U330 Touch - SSD Question

Hi, I recently bought a U330 Touch i7. I hadn't realized that it shipped with a HDD/SSD combination drive. When I booted it up I found the main OS installed on the HDD along with a load of other applications, then on the SSD drive was only McAfee and a load of drivers. The HDD is 500GB (or near enough) and the SSD 25GB. The unit is ST500LM000-1EJ162. THe SSD appears as a separate driver in file explorer but seems to be a partition of the main HDD in disk utility.
I have a couple of questions that I can't seem to find answers to by looking around on the site:
1. Should I just install the applications I am most likely to use straight onto the SSD - so MS Office, Chrome, Unity and a couple of steam games - assuming the benefit on having them on the SSD is going to be worth it.
2. I was told by someone it might be a hybrid drive and the migration of software from the HDD to SSD would be handled by some software. Is it a hybrid drive?
3. Can I actually reinstall the OS directly on the SSD and would the benefit be worth the hassle of the reinstall?
4. If I do re-install can I get the installation files for the OS and associated software that shipped with the machine from Lenovo direct?
Sorry for so many questions, but its my first SSD and there seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there.

You don't want to use the WD as the recovery drive, you want to use a flash drive. Recovery and the factory load should fit on a 16 Gb flash drive. This will be used to refresh or repair the OS if you ever have the problem of not being able to boot.
The WD should be used to backup your current configuration since it will be so large. As you do Windows updates and install more programs and save more files, this backup should be replaced on the WD on a regular basis.
The recovery flash drive will only be used to boot and install the original OS that your machine came with, or to repair or refresh the OS. Then you will use the backup from the WD to put the current OS back on.
Once you make the flash drive, I would test it to make sure it boots and goes into the recovery environment.
Again, the WD will only be used for backing up your current configuration and should be updated regularly.
I've never tried to use an external hard drive as a recovery drive, it might or might not work. The instructions are pretty specific so I doubt that it will

Ich hätte eine Frage zum Aufrüsten meines Ideapad U330 Touch i3. Es ist eine HDD verbaut. Ich würde gerne eine SSD einbauen, und die HDD komplett darauf klonen, so dass auch Systemfuntionen wie "One Key Recovery" darauf funktionieren. Ist dies grundsätzlich möglich, sind alle im Handel verfügbaren SSDs geeignet, oder gibt es eine White List? Beim Umbau würde ich gerne wissen, ob die original verbaute kleine SSD als Cache in die HDD integriert ist oder ob diese extra entfernt werden muss? Muss im Bios weiteres außer dem AHCI Modus eingestellt werden?

wie die HDD entfernt werden kann steht im HMM u330p_touch_hmm.pdf
Es ist wahrscheinlich eine HDD Hybrid Festplatte also wo eine SSD als Cache integriert ist.
Also braucht nur die HDD ausgebaut werden. Jede 2,5" Sata SSD passt die sind mittlerweile alle 7mm hoch.. und passen trotzdem in ein Notebook mit nur 5mm hoher HDD , wie z.B. in meinem Yoga 2 ..
Zum Thema klonen ... damit das OKR hinterher auch funktioniert sollten die Partionen die gleiche Grösse wie auf der HDD haben... also die kleinen Partitionen vorne ... und der Teil wo sich der OKR Teil befindet...meist ganz hinten ..versteckt... auf keinen Fall automatisch anpassen lassen, sonst findet OKR hinterher keine Recovery mehr...
Wie ich das meine kannst Du hier in dem Artikel entnehmen ...Du brauchst aber nur den Teil wo es um das eigentliche klonen und Partitionen geht dir anzuschauen...

U330 touch windows 7 downgrade cache ssd

Hi, ordered a u330 touch and it comes preloaded with win 8, need to install win 7 64bit.
Read a few posts here and other sites that they are having issues setting up the cache Ssd through the Intel rapid storage software (accelerate tab missing)
It requires raid to be enabled on the BIOS does the u330 support raid?
Has anyone managed to get the cache sad working on win 7 ?

