, and then installing it yourself (try www.ebay.com or www.ipodmods.com for the parts and tools).
www.ipodresq.com and www.ipodmods.com will usually do the repair for you, and probably at a considerably lower price than what Apple would charge (since they just send out a replacement iPod rather than actually fixing the one that you sent in).

Thanks man. I took ur advice and the advice of others, went back to the Apple store, had them test the hard drive. It failed. So i recycled it and got a black 30gb flat screen iPod with video and color with 10% for recycling and $30 off for being a college student. and then throw in the apple care for 2 years at 60 bucks. it came to like $315. Man is it sweeeeet.

  • What the iPod touch really needs.

So I may have missed a thread on this... But does it not seem logical that what the the iPod touch really needs bluetooth. I could care less about using bluetooth for audio, synking or anything else but 1 thing...
Given that the iPhone is locked into AT&T wouldn't a bluetooth enabled pone allow you to use bluetooth's networking abilities to share you cell phones data plan? Granted some wireless providers (cough*verizon*cough) cripple there phones and disable this feature. but it would be at least an option to some people.

The ipod touch does not support bluetooth nor does it have bluetooth built into the device. THere are bluetooth adapters that you might use for like headphones but nothing like data transfer and what you mention. If this is a feature you would like on a future ipod then leave your feedback at the link below.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
THese forums are for technical questions regarding the ipod touch and not for speculation or rumors. You should go elsewhere for such a thing. If your interested in how bluetooth works on the iphone then it is best to post your question about that product in the right forum linked below.

Ipod classic 160GB very slow sync and cannot connect to itunes store windows 7 ansd itunes 10.6.0.40. I have now been trying for 3 weeks to restore my iPod. Really frustrated, any ideas would be welcome.

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

  • Icloud is really messing up my mail? anyone else

this morning my mac mail has been broken all day.... i checked with comcast, and att... and tryed to call apple... but they wanted 49 bucks... but eventually att put me thru to a tech.... apparently this has been a real problem today for about 1.2 percent of icloud users.... it has really messed me up as i have a home business..... anyone else?

Same problem here -- worst e-mail outage I've experienced in ages, and going on far too long to be excusable as a simple server issue. No point calling Apple, such a widespread outage is already on their radar and it's already common knowledge that they have screwed up. Making noise is not the worst approach in this kind of situation (denied service by a giant corporation that's unresponsive to your woes), so just complain far and wide until Apple (finally) gets their act together.

  • HT6030 Help!  I upgraded to Maverick and my emails are now really messed up.  It flagged over 5,000 messages when I haven't flagged anything.  Now, the email message that people are sending me is actually an email message from years ago.  Any explanations

Help!  I upgraded to Maverick and now my emails are really messed up.  It flagged over 5,000 emails that I have never flagged.  Now, it shows a message from someone this morning, but the content is an email that I received years ago.  My Iphone and Ipad are fine.  Any ideas?  I can't read mail off of my macbook because the email isn't what these people are sending!  Help!

Thanks one again. I know you helped me the last to. I do have the Deja Vu font set in my folder. I downloaded and the last time. So I don't know if there is supposed to be more or not, but those were installed with Windows-XP after my reformat.
This is really driving me nuts. as I've done several re-formats on my computer and several friends computers and even upgraded hardware so I am not necessarily a software or programming expert, I am somewhat advanced when it comes to computers in general and can usually diagnose the problem but these font's are the problem and they never were before.
I did see in another forum that if you had a Dell Computer and did the Microsoft update for the onboard video card driver that it could be the culprit, but I have that disabled being I have a much better graphics card so the updates from Microsoft for the onboard video weren't installed.
It' a Dell Dimension 3000 with an Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller so I don't believe it is the culprit being it is disabled. The actual video card that I am using is a PCI Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT with 1 GB Memory. And I didn't have any problem before.
I appreciate the help. But still can't get things to work. Live Help Chat doesn't open for another two hours so maybe they can do "Remote Access" or something and can check setting and help me. But if you come up with other suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again.

  • My iphone 3gs is really messed up

soooo My iphone 3gs is really messed up. i havnt been able to use it because it was reset and says "insert a valid sim card with no pin lock to activate iphone" i also dont have a sim card tray, and im getting the sim card tray sometime this week. the other prob is that it freezes. ALOT. i simply press the home button to turn it on and it freezes, so i have to let the battery drain, and i plug it back up, and it will slide open to the emergency calls screen, and sometimes itll freeze and i have to restart the whole process over. Also, itunes wont recognize (when its froze) and sometimes says "itunes cannnot connect to iphone because" either a invalid response was recieved, or an error occured (OxE8000084) and as we speak, its been on the apple logo "booting" up for about 5 minutes. i really need some help. also, the top power button doesnt work, so cant turn it off or put into DFU.

Get a SIM from your carrier, insert it and then restore the device as new, i.e. without a backup.  That's the best you can do.  If it still doesn't work, I wouldn't waste anymore time/money on it.
For the error, see this... http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3221.  Also, Google the error for more info.

  • I dropped my ipod in the toilet, I haven't fixed it for months. I didn't know you could put it in rice, or to not open it right away. Is it too late to fix it, or a place? The ipod is really important to me, it has been with me forever.

I dropped my ipod in the toilet, I haven't fixed it for months. I didn't know you could put it in rice, or to not open it right away. Is it too late to fix it, or is there a place I could bring it to? I don't want to get a new one. The ipod is really important to me, it has been with me forever, and there is important stuff on it.

There are companies that specialize in data retrieval but it's costly (probably cheaper to buy a new iPod) and more than likely as Allan said, your circuits are probably damaged beyond all hope of retrieving anything. It's worth calling Apple you maybe able to get a discount or a refurbished iPod. Can't hurt to ask, Good luck. (And in the future... no texting in the john.) Sorry, couldn't resist it.

No since you can only sync with one computer.
