U310 encrypted w/ PGP WDE can't get to BIOS or boot menu

The Lenovo U310 Touch was encrypted using PGP Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2. Everything seemed to work fine until I used a windows 7 repair CD to restore an older system image back to this drive.
Now when the ideapad starts up, I still get a symentec encryption username and passphrase screen. When enter in the username and passphrase, I get past it but I see Windows Boot Manager, Windows failed to start. Statux 0xc000000f and then anything that I do, I get thrown back to the PGP screen, and this error screen.
If I use Fn+f12, or Fn+f2, or Fn+f11, I again and thrown back to the PGP screen.
If I shut the system off, and start it with the novo button, I see a menu that says Normal startup, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery. All 4 options return me back to the PGP Encryption screen, and then back to Windows Failed to start.
How can I get to the BIOS, or sys recovery, or even boot from external CD drive so I can get a clean build of an OS?

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll llll, the thing was booting so fast I never caught the real problem.  (Almost ashamed, since I used to do this in a former life 20 years ago).  The keyboard was DOA.
I finally caught it when I quit looking at the screen trying to syncronize hitting keys.  No lights flashed on the keyboard.
Since I don't have spare anything here, I took it down to my friends office, plugged into his old (WIN  98!!) machine and got a "bad or missing keyboard" at boot.  Off to Wally World for a terrible, cheap HP KB that got it going.
Once I got everything going, I now have a new issue (hijack my own thread).  BSOD with two different errors.
Thanks to all.  It was one of those "until 4 A.M." things for me.

  • Can't get into BIOS mode

** i also put this question in O.P. topic, because i think that was the wrong one**
    1. Type of computer - HP ENVY dv7-7250nr
    2. opporating system- windows 8 64bit
I recently got this computer. It's amazing the only thing that could use a change is the keyboard. I got this as a gaming PC but the function keys can only be accesed when pressing FN. In most computer games the f# keys are your shortcuts. When i go to press mine i have windows changed and the control panal pops up.
So i was looking around and they say you can go into BIOS mode and turn off the hotkeys. Only issue is i can't get into BIOS mode.
I would really appreciate some help on this, i don't want to go out and key a whole-nother keyboard.
    Thank you in advance.

    Princess.
Turn on the laptop then tap f10.
That should get you into the BIOS.

  • Can't get a Google Site navigation menu to display on Safari

I can't get my Google Site navigation menu to display on Safari (iPad or iPhone)? Navigation menu is off the page...tapping the screen opens the sidebar but then it instantly closes automatically.
I looked in Google Sites Admin for a mobile device compatibility setting, but didn't find one. Also looked in my Safari settings on my own iPhone/iPad devices and nothing I do allows the Google Site navigation to work. This makes my Google Site unusable by iPad and iPhone users.
    Help...?

Are you using Safari? Have you tried an alternative browser - Chrome, Firefox?
Edit: What's the website - maybe it's down.

  • HELP I can't get macbook air to boot!!

Help!! I am traveling around the world right now and I can't get my MBA to boot up.  I shut it down by selecting shut down, after closing all windows.  A few hours later went to turn it on and nothing!  I am so frustrated! When I press the start button I get the chime, but the screen doesn't light up.   I can feel something whirring, and the logo on the back lights up but that is it.  I have tried repeatedly starting it and turning it off, nothing. Have tried holding the alt button and the start button at the same time, nothing.
I am getting on a plane in the morning and going to Nicaragua so I can't call Apple nor can I go to a service center.  Right now it is 7:45 PM in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the computer service centers are closed.
I purchased the MBA in January of 2014 so it is less than 1 year old.  I purchased extended warranty recently.  I have the latest OS system installed, I have no USB sticks to start from.  All I have is the MBA.  Slapping it doesn't help Neither does yelling at it .  Any suggestions as to what I can do? This is the first time this has happened. I haven't dropped the computer.
    Thanks so much!

The easiest thing to do is to reset the SMC:
Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset. Read all the steps.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. The power adapter indicator light may cycle off / on once.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Z68A-GD55 can't get into BIOS anymore

Just built new Z68 computer gradually over 3 days. Then loaded applications and everything worked great for 2 days. Decided it was done and time to change boot priority in BIOS. Couldn’t get into BIOS. Got splash screen but no further.
Found forum message recommending CMOS reset. Tried button, jumper, remove battery methods. Still can’t get into BIOS. Get BIOS Prompt ("...press DELETE"), but nothing after that except flashing cursor top left of screen. Back to barebones; same result.  Screen messages before BIOS prompt: 98, 99, A3. Will not boot MS DOS (Win98 version) from USB drive (would before). I’d appreciate any suggestions. Thx.
    Key build steps:
    • Ran Memtest  barebones 48 hrs.
    • Added SSD (ACHI) and Installed Windows 7 Pro. SSD was new.
    • Added, formatted HDD
    • Enabled multi-monitor in BIOS; added Radeon HD6870; 2 monitors on Radeon, none on internal; installed Radeon drivers.
    • Enabled Virtu in BIOS, d-mode; Installed Virtu
    Not overclocked.