Upon checking the specs, the caching method used by the U330 Touch is Expresscache. To test if Expresscache s working, open a command prompt and type eccmd -info. It should return a result like this:

The Expresscache feature is a proprietary software that's preloaded on the machine so there's no guarantee that it will work on another version of Windows. However, you may try to follow this guide on how to re-install it.
As for the caching software via the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (acceleration tab), this will not work as it requires RAID to be enabled in the BIOS (which the system doesn't have).

Disable RAID U330 Touch

I have just bought myself a U330 Touch with the intention of installing Debian on it, in common with all my other computers.
My intention was to install on the 16GB SSD that is paired with the 500GB disk. 16GB is plenty big enough for linux.
My question is how do I disable the RAID on the SSD so that I can partition the system? There doesn't appear to be any option in the BIOS setup. I have a Debian Live running and that cannot see the SSD.

I’m sorry to inform you that the partitions cannot be created unless and until UEFI setting in the BIOS is not disabled, restart the computer and press “F2” to enter BIOS and then in “Boot” windows disable UEFI to and new OS (Operating System) can be installed, however it is not recommended to create partitions as it may affect the “Hidden Recovery Partition” preset in the computer and the OKR (One Key Recovery) button will not work as expected.

U330 Touch - Manufacturer number?

I've got a little question about the different U330 Touch versions,
I'm looking for the
grey
i5 4200u
128gb ssd
win 8.1 preinstalled
version of the U330 Touch
So I figured out that 59405810 is the orange version of the one I'm looking for, what is the number of that version in grey?
Until now I found:
59393202 grey version with win 8.0
59405811 grey version with win 8.1 but only i3 and hybrid hdd
I also figured out that
5939xxxx are versions with 8.0
and
5937xxxx are the older versions with hybrid hdd

das Ideapad U330 Touch meiner Freundin fiept. Man hört es nicht allzu laut, aber natürlich, wenn man alleine im Raum ist. Woran könnte das liegen, was ist zu tun? Lüfter läuft nicht, und es ist eine SSD verbaut. Auch das Netzteil ist nicht angeschlossen.

Deine Beschreibung des hochfrequenten Pfeifftons weist auf folgende möglich Komponenten hin:
- Lüfter
- Festplatte/SSD
- Netzteil
- Grafikkarte oder Mainboard hin.
Du kannst also nur ein Ausschlußverfahren durchführen oder direkt unseren technischen Support kontaktieren.

Does the new u330 touch have aq backlit keyboard? it says in the featurs you can selected a model with a backlit keyboard, but i cant find the option to select it when customising the product. please help

Spilt coffee U330 Touch

Hey there!
I had a cup of coffee standing beside my one-month-old Lenovo U330 Touch. By accident the said coffee got spilled all over the computer. Over the whole keyboard, including the touchpad (I think). I immediately pluged it out, turned it off and turn it upside down while drying it with a towel.
Atfer an hour or so, I tried to start it up to see if it worked, and it did. I tried out some keypresses and everything worked no problem, but just as I was turning it off, the mouse go inverted and then the screen got flipped to one side. I powered it off with the power button and left it in the bathroom with heated floor (again upside down with some toilet paper and a newspaper between the screen and keyboard.
Later again I turned it on and again it started normally, but now the caps lock light was on. The touchpad worked normally again and the screen was the right way, but the keyboard is all messed up. Most of the keys work, but feel sticky, while some are doing different commands and multiplekeystrokes (the g is doing Ctrl+F, the F is F' ++).
I have seen many posts on this forum regarding spilling of things but none on U330. Is there anything I can/should do?
And another thing - the touch pad feels kind of loose - it's making a slapping sound when tapping and I feel that the fan can be quite noisy. The panel around the touchscreen (lower left side is also making a clicking noise when I open the computer. Is this normal? I know that they are not a result of the coffee spill.

Open the laptop up, get a replacement keyboard and also make sure any sign of coffee inside the laptop you want to clean up.

I have tried this a few months ago. You can study the steps and try it on your unit.

