U2515H Randomly goes black
I purchased this monitor about 4 weeks ago.
The screen goes black only for a 1-2 seconds and then back to normal. This happens randomly.
I am pretty sure I can rule out the GPU since my previous monitor 2412HM was running with it and it didnt go randomly black.
I was running Windows 10 and initially thought maybe this was due to beta software. However I have been running Windows 7 now for a few days and problem remains.
I am using Display Port, the GPU is a EVGA Nvidia GTX 770.
Count me as someone who is also seeing this problem. I have a NVIDIA GTX 780 (Zotac 3Gb) connected from GTX Displayport to mDP on the monitor. I've used the USB 3.0 hub for various devices including iPhone6 and a USB hard drive.
My system is a dual boot Hackintosh into Yosemite 10.10.2 and Windows 8.1, I don't see this problem the Hackintosh side but do on Windows 8.1 I believe. I've uninstalled all of the NVIDIA drivers and rebooted, reinstalled and still see this problem.
I am using the Dell Display Manager and that doesn't fix it, no virtual desktops setup. I will uninstall that tonight so see if it fixes it plus removing the USB 3.0 cable.
I've used two DP -> mDP cables and the problem occurs on both cables so its not that. I'm running 2560 x 1440 resolution.
The weird thing is that sometimes, just sometimes, the screen is fine, no blanking. Then reboot and it reoccurs. If it was overheating in the video card, then I'd understand or heat/power issues, but it occurs on cold reboot and no load on the card. So its a screen, sync or power issue I believe.
Help!

My 13 in MacBook Pro screen randomly goes black. It was purchased in 2010. It's a 10.6.8. It started just recently. The only thing I can think of is is that my 7 year old son played an online game with the computer. I did check the "hot corners" settings and that is not the issue. When the screen goes black, I generally end of foce shutting it down with the power button.

My computer has just been back to Apple for extensive warranty work. It now randomly goes black. It's like it's in some inbetween sleep/running mode. I can hear the hard-drive spinning if I put my ear on it, but it is totally non responsive. I don't think it's just a display issue, since if I try to hit the power button and press return (which should normally shut the machine down), nothing happens. The only thing that seems to work it a hard reboot. It then functions for anywhere from 2 minutes to 10 hours (most commonly <1 hr). Could this in any way be a software issue or do I have to send it back to Apple (for the 3rd time!)?
Thanks for any help you can give.<br>

Brand new Macbook Pro 15"inch laptop screen randomly going black
My laptop screen randomly going black during the use of computer, but the cursor is active and it moves with the track-pad. I bought this macbook pro 15"Inch laptop just 3 weeks ago. Did anyone come across this issue? Is there any alternative for this issue?
Hello Clinton
Thank you for your prompt response. I took an appointment with Genius Bar. Yes, this is a brand new laptop purchased it online through Apple website and received it on May 29th. I started noticing this issue from last week and it is happening at least 4 to 5 times in a day.
If this is really a hardware problem, is there any chance for laptop replacement or what will they do?
Regards!

Phone Randomly Goes Black in iOS7.0.2
Ever since installing the update to 7.0.2, my phone randomly locks up then goes black and unresponsive for a time, no matter what I do to try to restart. After a few minute the phone restarts. The kicker is I though the update to iOS7.0.2 was supposed to decrease bugs, not create ones that didn't happen before!
Hello Raymond Swanson,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I have a couple of things to recommend here. First, reset your iPhone with this article and see how it works for a little bit:
Resetting your device
If your device stops responding, you can reset it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
From: iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists after that, I would backup your phone to iTunes and then restore it from your backup.
iOS: How to back up and restore your content

All the very best,

U3415W, randomly goes black for like 2 seconds?
Just got this monitor and I'm having the exact same issue. Goes black for like 2 seconds randomly. It's differently on the monitor side of things, as I have another monitor connect through DP(daisy chain) and the same issue happens on that monitor as well. Both random, but sometimes at the same time with each. My third monitor which is connected through DVI has zero issues. I have tried the Dell without anything else connect, but getting the same issues.
Any ideas?I am indeed, just a single mDP to DP was supplied. The issue was there with just that cable and the Dell monitor connected.
I have since turned off DP 1.2 on the monitor and the issue has gone away. Problem is that my graphics card supports DP 1.2, so that shouldn't have been causing any issues. (Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-X)
Dell support were support to contact be back again today so I can update them, but never got a call. -
Hi,
I have a probalem that happens every once in a while. (Maybe happens once every other day.) It seems when I am running on battery it happens more then not. Although it has happened while plugged into the wall.
The screen simply goes black and the computer does not respond at all. By that, I mean holding the power button down doesn't do anything to hard reset it. The only way I have been able to reset it and start it back up is by removing the battery then replacing it and starting back up normally.
When it happends on battery power I always watch the batt. indicator and make sure it has plenty of power, so its not going black casue of that.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Thanks
iBook G4 14" 1.33Ghz (Late 2004) Mac OS X (10.4)My guess is the dreaded Video Card/Logic board failure, which is soo famos with these iBooks.

