U330 touch windows 7 downgrade cache ssd

Hi, ordered a u330 touch and it comes preloaded with win 8, need to install win 7 64bit.
Read a few posts here and other sites that they are having issues setting up the cache Ssd through the Intel rapid storage software (accelerate tab missing)
It requires raid to be enabled on the BIOS does the u330 support raid?
Has anyone managed to get the cache sad working on win 7 ?
Thanks

hi neovo-88,
Upon checking the specs, the caching method used by the U330 Touch is Expresscache. To test if Expresscache s working, open a command prompt and type eccmd -info. It should return a result like this:
 - Link to picture
The Expresscache feature is a proprietary software that's preloaded on the machine so there's no guarantee that it will work on another version of Windows. However, you may try to follow this guide on how to re-install it.
As for the caching software via the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (acceleration tab), this will not work as it requires RAID to be enabled in the BIOS (which the system doesn't have).

Hope this helps

  • Cannot install windows 7 (downgrade from Windows 8.1 on Lenovo U330 Touch)

    Hello.
I wanted to downgrade my new Lenovo U330 Touch from Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 (x64 Home Premium). I followed the instructions from this previous forum post...
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/U330-Touch-Downgrading-to-Windows-7/m-p/15...
I accidentally deleted the partition with Windows 8.1 on it by mistake. Good riddance to it.
Now, when I try to install Windows 7 from the boot sequence, I get the message saying that "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style".
How do I install Windows 7 please?

I have tried this a few months ago. You can study the steps and try it on your unit.

  • U330 Touch - SSD Question

Hi, I recently bought a U330 Touch i7. I hadn't realized that it shipped with a HDD/SSD combination drive. When I booted it up I found the main OS installed on the HDD along with a load of other applications, then on the SSD drive was only  McAfee and a load of drivers. The HDD is 500GB (or near enough) and the SSD 25GB. The unit is ST500LM000-1EJ162. THe SSD appears as a separate driver in file explorer but seems to be a partition of the main HDD in disk utility.
I have a couple of questions that I can't seem to find answers to by looking around on the site:
    1. Should I just install the applications I am most likely to use straight onto the SSD - so MS Office, Chrome, Unity and a couple of steam games - assuming the benefit on having them on the SSD is going to be worth it.
    2. I was told by someone it might be a hybrid drive and the migration of software from the HDD to SSD would be handled by some software. Is it a hybrid drive?
    3. Can I actually reinstall the OS directly on the SSD and would the benefit be worth the hassle of the reinstall?
    4. If I do re-install can I get the installation files for the OS and associated software that shipped with the machine from Lenovo direct?
Sorry for so many questions, but its my first SSD and there seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there.
    Thanks in advance.

You don't want to use the WD as the recovery drive, you want to use a flash drive.  Recovery and the factory load should fit on a 16 Gb flash drive. This will be used to refresh or repair the OS if you ever have the problem of not being able to boot.
The WD should be used to backup your current configuration since it will be so large.  As you do Windows updates and install more programs and save more files, this backup should be replaced on the WD on a regular basis.
The recovery flash drive will only be used to boot and install the original OS that your machine came with, or to repair or refresh the OS. Then you will use the backup from the WD to put the current OS back on.
Once you make the flash drive, I would test it to make sure it boots and goes into the recovery environment.
Again, the WD will only be used for backing up your current configuration and should be updated regularly.
I've never tried to use an external hard drive as a recovery drive, it might or might not work.  The instructions are pretty specific so I doubt that it will
You're welcome to try it though.

  • U330 Touch SSD Upgrade

    Hallo,

  • Disable RAID U330 Touch

I have just bought myself a U330 Touch with the intention of installing Debian on it, in common with all my other computers.
My intention was to install on the 16GB SSD that is paired with the 500GB disk. 16GB is plenty big enough for linux.
My question is how do I disable the RAID on the SSD so that I can partition the system? There doesn't appear to be any option in the BIOS setup. I have a Debian Live running and that cannot see the SSD.

    Hi TusonP,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to inform you that the partitions cannot be created unless and until UEFI setting in the BIOS is not disabled, restart the computer and press “F2” to enter BIOS and then in “Boot” windows disable UEFI to and new OS (Operating System) can be installed, however it is not recommended to create partitions as it may affect the “Hidden Recovery Partition” preset in the computer and the OKR (One Key Recovery) button will not work as expected.
    Hope this helps!!!
Do post us back if the issue still persists.
    Best Regards

  • How to Add/Install 16Gb Disk Caching SSD?

    Hello everyone,
I just bought the HP Envy 700QE desktop from Costco.  I did find the guide about this desktop/tower (www.nhangraphic.com/HP-Envy-700QE-Upgrade.pdf) but nothing is mention about how to install/config the additional 16Gb Disk Caching SSD.  I really want to have this to improve the performance of the desktop.   Could someone please help me how to add/install and full config 16Gb Disk Caching SSD for this HP Envy 700QE Desktop step by step? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Frank,
mSATA is just a mini-onboard SATA connector where a small circuit board (msata device) can be inserted.  Typically it's used as a way with small form factor devices to add SSD like performance.
You can change the SATA controller mode from the default AHCI setting to RAID in the bios.  Use Computer Setup to enter the bios. Tapping the ESC key right after power on the PC should bring up a menu selection.