After replacing the PSU with a Corsair TX650M (650w, 3.3v30A, 5v30A, 12V54A), the barebones config could access the BIOS. Installed everything except boot SSD; still OK.
Before letting the computer boot back into Win7, I connected two old 19" LCD monitors (Microtek C997SD). For setup and testing, I had been using a  24" widescreen. But Win7 had never seen anything but the Microteks, which I intend to use with this computer. Tried to enter BIOS to verify settings were still correct for SSD. Got splash screen -- regular BIOS background, but no Icons (Green Power, Utilities, Overclocking, etc.). Computer locks: PS/2 keyboard (incl. Ctrl-Alt-Del) and USB mouse, do nothing.
Connected widescreen, verified BIOS OK. Shut down and reconnected Microteks, attempted boot into Win7, and all was OK. I just can't use a Microtek to access BIOS.
I hope MSI recognizes how valuable the volunteers here are. Your advice solved the problem at least a couple of days earlier than I would have done on my own. Thank you.

Please verify that the programs (Ubuntu, Mint, Boot-Repair, etc.) you are attempting to use, support the Atheros AR8161L gigabit ethernet controller natively. Not all operating systems and software programs support every network device and/or configuration otut of the box. Many times, specific drivers must be loaded or injected into the OS for a device to function properly.

  • I can't get to BIOS if internal HD is plugged in

    W520 running BIOS version 1.35
If I remove the hard drive, I can get into the BIOS just fine (I am talking about the internal HD, Intel 320).   I wanted to change the boot order.  However it makes no difference once I reconnect the hard drive, it wants the hard drive password first, won't let me boot from anything else or get to the BIOS, and I've either forgotten it (honestly I never had it set to my knowledge, only had a Supervisor password, but now I am getting prompted for a HD password after Windows froze and I had to force shut down while plugged into Ethernet cable;  I think some Wake On LAN settings caused a BIOS bug to occur or something because it changed my boot order and tried to PXE boot... can't understand it, no PXE environment on my LAN, it's just a regular router).
It seems like the BIOS is actually stored on the hard drive? (And since when is BIOS stored on hard drive?!?)  Is there any way I can actually get into the BIOS with my hard drive connected?  What is going on here?
I'm trying to boot from USB so I can run a disk utility and check the SMART status on the Intel 320 SSD.   I believe I'm deal with a BIOS bug even though Lenovo refuses to acknowledge or look into it.  All I can think to try is make sure the disk is not faulty.
I've also tried flashing the BIOS but it seems to make no difference... if the hard disk is connected it won't boot from any other media, and if the hard disk isn't connected, it doesn't seem to actually flash the BIOS as the version never changes from 1.35.
    Solved!

The drive pw is needed at power up, whether you boot into the bios or an os. It is not needed on a restart, assuming it was entered at power up.

  • How can i get my Powerpc to boot from a PCIe drive

Hi, I just upgraded my PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5 with 16GB of ram & two 1.8 tyrabite drives. My problem is, I also installed a Velocity solo x2 PCIe card
for a solid state drive. the system recogizes the drive but I'm having a problem with getting my system to boot from that PCIe card drive. Please if anyone
can help me I greatly appreciate it.

If you cannot get the ssd to boot, you can move folders to the ssd.
Unix command ln  -- The Unix make link command. I have a copy of virtual PC.  It insists on using a folder in my documents folder for saving all of the virtual machine information.  This folder is rather large.  I used the terminal command ln to move the folder to my external hard drive.  Virtual PC had no problem with this move.  I do not think that Mac applications notice the ln redirects.
You can use the Unix command ln to redirect a reference to folder on your small partition to a folder on  your larger partition. You need to be careful when you pick the folder. You best avoid any system folder, those folders needed at startup. You could pick some user data folder.   Home folders, that is folders in /Users, are a good choice.  Please try this when you have a full backup.
mac harddrive > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    man ln
    ln -s target source
    example:
let's make like my Christmas card folder is on my desktop and make like the names is cards.
    mac $ ls /Volumes
    GREEN/          Macintosh-HD@
    mac $ ls /Volumes/GREEN/Christmas\ Cards/

  • Where can I get the source for boot of netinstall CD

Sorry for the title, I wasn't able to write it out fully due to length constraints.
So in an attempt to fix https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=139659 on my own, I thought I'd go and look at what the install CD does as it is booting up the version of Linux found on the netinstall CD.  It first creates a Linux environment where you can then run AIF.  I mounted and looked through the .iso of the installer that I used, but I couldn't find any useful config files for the boot process, so I'm thinking that it is in a binary form. I found the AIF source code, but that is for after the system boots up from the CD, and my problem happens before then.
So where can I get the source code for the live CD portions that *aren't* AIF?