Is there a problem with my graphics card, my screen randomly goes black?
Hi all,
I've been noticing that my laptop screen randomly blacks out though the device still appears to be on. I end up doing a full shut down by pressing the power button for 5 seconds and restart thereafter. Although this has happened at various times, it most recently has been occurring while using Google Chrome. Right before the screen blacks, I tend to see a prompt in the upper right hand corner of the screen that says something like "Intel HD Graphics now in use" or something about gfxCardStatus. Obviously for now I've been limiting the use of Google Chrome, but I'd still like to know if there is a substantial problem here. I'm using a Macbookpro 15in OSX version 10.7.4, i5 intel core processor. After restarting, this is the error message that I receive and report to apple:

Can someone please help? This is also my first time posting so forgive me if I have not provided customary information.
Thanks!Looks like a failed graphics GPU. Run Apple's Hardware Test in extended mode 2-3 times back to back. If errors appear that confirms a hardware problem. The reason for running the test 2-3 times back to back is AHT does not always find errors on the first or second pass, however when it does find them it is correct.

every now and then my screen will become black. sometimes i cans till sorta see the image that had been on the screen. if i close the screen down and wait for the little white blinking light to come on that indicates it is sleeping and then reopen it is normal again.
any ideas?
~ michelleYou can adjust the settings that regulate this in System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Sleep->
Where it says "Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:" you can choose increase or decrease the time interval before the screen will turn black. -
Facetime randomly goes black and then exits.... hangs up on call backs

any help would be greatYour describing what is likely a monitor issue, the GPU on the logic board usually wont manifest such symptoms. However there still can be a power fault on the logic board to the monitor

I have a 30in cinema display attached to my iMac and the iMac screen randomly goes black while the cinema stays active. I can put it to sleep and log back in which fixes it, but often it happens again immediately after. Sometimes it happens so quickly I can't even finishing logging in! I'd like to know if this is a Mavericks issue and I will roll my machine back. Thank you!

Wanted to update you on my situation with this.
So far 8 hours have gone by and I have not had a screen blackout.
FIRST I did the Hardware Test. TWICE on the extended test, the instructions on the KB Article explain. It took almost 3 hours, but while the test was running, both times, my computer screen did not go black.
I did get an error message, both times. Different each time. I looked up both of the error messages on discussion boards. Lots of conflicting info
One good thread said my first error was that my hard drive was bad and would probably fail.
The next error message I researched said that a fan was bad or needed replacement.
(information comes from other folks on discussion boards, not from Apple or technician)
Not sure what exactly those 2 error messages indicate but I followed a thread where someone found a solution by doing the following. So far it's worked.
After Hardware Test I did a shutdown and an SMC resest. Unplugged computer power source from wall and computer for about 10 minutes.
Finally after a restart I downloaded "SMC Fan Control" (CNET Downloads has a nice safe copy you can download)
There is a temperature monitor and from what I've read so far, keeping the CPU temperature under 50˚C is ideal. Making sure your fans and computer is in a well ventilated area/room too of course.
The SMC Fan Control helps you set your own speeds on the fans and so far everything has been going normal. -
Screen just randomly goes black... If I press the "reduce brightness" key on they keyboard to the equivalent of turning it completely off and turn it back on I can get up to 10 mins of screen working.
I still have no Idea what can this be, and I cant find any answers online.
Any ideas?
I've restarted, reseted PRAM, removed battery, plugged and unplugged a lot of things... I'm lost and out of warranty =/I have the same problem.
I don't think is hardware related, since I've seen several posts of people with the same issue in the last weeks.
Probably it started after updating 10.6.4, I don't know for sure. That update includes this: "resolves a display sleep issue with MacBook Pro (Early 2010) computers" (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4150). Maybe that had an effect for older Macbook users, I don't know.
I tried to reset the SMC, but it didn't work.
I also try to delete the "com.apple.windowserver.plist" preferences (as specify on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573), and it seemed to work for a couple of hours, but then the problem returned.
Another that thing that fix it temporary as the "reduce brightness" was to set one of the corners to "display sleep".
I hope this is a software issue and that Apple fixes it soon. It's so annoying.

Hi everyone.
I have a very strange issue on 2 different PCs.
From time to time the screen goes completly black, and I have to wait about 2-3 seconds for it to restore the picture.
Both have NVIDIA video card, one PC has GF8900GT the second GF7200.
Both PCs running GNOME
In both PCs the screen is connected via DVI port.
One PC has Arch installed for about 4 months the second has a 3 days old installation.
I also have a laptop with Arch (about 4 months) but I didn't expirience any issues there.
I'm not sure what the problem is, but it really annoys me.
I'll be very gratefull if someone points me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.Hello dhruid,

Hi,
my macbook screen goes black at random points when I am using it. I know it is still running as music continues to play and I can vaguely make out the content of what is on the screen. Sometimes the screen will flicker between black and normal. Can I fix this?Emily..
Could be the graphics card, run the Apple Hardware Test
If the hardware test doesn't reveal any problems, use Lion Recovery.