  • Partition on Cache-SSD / Configure ExpressCache

    Hello!
My E330 has a 16GB Cache-SSD. I noticed that this disk contains two partitions (each ca.8GB) and ExpressCache uses only one of them. I assume the other partition is for the "Intel Rapid Start Technology", which I consider useless (for me) and disabled in the BIOS.
Now my question is, how can I configure ExpressCache so that it uses the whole 16GB SSD. Of course I know how to repartition the drive. What I don't know is if I have to 'shutdown' the ExpressCache software and reconfigure it, or if I have to completely uninstall/reinstall it.
    Thanks for reading

It shouldn't be too hard to expand the cache partiton.  Here's how I'd do it: (Assume all disclaimers and, of course, do lots of backups. AND, I did this on a w530, not an E330.)
Check out this thread: Thread: HOWTO: Configure a large (> 32GB) SSD to work with ExpressCache
In order to remove your hibernation partion, you need to use Diskpart to change that partion ID to 07 ("set id=07 override") and then you can remove it using windows "Disk Managment". You should make sure the the Rapid Start services are uninstalled and/or disabled before you remove the partion.
In order to expand the ExpressCache partition: stop the ExpressCache service> Using Diskpart, change the cache partion ID to 07>extend the partion to the new size you would like by using Disk Mangement> then, back to Diskpart and "set id=73 override" on the newly extended partion > restart the ExpressCache service.
When you run the command "eccmd -info" you should now see the reported cache is the size of the partition that you just manipulated.
All of that said, I really like using Rapid Start - it really speeds up resume from hibernation here. . .

  • U330 Touch - Manufacturer number?

    Hello ,
I've got a little question about the different U330 Touch versions,
    I'm looking for the
    grey
    i5 4200u
    128gb ssd
    win 8.1 preinstalled
    version of the U330 Touch
So I figured out that 59405810 is the orange version of the one I'm looking for, what is the number of that version in grey?
    Until now I found:
59393202 grey version with win 8.0
59405811 grey version with win 8.1 but only i3 and hybrid hdd
    I also figured out that
    5939xxxx are versions with 8.0
    and
5937xxxx are the older versions with hybrid hdd
Thanks, I hope you can understand my issue

I'm starting to doubt that this version is existing in grey...

  • Sandisk cache SSD 24GB dead ?

    Hello,
I've recentely decided to install windows 7 pro on my Lenovo U410.
I have lauch diskpart for cleaning disks so i've clean the hard drive and the cache SSD.
But now the SSD is not reconized. Worse, when the SSD is pluged in the bios won't displaying, the boot menu don't want to open and windows doesn't boot (locked on black screen).
The bios want the password, i give him and black screen too.
When i plug-out the SSD the bios work the boot menu too and Windows is booting.
When i plug in the SSD when windows is booted, Windows has no reaction et the SSD is completely invisible in the disk manager or in diskpart.
THe SSD is dead ? or it's just a configuration i've miss ?
thank for attention and sorry for my very poor english :s

    hi leomerirosvo,
When the SSD gets detected, try to use Sandisk's SSD Toolkit which includes a:
    Firmware update (if available)
    SMART tool
    Diagnostic tool
    Drive Information tool
Alternatively, you can use a secure erase utility to reset the SSD to factory settings. You may also try to use a USB to mSATA adapter (like this one) to erase the SSD.

  • Spilt coffee U330 Touch

    Hey there!
I had a cup of coffee standing beside my one-month-old Lenovo U330 Touch. By accident the said coffee got spilled all over the computer. Over the whole keyboard, including the touchpad (I think). I immediately pluged it out, turned it off and turn it upside down while drying it with a towel.
Atfer an hour or so, I tried to start it up to see if it worked, and it did. I tried out some keypresses and everything worked no problem, but just as I was turning it off, the mouse go inverted and then the screen got flipped to one side. I powered it off with the power button and left it in the bathroom with heated floor (again upside down with some toilet paper and a newspaper between the screen and keyboard.
Later again I turned it on and again it started normally, but now the caps lock light was on. The touchpad worked normally again and the screen was the right way, but the keyboard is all messed up. Most of the keys work, but feel sticky, while some are doing different commands and multiplekeystrokes (the g is doing Ctrl+F, the F is F' ++).
I have seen many posts on this forum regarding spilling of things but none on U330. Is there anything I can/should do?
And another thing - the touch pad feels kind of loose - it's making a slapping sound when tapping and I feel that the fan can be quite noisy. The panel around the touchscreen (lower left side is also making a clicking noise when I open the computer. Is this normal? I know that they are not a result of the coffee spill.
This was a long one! Phew! Thanks in advance!

Open the laptop up, get a replacement keyboard and also make sure any sign of coffee inside the laptop you want to clean up.

  • Satellite P50t - how caching SSD is built in?

    Hi,
I am considering to buy a P50t, with the 1TB HDD and 8gb caching SSD.
I have searched this forum and the web, but was unable to determine how the SSD is built into the laptop.
I know other laptops the caching SSD is plugged into a mini PCIe slot using mSata with the formfactor M2. 2242 (or NGFF 42mm).
Is there anyone that can confirm Toshiba is doing the same?
I want to know, since I would like to upgrade the caching SSD to a 128gb version.