U330 touch screen randomly not working

My laptop is U330 touch. Recently, I found that my touch screen function randomly works. When I start my computer, it works but when I put my computer asid, after the turning off of display, the touch screen cannot work. And then I turn the computer off or turn to sleep and restart, the touch screen works again. Is that there any setting goes wrong? Can anyone teach me how to solve this problem?

Do you have a screen protector applied in which case try peeling it back?

U330 touch wifi

Hello,
My new U330 touch laptop has some issues with wifi.
Sometimes it's fast and sometimes it's really slow.
Also when I try to download somthing, it's really slow.
My older laptop (3years), an HP has faster wifi than this new laptop.
I am really worried.. what's the problem?

Just a quick note regarding the wireless issue with U330 touch, I purchased this laptop seven months ago, all was well until suddenly my internet connection started to drop and I lost connectivity for no apparent reason. I read all the posts on this subject and tried all sorts of configurations, sadely nothing worked. I took the advice from another post and upgraded my Intel N720 wireless card directly from Intel's website. The upgrade went smoothly but nothing again worked until I rebooted the router itself. To my surprise, the card picked up the signal and connected to the router. I now have full internet access. Try not to download this driver from Lenovo support, they seem to have stopped providing updated drivers or even recognising the issue with their laptop. Instead go to the follwoing link and download the latest driver from Intel.

ich weiß, dass der Thread eigentlich für die Modelle U310 und U410 eröffnet wurde. Da seit einiger Zeit aber auch die Nachfolgemodelle Ideapad U330 und Ideapad U430 im Handel sind wollte ich mich einmal erkundigen, ob es denn Besitzer gibt, die auch mit gebrochenen Display-Scharnieren zu kämpfen haben?
Ich bin leider ein solcher Besitzer und streite mich seit einigen Wochen mit allen Instanzen bzgl. einer Reparatur auf Garantie. Mein Lenovo Ideapd U330 Touch war als der Fehler auftrat nicht ganz ein Jahr in Betrieb und hatte keine einzige Schramme. Bestellt wurde es bei Otto, doch die reparieren nicht selber und ich wurde an Lenovo verwiesen. Auch Lenovo repariert nicht selber, sondern nach einem kostenpflichtigen Telefonat mit der Lenovo-Hotline hat man mir versichert, das Gerät werde da noch Garantie besteht repariert. Ich sollte dieses einfach an Medion schicken, da Medion die Reparaturen für Lenovo übernimmt. Medion übernimmt aber nicht nur die Reparaturen, sondern urteilt auch ohne jedwede Information zum Fall über das mein vermeintlich eigenes Verschulden.
Mein Fazit nach dem Einschicken gleicht dem aller anderen Schreiber dieses Threads: Medion wirft mir Eigenverschulden vor und verlangt über 100 Euro für die Reparatur eines Gerätes, das nicht einmal ein Jahr alt ist.
Auf den Einspruch, den ich gegen diesen Kostenvoranschlag (KVA) eingereicht habe, hat sich bisher noch niemand gemeldet.
Vielmehr habe ich erst den Fehler gemacht für 1,29 Euro die Minute dort anzurufen, wo ein netter aber langsamer Mann erst einmal in aller Ruhe meine Daten abgleichen musste. Daraufhin hat er mir angeboten meinen Einspruch an das KVA-Team weiterzuleiten. Ok, ich dachte für 1,29 Euro die Minute bin ich direkt beim KVA-Team und kann mit jemandem sprechen, der zuständig und weisungsbefugt ist. Falsch gedacht...die weitere Aufnahme meines Einspruchs habe ich mir dann gespart und einen schönen Tag gewunschen. Eine E-Mail an das KVA-Team, kann ich ja auch selber schreiben. Also auf keinen Fall dort anrufen!