It's a hybrid ISO, with a filesystem and a MBR slapped onto it which you can either write to a CD or "dd" to a HDD or USB stick.
The bootloader is called ISOLINUX (which is part of the Syslinux project). You can find the "boot" files in the "isolinux" folder. For studying ISOLINUX itself, you have to shimmy on over to the Syslinux website. It's an awesome project. I ditched GRUB 2 for it and now use it as my primary bootloader. Much, much easier to work with.

  • I can't get to my user setting menu on my Motorola HD DVR QIP 7216

I am trying to access this menu to fix an HDMI audio drop out issue and I keep trying the 'Power, Menu, Select' that is given in this post but I can't get it.  Our STB and TV both go through a Samsung BlueRay/Home Theater.  I got this menu up once before and this time I just keep turing the TV on and off and am getting the Fios menu.  Any help?

Sequence is wrong.  It's POWER, SELECT, MENU.

  • I can't get my mac to boot off the install discs

I'm trying to boot off of the install disc, but I can't get the computer to even see it. I've tried the c, d and options keys. I've repaired permissions. I don't seem to have a firmware password. When I hold down d it tests and finds no problems with the hardware. When I hold down c it goes straight to the hard drive. When I hold down the option key during restart the only option it gives me is the hard drive - no disc. I've tried two different keyboards, one of which is a mac. I'm using disc 1 of the two disc set to install mac os x that came with the computer when I bought it. I've also tried disc 2 (since I've been trying everything I can think of.)
I'm out of ideas. Help appreciated.

If you were able to boot from the d key to the Hardware Test (for a G5, this should have been from the second disc -- but you don't mention how you got to the AHT) that rules out a bad optical drive or firmware password. The only thing, then, that comes to mind is a damaged install disc, disc one.

  • How can I get info. about "shortcut menu"

I can get the menuitem title just like below
      call MenuItemInfoGet("SCRIPT", "M.1")
      MsgBoxDisp(MenuItemTitle)
but for the shortcut menu , I can't get the menu tiltle like, use"c" instead of "m":
      call MenuItemInfoGet("SCRIPT", "C.1")
      MsgBoxDisp(MenuItemTitle)
    Why?

    Hi Chian,
MenuItemInfoGet is not supported for shortcut menus because this kind of
menu is dynamic. That means, depending on the context or customizing a shortcut
menu can have more or less entries. So it could happen that you get back
information's which you are not expecting (in case of supporting shortcuts with
    MenuItemInfoGet).

Try the "Option" key immediately after the bong at restart. That should give you a choice of all bootable drives, including the CD assuming you have a boot disc in the drive.

  • Can't get into BIOS on K7N2G-ILSR 6570G

Yesterday I tried to get into the BIOS like I always had done, by pressing delete on start up.  I tried numerous times, and for some reason, no luck.  I then posted on techguy.org.  Someone told me to get a BIOS flush utility from the MB manufact.  I went to the website but couldn't find anything that looked like that.  Can someone tell me what to look for, and why this may have happened in the first place.

I have spent the last 2 hrs with this computer.  I finally tried a different keyboard after I had cleared CMOS and then it wouldn't let me press either del or F1.  I was stuck, so changed keyboards and now everything is fine.  I also managed to clean all the components and dust it out good while in there.  Thanks for your help.  I'm back in business!!

  • MSI 870-G45 - Can't get into BIOS

So, just built myself a new pc.
It posts, and I have some output on the screen upon boot up, like I see that its detecting my sata hd/dvd drive and everything. Like the topic name says, I can't get into the BIOS.  When it posts, its detecting my keyboard and everything, but it simply hangs at the post screen and I cannot get into the BIOS at all for whatever reason that is beyond me.  I've tried 2 keyboards, one ps/2 and a usb keyboard, nothing on either (the usb is one I went to wal-mart and got today as I guessed the ps/2 wasn't working correctly or whatever).
Tried clearing CMOS (taking out the battery, resetting the jumper and everything).  Still got nothing.
Heres a link to a pic of what output I do have. http://img858.imageshack.us/i/img20110313152042.jpg/ (sorry, don't know how to embed pics into a forum board, not that familiar)

I mean, I'm using a usb keyboard.  Should I try a PS/2?  I mean I've tried clearing the CMOS a handful of times to no avail, nothing.  It just simply hangs at that screen and says CMOS settings are wrong.
I thought you said you'd already tried a PS/2 keyboard and it still hangs?