IPod Touch newbie questions - pt. III

Last questions:
1) I downloaded a few apps from the Apps Store and noticed that a few would not load. They kept cycling and cycling and never completed. I then realized that I had to connect to a Wi FI network, which I am lucky enough to have at home: Verizon FIOS.
Could Apple consider marking any Applications for download, free or for sale, that requires a WiFi connection to the web as such? This is very user unfriendly and should be info that we have up front. There may be some people who don't have such WiFi connections at hand depending on where they live and if they download one of the fee based apps and find out they need an internet connection to work it, they will be royally ticked off.
2) The Progression "scrubber bar" - could this be linked to the playback controls in a future firmware update? On my Classic the info was always viewable and one did not have to enable it. I feel it should show automatically and be disabled as an extra step.
By the way, what do they mean by "scrubber?" Nothing is cleaned or erased in my estimation. This is needlessly confusing. Must be a slang term I'm unfamiliar with.
3) Lastly, not sure about this but is there a way to download lyrics for songs into iTunes/iPod? If so I guess I've missed this somewhere. If not it would be a great extra to have on the player, particularly, for jogging one's memory or clarifying words to a new song that some singer mangles badly.
** I would just to to reaffirm that I may seem a little picky in my posts here but considering the complexity and variety of functions this machine can handle, the beauty of design and interaction with the user and other factors, Apple has done a great job developing this PDA/music player/etc. I only wanted to clear up some issues and maybe submit possible improvements for the future.

1. I kind see your point and it would not be difficult to implement but generally you can tell how an app works and what it will require from the description. I do know some Apps have virtually no description with them which is unforgivable but then I probably wouild not spend money on them in the first place.
2. "Scrub Bar" industry standard term for that particular item, just because it does not erase as in your sense of the word "scrub" does not mean it is wrong. To any Video/Audio tape editors it makes perfect sense.
I don't think having to touch the screen to summon it is that big a deal.
3. To view lyrics on the Touch they need to be added to the track in iTunes.
Right click > get info > lyrics, then cut and paste into the box.
I fear you may well become irritated once more as to see them you will have to summon the "scrub bar" while the track is playing...

DVD Rom, RAM, and SSD question(s)

I purchased a nice T400 (6475-B14) on Ebay and I have upgraded a number of items on it to get it to where I want it.
I upgraded the OS to W7 Pro, put in a Lenovo 4GB RAM stick (now I have a 4GB and a 2GB), and I swapped out the HDD for an Intel X-25 G2 80GB SSD.
90% of the time the machine is great, however I have run into a few problems and I'm really hoping that someone here can help me.
The first issue, is the fact that every once in a while the machine can't start. I end up having to restore the machine using R&R. I don't know what could be the issue. I've replaced the OS and HDD so I'm not sure what to do next. I am by no means a computer expert, but could the mis-matched RAM (1X4GB with 1X2GB) be causing the problem? I don't mind getting another 4GB stick, but if it won't do anything to fix the issue I don't want to waste the money.
Number two, I'm trying to burn an image recovery disk, but according to the Nero Tool I can't write with my drive (HL-DT-St DVD-ROM DU10N). Do I need additional software? I find it hard to believe that Lenovo would include a drive that only reads and is not capable of writing on DVD or CD, but based on the searches I've done on this forum and others, I can't find any other answer.
Lastly, the SSD seems to be working great (I've only had to restore the system once since installing it, see issue number one), but I see in the Lenovo download site there is an ISO file for SSD's. However since I can't burn a DVD, I can't burn the ISO file. So my question(s) is/are do I really need the software? Can I use my Apple Mac Pro at home to burn the ISO file and then use that disk to install the software?
Sorry for the long, rambling questions, but I have tried to search a number of forums and the internet in general and I haven't been able find the answers.

hello mate,
For your first issue the RAM can be the problem. U can mix different size of RAM but make sure to use DDR3 PC3-8500 or DDR3 PC3-10600 memory. And also the T400 does not support ECC be careful to don't mix ECC and non ECC memory.
For your second question your HL-DT-St DVD-ROM DU10N is just a DVD ROM reader and it's not capable to write any CD or DVD.
I don't know about the software for your SSD but if it's an ISO file for windows you can burn it with a mac it won't make a difference. All discs burned on the Mac work across platforms.
